Such a great spot! The decor is fresh, unique, and super cozy. Fair warning—it’s a little chilly inside, so bring a jacket if you’re not a fan of cooler spaces (personally, I loved it!). The coffee was delicious—I tried the cookie butter iced latte and you could really taste the cookie butter in every sip. 10/10 recommend!

Beautiful space, excellent coffee. The Tidewater Sunrise pour-over is a standout—fruity, smooth, and clean. The cortado is also above average—balanced and satisfying. The floral-themed decor and high ceilings create a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere. A lovely spot to enjoy quality coffee and relax. The bakery selection is quite limited though.

Really cool coffee shop and eclectic vibe! Stopped by here as a first timer today and must say I was impressed. The pour-over I chose was outstanding, full-bodied, full of flavor and the customer service was great. I throughly enjoyed my pour-over and also had a Cookie Butter Latte and something called a Morning Glory Muffin during my visit. I fell in love with both the drink and muffin. OMG, it was so good....It needs to be renamed to the "Hallelujah" Muffin folks. Just try one....warmed....& thank me later! Choir voices were singing in my ears with eat bite. lol The vibe of this coffee is very eclectic, with unique seating and workspaces. The is even a mini office station and meeting space/room equipped with a printer and office supplies to assist you while taking in a bit of telework....while enjoying your coffee. Well, I'll put it this way. The perfect place to keep your productivity high. It appeared that the printer and office supplies were available for your use.....but don't quote me by it....nor the posted-note I used while there. lol. The place is completely wired and offers free WiFi connectivity as well. I will say...a couple of the outlets in the shop was broken or not working, but this is not a deterrent. Just make sure you have a back charger or something if you are stay long or need extra juice. In all, a great coffee shop and really cool atmosphere. From the great coffee products, unique work spaces, relaxing environment, on-point music flow and snacks.....this place gets two Big-Thumbs Up from me! I mean who knew!? I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and time here. I've seen this place several times when I would make a stop at the Whole Foods next-door, but never bothered to venture in and see what's inside. Well today., I found a new coffee spot in the VA area that I will be frequenting on repeat when on this side of town or in the neighborhood. Will definitely be back.

This inviting coffee shop is conveniently located next to the Whole Foods Market in Pentagon City. It features a high ceiling decorated with hanging flowers, bookshelves, and merchandise displays. The ambiance is impressive, thanks to large windows that allow plenty of natural light to fill the space. Washington City Paper has recognized this establishment as the Best Coffee Shop in Washington, D.C., for several consecutive years. The coffee exhibited a delightful balance of subtle bitterness and acidity, enhanced by the richness of the creamy milk. The breakfast croissant and savory burrito were both satisfying, while the apple Danish complemented the coffee selections.

Google
I love the coffee, and been a customer for a while. But my last purchase (5lb) skyline overlook was definitely not what I used to drink. When the time I was taking the bag to buy, it was warm, noticing it was in direct sunlight. I would suggest you guys to move coffees to avoid direct sunlight. My coffee now tastes abnormal, burnt, or like roasted few years ago.

Google
I would love to give this place more stars based on solely the service and atmosphere of the shop itself, but the coffee was so bad. I intentionally opted for Commonwealth over somewhere else because it had the highest rating amongst the other coffee shops in the area, but I genuinely think I may have been better off getting coffee at the Whole Foods coffee bar. My brother got an oat milk cappuccino and I got an iced cookie butter latte with oat milk – the oat milk is watery and overpowered the cappuccino while lacking the expected level of foam. As for the cookie butter latte, I'm not sure if it's the cookie butter flavoring they use, but the texture of the drink is gritty and lacks the cookie butter flavor it promises. Overall, the shop is beautiful and seems like a nice place to study, but if you're looking to grab some good coffee and go like me, I would suggest trying somewhere else in the area.

Google
Decent chai latte and pretty average service. The café itself was inviting, and I especially loved the space with its massive windows that let in plenty of light. I had my order taken by a staff member who was slightly friendly but felt more indifferent and impersonal. After ordering, I noticed they had a seasonal fall menu, and the honey chai latte caught my eye. My drink was made by a barista who also seemed indifferent and didn’t seem like she wanted to be there (a bit of a letdown). The chai was okay—on the spicier side, which I didn’t mind, and it had a unique taste I hadn’t experienced in a while. Although I appreciated the café's overall vibe, the service didn’t quite match up, which was a shame.

Google
The food is super limited but what they do have is always tasty. Great customer service, order comes out pretty quickly. They have creative menu items and the seasonal stuff is always fun and unique! Love that they change up the atmosphere/decor each season, too. Makes for a fun treat to see they’ve revamped with the changing weather!

Yelp
Top tier cafe Great coupons and membership/point system Customer service is immaculate I work walking distance from this pleasant cafe, and I am truly spoiled

Yelp
Went to Commonwealth Joe for the first time today. Got the Iced Pumpkin Cookie Butter Latte. I normally love a sweet drink but this might've been a little too sweet for my taste but was still yummy. I loved the fall decor especially the ceiling decoration. I came to this cafe to work and I loved the little hooks and availability of power blocks. One tidbit is that most of the seating options didn't have any back support and there isn't a ton of table space. Additionally, I heard a couple of songs replayed over a two hour span which is a very niche critique but something I noticed . Nonetheless I'd like to come back and try one of the other three featured fall drinks.

Abbey S.

Yelp
such a cute local coffee shop! they have lots of fun, unique drink options as well as classics. love a good seasonal, limited edition menu! service was quick and efficient, and the vibes are great as a study spot. typical prices for coffee shops in the area. cinnamon roll and coffee were good but not mind-blowing. i would still go back and try other things on the menu!!!

Christine M.

Yelp
Definitely just okay. I LOVE coffee, and I felt like I was served subpar drinks. My husband's seasonal Strawberry Rose Lemonade Spritzer was just "okay." There were some bubbles, but it severely lacked flavor. It was more like a watered-down pink lemonade. My nitro cold brew was basically a cold brew... no nitro at all. I love the creaminess of a good nitro coffee. This wasn't it. Additionally, I asked for a dark roast coffee, and it was medium-bodied at best. While there was no one waiting, we did wait a couple of minutes for someone to take our order. I'm not one to do this, but you'd probably find better coffee at Starbucks...

Zakeyah D.

Yelp
The store is beautiful, very clean, and organized with everything beautifully on display. The worker was amazing with their service (I never got their name) with giving me samples, explaining everything to me, and also just dealing with how difficult I was with adding more things to my coffee after purchasing it. Best coffee and super smooth!!

Smitha M.

Yelp
This is a nice coffee shop located in walking distance to many hotels in the Crystal City area. The inside layout is well set up for people who want to work remotely or meet with friends. The outside seating is well situated to get the sun but also have shade from the hot sun. I ordered a rose latte and it was delicious. However, I wasn't feeling quite keen on service. There was no clear sign on what type of flavors were available for the latte and when I asked staff, I didn't get a full clear response and they expressed in hesitation not to share the full list of latte flavors. I think customer communication can be improved where the interactions can be slowed down and be more personable instead of rushing to get the next order, especially if it is hard to hear someone.

Tasnia H.

Yelp
My preferred location to get coffee or teas over any Starbucks/Dunkin location! Staff are always nice and their seasonal items are all fantastic.

Abdias H.

Yelp
I had a cold brew latte drink that was really nice and one of the turkey egg white sandwiches that was very delicious. The service here was quick and efficient and there is plenty of space to sit and work or study.

Karen T.

Yelp
Always a great place to co work, get a pick me up in the afternoon! Always hustling with neighbors looking to get out of the house

Kate H.

Yelp
What else can be said besides this being the best coffee in the DMV. I'm obsessed! The fall flavors are fantastic. Not much for food options but the coffee is worth it for any singular trip!

Iulia G.

Yelp
I'm not new to Commonwealth Joe, since they used to deliver their cold brew keg to a company I worked for years ago. I still remember how their cold brew would be gone within a day or two, so I always made sure I was waiting with my cup when they delivered it hahaha. It was yummy and it kept me wired for the workday. Whenever I'm in Crystal City, I make sure to stop by CWJ to grab a latte and check out their seasonal window murals. Lattes have been hit or miss for my taste, but mostly a hit which is why I keep going back. Their staff is friendly and welcoming. Their staff is why I decided to write this review. On my recent visit to CWJ, I forgot to mention "less ice" when ordering the delicious peach matcha latte. By the time I mentioned it, I realized that it was my drink that the barista had just finished preparing. I was going to have it as-is, but the barista didn't even hesitate before pouring my drink into another cup but with less ice this time. It's the little things that make an experience stand out. Management, kudos on a great team! Commonwealth Joe offers bright space with tall ceilings, so expect people on their laptops or just reading a book.

Bucie M.

Yelp
I needed a serious coffee fix so I got some coffee delivered and I was pleasantly surprised! They use such a great quality of coffee which is on the darker roast side. I ordered an Iced Mocha with Oatmilk and the chocolate they used balanced the coffee really well. I definitely want to stop by the actual shop for the full experience soon so I can let you know more about the space, service and the ambiance. I love that the coffee was delivered within 25 minutes too.

Ramya R.

Yelp
A great little coffee shop.I love trying their seasonal flavor coffees, which are always unique and delicious. They also have a great selection of pastries and other snacks. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I highly recommend checking out this place if you're in that area and looking for a great cup of coffee.

Allie H.

Yelp
Saw them on Instagram and was drawn to visit here! Whoever runs the Instagram is a genius because the pictures and videos were beautiful. Tried two seasonal lattes. The brown sugar was sweet and delicious. If you like the brown sugar shaken espresso from Starbucks you should try this because it is definitely an upgrade! Next was the pumpkin cookie butter. If you're a cookie butter fan and want a fun fall treat this is it! It's a little busy but drinks came out fairly quickly. For sure worth the Metro ride out of the city for this!

Ellie S.

Yelp
One of my favorite things to do while traveling is visit new coffee shops. Commonwealth Joe was absolutely the cutest. The vibes were great, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I would give it 5 stars just for service. I got one of their specials, the slightly sweet oat milk latte. It was delicious! However it was served without ice which I wasn't expecting. I would have loved for it to be iced. Because we were hungry and in a hurry, we got two of their breakfast sandwiches from the cold case which they heated for us. They were good - but still kind of cold in the middle! I don't get the idea that this place is known for food, but their coffee is great. It was really cute with great coffee and definitely worth a stop in!

Sabrina A.

Yelp
Meet Commonwealth Joe, a coffee shop that knows how to do both coffee and vibes right. I always used to get their cookie butter iced latte but since switching to matcha only, I tried their cherry blossom peach iced matcha latte and it did not disappoint. They do pop ups for every season so their decor is always changing. They play fun music and have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Overall awesome gem in Crystal City!

Yelp
My spouse and I recently relocated to the DC area and stumbled upon Commonwealth Joe, and let me tell you, it's been a delightful discovery that we can't get enough of! From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed by the fantastic atmosphere and a staff that exudes warmth and friendliness. The cozy ambiance makes it the perfect spot to unwind, catch up on work, or simply enjoy a cup of exceptional coffee. Speaking of coffee, Commonwealth Joe has won our hearts with their incredible Nitro Cold Brew selection. In the short 5 days since we moved here, we've made it a point to visit almost every day to indulge in their delicious offerings. The A customer favorite! Cold Brew Latte made with Oat milk and their Spiced Cinnamon Syrup is an absolute game-changer. The rich, velvety texture coupled with the subtle spiced kick creates a symphony of flavors that dance on your taste buds. Equally impressive was the Cold Brew Latte made with Oat milk and their French Vanilla Lavender Syrup. The delicate floral notes from the lavender combined with the smoothness of French Vanilla create a harmonious blend that is nothing short of extraordinary. What sets Commonwealth Joe apart is not just the quality of their coffee but the attention to detail in every sip. The baristas seem to have mastered the art of crafting the perfect cup, ensuring each visit is a consistently delightful experience. In summary, if you find yourself in the DC area and have a love for exceptional coffee, Commonwealth Joe is the place to be. It's become our daily haven, and we can't wait to explore more of their menu. Kudos to the team for making our first week in DC memorable, one sip at a time!

Kish M.

Yelp
coffee is the best in DC, and the whole staff is friendly. I don't even get the lattes and specialty drinks, I just stick with iced coffee, and it's the best.

Jacky C.

Yelp
This local coffee shop has slowly grew on me and I've been coming here more frequently than at the Starbucks up one block. I can now see why they're always jam packed. I love their seasonal menu drinks and always make sure to try all of their lattes that they release. Every staff member I've ever interacted with are always friendly and you'll always leave with a smile on your face. If you live in a nearby apartment, keep on eye out for 50% off cards that may be stashed around to save you some $$$.

Stephanie C.

Yelp
I got the Iced French Vanilla Lavender latte and it was good but tasted kind of basic just like a Starbucks drink with lots of milk. I give it a 3 out of 5. The lavender flavor was a little strange in this drink. The whipped cream was good though. I like the interior of coffee shop and it has outdoor seating as well. Might have ordered the wrong drink. Will be back to try a couple more drinks and update my review. --- Edit: I've since gone back and tried the Pumpkin Cookie Butter Latte 4/5 and the Pumpkin Cookie Butter Cold Foam 2.5/5. The pumpkin cookie butter flavor was delicious with bits of cookie butter on the bottom. Again there was too much milk in it for me. The Cold Foam coffee was too bitter but that could be because they were out of cold brew so I substituted their dark roast. The foam was tasty but that didn't make up to the bitterness and lack of depth in the coffee. Personally I prefer Starbuck's Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew for the perfect mix of coffee and cream. If you like Starbuck's PSL though you might want to try CWJ's Pumpkin Cookie Butter Latte.

Shannon S.

Yelp
The coffee is really good here. I have visited twice, the first time I had a cinnamon roll latte. The latte was very good. The second time I had a caramel iced latte. It was so delicious. Pure perfection. The first time I visited it was pretty chill since it was close to closing time, but the second time I visited, it was around midday and it was quite busy. The employees are nice and the coffee is really good so I have no complaints, it's worth the wait. Parking is not the easiest, but there are garages nearby.

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
Couldn't decide so I got both the cascara fizz and the Strawberry Shortcake Latte - Iced. I was right to get both! Omg! Delicious! The fizz is totally unique and the strawberry is perfectly sweet

Sydnie C.

Yelp
This is the perfect spot to work remote! There's free wifi, lots of natural light and yummy coffee options. They also have the biggest almond croissants. I've never had to wait too long for my drink or pastry and the staff has always treated me very kindly. I do appreciate how cheery they all are. P.S you have to come here first fall or cherry blossom season. Their decorations are adorable.

Teri K.

Yelp
Super cute, chill vibe spot where instantly you feel intrigued to try all the things! I got the Morning Muffin & Ham & Cheese Croissant....don't even think about, just GET IT, them BOTH!!! 10/10! Yummy!

Seana A.

Yelp
I stopped here on my way to the the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. This place had some fun decor and was a great place to stop at. I was interested in having the coffee cake, but since the cashier couldn't say for sure what ingredients were in it, I decided to just have a Chai Tea Latte. She was very nice and helpful when I inquired. The Chai Tea Latte was delicious and the pick me up that I needed as I started my exploration. I highly recommend that you stop here if you are in the area.

Grace B.

Yelp
Went with a few friends and it was so cute! Had adorable holiday decorations, a lot of diverse seating, free wifi, and amazing drinks! The staff was very nice and the cardamom latte was delicious! highly recommend!

Jen O.

Yelp
Best in DC! Friendly staff, beautiful space, great service, and amazing coffee. They take pride in their roasting and local roots.

Laresa M.

Yelp
I came here for the first time on a Sunday and was already back 2 days later. The location and reviews are what brought me in. The yummy pumpkin butter cookie latte, cinnamon bun, comfortable seating with plenty of space to study or chat with a friend, great service, and all around great space is what brought me back. They have lots of great seasonal flavors, including a spiced peanut butter latte which will be my next choice of fall latte! The cinnamon bun was just right, not overly sweet and baked beautifully. The baristas were busting their butts and the entire place was very clean. I've already told friends about it who already have a drink picked out for when they visit!

Lia M.

Yelp
Commonwealth Joe is a great coffee shop. I remember when they were a mobile operation around Arlington and have been a fan since then. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I appreciate that they open early. In addition to their delicious lattes, they have a few roasts on nitro, which is fantastic. I love nitro cold brew. Also, they sell a vegan spanokopita that is absolutely delicious and I'm obsessed. I always look forward to my Commonwealth Joe visits.

Ailun H.

Yelp
It's been awhile, but my friend and I stopped by yesterday afternoon for a quick coffee and chat. The rainy and dreary weather prompted me to order a small vanilla latte. Overall, not bad. The vanilla was definitely sweeter than I'd like and took away from the espresso taste. Next time, I'll get it with oat milk. Given that I've been here 4-5x in the past, I'd say a 3.5/5 is the average of all my experiences so far, but will bump my review up to a 4/5 for nice baristas and the aesthetic interior.

Yvonne W.

Yelp
Cute spot! Great for chatting with friends and get some work done. But the coffee isn't that great! If you want to buy beans you would get 25% off your coffee so definitely look into that if you want to purchase their beans. I think their coffee is just not flavorful bold enough for my taste. But really really cute spot:) great for locals and to hang out.

Jonelle T.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop with fantastic nitro cold brew. Line was long, but moved quickly and my chocolate croissant also hit the spot. They have a nice selection of coffees, beverages and pastries, along with a seasonal menu.

Chelsea A.

Yelp
If you're looking for a good local coffee shop in Arlington, VA, look no further. Commonwealth Joe's makes you appreciate the season you're in with the decor around the cafe, and the coffee that they serve (especially their seasonal menu). I've always had a sip of my friend's lavender oat milk latte, which we all agree is the best drink on the menu, but I usually stick with black drip coffee. The medium/light roasts were a little too floral for me (Monticello Sunrise and Shenandoah Spring), but if you're into floral notes in your medium/light rosy coffee, I recommend trying these blends. Since I seem to be a dark roast person over here, I really loved the Blue Ridge Bluff - just the right amount of sweetness with a pack of turbinado sugar - and notes of chocolate...YUM! Seating is pretty limited, but if you can get a comfy corner seat, you've won the lottery of the day here! The Wi-Fi is free and the ambiance is cozy. I definitely recommend spending a morning getting a coffee and a baked good (if it fits your dietary restrictions) here! (Note in terms of baked goods: not too many gluten free items for my celiac/ gluten sensitive friends :( that would be my suggestion to CWJ's!!)

Sophia M.

Yelp
Held my Monday meet up for my campaign for State Senate here this morning Such a beautiful venue adorned with sunflowers hanging from the ceiling! Their Nitro Cold Brew is great! Even the pup tried to take a sip Visit www.Sophia4VA.com for our next coffee gathering!

Phoebe D.

Yelp
I had an iced vanilla latte and it was pretty good - it was a little bit too sweet and had a slight artificial taste but it was great value. The cinnamon roll latte, however, was way too sweet in my opinion and tasted like pure sugar. There's a decent amount of seating and lots of outlets but it was pretty crowded when I went on a Wednesday afternoon. Pretty good for a quick coffee fix and place to work if you're in the area!

Zack G.

Yelp
Small coffee shop with a TON of different coffee options Also have a few pastries as well All seating is either on stools or on a long bench that runs the length of the place I got a smokes latte and it was solid

Heather B.

Yelp
Great coffee and service - and such a fun menu! I got the Iced Cookie Butter Latte. I would definitely go back to try more of the fun seasonal drinks.

Diondra B.

Yelp
Great coffee shop in the area they have fun and seasonal flavors. I got the pumpkin flavor as how could you not going into the fall season. It was delicious. Wait was kinda long as it was busy with the morning rush but overall good experience

Maddie M.

Yelp
Best coffee shop in pentagon city. This place has been so faithful to me and always has the best working environment. It's cozy interior matches the warmth of their hot lattes and they have lots of fun different coffees to try from nitros to cold brews and everything in between. Thanks y'all

Kayla N.

Yelp
Wonderful place, beautifully decorated and everyone working there is so sweet. Got a cookie butter latte which truly tasted just like cookie butter. Can't wait to go here again, it seems like the perfect place to get a quick drink or chat w friends at.

Tom Y.

Yelp
Great coffee, great people. I recommend this place because of the variety of coffee beans. Quality of beans are surprisingly great. I will try all of those amazing beans soon. Friendly smile of server made my day!!!

Jessica H.

Yelp
After moving here several years ago, I can't live anymore without Commonwealth Joe. I come here at least once every week. Their coffee is second to none, and I love how they change up their menu every season with the most unique drinks. My personal to-gos are the cinnamon oat milk cold brew latte and the iced cookie butter latte! All the baristas are friendly, and my coffee is always ready quickly. Their decor is so beautiful and also changes every season! It does get packed on the weekends and in the mornings, so finding a place to sit and study can be difficult. The seats and desks are also not the most comfortable, but it's a very very small price to pay for their amazing coffee.

Rob S.

Yelp
I stopped in for a latte and decided to try their seasonal "Strawberry Truffle" latte. It was good and even had some strawberry bits. The staff was friendly and they had adequate electrical outlets.

Tom P.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time at CWJ for a coffee. Ordered a Carmel latte. I was very disappointed. It was very watered down, no flavor, and really no hint of Carmel. I was on the run so I wasn't able to go back in and mention it. I will give them another try because I am in this neighborhood a lot and want it to work.

David S.

Yelp
So this morning I came back for more fun. Usually I get the "Monticello sunrise nitro cold brew" just because I love Thomas Jefferson, Charlottesville and Monticello so much (Monticello is TJ's beautiful little mansion about 2 hr and 12 min drive SW from here). But today I decided to try something new, called the "Latte classico ghiacciato" (in Italian) in English "the iced classic latte) and it was superb. Nothing but espresso ice and a whole lot of milky milk, absolutely wonderful, kind of made me feel....."surreal" So yes I will be coming back for more of this amazing drink and other things in the future. Because the commonwealth of Virginia relies on Commonwealth Joe! Buona giornata!

Brittany Anne O.

Yelp
Visited this spot for a quick drink when I had an hour to kill before work. The barista who greeted me was friendly and made my drink quickly. I was really surprised to see so many different flavor options -- for cold brew on tap, flavored lattes, various milk options. I was boring and ordered a simple iced latte. It was delicious, but I would like to come back to try some of the seasonal flavors and other drinks available. There was a decent amount of high top seating near the windows and a few tables for sitting and chatting or getting a bit of work done. A fun corner spot location with a ton of natural light.

havana g.

Yelp
Staff was very nice and there are sandwiches they can warm up for you. Price I paid didn't match the price on the menu, but I didn't ask because I didn't realize until after I paid. The seasonal drinks are good as well. Would add some sweetener. Overall, good experience. Has work and coworking space as well.

Kevan S.

Yelp
I finally stopped in here for more than a quick coffee to go. I nabbed a small table for my computer to work and was there for about 3 hours typing away. A lot of people came through for coffee, I guess it's a popular place. I tried two coffee butter oatmilk lattes which were very good. The table didn't have a wall socket but they had a room that could fit a group of people that seemed to have it. The staff was friendly and I noticed they had a selection of cold brews on tap like a bar would have beer. The outdoor seating was popular and again no wall sockets but the airy sunlit ambience made it really relaxing to work in. I will definitely be back for a number of reasons.

Gabe C.

Yelp
CWJ is a great daily shop, conveniently located next to major hotel brands. It was part of my routine, along with a stop at Whole Foods next door. The true mark of consistency is that I was never tempted to walk one more block to Starbucks. There is enough diversity of drinks to satisfy a week's worth of travel. I had drip a few days, very good and no burnt taste. Their loose leaf teas are a nice touch. It would be great to have more food options, but as mentioned there is a WF next door. So, it may be intentional to only stock minimum selection and focus on the drinks. Ambiance is business casual. Service is good.
