A friend spoke highly of this restaurant so we decided to pay a visit. The food was absolutely phenomenal! We ordered the tandoor prawns and the tandoor wings and even though they were both tandoor dishes, I appreciated how they both tasted so different ( like they were seasoned differently). The naan was delicious and the mango lassi was so smooth and creamy. Will definitely come here again!

I had a very pleasant dining experience at this Indian restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. The complimentary chips were a nice touch and helped stimulate the appetite. My drink was thoughtfully poured into a glass right at the table, which was a nice detail. The appetizer was unique and flavorful—when I asked questions, the server kindly explained what it was made of and how best to enjoy it, which added to the experience. The entrees were also delicious and well-prepared. Overall, the servers were both professional and friendly, making the whole visit enjoyable.

I ordered through Uber Eats. I selected medium for both dishes. This was not medium, seriously kitchen mistake here. There are a a difference between heat flavor and too spicy it takes away from The flavor of the dish. I’ve orders from here before and it was great so I thought I’d order again even though prices are steep! I’ve been a fan of Indian cuisine for years and eaten in India and England,, so I know flavors and spices. This was not something that lived up to par. Please reach out asap if appreciate it , I know you can do better! Add on, this is not how pappadums should be! What a disgrace to the culture

Very difficult to understand the great reviews. Waiter said my goat dish had "some bones." However, it had very little meat and was mostly bone. I honestly think I got a goat knee. I like goat meat but this dish was about 90% bone. They should have been ashamed to serve this dish. Another person ordered a vegetarian dish. Not great and very dry for a rice vegetarian dish. The lamb and chicken dishes seemed ok. Mango, avocado crunchy salad was delicious. Won't be going back.

hands down commonwealth is by far the best indian food in town! We’ve tried all of the area favorites in and around the DMV and still feel this blows them out out of the water... The food is always fresh and delectably prepared with utmost attention to aroma and a delicate balance of spices. from the chef to the servers, they clearly employ a culture of quality. I feel they service ambassadors of India to the world! it takes a lot to get me to write a review especially a good one so this really speaks volumes. Must try & you’ll be returning. I recommend the okra & paneer for veggies and Karim’s goat curry & shrimp pepper masala for carnivores. Hits the spot every time! TY…

Commonwealth Indian offers an elevated dining experience with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The Blueberry Blast with vodka, mulled blueberries, and elderberry is a must-try The Malai Kofta is rich and flavorful, especially paired with the goat cheese naan. It’s a delightful spot that feels polished yet relaxed, perfect for a business dinner or a nice evening out.

We had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant recently and had an exceptionally good experience. Flawless service and amazing food, each dish special and delicious. We ordered the Aloo Papri Chaat and the Tandoori Octopus for appetizers. The main entree's was the Karim's Goat Curry and the Malabari Chicken. We enjoyed the Gajar Halwa for dessert. Also their Masala tea is superb. Finally, I must say that the service we received from our server Sabit G, was extraordinary. He was very kind, helpful and professional. We look forward to returning as soon as possible. Thank You!!

It is definitely a 5 star restaurant. I've been here for 2 days, once for lunch and then dinner. The food was great. It's very tasty. Price could be a bit less, but it is on par with other Jersey restaurants. The ambiance is great. Nice decorations, lighting, and table arrangements. Receicing the guests and Service was also great. Being a vegetarian, took some sides and butter naan. It was very crispy, soft, and tasty. You could eat it without any sides. Gobi manchurian, cord fritters and pani puri was great. My American friend, tood Octopus fry and he loved it. My non veg friends who were with me also mentioned that the quality was fantastic. Going from Jersey, I felt this restaurant was on par with any good restaurant in NJ

Food/ Service/Ambiance Indian Cuisine is often overlooked. But if you are looking to take him or her to a very nice restaurant, consider Commonwealth. The "build out, the furnishings and ambiance is sophisticated, high quality and very pleasing. The setting is only surpassed by the professional wait staff and then the deliciously prepared meals. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the DC - Bethesda- Rockville corridor. A definite repeat affair

Finally took the time to stop by this restaurant in pike & rose. The atmosphere is on the nicer end. Perfect for date nights but also good for a casual night with friend or family. Came in with my mom more casual and didn't feel out of place. Our server was great at explaining everything to us and giving us his recommendations based on what we told him our preferences were. Our food came out quick, hot, & delicious. I ordered the butter chicken which was creamy & packed with flavor. My one critique on the food overall is the side of rice portion compared to the amount of sauce/curry isn't enough. I ordered an extra side of rice to have enough for my leftovers. My mom ordered the chicken vindaloo & she loved it. She had the same critique about the rice portion. Ofcourse we got a side of garlic naan which was great, no notes! I definitely plan to come back and try more of the traditional indian dishes I've never tried before!

Count me as a fan of Commonwealth! Very nice and modern Indian restaurant located in Pike and Rose. I love the interior of the restaurant- it's so nice. I couldn't believe they have crispy spinach chaat on their menu. This is Rasika's signature dish, so now I don't have to go to DC to satisfy my craving. It was very good, almost as good as Rasika's. My daughter really enjoyed the butter chicken and garlic naan. It was her first time trying Indian food and she can't wait to come back again. She's a picky eater, so that is saying something. It was also my first time trying Chicken Biryani. This is one spicy dish! Chicken was very tender and flavorful. The portion sizes here are pretty large, so this dish was my leftover lunch and dinner the following day. Our server was very friendly, and food came out pretty quick. I've read the past reviews of a lunch buffet, but that isn't being offered any more. They do have lunch specials though. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a more upscale Indian restaurant. Prices are a little high, but hey it's Pike and Rose, so what can you expect.

Such a great dining experience! We visited Commonwealth Indian yesterday for dinner and it didn't disappoint. It was an early dinner, so the vibe was quiet. The decor is so beautiful. I have to say that the service was amazing. Our server knew the menu front and back, and was able to explain dishes to the rest of my party who never had Indian food before. Not pictured was the Chaat and Samosas. I got the Chicken Tikka Marsala and we got a few Naans for the table. Flavors were out of this world! My sister got the salmon. I have passed this place multiple times so I'm glad I finally visited. 10/10! Can't wait to return.

If you love Indian food, Commonwealth Indian Restaurant is worth a visit. Located in Pike & Rose, it's a white tablecloth restaurant with plenty of seating. To eat, we enjoyed the spinach chaat, butter chicken, mango chutney, butter naan, chocolate cake, and cardamom creme brulee. The butter chicken was especially delicious full of flavor and with a unique touch. The mango margarita was refreshing! Service is impeccable and it's clear staff take pride in their work.

This past Monday morning was extremely cold, but my friend and I were down to try an Indian restaurant together, so we decided to meet at Commonwealth. I got here a bit before 12 PM, and it was fairly empty. The interior has a fancy, elegant vibe, with neatly folded cloth napkins propped up and silverware already set at each table. After ordering, they gave us complimentary papad (papadam) and mango chutney to enjoy while we waited for our food. The papad looked like a wonton chip at first glance, but it was much lighter and airier. The crunch was gentle and soft that dissolved very easily. Its delicate, lightly salty flavor paired well with the sweetness of mango chutney, which had a thick, jam-like texture with small pieces of mango mixed in. This was a delightful start, and we both really enjoyed it. CHICKEN BIRYANI - 19.99 The portion of the chicken biryani we got was pretty big, with a mountain of aromatic rice topped with plenty of garnish. It was a bit spicy, but not too much. The rice had a wetter, mushier texture, instead of the dry, individual grains I'm used to. The biryani had a decent amount of spice, but the flavors didn't blend harmoniously, like something was missing. The chicken pieces were pretty big, but tender. Overall, it was OK, but not something I'd order again. CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA - 20.99 My friend and I both agreed that the chicken tikka masala was surprisingly delightful, especially the tomato-based curry. The San Marzano tomatoes really shined through, giving the curry a bright sweetness that we both really enjoyed. The chicken was on the drier side, but we didn't mind as much because the bold flavors of the curry made up for it. We'd highly recommend giving the chicken tikka masala a try -- it's definitely one of the best ones I've had at a restaurant. GARLIC NAAN - 4.99 Each order comes with four quarters of naan, generously topped with finely minced garlic. It was on the greasier side, but that also meant it was pretty crispy. We enjoyed the naan with the chicken tikka masala we ordered. At the end, we had a lot of leftovers, enough for the both of us to enjoy another meal. We probably could have gotten away with just ordering the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan to share.

Thursday 10/10/2024 This spot is located in the pike & rose area (right next to fogo chao) so you know it's going to be pricey but that's fine as long as the food is worth it. I made a call in order for takeout and spent $61.44 total on: butter chicken (mild) $22, chicken tikka masala (mild) $22, Samosa $9, and garlic naan $5. - the chicken tikka masala was a little underwhelming but it's alright. Also it's not worth $22. - The butter chicken was solid but I've had better. Also it's another item that's not worthy of its price $22 tag. - The samosas were a good size and they were alright BUT $4.50 per samosa is crazy (should be like $3-$3.50 per). It also comes with 2 sauces: green sauce which has a tangy type of flavor and the brown sauce was kinda sweet. - The garlic naan was very disappointing and below average. It didn't have the garlic flavor that I was expecting. - The basmati rice was just rice, nothing more to it. Overall, the food is alright but it's extremely overpriced as the taste and portions are below expectations. Wouldn't recommend or return as there are plenty better Indian spots in the Maryland area.

A good spot for food and a quiet spot to get some work done! My friend and I got samosas which were tasty and rather large We had garlic naan which was alright. I ordered Palak with chicken, extra spicy which was very yummy. Large portions so I went home with left overs and so did my friend! Would love to come back for the lunch special Monday through Friday!

The location of this restaurant is noticeable **the name was in big red letters**, it was not hard to find parking either, I went to park at the garage next door. It felt like a palace when I first walked in, you have these tile floors and Indian antiques propped on a shelf on the right, there was a lot to observe overall. Ample lighting and Twas a busy restaurant when I first walked when, there was a band playing and a large group of people, perhaps an event was occurring. I received warm hospitality from the server, hostess, and manager I believe stopped by to say hello. My friend & I ordered two appetizers the chicken mono (delicious with the paired dip) & crispy spinach Chaat ( this one was so refreshing , light & crunchy at the same time). Yellow crab entree was creamy & spicy which I was hoping it was & paired well with white rice & lamp chops were cooked to perfect, tender & juicy. We even used the garlic naan to dip the yellow crab entree with. The server had recommended an Indian whisky (the first one listed on their drink menu) & it was strong alright! Great experience overall, very nice staff.

The food and ambiance at Commonwealth Indian Restaurant is perfect. You can dress casually but the restaurant provides a top-tier experience. The service is impeccable and the interior is beautiful. The perfect establishment to visit with friends, family and other loved ones.

This is what good indian food should taste like; delicious. They are so good you want to eat more even when your stomach is about to _______. I don't know about their service or ambiance since I've only had carry out; I guess I'll have to try it out next time. On a side note, my wife rates this as 5, but I think it's a 4; their price is a bit high, in my opinion.

Lovely dinner here! It's an elegant and large space. The food was very tasty! I tried the palak paneer which was creamy along with a delicious garlic naan. The samosas were also very good and very large! Service was very friendly and overall enjoyed quite a bit

The service and ambiance were above average and very nice. The food on the other hand was below average especially for the price point. I would splurge for high quality dishes however will not be returning to Commonwealth as there are far more delicious options, again, especially for that price.

After living in Bethesda for almost ten years, we finally, Finally, chose to order from Commonwealth. I have to admit - we waited eleven years too long Yes we did take out. And yes, it was absolutely amazing. First - the to go orders were packed flawlessly. The containers were double wrapped in plastic wrap to totally prevent any spillage. A very nice touch. The order was prepared promptly and the delivery (which I realize it's a third party vendor) was right on time. The food was still piping hot. Temperature...the spice...that's for later in the review. Of course, their menu at Commonwealth is extensive and we had difficulty narrowing down our choices. So, to solve that conundrum, we ordered far too much food. Chicken Biryani, Chicken Vindaloo, yellow daal tadka, Chana masala, and a spinach/mushroom dish whose name escapes me. Outstanding Everything was outstanding. Each dish was Perfectly seasoned, perfectly balanced. The vindaloo was, of course, the most spicy of the dishes but not to the point of being unbearable. The others had varying degrees of heat, but all simply nuanced flavors. The only thing I erred upon g was piling all five dishes onto the same plate and not savoring each separately. I was able to do that the the sheer volume of leftovers we had and the individual components of each dish was allowed to shine through. We are already planning to go experience the restaurant itself. Ten years of wasted time to find this restaurant. Don't be like us. Go there. And soon!

Quality Indian food! I had the lamb vindaloo and it was delicious, they do not hold back on the spiciness which I appreciate. Servers were kind and my water glass never went empty. Pleasant decor and good ambiance for a date night.

Hosted an anniversary party here for my parents this past weekend. They set up the first room on the left for us as we had a party of 15 so it was nice having a private space. They had asked me when I made the reservation if I wanted their private party room for an additional $250 so I'm glad I didn't book that and saved some $$. The restaurant is very beautiful and trendy...our room wasn't decorated like the rest of the restaurant but that was ok. We started with drinks and apps and they were all very good, and their drink prices are very reasonable! I had a tamarind margarita, my son had a blueberry vodka drink and several in our party had the mango and plain lassis, and we all loved our drinks. For apps, we had the spinach chaat and chili chicken and both were excellent! For dinner, we had the butter chicken, paneer, okra, Chana masala and daal makhani and everyone loved everything! I ordered the allepy fish to try something different and it was delicious! Everything was also reasonably priced and came with rice, but the naans for $4.50-5 seemed pretty pricey, but were delicious. We ended dinner with pistachio and coconut kulfi, both which seemed pre-made and incredibly hard. We liked the pistachio one but the coconut one tasted like freeze dried coconut...awful. I would skip all together. Their dessert selection was slim and not inviting. Overall we had a great experience and the service was quick and efficient. Our waiter wasn't the warmest guy, but he got the job done. We'll definitely be back.

My wife and I went here for a date on Sunday two days ago almost it's Monday late night early morning Tuesday and I am finishing up the leftovers from my wife and I date to Commonwealth and I just can't tell you enough how good their food is the sauce lingers and it gets better by the day. If you bring home leftovers, we had three entrées and two appetizers plus garlic, naan, and chai tea and it was the best And we're gonna come back here because it's so good

I got butter chicken, daal makhani, and lamb biryani and everything was *phenomenal*. Service was attentive and quick too. Only downside are the vibes? Not a lot of people and the white linen table situation is kinda stuffy, but typical. Would come back and recommend Commonwealth to anyone looking for a go to Indian spot!

Fabulous food in a market saturated with mediocrity. Expensive but worth it! We have gone here for lunch as well as Christmas buffet and love it.

Flavor, Family and Finesse. Not a moment or detail is ignored at this very simple but sophisticated restaurant with dishes from across India's flavor profile. The staff are gracious and engaging. Place is awash in soft lighting and comfort. The crispy spinach is from another world, not to be missed. The Chicken Tikka Masala was smooth, generous, particular in the way it envelops you and warms from noise and out. The curry, the daal and naan are prepared as you would hope from a private home and chef with confidence and passion. They didn't miss a beat. We walked away full, satisfied and with plenty left over for tomorrow. I look forward to my next visit.

When this place first opened (pre pandemic) I came for the lunch buffet and wasn't exactly blown away. Nevertheless my husband wanted to try it again so we made a reservation for dinner. Still not blown away but by no means disappointed. When it comes to drinks, get the Basil lychee mojito. It's that rare lychee drink that tastes like it has lychee in it and not just the syrup or essence. Hubby said of his Whiskey sour: "classic. Sour. Good." We decided to try something different for an app and got the Truffle khichdi arancini. It's a very cool idea but didn't need the truffle. Just didn't work flavor wise. Didn't add anything it was just too weird, not interesting. Get rid of that flavor and you have a winner. The Paneer lababdar has a truly fabulous gravy/sauce. You can taste the methi for sure, which I love because just tomato sauce with some cream makes me cringe. I would have asked for it to be spicier but that's entirely personal. Hubby said mutton korma was tender with the perfect amount of spice and good amount of mutton. Beautiful decor inside. Not over the top and gauche but still classically Indian with the subtle gold accents. The whole experience was that of a very good, very solid North Indian restaurant but nothing that absolutely knocked our socks off. And there's nothing wrong with that.

We were there 4/16 enjoyed the food very much chicken tikka masala was out standing The chicken kurma was good missing some fruit in it the samosa with peas and potatoes were ok too big for me and the dough abit too thick but still good The only thing we did not like were the nan they were too thin more like a pita too dry ... the dough was missing texture... the mango lassy was wahooo The papadam served to start wahoo So you see at the end of the day we liked the place alot. 4.5 out of 5 overall! During Covid we ordered from here regularly. I would compare the menu and dining experience to Rasika (D Street) and actually rate this higher since my last visit to Rasika a few months again. The two individuals I spoke w on the phone were great (one took my order and the other took my payment which I offered up front). My order was complete without anything missing or wrong! Thank you! -Samosa 5/5 tender and flavorful -Palak Chat 5/5 (packed deconstructed and easy to put together) -Baingan Bharta 3.5/5 (could have been more flavorful) Tandori salmon 4.5/5 (tender, moist and flavorful) -dal makhani 4/5 -rosemary and garlic naan -3/5 unremarkable, barely tasted rosemary -chicken tikka 5/5 requested white meat chicken which was tender and flavorful -rice 4.5/5 Tamarind and the green chutney were included in the order (at no extra cost). We enjoyed leftovers for several days and the dishes tasted even better the next day.

Came here for lunch during the week and wow. Easily one of the best higher end Indian restaurants I've frequented. Think Rasika in Rockville. Butter chicken - 9/10 Garlic naan - 10/10 Chicken tikki masala - 8/10 Palak paneer - 9/10 It was a little on the pricier side, and while worth every penny, probably a place you'd go when you feel like treating yourself.

This place is fascinating. It's in a fairly chill part of town (Pike & Rose) where tee shirts and flip flops are the norm but it's pretty darn fancy on the inside. I mean it. The welcome reception and service were all top notch and the decor is lovely. My only hiccup was that the food was just off by a little at every turn. I started with the lobster bisque because what kind of Indian restaurant has lobster bisque? I love a mystery. Was it tasty? Sure it was okay. Was it tomato basil soup with tiny pieces of lobster in it? Yup. It lacked the creaminess that is kinda required to be a bisque. Then I ordered the yellow crab curry. It was $27 and easily had $30 worth of backfin lump crab in it (check the pics...it was NUTS). The wrinkle was that the crab was flavorless. It was either overpowered by the curry sauce (which honestly wasn't that potent) or wasn't flavorful crab. It's difficult to describe so I apologize. This is a lovely restaurant and would be a great place for a date night or evening out but if you want your Indian food to taste mind-blowing that this may not be the place for you. I'm going to try some other stuff on the menu to see if maybe I missed the gold on the menu but for now I'm sticking with four stars.

Finally got a chance to dine in at Commonwealth in Pike & Rose. Saw an IG post about their yellow crab curry and have been dying to try it ever since. Upon walking into the restaurant, I immediately felt like I was underdressed LOL. The interior was well decorated and looked very upscale. The inside was very clean and servers were friendly and polite. David ordered the Chicken Biryani and I got the yellow crab curry. We also got a side of garlic naan. For starters, each table gets a plate of crackers and a sweet jam. The crackers were pretty salty but balanced well with the jam spread. Yellow Crab Curry: WOW. Amazing. You've been warned. The first bite in I was doing my happy dance. Creamy, flavorful, with pieces of lump crabmeat. Yes, this dish was $27, but we definitely had leftovers to go with another meal. I read some reviews saying they wished it had a bit of spice or heat. I'm not big on spice so I was okay with it, but I think maybe the tiniest dash of spiciness could have made the dish even better. A MUST ORDER! Chicken Biryani: If you can handle the heat, this one's for you. Served with a yogurt sauce and even David said he could see why it was there. This dish PLUS the crab curry was spot on. Overall, a pretty easy 5/5. Service was also great and our waiters were quick to refill our water. Highly recommend!

This was my first time at Commonwealth And I am very impressed ! As soon as you walk in, it's absolutely mesmerizing. The aesthetic is artistic, clean and ample. The hostess was very friendly, she greeted me very politely and showed me to my table. *Note When making reservations, you are asked where you'd like to sit. Main room, lounge room, outdoors. I will share pictures with this information as I was a bit confused as to where each place was ! We started off with drinks. Tamarind margarita and one night in Mumbai: both drinks were tasty and looked beautiful. We also tried the Taj Mahal beer, which is a light lager. Very refreshing For our appetizers we had the Tandoori octopus and the arancini. Both tasted great! The arancini balls are big! Just FYI. Our main courses were the yellow crab curry and butter chicken. Both dishes came with jasmine rice. They were both bold and delicious in flavor. We also had a delicious side of garlic Naan. Overall this place is not only visually beautiful ! But the service is top notch and their food is delicious. I can't wait to come back and try more items from their menu including dessert!

We enjoyed this place. Our host, Nathan, was excellent and recommended a great spinach appetizer - crispy chaat which we really enjoyed. The goat cheese stuffed naan was great. We also had my favorite cardamon tea. Entrees matar paneer and chicken korma were very good. Charming decor and atmosphere. Clean restaurant and rest room. All in all, excellent pick.

Pike and Rose has really exploded, and this Indian restaurant is one of the more interesting competitors in the space. It's on the upscale end, though wearing shorts on a hot summer day wasn't a problem for me. The menu is clearly marked for vegan items, but not gluten-free (but our gluten-free diner seems to have gotten through the experience okay). This is one of those places that has dal and chana masala as side dishes, so I went with okra as the lightest main dish. I was rewarded with a beautifully presented plate of bhindi masala, delicate in flavor and not particularly spicy. I added a fulka out of curiosity, which seems basically to be a puffed up roti, a thin whole wheat bread. The place was busy, but getting a same day reservation wasn't a problem. Getting a parking space was a problem; I would not recommend driving inside Pike and Rose. I found street parking a couple of blocks south.

When visiting in person for a seated dinner, this place is great! What we have come to find out is they don't care to ensure the same service for takeout. We thought the first time was a fluke when they missed an item, but every time we order from them, there is either a missing item or some randomly substituted item not even similar to the one that was initially ordered. When called to address the issue we have been told it was the fault of the delivery driver and to address the issue with the delivery service (usually uber eats). Not sure how we never seem to have any issues with other restaurants but 3 out of 4 times ordering from this place, we have not received our correct order.

Really impressed with Commonwealth Indian. I asked which was spicier, lamb vindaloo or rogan Josh and he suggested I go with the vindaloo. It had a very nice kick, flavor and was plentiful with lamb pieces that fell apart like vindaloos I'm used to. The mulligatawny soup was also very good and tastes similar to the kind I make at home. It was quite a good portion of food for the price, and service was good. The soup does not come with a meal though and it an extra $9. The only disappointment of the meal was the bread, it was kinda dry and bland. It seemed homemade but I have had better garlic naan for sure.

This was my first time to eat at an Indian restaurant and the food here did not disappoint. We had the garlic naan, butter chicken, and crab curry. Everything was so good! The ambiance felt really upscale, but the prices were more than reasonable for the overall feel of the restaurant and the taste of the food! Service was also great and we were seated quickly. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious comfort food.

First time trying Commonwealth Indian restaurant, I'm so glad one of my friends told me about it as I work out at the gym right across the street. It's on old Georgetown Road so if you don't know about it you might miss it. We went for lunch and it was fantastic! The restaurant is beautiful, the service, top-notch, and the food was delicious! Really looking forward to coming back again, highly recommend you try this place out as you will not be disappointed!

Coming from the UK originally, it was nice experiencing a real raj style ambiance. The staff was attentive, the food was delicious, and according to my wife the cocktails were also pretty stellar. Located in the fancy part of Rockville, amidst restaurants and bars, but suddenly upon entering, the quiet mood is worth the high prices-our birthday dinner

I came to this place on a whim on a Friday afternoon. The decor was beautiful. It had a nice size bar and plenty of tables. We sat at a table near the bar that had very comfortable seating. The service was very good. We had a number of waiters check in on us during our dining experience. We ordered pomegranate martinis ($15) to start. It was delicious. Not to strong or sweet. We had vegetable samosas as an appetizer. They were a nice size, filled with vegetables with a nice flaky crust. I ordered the chicken tikka Marsala (20.99) which included rice and garlic naan for my entree. My friend ordered the spinach with chicken or lamb. The food arrived nice and hot. The presentation was good and the food was delicious. It was bursting with flavor. There was so much food that we ended up bringing most of it home. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was very good. I will definitely return. It's a very nice restaurant, the servers were very attentive and it's reasonably priced. The only downside is they don't offer a happy hour.

Still great, read previous review for full details. Our server gets kudos for today's visit. We were a group of six, and we split the bill in two. After my friend and myself had submitted our parts, with gratuity, our server pointed out to us that the gratuity had already been included so we didn't double tip. I appreciate his honesty quite a bit! Also, adding some notes for myself for next time. The lamb biryani has a good spice level, has some kick and is not nuclear. Very tasty. The "coastal shrimp" may be somewhat spicy as well (though I didn't try it) - a friend's kid said it was too spicy. They are from TX but maybe they have MD spice tolerance, not sure :D

The waiters are so welcoming and kind! They made our family feel right at home and explained the popular menu items to us. All the dishes we ordered were delicious! - malai kofta - roasted eggplant - lamb chops - dal - roti Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. I definitely want to try their lunch buffet (once it comes back) and their thali lunch items.

True vindaloo! Spice level not for amateurs!! Naan was tasty. Portions are good. Ordered takeout and it was prepared quickly.

Wow, what an experience! I came here for lunch and I must say, it was one of the best meals I've had. First off, I must say the service was impeccable and top notch. They were very attentive and made sure we were taken care of. The decor is amazing, very pleasing to the eye. My guest and I ended up ordering from the thali menu. We got the Subz Thali, which came with a samosa, 3 entrees, with daal (lentil soup), and raita (flavored yogurt). It was very flavorful and scrumptious. I've had thali's at other restaurants in the area that came with similar dishes, but this one was probably one of the best I've had. Even better, for its price, its very reasonable. Amazing service, amazing food, just an amazing experience overall.

I'm so used to being disappointed by dining in at Indian restaurants that I rarely opt to do it. But, we ended up deciding to try Commonwealth for my mom's birthday and it was a HIT. Highlights include - mango spinach chaat, the alleppy fish curry, and the service! I also highly recommend the chettinad chicken, but strongly encourage you to request it mild. We brazenly went for an 8/10 spice and deeply regretted our mistake. We were able to soothe our bellies with the sitaphal kulfi though :) Absolutely don't expect anything nice from their 'outdoor dining' - their location puts them in a tough spot for enjoying the outdoors, unless traffic and construction are your thing. But the interior is lovely and well worth a visit!

Sooooo good! Best Dahl I've had! Best local to Rockville! The Vindaloo is one of the best and spicy without having to customize! Hot enough to be interesting without overwhelming the dish, but flavorful enough without losing cohesiveness!!!

Shared a wonderful meal with my friends today. From the relaxing, well designed interior of the restaurant, the comfortable seats, the table tops, everything... it's top notch. The food is amazing. Never had a better Palak mango chat (love the plate presentation) - spices on POINT! So good. I had the chicken tikka Masala, shrimp curry and it was wonderful. The garlic cheese naan is the best ever. The staff is friendly and the chef ‍ truly cares about you having a great meal. Thank you!

Really bad food. Butter chicken was bland having huge pieces of chicken with no flavor. Garlic naan was totally different than typical naan. It was dry and tasteless. Ambience of the restaurant was really good but unfortunately I cannot say same thing about food.
