The Best Restaurants and Bars in Chattanooga, Tennessee | Eater Nashville

"This pizzeria in Miller Plaza is essential as essential gets. Community Pie’s Neapolitan-style pizza is super light with crispy, bubbly edges, as it should be. Set your mouth on fire with the Spicy Bianca topped with fresh mozzarella, ricotta, pecorino Romano, olive oil, garlic, and Calabrian chiles, then put that fire out with a scoop or two of house-made pistachio gelato. You’ll also find a second location in Hamilton Place." - Eater Staff

I'm so happy we found this place! I've had a lot of gluten-free pizzas, but this is the first time I've ever had a gluten-free Detroit style pizza (like a thick pan pizza). Not only was this the best gluten free pizza I've ever had, it was so good my husband (who can eat gluten) even said it was better than any Detroit style pizza he's ever had. So so SOOOOO good!!! Restaurant also has a great atmosphere, and our server was amazing. Extensive drink menu and tons of local beers on tap. Also, they brought out some play dough (pizza dough) for my kids to play with while we waited for our food, and they loved it! Super kid friendly. 10/10 you have to go here!!

Google
We enjoyed our meal here, it was nice to find a place that had a good Detroit style gluten free pizza. I also liked being able to get pizza by the slice to go with a salad. Their wine selections could use some help, but the food was good.

We stopped by during our road trip at night and enjoyed our dinner. Nice place with great pizzas. Our server Griffin was very friendly. We had two Neapolitan pizzas. Sweet Fig and BBQ Chicken. Sweet Fig was our favorite, very unique.

If you are looking for fresh delicious pizza and great service the look no more. Luke our server made our meal enjoyable. We got the spaghetti the New York style Marguerite and meatball pizza. Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh. The restrooms were clean. Parking is kind of a pain. You have to find street parking and pay. They have a bar indoor and outdoor seating 10 out of 10 recommend you will not be disappointed. The food is fresh and delicious, this location has a hipster/artisan vibe about it. I love the open windows by the bar the hanging plants and the chandeliers with the crystals. Everybody was really nice and very casual. The menu was simple yet elevated.. they even have Biggie Smalls on the wallpaper in the bathroom again this location will not disappoint. We didn’t have to wait long to be seated and the service was great. Got our food quick it was hot. It was fresh. The pasta is so fresh and the marinara that it’s actually the color of a tomato kind of an orange not that bright red like you get a can the eggplant Parmesan pasta absolutely delicious. I must try. Best part is you don’t even have to buy a whole pizza. You can buy it by the slice hell yeah

Google
Community Pie is a must-visit spot in Chattanooga if you love great pizza and fun appetizers! I tried the Grown Up Fried Cheese to start, and wow—it’s next level. Crispy on the outside, melty on the inside, and full of flavor. For the main event, I had the Italian Stallion Detroit-style pizza, and it did not disappoint. The crust was perfectly crispy and airy, the toppings were bold and delicious, and the whole vibe of the place was super chill and welcoming. The service was excellent. Definitely adding this to my list of go-to places in the city! Subscribe nikijourneysplan YouTube page to explore beautiful places

Got a large Detroit style. Overall I enjoyed the pizza. I deducted points for lack of pepperonis on a pepperoni pizza. There MIGHThave been 15 on the whole pizza. Also deducted points bc service wasn't very attentive. We sat waiting for refills for a while. Oh also they have a sign out front that said hair hour from 3-6 with some drink specials. I ordered a drink based off that sign then later the waitress comes back to tell me that's only M-F.

Google
The manager Caleb and his serving staff are excellent! They allowed us to have a small baby shower party and were extremely welcoming and made things much more enjoyable. The food is always amazing and I wouldn’t recommend any other pizza place before here!

Google
A Saturday afternoon in the Scenic City was made even more spectacular by the steaming hot, freshly prepared Detroit deep dish Melrose pizza with Italian sausage, peppers, onions, feta, and mozzarella. The ambience exceeded the expectations of a contemporary downtown pizzeria with a coziness that made it welcoming to a small town soul. Fantastic service and speed of requests being fulfilled. Thank you!

Yelp
Community Pie's downtown location is our favorite. The restaurant has a retro vibe given they've retained the structure's original design. The booths are spacious and allow you a private area to enjoy your meal. Our server was quick to come to the table. We ordered waters and spouse had an original margarita and I had a strawberry margarita. They were both excellent, although spouse and I both preferred the strawberry over the original. We always start with the Grown-Up Fried Cheese. Six cheese sticks with hot peppers, capicola and mozzarella, served with a side of marinara. They never disappoint. We ordered the small Detroit style BBQ Chicken, minus red onion. Our server kindly replaced the onion with extra chicken. We also ordered sides of bbq sauce because why not? Great to pour on top of the pizza or dip the crust into when finishing a slice. Our orders came quickly and were hot and delicious. Commmunity Pie is a must if you are a pizza lover. They have so many options. But Detroit style crust will always have our heart. Give it a try! Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Community pie is in a fantastic location. Pizza is the main event. They have a few pasta choices, but it's quite limited. The bar seems to be well stocked. They have an open air set up where you can watch the street activity. We ordered a margarita pizza, with extra fresh basil, which was delicious, and also a custom pie with a blend of provolone and mozzarella with some bacon. The custom pie was a bit overdone, but still tasty. The gelato experience was a bit disappointing and was one of the reasons we visited so that our son could enjoy some. We ordered one scoop of each flavor, but instead of isolating them they combined two scoops into one cup, which blended the flavors and was a bit odd. In addition, the two scoops that were placed on top were about a quarter of a scoop instead of a full scoop. We casually mentioned our disappointment, we don't like to make a fuss about things such as this, we just wish we had spent that $20 differently. Our son had a simple plate of spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti was mushy and quite overcooked, but the meatballs were satisfying. I would recommend the establishment for solid pizza choices, Neapolitan, New York or Detroit style.

Yelp
Like a big Community [pizza] Pie - that's amore! Well, maybe not to dogs, but their pizza is delish! We saw an outdoor covered patio online and hoped they would be dog friendly, but unfortunately not. We ended up having to order takeout, but we were not disappointed. We headed on over to Pax Breu Rum, ordered some draft cocktails and chowed down on our pizza with wild abandon. We ordered a small Detroit Style Little Italy and a Spaghetti with Meatballs to share. It was plenty of carbs, red sauce and flavor to go around. I loved how spicy the Little Italy was. The spaghetti with meatballs was standard - a filler, if you will. While I'm sure it all would have been better dining in, it was a solid takeout order! Definitely recommend, especially for those garlic knots! Next time, I'll definitely need to stop by to dine in, sans pup, with MORE garlic knots, Detroit style pizza, and to try the New York style slices!

Yelp
This place is always busy. The food is excellent and the service was friendly. We got slices and an appetizer. Everything was good and I'm glad I didn't order a whole pie or I would have tried to eat it all. Will definitely be going back

Yelp
Visited the downtown Community Pie on a Wednesday evening and had no wait before being seated. Our server was excellent. Our party of two split a salad and 19" New York pizza and had leftovers to take home. Would visit again!

Yelp
I couldn't recommend this play more. It's is such a cool spot located right in the middle of Chattanooga. They have a wide variety of pizzas, pasta, and salads. They have several vegan options on the pizza. The veg out with vegan cheese is phenomenal. They have the option of neopolitan, New York, and Detroit. I went with the Detroit and I am going back tonight to get the Neapolitan. That's how much I enjoyed it. The service was great and the bar had tons of beers options. Again, I can not recommend enough, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian.

Yelp
Went here with the expectations of simply "enjoying some pizza", nothing more, nothing less. Well, I must say their pizza here stood out as freaking AWESOME! I've never had a pizza (minus while in Chicago), that I not only ate the crust, but almost like it better than the rest of the pizza?! Community Pie really surprised me and I was very thankful for it. Service there was awesome and joint was clean. Their product alone earned a 5star rating, but the rest of the place didn't do anything to take away from that either. Thanks Community Pie!

Yelp
Awesome pizza! I love that they have the option to get Detroit or New York style. We like both but NY is our favorite so we split a 14 inch. Delicious crust and tasty toppings. They also have a very nice beer list with quite a few local options on draft. Looks to be in a up & coming block with some empty spaces for new business to come in around them. Highly recommend

Yelp
Nice place for couples, families, or friends in the Downtown area of Chattanooga. Detroit-style, New York-style, or Neapolitan pizza choices, homemade gelato, full bar, and a generous beer selection. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was chill. Went with the 14' Italian Stallion pizza New York-style, which was plenty for a couple to share. Tried the Prosecco, Rose, local craft lager and IPA. Only suggestion is to pour the beer just a little bit colder. Overall a really solid place.

Yelp
Maybe it is because I have been living in Miami too long but when I find a friendly face at a restaurant I am pleasantly surprised. We stayed in Chattanooga for the night and after all of the horrible traffic outside of Atlanta we just didn't have the energy to go out to dinner. I called and Alex was a friendly voice I really need to hear and even though DoorDash had just cut off delivery she was nice enough to help me out with a takeout order. We ordered the Drunken Pig Deep Dish Pizza. The pizza was good but a bit spicy for our taste. This isn't a reflection on the restaurant, we didn't really read the menu well and kind of can be a wimp when it comes to red pepper flakes. This restaurant is a good reason to come back to Chattanooga again. .

Yelp
Great pizza and really good side salads. Prices are good and nice staff. This last sentence was written to get above the stupid 85 character limit.

Brad C.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst service I ever had. ordered 2 drinks and pizza. Went to restroom and my girlfriend was told we were cutoff. Why? Never received our drinks and had to get order to go. If you want great service and bet pizza go to Goodfellas. I will never step foot in this establishment again.

Yelp
A centrally located space with a lot of seats looking through the window to the nearby square (which they didn't give me one of for some reason that I didn't protest). They offer a variety of pizza styles; I sampled the Detroit, and frankly it was the least "authentic" version of such that I've ever had. It was square, but it had too much cheese and not enough crisping thereof on a somewhat languid crust. Still tasty in an indulgent sort of way, but not the best. It seemed like it needed the dipping sauce on the side. I'd try a different type of pizza if I returned. Otherwise, though, I was happy that they had a variety of small salads and I got some arugula in quickly. They also had house gelato which was kind of hidden and surprisingly they didn't promote it that heavily. It was a nice atmosphere, and a place which seemingly employed half the teenagers of Chattanooga. Even though the pizza wasn't quite as I'd hoped, I liked the rest of the experience enough that I would try again.

Yelp
A year ago we were here two times in 3 days to eat because we enjoyed it so much. Now, we are in the area for a wedding and we had to come back. The Detroit style pizza is as good as ever. If you're looking for a really good pizza place, do not pass this place up. You won't regret coming here and if you don't eat here you'll always wonder what could have been, and that's no way to go through life.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food. Very fresh. Crust was perfect. Ordered in after the first day at MetrothamCon, and the pizza and breadsticks did not disappoint. Sauce is also better than any chain, and most other scratch made places.
google avatar

Yelp
Times like this, I wish we could rate on a half star basis as this pizzeria deserves a 4.5. While it's not Buddy's, they offer a really strong Detroit style pizza, something I like to get from time to time. My preference though are the Neapolitan-style pizza, as they offer some really unique recipies, nothing like their wood-fired pizzas. Service is good, typically I'll sit at the bar having a cold beer, maybe one from the Group's microbrewery Five Wits, waiting for my carry-out pizza. The sandwiches and salads are tasty, as is the gelato. The pasta, just average.
google avatar

Colin B.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal! Service was excellent! Atmosphere was wonderful! I definitely recommend the Greek salad and the House salad!
google avatar

Noah S.

Yelp
Favorite pizza I've had in Chattanooga. I like both the Detroit & NY styles but have lately favored the NY more. We usually get a super hero Detroit & a pepperoni / pineapple NY.
google avatar

Renee V.

Yelp
Mason was an amazing server who made our experience even better. He explained the difference between the styles of pizza and made some recommendations that we really enjoyed. Detroit Style Demarco Pizza was our winning choice. It came out picture perfect and the taste was spectacular. (Many varieties or create your own.) Very comfortable restaurant with full bar. Family friendly and street parking is available. Walkable from most downtown hotels.

Yelp
Best pizza in Chattanooga! Great pizza, draft list, and dessert! I got the Italian stallion 14". Great pizza!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place. Stopped in last night during the summer festival and had about a 15 minute wait for a table for 6. Shocked it was so quick! They have a great selection of pizzas, pastas and other Italian dishes for people not wanting pizza. Pizza they offer in NY or Detroit style. We opted for the smaller sized NY style meatball pizza. Service was excellent and very quick! Prices were great. We also ordered the garlic knots for an app- came with 4 large ones, so this is more than enough for two people. Community pie has a full bar and a great drink selection. They even serve their own gelato. Highly recommend for pizza while in Chattanooga!

Yelp
Walked in on a Friday night around 7pm. No wait and seated immediately. The waiter was great. Offered suggestions on drinks and suggested we try the adult fried cheese. He was right. It was delicious! Served with a homemade marinara sauce. We did New York style pizza, but the Detroit style looked good too. Detroit style is more of a pan pizza. New York style is thin and crispy. They also offer wood fire brick oven options for their Neapolitan pizzas. Everything was good! They were having outdoor concerts, so we opened the windows and listened while we enjoyed dinner. Great place!

Yelp
Our family was looking for a local pizza place while staying in Chattanooga. Lots of places looked good, but for some reason we settled on Community Pie, and we couldn't be happier. We got seated right away at their downtown location, even though there was some live music thing and event happening that night. James, a tall young man with wavy curly hair, was a server, and he was awesome. He made a great beer recommendation (Highland Gaelic Ale), was attentive and super nice. We got a side salad to start, the Caesar salad, and it was pretty blah. Stale croutons, very little dressing and cheese. On to the pizza. We wanted the Neapolitan Pizza, but we're told it's only one size. We opted for the NY style large (19") cheese and half pepperoni. It was good. Perfect blend of sauce and cheese, and maybe slightly over cooked dough, as it was crunchy with a little chew. Pizza, salad and two beers came in under $40, which IMO is a good value at a downtown restaurant. Would recommend skipping the salad, ordering a Detroit or Neapolitan pizza and ask your server for beer recommendations. If your lucky enough James will be waiting on you.

Yelp
I've gone to Community Pie every time I've visited Chattanooga since around 2016-17. They're the best pizza I've ever had, not only in Tennessee, but In the US. The staff is always so informative and friendly. Great beers on a rotating draft. Food: Italian Chopped salad and a slice For two people we like to get the Italian chopped salad and a slice each. Always a great time. Great environment, you can even see the huge pizza ovens
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of my favorite pizza places ever. The Detroit style is my favorite, but I get it without the sauce because the sauce is really spicy. The other pizza are excellent quality as well, but the Detroit style seems to be the main attraction. The service has always been extremely friendly and accommodating. They create a relaxed atmosphere and they always been very attentive.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Lunch after the Hincapie Gran Fondo. Really good pizza. We had the Neapolitan style pizza with spinach artichokes and Gorgonzola cheese and it was really really good. It's hard to get good pizza in the south but this place was definitely solid. Cool atmosphere. Open windows on the patio and a good craft beer selection. Service was great. Definitely go back here when we come up again.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Meh - but in all honesty I should have come for the pizza, my fault. I wanted the Chattanooga beef sandwich but it was 86d so ended w the caprese chicken sandwich. For the price of $12 I would think there might be any side but it came out with nothing, not even silverware. I ordered a side Greek salad but it wasn't the best either.
google avatar

Heather N.

Yelp
The menu selection is diverse, with a delightful blend of flavors that cater to a variety of preferences. We order Little Italy and Drunk Pig. little Italy was spicy, it has a lot of peppers and Drunk Pig had the vodka sauce. The attention to detail in presentation, along with the use of high-quality ingredients, demonstrates the chef's culinary expertise. It's definitely a top recommendation for anyone looking to indulge in a memorable meal. Service was great, the waiter gave us some recommendations and said if we didn't like it he would give us other slices A must try!
google avatar

Kathleen H.

Yelp
Loved this place. The pizza was amazing and safe for someone with a gluten allergy. My waiter suggested Italian style toppings and it didn't disappoint.
google avatar

Devin B.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere and food was delicious. Must try the "Grown Up Fried Cheese" and the "Vodka Pie"!
google avatar

Shawn S.

Yelp
Let's make this easy. Best pizza in East Tennessee. If you like more NY style pizza, this is your new home. Th service was great. Clean table. Fast. But the taste was amazing. Shocked by how good honestly. Give it a try, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I were in town for a Lookouts game and wanted some GOOD pizza. We are pizza snobs and will not eat Domino's, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, etc so we are always looking for delicious pizza. After researching Yelp for suggestions and scouring menus we settled on Community Pie. My husband and I ordered a beer and he also got a shot of whiskey( it was his birthday weekend..lol) and the spicy Bianca (I believe that's what it was called) minus the ricotta and it was SO good! We can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious pizzas!! The service was awesome as well.
google avatar

Wakitra T.

Yelp
I found myself here with a friend on a girls' getaway back in October ... after eating at Community Pie, I am considering relocating to Tennessee! I can't eat gluten which means finding pizza that doesn't taste like cardboard and cost an arm and two kidneys is usually impossible.. enter stage left: COMMUNITY PIE. The crust was golden and buttery and sooooo thick! The toppings were fresh and I haven't had a better marinara in ages! It was PURE PERFECTION. The waitress we had was wonderful- she helped me make decisions about what I wanted to eat and she was super nice! Plus the background music was so pleasant - hits from the 80s and 90s! I didn't wanna leave! If you're in Chattanooga and pizza matters to you- make the time to go to Community Pie! You will take one bite and thank the heavens! Trust me!
google avatar

Cheyenne C.

Yelp
Grabbed lunch here with some friends and really enjoyed it! Staff was friendly and helpful. Drinks were strong. Loved the pizza, and we're coming from NY so that's saying a lot. The large pie was enough for all four of us and everyone enjoyed it. Prices were reasonable as well. The menu was very creative, and I would definitely check it out if it town again!
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get pizza in Chattanooga. I love the Detroit Pizza and I'll drive 3 hours to get it.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
We stopped by Community Pie for dinner as a stop on our way to Gatlinburg. What a gem!! We ordered: * Grown up fried cheese. OMG who created this amazing and dangerous app?! Serving size is 6 "boats" of layered meat, cheese and peppers fried in a open wonton wrapper. * Italian Chopped Salad. I'm pretty sure this is the best Italian salad I've ever had. The creamy Italian was served on the side (YES please) and also made a great crust-dip for the pizza so save the extra dressing. * Melrose NY Style pizza. I've never had this combo on a pizza. First - the crust is perfect. Crunchy and bendy. But The peppers make it special. Not too spicy and every piece had the right amount of topping.
google avatar

Kerstin L.

Yelp
Hands down. THE BEST gluten free pizza I've ever had in my life. You have to try it. HAVE TO!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Got delivery order- excellent pizza, quick delivery. Menu had lots of great sounding items.

Yelp
During our trip to Chattanooga over Thanksgiving, we were in the mood for a quick slice of New York stile pizza so we decided to checkout Community Pie. Here's my take on the experience: Quality of pizza: Good. We got a slice of the cheese and a slice of Demarco. Both were good but the only difference I could tell between the two was that the Demarco had a few cut pieces of basil whereas the cheese didn't. From the description, I was expecting it to be more then just that. Décor: pretty cool. Although we only got a takeout pizza, the walls were brick and the whole place felt like a neat and homey place. Cleanliness: good. The tables were kept clean. Service: good. The cashier was quick at placing the takeout order. It did take them 20 mins to reheat the pizza which seemed a tad bit long Price: cheap. Each slice of pizza was $3.50. If you're in the mood for some good pizza in Chattanooga then checkout Community Pie.

Yelp
Great reviews from others ....me not so much Nice pizza style selection - thin thick neo, - rating is on neo and general service after I gave answer to "how was your meal". Mmmhhh Ordered the Spicy Bianca - nice spice from peppers but pizza was under cooked or oven not hot enough. Not charred on bottom (sign of hot oven) and soggy. Feedback given after they asked and you would think I offended someone - pleasant service at bar turned into cold shoulder. Add that to wrong salad made/delivered and foam pour on 2 16 oz draft beers and I guess it is a roulette wheel of results for your visit.

Yelp
Community pie is my wife, and I's favorite pizza we've had through delivery apps in Chattanooga. My mother-in-law came to help us with our two-month-old. She let us go on a date night. We decided to go to community pie because their pizza had been so good on the delivery apps. We ordered the Detroit-style barbecue chicken pizza. My wife hates onions and spicy food, so we asked for no onions or jalapeños. Our waiter nodded at both of the requests. A bit later, our pizza was dropped off with jalapeños and onions all over the pizza. We spent a few minutes using a fork to remove the jalapeños and onions. Our waiter was nowhere to be seen. We tried to send it back, but no one ever stopped by our table. Our waiter had three other tables send orders back, and he never stopped to ask us about our food. The next time we saw our waiter was when he asked if we wanted our check. He brought us a box and didn't even acknowledge the mountain of onions and jalapeño's sitting on the side of our table. I would not recommend ever eating here. Clearly, their staff isn't concerned about your order.
google avatar

Terri M.

Yelp
I don't recommend you come on a Friday night because they block streets off and good luck finding parking. So we had to park about 1/2 away and walk. They were setting up booths down a few blocks around. We got New York style Margherita pizza in Large. Was perfect for folding in half, pretty tasty. Cost was $21.85

Danny B.

Yelp
Food and service were great!! Garlic knots was plenty for an app and the New York style pizza was spot on. More than a handful of beverage's to choose from never hurts. Would recommend for sure!!
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
Pizza was very good. Nice beer and liquor selection. Service was a bit slow, but not terrible. Pizzas come in your choice of Detroit, NewYork, or Neapolitan style. Unfortunately, one pizza was ordered without pepper flakes, but came with them anyway and had to be redone. It was redone without a problem, but meant the group was not able to dine all at the same time. No discount was given for the inconvenience.

Mackenzie S.

Yelp
The garlic knots were DELICIOUS! We also enjoyed that we could split a pizza and each have our own toppings on half. The pizza was amazing.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
The pizza was top notch and the service was good however there was a monster wait. The kids spaghetti was atrocious. We order it for our daughter and it was noodles in a watery bowl with a little sauce. She ate one bite and that was it, which I can't really blame her. Would definitely eat here again just probably not with kids.
google avatar

Yelp
Busy little pizza place downtown. Had great service...Wait staff checked on us frequently but never made us feel hurried. Really enjoyed the fresh Caesar Salad, Melrose, and Spicy Bianca. Good beer selection. Would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Community pie has a great lunch special. They also have a huge variety of beers on draft. The service was great too. The indoor outdoor vibe is amazing on a nice day.

Yelp
Great pie and good beer! We have been coming here for years and truly enjoy the atmosphere.

Yelp
Great NY style pizza!! The pizzas are super large- we ordered 3 for a group of 7+ and had plenty leftover.
