‘I Thought I Was All Done With That’: COVID Surge Forces Restaurants to Shut Down Temporarily | Eater Chicago

"The regional hospital in Munster, Indiana where the owner was admitted overnight after developing pneumonia and was diagnosed with COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated; the stay was described as frightening given an underlying condition (juvenile asthma), and the facility is noted as being relatively close to the owner's home in Dolton." - Ashok Selvam

Was traveling from out of town and had an emergency. Staff was excellent from the Er to the observation unit. All questions were answered and they were very transparent. I felt heard and valued as a patient. Nurses, Art and Gabby were amazing and Ms.Louis, who drew my blood, felt like a huge hug (if a hug were human😊)

I would like to sincerely thank the entire nursing team for the exceptional care I received after my surgery. I am especially grateful to Sherri, Tori, and Lyndee, who went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, safe, and well cared for during my recovery. Their kindness, patience, and attentiveness truly made a difference during a vulnerable time. They took the time to listen, explain things clearly, and respond quickly to my needs, which helped ease my anxiety and made my recovery much smoother. It is clear they genuinely care about their patients, and I am incredibly thankful to have had them as my nurses. Please extend my deepest appreciation to them for the outstanding care they provided

I had a great experience in the emergency room because I went in in a lot of pain from my sciatic nerve and they gave me the medication and took a MRI and my nurse Morgan was amazing, she was so friendly and knowledgeable and let me know everything I needed to do with my injury and really could tell she cared a lot about her patients and I hate needles and she gave me a shot and didn't even know she did it she was so good at her job!! Felt so much better coming out of there than I did going in!!!!

I came here to get some imaging done and everyone I interacted with was super friendly and helpful. I walked into the wrong half of the building at first, but two staff personally escorted me all the way across the hospital to where I was supposed to go. The receptionists in imaging were prompt and friendly, the rad tech taking my pictures gave clear instructions and was respectful of my modesty, and when I got lost on my way out a doctor stopped to give me directions. Overall a very pleasant experience and I’m very appreciative of everyone who helped me today.

Tonight I visited the hospital with my 3-year-old son, who was having trouble breathing. From the moment we arrived, the staff treated my baby with such care and immediate attention. Everyone was kind, gentle, and quick to respond. Mary at the front desk greeted us with a warm smile and was so sweet when we first walked in. Sam at triage was incredibly caring and patient. Payton, the R2 Respiratory Therapist, gave me so much helpful information and tips to help my baby cough and breathe easier. She even talked and played with him, tickling him to make him smile during his treatment. The doctor was detailed, patient, and informative, making sure I understood everything. I know this job isn’t easy, and I truly commend you all. I had been at work since 6 a.m. and rushed straight to the ER exhausted, but you all made my night. Baby Tony is doing so much better, and it’s all because of you. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. This team deserves to be recognized for their compassion, professionalism, and genuine care. You went above and beyond — and that makes all the difference. 💛

This hospital is awesome!! Never in my Life have I had such a pleasant experience in the ER. The staff was very attentive, caring, professional & efficient. I felt awful but they made me feel so good in my heart. You could feel their warm spirits.

Google
Not a bad hospital.... Certain Healthcare providers need to be retrained. Their bedside manners and listening skills arent good. Waiting time was excellent. I would recommend community anybody.

Google
Went to the ER with a friend .who was admitted for observation. While waiting for my friend a person was coughing up a storm. AND NOT WEARING A MASK. That was on Monday Last night I started to feel sick. I began coughing. Bad head ache bad body ache. Bad sinus congestion THAT PERSON SHOULD HAVE HAD A MASK ON . If you have a cough or are sneezing. WEAR A MASK. I hope I do not get my 91 yo mom sick

Yelp
It's been a long 2 weeks. After the ER debacle at Silver Cross Hospital, my husband brought me here where I was admitted for 7 days. Lumbosacral root pain is unlike anything I've ever experienced. The ER staff were top notch and worked hard to relieve my pain and admitted me to find out the root of the problem. Every nurse, technician, assistant, doctor, specialist, etc. was attentive and helpful. It was a neurosurgeon who discovered that a screw in my lumbar area is touching my sciatic nerve. There is nothing to be done about it as it's too risky. However, we are going to do extensive rehabilitation to build the muscle around the area. It will help to manage the pain. More about that when I begin the sessions. So, if you're looking for attentive, knowledgeable, and expert care, this hospital is the place to go. I'm grateful for everyone who helped care for me.

Yelp
I absolutely love this hospital. Excellent quality of care Every time we have had to go to Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana. Today, my Mom was scheduled for a colonoscopy. The procedure was performed by Dr. Chang and his superb surgical team/staff. All of the nurses were friendly, professional and attentive. Following the procedure; Dr. Chang came into the room and explained the entire procedure along with all of his findings. He is able to explain everything in layman's terms. Overall experience...5 stars.

Yelp
My experience from the ER to a room on the 6th floor hasn't been the greatest. Dirty floors. Dead flies in the hospital room. Dust in corners. Packaging from medical supplies lying around the floor or under the bed. Cleanliness is not what you might expect from a hospital. As for care, it was hit or miss. A few ER nurses are on the top of their game. Especially those on the 6th floor. Doctors however, not so much. Just hope your primary care physician is in town when you are admitted or else you get what you get and it's not the greatest care. In fact, it's confusing and contradictory. I had an awful time being discharged. Even the pharmacy at the hospital is all over the place. Not being aware of orders submitted. Being discharged early on a Saturday was chaos. From being wheeled downstairs to attempting to get prescriptions filled at the hospital. It wasn't an easy task. I will also comment on the service in the front ER checkin as despicable. From yelling at patients to making you wait without providing chairs in the waiting room...it was not a good experience.

Yelp
I had went into the hospital because I lost the ability to urinate. It is not a urinary tract infection as I had no other signs or symptoms. I did have a break out of shingles near that area. I went to the hospital freaking out, thinking I had an STD, but it was confirmed that it was definitely shingles, what a terrible place to get it let me tell you! So I guess that shingles has some kind of connection with the nerves in your body. That's why the breakouts usually end up in one area. It was only on the left side of my body where I had the shingles. OK, so that being said they gave me a CAT scan and then they did an MRI the next morning to make sure that my nerves were OK. They never found out the reason why I couldn't go to the bathroom but inserted a catheter and just said that, maybe my bladder needed a rest. I have an appointment with a urologist on Tuesday that will remove the catheter and I guess hopefully I will be able to go to the bathroom then? If not, I have no idea what's next. Some of the nurses were very nice and some of them were very dismissive as were the doctors. One doctor came into my room and neither my mom or I could understand a word he said. We kept asking him to repeat himself. If someone is a muffler, they need to open their mouth wider and talk so a patient can actually understand what they're saying! 100. For a diabetic or pretty much anyone, the breakfast they served me was unreal. When I was finally able to eat the next day, the breakfast consisted of one tiny pancake, orange juice, milk, and coffee. Orange juice is loaded with sugar they considered it to be one carbohydrate exchange just as the pancake was one carbohydrate exchange. Honestly, I don't drink orange juice. I would've completely skipped it and went straight towards Just having a second pancake or at least an egg for protein. Make sure if you go to this hospital they actually give you the medicine that you're supposed to take every day and if they don't give it to you ask why not. I'm sure they'll charge my insurance for medicine that they didn't give me. When my husband went to pick up my medicine from Walmart. The worker told him that the hospital canceled some of my other medicines. They canceled medicines that I've been taking for years. Medicines that have nothing to do with the hospital or my visit . They canceled one of my diabetic meds which they had no right to do. I see an endocrinologist for those. I am on the right dosage. They canceled an anti-anxiety medicine which again is actually given to me by a mental health professional because I have really bad panic attacks and they cancelled that. So I don't know why I had to go through their pharmacy if they're calling Walmart and canceling medicines that I need. This whole ordeal has just made me lose complete faith in the hospital. Now I have to talk to two doctors to go ahead and rewrite prescriptions for the ones they canceled. I am pretty livid. I'm trying to recover and I am in a lot of pain and dealing with. This is just a lot.

Yelp
Dr David Stewart was the best! You have let down a lot of patients that won't be returning.

Yelp
I am startled by how much the bill came to. 90% of the time I was in waiting room and then waiting hall of ER. Didn't get a room. My heart was not placed on a monitor. My bill came to over $4000. No ambulance was called. I just waited about 90% or more of the time. Sad!

Yelp
I came into the Er in April 19th or 20th I don't remember, complaining that I believe I had bruised my coccyx/tailbone. I could barely walk and was short of breath because the pain felt like I kept knocking the wind out of myself. I arrived at 3pm when I was seen I felt very dismissed I told the doctor that I had taken a naproxen that I had left over to try and help with the pain but it didn't help. They did an x-ray and told me they didn't find anything mind you the area was so swollen and tender you could see it through my pants not to mention it was purple. The waiting area felt like a Covid hotspot it was DISGUSTING and so were the bathrooms. When I finally saw the doctor around 9:45pm he didn't ask to see my back or anything just told me that the X-rays showed nothing and just to take Tylenol and if I have pain still IN A MONTH to come back. I told him I had already took a naproxen and it didn't nothing to where he just shrugged his shoulders and told me I can go back to work the next day because I was walking and I needed to stretch it. I asked him to write me a note to at least take one day off because I was in a lot of pain to where I was met with an eyeroll but he did it anyway. I had never felt so dismissed before. I went to my primary doctor the next month because the pain hadn't gone away it had gotten worse and he was LIVID. He immediately put me on a week long round of steroids and put me on muscle relaxers and got me into physical therapy. Not only did I bruise my coccyx but it was out of alignment and my sciatic nerve suffered damage and because I let it sit so long it got worse. Thanks to doctor Patel I'm doing SO MICH BETTER.

Yelp
The staff was very helpful helpful go me in right away they got on the case very professional caring safe just great service admitting er and third flood cardiac Thank you

Yelp
Horrible starting in the er no one checks on you once placed in room, your monitor will go off for an hour before anyone even bothers to check on you. When monitors go off you can hear the nurses making comments "oh we should just shut them all off". Very un professional, a disgrace to the healthcare system and the well being of patients.

Marilyn W.

Yelp
Dr Clemency who is a wound Dr was totally unprofessional. He had me do a Doppler and when he came into the room, I said good morning. The Doppler was good. He said I'm not here to socialize. Just let me do what I have to do. He was out of the room in 45 seconds.

Yelp
I found this physician to be quite rude, which left me feeling embarrassed. I'm experiencing significant issues with my testicles. I had to expose myself in front of a few nurses, and he refused to complete any of the necessary paperwork for my job that would allow me to go back to work. Physician MOHAMMED HASHIM was very uncooperative regarding the paperwork for my work protocol; he printed my diagnosis but wouldn't fill out my return-to-work form. This could potentially lead to my termination, which is very unprofessional and discourteous behavior on his part.he seemed like he was more worried about his looks then me flipping his long hair and blinking his green eyes very bad experience

Yelp
Been here 4 hrs. Sitting in ER hall with my gf who is having major chest pains, has cancer, has MEN1 rare disease. They gave her pain meds and benadryl and haven't been back in 2.5 hours now. The floors are disqusting they have moved people in and out of rooms while we sit in a disgusting hall and she is passed out on the rolling bed. I think they forgot about her yet we are in a f@#king hall. Horrible hospital recommend CVS urgent care above here.

Yelp
In December 2021 I was admitted to this hospital for lumbar fusion. As I was in pre-op, getting injected to go under, the assistant anesthesiologist yelled, "You are never coming to this hospital again because you are not vaccinated!" The operating room nurse (named Karen) yelled, "You are going to DIE!";4 times. My wife and the entire stall heard this. The entire staff heard this including my doctor. The patient advocate said SORRY.

Antionique P.

Yelp
The nicest person in this emergency room was the house keeping lady . I would not sent a fcking dog here!

Yelp
October 25 2023 I went to ER of Community Hospital for chronic pain Doctor Garoza accused me of pill seeking he told me he couldn't give me opioid's and to take aleve or Tylenol I was trying to explain that those medications did not work and they had caused me to loose my teeth and I am allergic to most of the medicines I have tried many alternatives so he accused me of the name calling I never called him a stupid doctor he now has stained my records with behavioral pain seeking I want it removed immediately I do not regularly go to hospital when my chronic pain flares up! I do understand that there is an opioid pandemic and I was not trying to get any pain medicine prescription But would like to acknowledge Dawn she was very compassionate and understanding

Anna M.

Yelp
We visited the emergency department today and it was super busy. However, we were checked in and seen by a doctor in less than two hours.

Carolyn A.

Yelp
If you don't want to die do not take one step in this hospital. The doctors operate in a complete silo and don't communicate among themselves or with family members. Shit care is how i would describe this place. They are only there to check the box. My beautiful mother didn't deserve to die the way she did. PS I waited a whole year to write this and I still feel sick to my stomach thinking about how my family and mother were treated.

Vicki M.

Yelp
My brother went in for back surgery. Was suppose to walk next day and then do rehab. 55 days later we take life support off of him. Not one doctor has any idea what happened. So heartbroken. Please don't take your loved ones there!!!!

Joan O.

Yelp
I have never been so disappointed and frustrated with a hospital before. my father is a patient of the hospital and was treated horribly. His primary never came to see him in the hospital and never called him regarding his PET scan results, although the results were emailed to my 87 yr old father with a malignancy outcome on his scan. I am an RN with over 30 years of experience and have never seen a patient treated so poorly. I wouldn't ever send anyone here.

Patricia B.

Yelp
I understand ER wait times cannot be avoidable but when you go in for chest/abdominal pain, causing SOB, and cold sweats where I'd prefer to be in labor instead....how is a 12hr wait reasonable. I got my results thru MyChart that showed everything normal...they could've of easily taken me back to a room & told me "You're fine. Results are normal. It's all part of having your positive diagnosis- go home and rest." Yet, I had to ask 3x for updates on how much longer & was told it's all based on cases. And each time, those registration ladies had an attitude when I asked. If you don't like being asked, then ladies, you're in the wrong job industry. And I was placed in a dirty isolated waiting room. Not once did any person come check to see if I was ok or needed anything. Heck, another person showed up hours after me and no one checked on him.

Danni W.

Yelp
This place has a few gem workers in there but I wouldn't advise going here to mother baby. The Dr on call was amazing However, A lot of employees are unprofessional & have an issue respecting and caring for Black individuals! Treated me as if I was an uneducated incompetent object instead of a person. Even my loved ones witnessed & were even treated the same during their visit with me & baby there. ESPECIALLY in Mother Baby!! I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN!!

Yelp
Friendly clean beautiful landscaping . Dint reflect desth and sickness like most hopitals. Nurses nurses are soft handed and not easily bothered the vending machine gave healthy snack choices and no long waits no seem to be rushing but still took csre of me in a timely manner

Yelp
We recently had my mother in Community Hospital after a horrific experience at Hartsfield Village (also owned by Community Healthcare System but a separate review). Once my mother was admitted to Community there was zero communication with the Hospitalists who were coordinating her care Imagine your loved one is in the hospital and you have no idea what is going on and No one will EVER speak to you If that is the service you were looking for when a loved one is sick then I guess community hospital is the place you should go in addition the nurses do not want to speak you either. It's a black hole And when we became extremely concerned about my mothers medical condition the nurse manager actually was lecturing us about why my mother was so confused turns out she had encephalopathy secondary to an infection that they had missed that was causing her to hallucinate Please take your loved ones to a teaching level hospital if at all possible this place is a hot mess zero leadership we had nurses lying to us just not impressive even the social worker did not communicate with us while she was trying to place my mother after discharge. I have heard that there is no leader ship at this hospital that at the highest level the person in charge is only there because of a family member based on our experience that is obvious . We felt that community Hospital was an accident waiting to happen it is no surprise to us that a patient was shot and killed by a security guard back in 2020. We especially felt this way when we had the experienced of the nursing staff not listening to us when we were concerned with my mothers mental state when she was hallucinating.

Yelp
Came in Around 5pm on a Monday to have girlfriend checked because she was pregnant and feeling a little weird, her blood pressure was just a little higher than normal, the doctors then said she had to get induced and told us they would start immediately without telling us why until the next day, or even giving us option on how we could proceed from here on, when the induction started it was 12am she was dilated 2cm when arrived, by 4am she was 5cm, then the doctors didn't come back around for about 8 whole hours, even though she should have been getting checked every 2 hours, then when they decided to come back and check on us it was already 1:30pm the next day and when they checked her dilation the babies head had already dropped and she was ready to give birth. Keep in mind they didn't check her dilate until I called the nurses from the room MYSELF because she was getting feverish, it might be a hunch but we believe it's because she was left unattended for so long. The birth itself was the only good part about being here, after the baby was born we had to stay another day due to getting checked making sure everything was okay, that was understandable. But throughout the night we only got checked on ONE Time, Like excuse me we are first time parents and you're not going to check on us regularly as you should? our whole stay we kept getting told we would get checked on every so and so hour, but when it came to it the nurses would take 3 hours 4hours an hour extra and so on. We were just upset at the whole situation we got put in once arriving at the hospital. At one point my girlfriend got put on blood pressure vitamins, the nurse who delivered the first pill to see what would happen said she would be back in 2 hours... 4 hours went by and it wasn't until a new shift started that we found out from another nurse that the previous nurses shift had ended, therefor we had to restart the whole vitamin process and observe her behavior after taking the pill AGAIN, after all this we had been here already for 3NIGHTS and 4DAYS. Another time my girlfriend started crying because she was getting stressed out by the whole thing like do you guys not see the strain your putting on us leaving us wondering whats gonna happen next not telling us anything for hours at a time? After about the second day My girlfriend then started feeling fine, saying she felt ready to go home when we would make the nurses and doctors acknowledge this they would blow over our opinions and proceed to say we still couldn't leave the hospital. Whenever we would ask when we would be discharged they would just ignore us and keep doing their thing, and it wouldn't be until the next shift change where a nurse would finally tell us we can't leave for another day. keep in mind during these times of covid-19 no one is allowed to walk in or out our room therefore we were stuck in one room practically against our wishes and when we asked a nurse if we could have someone bring us stuff to the door outside she said yes but when the time came to have someone drop off extra clothes and we asked her to pick it up at the door, she gave us a whole attitude stating "WHY DIDNT THEY BRING IT ALL THE WAY UP OR TELL A NURSE" like excuse me miss you just told us no one could come in so we had to get it dropped off? The whole hospital and the employees are contradicting themselves and what they say constantly, one nurse can say something and another nurse will say something completely different. Overall some nurses are good and have good intentions, unfortunately not all nurses carry out the job in a professional way they were taught to at a med school? There's still More that happened but I'm sure just reading enough of this you can tell how our personal experience was. God speed be with you if you come here, may god give you good personnel to look over you. The 2 stars are because of the good nurses we really appreciate you and your effort truly we do.

Yelp
If you want someone to get worse or even gone then send them here . Worse hospital ever . They should be charged with murder . Send my father for check-up and he came out in a body bag , my boy sent his mom for leg injury she came out in body bag .

Yelp
I had my firstborn daughter delivered here yesterday and words can't describe the care or attention the staff has shown my wife and I and my new born!!! Great nurses great CNA's everybody was great thankyou all for your services!!! You guys made my wife and I stay very welcoming!!!

Dave P.

Yelp
As I read the other reviews I find it a bit hard to believe. 2 weeks ago I had a left side hernia and right side hydrocele repaired. Got there at 9 am. On table at 1030 am. Not one person was rude, they all did a great job. My BP was crazy high. They got me in check. The anesthesia doc even came to check on me after surgeries! I had a great experience and don't have a bad word to say! Thank you Community Hospital and staff for great care on 9.23.2021

Yelp
Came to the emergency room because I stepped In a pothole and heard a pop In my knee over a week ago. First u can't get a drink out the vending machine everyone was so nice but damn for people here several hours, they immediately took me In for x-rays which I found off...bones don't pop, ligaments and tendons do, they just trying to hike up the bill for insurance purposes. I'm in a shit to. Of pain whenever I put wait or bend my knee to far, then they proceed to put me in this full leg immobilizer like you asked me if I drove here and I told u yes by myself you can keep this leg immobilizer I'll buy myself a knee brace tomorrow but this leg immobilizer I remember having 1 in like 1982 when I had knee stitches....like no it's been over 10-11 days that I been In pain, I just wanna know why and what's wrong and apparently this hospital is very generic and makes sure nothing is broken and pushes u out door, burn and turn for money

Nancy C.

Yelp
Despite long waits in the ER which seems to be common among all local hospitals, they did a wonderful job treating my mother who is 80 years old and has dementia. She was so combative and so scared but they were so kind to her in the ER. Seven hours after arriving she finally got a room. The gals on the fourth floor were amazing. They gave her a sitter named Dee who is astounding. The CNA Carolyn was amazing. She was the kindest, gentlest person I've ever seen. She took care of my mother like she was her own. The nurse Zorka was also tremendous. They attended mom's needs and were so kind. Mom was treated and got to come home three days later. Even the food was good

Yelp
Been here as a patient and as a visitor. Can't say that I have had a bad experience on either end. The doctors, nurses, aides, techs and other staff have always been the up most professional and courtesy. They will take the time to explain things to you and the family and give your the options to make the right informed choices. Despite the whole recent law suit with the cardiologists I still would stand by this hospital and its medical team.

Kayla B.

Yelp
When I visited this hospital My mother was checked in and then when my mother went to go do the blood test the lady asked why she was having one done (meaning she didn't even know why she was taking her blood)then one of the nurses said that the hospital was short staffed and when we first asked how long it was gonna be they said that the room has to be cleaned then when we asked again they didn't know how long it would be until they would see us when we finally got to the room it took them forever to see my mother and give her medicine but before they gave her the medicine they gave her a ice pack for a hernia that was causing my mother extreme pain in the right side of her stomach where she could not sit, barely walk, and was causing her to get sick to her stomach.

Camie C.

Yelp
What I thought was a good hospital, seemed to be mediocre. My cousin was admitted to the 2nd floor Neuro IMÇU, nurses Allison, Ashley and Lindsay were very nice. Tony was ok the day we met her, but her phone etiquette needs quite a bit of improvement and she is too condescending. Not everyone is a nurse and understands what the patient is going thru. On the other hand when I was there and Lindsay was on duty, she was caring and understanding. Kudos to Lindsay!! Than our cousin was transferred to the 4th floor rehab, what a joke!! Nurses there when I called daily were like it was a bother, and Crystal especially was like you are wasting her time. I was told by the social worker Joy, to bring clothes for her. We did and they never assisted her in dressing. Therapist are better at the Manor care she is at now, with a call immediately from the speech therapist after evaluating her at Manor care asking all sorts of questions. Was on a conference call with the 3 from the hospital and couldn't understand them because of a poor connection. Not once did we see our cousin sitting in a chair, always in bed where of course she has a sore on her back side. Stay away from the rehab floor!! Social services another JOKE!!! Start off with Mallory telling her since our cousin needed rehab to look into getting her here in Illinois where we live. She never followed up, Joy picked up the ball after 1 call from Mallory. After one call from Joy, Heather took over (what a whirl wind from person to person) can't one person complete the case?? I felt tossed around like a bouncing ball. Heather calls me on a Friday that our cousin is being moved to Manor Care on Sunday, and she would call me Sunday morning to give me a round about time of the move. Didn't want our cousin going to a nursing home thinking no one knows she is being moved. She has dementia. Sunday noon comes around, for some reason I felt like I had to call the hospital to find out that the ambulance came for our cousin and she was on her way. THANKS Heather for NO phone call, talk about lack of efficiency!!! Stay away from working with the social service dept. I wouldn't take my worst enemy to that hospital.

Yelp
Four months ago fell over a ladies cane at a food pantry. I was in excruciating pain and took uber to Comhs er. Hate x rays and was told it was arthritis and repeat x ray in a week which I did with the same diagnosis. Got into a hand surgeon 3 weeks later still in pain. looked at disc and it showed closed fracture of distal end of right radius. 6 weeks ago I feel on ice on my porch. Again so much pain. Was driver to Comhs er. took x rays and said it was a sprain and told to follow up with a podiatrist affiliated with same. Took 3 weeks to get into. I gave him the cd and he looked and touched my ankle and said don't jump on it. Finally followed up with podiatrist from Francisican. He looked at same cd and took 2 other xrays. He showed them to me and showed displaced fracture of lateral malleolus of left fibula. Both were found too late to cast or wear a boot. I am in so much pain and can't walk right and it is affecting my back. I am 74 and was crawling for weeks with the broken ankle. They have ruined my life. Prior to the ankle fracture I walked my dog 2 miles a day. In past 6 weeks I walk up in pain, have it all day, afraid of falling due to the way I walk, and they took away my independence and ruined my life. I would take their diagnosis with a grain or salt and go elsewhere so you don't end up like me. Janet Orseno

Yelp
Terrible experience at this hospital on multiple occasions. Rude and insensitive staff members kicked my family out of the hospital for no good reason.

Yelp
This hospital is obviously too small for the demand of this area. We took my mom to the emergency room with severe stomach pains and it took over an hour and a half before she saw a doctor.. they wanted to keep her overnight but had no idea when a room would become available.. they had no gastric doc on staff apparently as the only doc she saw was the er doc.. after 8 hours and no idea of when a room would be available she checked herself out as she felt well enough to do so.. I feel for all the people in the hallway of the er that were waiting for a room. Avoid this place at all costs!!

Yelp
Other than charging $1250 for 7.5cc for a 7.5 mL dripper of Ciprodex that can be had for $20 copay or $293.99 full price which constitutes a 325% markup, my son was provided good care.

Yelp
Best hospital in the world to have a baby at! We live in Illinois and I've had both my child here! The most amazing OB in the world! I've watched my family have their children in the hospitals in Illinois and Community has out shined them in every aspect! The staff is amazing! I had a c section with my first son and he was 8.7lbs and with my second son I told them I wanted to v bac with my son 10.3lbs and that's exactly what I did with the help of the nurses and Dr Lee! Amazing!

Yelp
Don't even recall seeing these doctors while in the hospital. Paid off entire hospital bill but received a letter stating I still owed these doctors separately. Woman on phone when I called to ask was rude and unhelpful. But that's how the American Medical system works. I have no idea who these people are but they can bill you or send your credit down the drain and there is no recourse. Complete BS. Thieves.

Yelp
I went to the Community Hospital ER in Munster, Indiana w/ the stomach flu. The registration clerk neglected to ask if I was employed or if I had insurance. On my way out, I offered to give my insurance card & was told they didn't need it. My friend told me to call b/c something wasn't right. I did. They assumed and indicated in my paperwork that I was a) unemployed & b) uninsured. Their only indicator to make those assumptions: I'm black. They get 2 stars instead of 1 because the bedside care was good.

Yelp
I have been a visitor to the general med/surg floor for 2 separate people. The first visit was for an individual who had already been there for 3 weeks. A fall risk patient who was left UNATTENDED on a commode, which the receptacle fell, causing the patient to lean to try to avoid being splashed by human waste. The patient then fell, and medical personnel attempted to rewrite the incident report to say the patient tried to stand, which was a complete falsehood by them, attempting to cover up the fact that a fall risk patient was left unattended. The second time was to visit a patient who was originally admitted for dehydration. It took 7 hours from the time the patient was given a bed on this floor until fluids were administered after the emergency room. On 4 separate occasions, DURING THE HOUR I WAS THERE, I heard medical personnel tell this patient . . "waiting on orders" for different things that needed to be done, again, after being in the room for 7 hours. Completely understaffed, and grossly mismanaged. Shameful, since this was a hospital that used to be one of the most highly rated in the area. As much as I dislike giving money to Franciscan's - at least they appear to manage their operation in a much better way.

Yelp
my father is on a ventilateur and not responding at munster community hospital for almost 2 weeks fighting for his live. the icu nurse with the first name veronica i believe was sarcastic and rude about being able to see my father for a few minutes sat. afternoon 01/.09./21. our family has been able to visit with him for a few minutes the last couple days but suddenly today this icu nurse cut me off as i spoke and would not allow me to speak. my father needs to wake up from the sedation or he will be terminated on monday. no understanding or compassion by this icu nurse and will be filing a formal complaint with the hospital hr dept.

Yelp
I went there to have some lab work done and that went fine and well. However, when it came time for me to get billed, they never sent me the invoice and sent my bill over to a collection agency. When I spoke to them it turned out that they didn't even have my mailing information in their system correctly. I would not recommend this place to any one. I'm not sure about you, but when it comes to results and billing I would think that they would be careful about double checking their patient's information.

Yelp
So disgusted at the attitude of the young ER doctor there treating my dad for a possible heart attack. After sitting in a room with my dad hooked to a monitor for 3.5 hours, mind you, not even a nurse coming in to ask if he was thirsty or needed the restroom. When we told the doc we thought they forgot about us, he proceeded to say we were not his only patient and we were the least of his worries at the moment. Great job making us feel like my dad was at the right place, not! This was very disheartening to me and my family. Was never so glad to get out of there!

Yelp
I was admitted into the hospital and wasn't released for 4 days. I have to say, every single person that I came into contact with (Admittance personnel, nurses, doctors, aids, house keeping, etc) was pleasant, professional and extremely compassionate. I never thought I would give a review of a hospital but I thought it was needed.

Yelp
Awesome Birth and Delivery Center my wife had all 3of our kids there the last one being this August. Beat staff in the world. Worst Emergency Room ever though doctors rush you through and don't help at all I could have stayed at home and suffered. Also the billing department sucks constantly overcharging me and not sending my insurance the claim first.

Yelp
i coulda shoulda told you all about this wonderful place and the wonderful people working here a long time ago....but if your from *da region* you already know.... from the time my dad was here with heart problems and they sent a car to bring me an my mom....and took such great care of him... he is all good thank you..... or when she slipped on the stairs and blew out her knee....klutz :-) or when i had my tonsils out in high school :-) til now when i had a little bit of a bigger problem than tonsils.... ok so it wasnt life or death....but anytime you go *under the knife* .worries flow....and i was a nervous wreck waiting... everyone here was so friendly and sweet....from the volunteers at the desk...to the nurses that treated me like family... mellissa and deanne calmed my nerves, and told me they would sneak me some food as soon as possible after :-) and dr. tracy was wonderful..... my thanks go out to everyone community offers digital mammography....and same day results on screening and biopsy over 80% of the time... http://tiny.cc/dqgP3 its easy to see why Community Hospital in Munster has been named one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for the 7th year in a row by HealthGrades http://tiny.cc/k7bn4 also affiliated with St. Catherines in East Chicago and St. Marys in Hobart......AND that cool jet helicoptor we all hear flying over...goes back and forth from Community to Loyola Med Center in Chicago they also have cool vending machines :-)
