"The first Park Circle brewery, Commonhouse Aleworks has mastered the community brewery feel with a patio welcoming those who live in the area as well as those visiting. Consistently find the popular Park Circle Pale Ale and the Ale Is Salty gose among many others in the tap room." - Barbara Skidmore

It's been years since we've been to this brewery. It was just as good as we remembered. The Brisket Grilled Cheese was delicious and enough for two people. I had the Rescue Brew which is a cream ale and my wife had the Air is Salty which is a Gose. Both were delicious and refreshing on a hot SC day. Very pet friendly with plenty of outdoor seating. We do wish they had some big fans outside to help when the breeze isn't blowing.

Google
Been coming here since they first opened, and I am continually impressed. A huge selection of the8r top rated beers. Great events and bands. They've teamed up with Swig & Swine recently, so the food is also a great addition. Lastly, I'm really appreciative of their continued focus on the community. They've made themselves a staple in the Park Circle and Charleston area.

Google
Super neat place, but bring a pad or pillow to sit on. The picnic table seats are hard as rocks. Plus the rock and roll band was great !

Angela Hunter

Google
My husband and I were introduced to Common House at the Cooper River Bridge Expo. We went to check it out after we had lunch in Park Circle. Great variety of drinks and very knowledgeable staff. We will definitely visit again!

Steven Diaz

Google
Great beer! The brisket burger was delicious! Very cool atmosphere and live music. Great service and family friendly.

Roz Rivers

Google
Meets the present trend. Good ambience. Preferred the small rustic brew pub just next door.

Rob McDonald

Google
After dinner, we made a quick stop here when we saw there was live music on their large and inviting patio. I grabbed a beer and we grabbed a couple of Adirondack chairs with a good view of the stage. It was a fun, family atmosphere with a wide range of ages enjoying the show. The beer was decent, but the large space with lots of seating and a covered area with picnic tables gets the crowd in. It's a fun spot to hang out and enjoy a brew and a band.

Google
Very cool hipster atmosphere. Friendly service and overall good ( not great) beer. 100% worth a trip if you are into the brewery scene. My wife and I did two flights which give you a good variety of options. I’ll certainly go back . They also offer canned take away. However unlike most breweries, they offer a variety pack of 4 different cans so you don’t have to buy 4 of the same . Most breweries do not do this

Yelp
I recently went to common house ale works for the first time and I love the space. I like that it has an indoor but a huge outdoor area. They also just celebrated six years. They are located in the park Circle area which is a very up-and-coming hip area to go sip bite and taste everything. They have a really good selection of brews and they most recently have partnered up with Swig and Swine, so you best believe there's some good eats there too you can follow along on my food adventures overall Instagram @sipbiteandtasteit

Heather S.

Yelp
Great outdoor vibe. Good spot for beers and live music. The food from Swig and Swine left more to be desired but was okay. You order your drinks and food at the bar- no waiters/servers. If you want an additional drink or anything you have to go back up to the bar to order.

Brad P.

Yelp
The Park Circle Pale Ale is one of the best beers in town! Not too heavy or hoppy. Perfect balance of floral and bitter notes with a nice drinkability. Cool outdoor area. Often live music. Great food. There's a window you can order from which is cool and pretty fast. They give you a number to put on your table and they bring the food out. Good spot. Underrated.

Patrick L.

Yelp
Great day for our first time here. Excellent beer, IPA's are solid but really liked the Changegamer! My son said the CAB brisket, Smashburger was the best he's ever eaten in his entire life! Solid location and atmosphere.

Roland R.

Yelp
After having dinner at Carolina ale. My friend and I zoom over to Commonhouse Aleworks. Visiting from Seattle the brewery capital. I thought this place was awesome. The microbrews were delicious, prices were cool, and they had food and brewery gear. There was plenty of space to enjoy your brew. Seems like a weekend hangout. All and all, I will be back. Regarding the district. Its right in the heart of everything happening. I had a good time.

Kris G.

Yelp
This venue is great and really combines a sense of community with great food, drinks and atmosphere. There is a stage where many locals come out and perform so you can catch comedy, music, dance and fun pretty much every day of the week. I haven't found cheese sticks this good in Charleston since Josie Joe's left Shem Creek. And their deep-fried giant pretzel is to die for... Just found out they make a dessert pretzel as well, so that will be for next time. Do yourself a favor and order one for the table, it's definitely share-worthy! Very nice staff with a relaxing vibe.

Ravyn W.

Yelp
We went for the brewery tour. It was a great tour and the owner is very passionate about helping the community and his team. I got to try the wise beer and had the smash burger (swig and swine). The smash burger was really good I recommend a try. The wise beer was really flavorful. It's a beer spot, but the set up lets you interact with everyone and not just the people you came with so I like that it's like a community so good ambiance

Iz S.

Yelp
We love Commonhouse. The ambiance is always chill and relaxed. Live music always! The service is great. We never leave disappointed. The food has been replaced with Swig and Swine which is good but we miss our brussel sprouts.

Stefany B.

Yelp
Yes! It's all you need to know. Is the beer good? Is it a good space? Is the food good? Do they have good bands? Do they host fun events? Best handcrafted beer in town (lately) only other place we've had this MANY choices and ALL be stellar is CooperRiver. Seriously. All good. Check out the photos for todays haul....

Mel W.

Yelp
This was my first visit to this brewery even though I've been to park circle many times (primarily for lunch). I found the bar tender friendly and more than willing to offer a sample of a particular beer if a customer is unsure which beer to choose. I decided to try the paddle fruit (IPA with Prickly Pear) it had a mild fruit taste but was not overly sweet. The beers are available in different sizes ranging from 4 ounce to 16 ounce. They also offer food ranging from wings and burgers to pretzels and tater tots. I decided against food but noticed many in my group did not finish their pretzels and other menu items... I may try food on the next visit. The exterior had plenty of picnic tables and rocking chairs, it's probably really nice during the fall or cooler months ect. It's worth stopping in if visiting park circle. Plenty of other eateries within walking distance.

Yelp
Common House Ale Works is generous enough to open their venue for one night a month to entertain the neighborhood with a Comedy Night consisting of several local groups of Improv artist. I wish I could remember the names of the groups. These artists get together to perform some funny stuff. Theater 99 is just one of the many groups. Nice large area with inside and outside seating. Even though we didn't eat there the staff was constantly delivering good looking food and beverages to the tables. Looks like a good time for all

Walter S.

Yelp
Now that Swig and Swine is providing the food this place has jumped up on the short list of great places to go around N. Charleston.

Christina C.

Yelp
Great place for live music, staff is friendly, but food was just ok. Ordered their chicken sandwich and it was dry. Not enough sauce, chicken was too thick so I couldn't eat it was a sandwich. Fries also came cold-ish :( Will give this place a try again later because I do like the atmosphere here :)

Philip L.

Yelp
Great ambiance when the weather's nice, live music sets a good vibe. I didn't come to drink...sorry but at a certain point you have to change some habits or die fat and unhealthy... Anywho...had the Nashville Hot Chicken, which was not hot...at all. Basically a fried chicken breast adorned with mayo. Unmemorable. Maybe I should start drinking again.

Ann K.

Yelp
Great pitstop before boarding. Good beer and liquor selection, and the food is better than most airport places. I had the BBQ chicken flatbread-delish.

Hoang Vi F.

Yelp
Love the stage and love the food wish it wasn't as busy as my food was cold and soggy but definitely a kid friendly spot and love the outdoor seating and areas available. And live music of course is great!

Alexis S.

Yelp
Definitely one of our favorite places to come hang out, have a drink, and munch on some food. We love the atmosphere they've built here, which is very laid back. They change their menu a good bit to keep variety available for everyone. The staff are always nice every time we go, it's very easy to order, and you can sit wherever. I love their table heaters they have for the outside seating. They often have live music and will have a whole month schedule posted for you so you're in the know of what events to expect from them. Highly recommend coming here

Sydney B.

Yelp
Super fun outside area. Dog friendly. Chill vibes. Beer was good and Fried Chicken Sandwich Nashville hot/ bacon/ ranch/ lettuce/ tomato /Brioche bun was tasty. #bergerknowsbest

Nikki B.

Yelp
If you want to find an indoor or outdoor place with good beer, this is your location. Dog friendly and sometimes you listen to live music. The vibe is very chill. There's a few food items but all of the items pair perfect with a beer... lol... The reason for the 4 stars is that my wings were bloody. They did remake the wings but the next batch was crispy and burnt.... Order everything else except for the wings. I would come back again but I will not eat the wings..

Liz G.

Yelp
Finally stopped in to Commonhouse. Been on my list for some time. First impressions was great as there was PARKING! To me that is a huge plus. I hate driving around forever trying to find a parking spot! There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. We got here fairly early so we didn't get a chance to hear the band. Bluegrass, I believe. The beers we decent. I tried a couple different IPA's. I'd say nothing spectacular, however not too bad. I typically like the Park Circle Pale. That's always a safe go to! The menu was right up my alley when going to a brewery. Good ol tots and pretzels. How can one go wrong! We had the totchos, Brussel Sprouts, and the ginormous pretzel. Of all the Brussels were by far the winner! The pretzel was okay, beer cheese was also jut okay. The totchos were not bad either but thats it. Overall, cool little spot if you're in the area. Great staff. Good vibe.

Opal D.

Yelp
Good outdoor area. Good beers. This is a great spot to have a drink at while you wait for a table at Lola across the street.

Michael F.

Yelp
Staff is always very friendly and accommodating. Beer and food quality are always great!

Ian L.

Yelp
Really a mixed bag. The beer is good and the service is friendly and attentive. My wife got a strawberry froze, and it was one of the best things I've ever tasted. Food was a different story. My wife's burger was great, but the parm truffle fries had a strong, fresh garlic acridness to them. And the chicken sandwich, where to begin? There was nothing "Nashville hot" about it. I don't mean that in the sense that I like spicy food and this came up short. I mean that there was no seasoning or spice to it at all. Beyond that the chicken tenders (which always make for an unwieldy sandwich) were overcooked to oblivion. Eating the sandwich made my jaw sore. I think it would be a great place to enjoy several beers and live music. And I'll grant that we went at an off-peak time, which often leads to subpar food. I'd give it another shot, but only one.

Naomi M.

Yelp
What a relaxing way to spend an afternoon! My husband and I had some time to kill so we stopped in having seen it the night before - we each ordered beers we enjoyed, and loved our pretzel (it's deep fried - don't be surprised like I was!) and tot-chos (tater tot nachos). The food was delicious and hot. The entire staff were friendly in helping us make great choices in food and beers! And as a girl who likes sour beers - they've got a few great ones on tap! I loved the Lilikoi!!!

Lowanda J.

Yelp
This was my first time here and I came to support my LGBTQIA+ friends for poetry night during Pride Week! The patio area is HUGE!! I love that they have a stage area for open mic and poetry. I wasn't able to get the best pictures from where I was sitting, but seating was plentiful. I didn't order any food or beverage, but definitely will partake in the future.

Elise D.

Yelp
Come for the beer, stay for the smash burger. Once the warm weather hit, the Commonhouse patio was calling and it's a great way to kick off a day of exploring Park Circle. They have a nice variety of beer on tap and last time I went, I had a peach smoothie sour that was really tasty. My not-so-hidden motive for coming here, though, is the smash burger. To me it's everything a smash burger needs to be. Thin patties, grilled onions, pickles, cheese, and burger sauce. It's juicy goodness that pairs perfectly with a cold beer. There is ample parking nearby and it's kid and dog friendly. They often have live music and it's a great casual spot to catch up with friends.

Taylor B.

Yelp
Parking is a little bit inconvenient, decent beer options, different sizes available, service was okay, inside and outside seating. I've read in other reviews that the food was bad, so I opted to stay away.

Skip E.

Yelp
Great place to go to excellent beer and Bradford is "THE MAN" Service nice and friendly. Just a nice place to go. Good vibes !!! Oh , by the way, 5 stars isn't enough .

Pamela B.

Yelp
Came here for post run grub. Had a beer flight and the beers were ok. The burger was ok. Grilled cheese. Added bacon. Pretty generic. But the Brussels sprouts were amazing. The vibe of the place was fun and relaxing. Comfortable

Justin L.

Yelp
The food here was not good. My wife won't stop talking about how terrible the chicken tenders were. Also the Tot-Cho's were very bad. We are talking no seasoning, stale toppings, etc. The fries were lacking as well and the ranch didn't taste like ranch. However, our friend got a burger and enjoyed it. The ambiance was good and a pet friendly place to hang out with friends. Lots of parking which is a plus.

Reagan A.

Yelp
I was here for the Saint Patrick's Day block party. As expected, it was crazy busy! The did a great job of keeping the beer lines running and their Gose was very good! The food wait was crazy and after almost an hour, all my friends had received their food and eaten but my single pretzel still hadn't come out. My friends were ready to leave so they gave me a refund and a free beer. Like I said, it being a little crazy was to be expected and they were very apologetic. I'll definitely check them out again on a less chaotic day!

Dina W.

Yelp
My brother and sister-in-law were in town and we were in the area. My sister-in-law absolutely loves breweries so we decided to stop in. From the outside, it looks a lot bigger than it actually is. They have plenty of outdoor seating. They offer counter service only. They have a nice selection of beer. There have wine and rośe for non beer lovers like myself. My boyfriend and sister-in-law decided to go with flights and a huge pretzel to share. The flights come in mini cupcake tins--how cute. There is a small station by the counter with hand sanitizer and face masks.

Terri M.

Yelp
Great service and drinks nice. And they allow pets. Our server was super. Huge pretzels. Sean is fantastic. He should get a raise.

Joseph S.

Yelp
A wonderful community focused brewery with a large tasty variety of beers. Bands, trivias, and multiple events along with a selection of food items.

Nicole A.

Yelp
Only deducting a point because they didn't have my favorite kind of beer- kolsch Food was pretty solid and the beers they had were flavorful and good I drank a Lager that was pretty good. Went down easy Outdoor space is cool, kid friendly. Kids had chix ans grilled cheese - both with fries. Tasted very good fries were great Hubby and I split some apps- Brussels were SO SO GOOD and crispy and soft inside. Super flavorful Also the Buffalo cauliflower was good. Didn't like it as much as brussel sprouts Cool spot Clean Nice bartenders Kid friendly Checks all boxes And outside seating

Matt C.

Yelp
Pro's; its a nice smooth, tight atmosphere. Real slick inside and out... The beer was ayight, no great shakes. I had an IPA and it was slightly above average. The Con's; there was really awful music being played. Creed maybe I think?... I'm not sure... It sounded mid-90s alternative-genre... Very low on the talent side.. It was very hard to listen to... Just wanted to slug my brew down and get the heck out of there.. Also, it was pretty cold out the day I visited and they had the A/C on I think, and the fans turning. Just made for an unpleasant experience inside. Really gotta track everything, not just the beers.

Ami A.

Yelp
First Fridays are BBQ and Bluegrass, two of my most favorite things-food snd music! This venue in Park Circle is a wonderful addition to an ever changing Park Circle scene. They have a large outdoor space with a wooden stage for live music with lots of chairs and large tables. Inside had community tables, about 12 beer on tap and pub style food. We had a couple of beers, a delicious fried chicken Sammy, truffle fries, a huge pretzel with pub cheese and mustard and Buffalo style cauliflower with blue cheese. Everything was tasty and delicious. Listened to live music outside for a few hours chilling on an Adirondack style chair. Perfect Friday night!

Denise D.

Yelp
Stopped in here with my husband on our way to the Coliseum. I loved the atmosphere. There was such a diverse group of people: families, couples, friends, senior citizens and everyone in between. Several people were playing games while sipping their beers. I remember seeing scrabble and UNO. There are a variety of games on a shelf along the back wall to choose from. Even though it was a chilly evening, there were a bunch of people out on the patio. They had the gas heaters on and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I ended up trying the Pilsener and it was delicious. My husband had one of the several IPAs on the menu and he loved it. I ate the chicken sandwich (it was a special) and my plus one had the Hamburg. We both found our good to be very hot and scrumptious. Mine was more than I could eat though. We will definitely be back here. It's a fun place with really cool vibes.

Cory W.

Yelp
ADDICTED to these burgers! Oh man. Idk what type of meat they use but the double patties + beer cheese is so freakin good! Today I got the "brunch burger" for the first time, which came with a fried egg, and WOW is all I can say. I think every burger should come with a fried egg :) I also love how the tater tots that come with it are super crispy every time. You can tell they drop a fresh batch for each order. The employees are always very friendly & know what's up with the beers. They won't BS you. You can sample any of them before you decide too, no problem. Not a ton of great choices but can def find something for your liking. I'm usually an IPA guy but today ordered the amber one (forgot the name) and it went great with my burger. It's really nice sitting outside too, especially when they have live music playing. Such a chill vibe for lunch; super solid spot overall.

Lee K.

Yelp
Great friendly staff. Food was horrible. We ordered two Nashville hot chicken sandwiches and they completely forgot the Nashville hot. Essentially we were delivered two chicken tender sandwiches. My kids wouldn't even touch it because they thought the food was so bad. Between the chick-sammies and the chick-kids tender meals, we were left with 10 tenders of in-edible chicken. Also, good luck fighting the crows to order-sit-enjoy-pay mode.

John C.

Yelp
Love coming to commonhouse. The outdoor seating is top-notch, with an artificial turf area, a stage, and covered seating. It's a great place to bring a party of friends or a bunch of kids. I got the impossible burger a couple of years ago on my birthday when I came last time. It was delicious the first time I tried the food, and it made me return about 5 more times already :D The beer selection is great, they. have sour, IPA, dark, light, wheat, a great selection for any mood. Highly recommended as one of the best places to visit in North Charleston and greater Charleston area for that matter.

Jessica B.

Yelp
I love living in Park Circle and having this so close by. When it first opened, it was fairly small but I'm so happy it has expanded. There's a good selection of beers, with rotating ones for seasonal options. The rose cider is amazing. They also have a white and red wine option. YOU MUST ORDER THE TOTS TO EAT. So so good! The outside area is really nice. They offer picnic tables, a fake grass area and has a stage for performances. The staff is great and really helpful in choosing a drink. I recommend checking it out, for sure!

William S.

Yelp
Cool spot. I can see lots of potential on warm, sunny days. However, I was there on a rainy Friday with a band performing, so seating was super limited. I was just one person, so I didn't require much space, but the rain made the space appear small. Beers are .... well.

Betsey L.

Yelp
Great food + beer. Love the spacious outdoor patio with plenty of area to social distance. You order through a window and a server will deliver your food and drinks to your table. We had some delicious Pale Ales, along with a lot of tasty food-- really loved the boiled peanuts-- the perfect accompaniment to some brews! This is a great spot for lunch!

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Beer is good. They have 1 lager and 1 hef the rest is ale/ipa etc. Those 2 are delicious but wish they had more of the lighter stuff. The food is also great. They have a stage for live music. Large outdoor area.

Scotty C.

Yelp
***This is part of a mini-review-series highlighting Hurricane Florence All Stars. Those who stuck around for the potential storm know how difficult it was to find open businesses. Not only did I find businesses open here and there, I found most of them to have rock star attitudes about it. It's important to remember those that were there for you and to appreciate them for that.*** Everyone in the neighborhood was posting online about who was staying open and who wasn't and consistently I would see Commonhouse on the list for open. I had a buddy that wanted to meet up to get out of the house so I told him to meet me here. I rolled up on my bike and it was packed outside. People had their whole family out there just to get out of the house before the storm came. As we came in we were notified that they'd be closing at 6pm (in about 45 mins) but we still had time for beers. We hung out on the patio and enjoyed the cool breeze over a couple cold ones. I'll definitely be making Commonhouse a regular stop in the future.

Kevin E.

Yelp
Fun the family - might sound odd for an ale house, but it's true! This gem in North Charleston's Park Circle is a great spot to spend an afternoon. For beer lovers, there are multiple choices on tap + a cider selection, too (albeit a bit pricey for the size of the pour). If anyone in your party is hungry, food is also an option. You can sit inside at tall or regular tables, outside at picnic tables or in rocking chairs, and then you can enjoy the bocce court and the stage. Children can roam freely AND dogs are welcome, too. There is space for guests of all ages to spread out, find their spots, and have fun. Hope you enjoy your visit here as much as we did!

Amy Lauren S.

Yelp
I've been to Commonhouse Aleworks a few times, and although I'm not a huge beer fan, I've always had a lot of fun, enjoyed myself, and found something to eat and drink. They offer a wide variety of beers and different pricing options for pours. Along with beer, Commonhouse also offers several kinds of wine, and they have food trucks or pop-ups on the lawn. They use Facebook to let you know who'll be serving food, but also provide menus to order from local restaurants as well. You can sit inside or out, and the location is very accessible, with a large, gravel parking lot just across the street as well as a ramp for anyone with mobility issues. Commonhouse hosts a Thursday night run club, participates in Charleston Beer Week activities, and tries to give back to the community. Great addition to Park Circle.

Jodie L.

Yelp
We didn't stay as they closed their kitchen early. I had already entered tab information in their phone ordering system, as menus were still on the tables. Update your hours on Yelp, etc or honor your hours and/or post hours on site & remove menus. Looks like a nice atmosphere, but your neighboring competitor won our business, since we were bound to a dog friendly location for dinner with our dog already in tow based on your online hours.

James D.

Yelp
So we did a mini self-guided Chucktown brewery tour/crawl...13 breweries in 3 days. Charles Towne Fermentory on the west side of the city was my favorite if you were wondering at all, but that's likely because they're geared toward what I like (New England style unfiltered murky IPA's). The beer here is fine (they run from 5 to 7 bucks per pint) and you should go check them out and see if you really like them, but my better half and I were really turned off by the lone beertender working the day we visited this place. His name was Kelsey and he seemed like he hated life in general. Seriously. He definitely was not at all happy to be working or serving beer that day and that was a major downer. Of all 13 breweries we visited on our tour, he was literally the only beertender we found to be unfriendly. He said basically nothing to us, despite our attempts to chat him up etc. We literally drank our flights here and then bailed because of him...we didn't want to approach him to ask him for another beer. No way. The dude was just sour, no beer pun intended. Another downer was that they had zero New England style IPA's on tap, though they had at least one bitter IPA. Flights are the standard Chucktown 4 beers for 10 dollars plus tax. They offered chips, boiled peanuts, and even moon pies to eat, as well as Yoohoo, Sun Drop, and Stewart's orange soda. They only fill crowlers here, no growler fills available. You can take home some of their canned beers as well if you so choose. Bathrooms were very clean and nicely appointed and both their air conditioning and WiFi ran really strong! The crowd here tended toward the yuppie/preppie type as we saw lots of khakis and polo shirts. This is not a hipster beard heaven by any means. They have indoor and outdoor seating, street parking, food trucks that they schedule and advertise on their website and board games like Sorry and Battleship in house. Roll out some NE style ippas and get Kelsey to complete some customer service training and I'd revisit this jurnt, otherwise, I'm passing.
