The Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings, Spring 2018 | Eater Twin Cities

"Taking over the restaurant inside the historic Como Lake Pavillion, Matty O’Reilly and chef JD Fratzke plan a family-friendlier, park-oriented spot that de-emphasizes the prominent bar, will operate daily during the warmer months (11am–9pm) with weekend-only brunch in colder seasons, and builds on their success with nearby concepts like Delicata, Bar Brigade and the seasonal Red River Kitchen." - Joy Summers

Google
Nice place for walking, running or cycling. Go to know there are restrooms in the pavilion

The water wasn't flowing over the falls. The flowers and grounds around them weren't very well kept like I remember them.

Google
The location is very nice and elements of the building are very neat too. Overall I left feeling more care towards the food quality and some updates to the restrooms are in order. For example the tortilla chips for the chips and salsa were stale. The pricing is a bit high for essentially a bar menu with a cafeteria style set up. The beer menu I expected after reading the website to be all or mostly local beers (not the case). In addition you place your orders and bus you own table which are crowded if seating more than 2 people. I'm glad I went but don't think I'd go again anytime soon. I'd rather pay more fore better quality food, service, some setting adjustments (some larger tables) a local breweries menu, and facility improvements (particularly the restrooms).

Great venue for outdoor entertainment and picnics. Nice walking path around the breezy lake. Indoor clean restrooms, upscale indoor food counter with hot and cold items prepared fresh. Outdoor and indoor seating. See event website for daily and annual special activities and entertainment schedule.

Google
Great spot, resurant has some peculiar foods. But the pavilion is great and you see All kinds of people. The benches need a little bit of work done

Sandy W.

Google
Love the pavilion! Free surface lot parking on two sides of the pavilion ... recommend arriving early to ensure you get a space. Otherwise, free parking along the sloping roads going throughout the park.

Google
Beautiful easy walk. See the waterfall & towering trees, light-up swan paddle boats at night, a local blue heron; Take the bridge to the Zen garden; Watch free music at 7; Attend Rosetown Playhouse's outstanding performances; Fish off the two docs; Watch incredible sunsets from the peninsula across the lake.

Google
Great place for a picnic on a lovely fall day. Beer and wine along with food in the pavilion if you want it. Nice walking path around the lake.

Yelp
Beef barley soup was a bit on the salty side but the cheeseburger with pepper Jack cheese was execellent!!

Yelp
This place is terrible. Which is heartbreaking. I live in the neighborhood and want this place to succeed. The food is worse than mediocre and WAY too expensive, especially for the quality. I've had concession nachos better than theirs. Too bad the food doesn't reflect the beautiful venue.

Yelp
Coffee and croissant pastry (highly recommend) are great taste and great price. We came to the como regional park to check the cherry tree blooming and stopped by this restaurant. Staff is very friendly. The place is spacious/clean/cozy. And it has two stories with beautiful windows and chandeliers. On a weekend, when you like to take a walk in the park, this place is good to stop by to grab something to eat or just relax and eat on the patio to enjoy the beautiful lake view. I feel like this place is under rated/recognized. The hours printed on the window indicated open at 11am, however they opened earlier with drink and pastry. After 11, they start to serve lunch.

Yelp
Lovely, open space perfect for meeting with friends to collaborate as we did today. Matcha latte is the only thing I order at cafes. No matcha latte on the menu, so I was about to settle for a hot chocolate. On a whim, I asked if a matcha latte was possible. The lovely barista shared that they were trained to make matcha lattes and made me a lovely cup to enjoy. So happy!

Yelp
The food was nothing to speak of. The service so so but the view of the lake como was just amazing . 5 stars to th wheaten is going for allowing overly fur baby on the patio

Yelp
Nice little restaurant located right on Lake Como in St. Paul. The restaurant/bar area is fine. They have a pretty good craft beer list and a good food menu, but the main attraction is being located right on the Lake and being attached to a big concert bandshell. It's ideal for grabbing something to eat/drink and sit and enjoy the views of the lake and surrounding park, which is what we did. I'm sure it'd be great for listening to music there as well, none were playing when we went, but it's just as nice enjoying a nice day. If I lived there I'm sure I'd frequent it quite a bit and take friends there. I'm glad I got to see it.

Yelp
They were out of a lot of menu items but I was able to pivot and I got the chicken nachos. Delish! I love this place for the ambiance - right on the water, great outdoor space, upstairs seating and ample parking.

Yelp
Beautiful views of the lake and a great shaded gathering spot to meet friends and even large groups. Happened to be there on a day where there was a performance of barbershop quartets, which we really enjoyed. The food is okay, which is why I didn't rate it higher. I tried the Caribbean Cuban which had a small slice of pork and a very small amount of pickled farmstand veggies. I've also had the fish tacos before, which lack flavor. Great space to enjoy a nice day, though keep expectations in check for the food.

Yelp
Pricey and the beer are cheaper during Happy Hour. Lively setting inside and the Como Lake outside on the patio.

Yelp
Located right on lake como this is the perfect spot to stop for coffee and a treat! The parking was easy and the area is just so beautiful. The food was yummy and quick.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've been around these parts, it was nice to pit stop here and get some grub. I know usually they have live music and such which is great in the summer. The indoor space is huge and also a great option for dining in if you don't want to sit outside, but it's patio season so we're enjoying every minute of the outdoor dining. They were out of a few things we wanted to order which was a bummer so I opted for the chicken nachos and they were actually very good!

Yelp
The aggressive nature of the cashiers in soliciting tips for themselves was a turn off. "We encourage you strongly to tip" and then leaning over to watch the screen as you complete payment. There's no table service and you bus your own table. I was there with a friend in a different line and they got the same treatment. The building is beautiful and the food was as fairly good.

Yelp
There was ample seating upstairs and downstairs. There was a wedding going on so it was hard to not take a furtive glance at all the amusement while sipping on wine and having a burger with fries.

Yelp
Food - neutral Service - poor Ambiance - okay Unable to try the food because the kitchen closed at 7:40 p.m. without notice. D&P's website states that the kitchen closes at 8:30 p.m. My partner and I tried ordering food at 7:40 p.m. Both of us were dismissed without apology for ordering before the advertised close time. The person at the register was not professional - they were abrupt from the get-go, and when we asked for food service they shut us down quickly with "kitchen's closed." Suggestions for management: a) hire staff that are people-friendly b) put "kitchen is closed" instead of having the full menu on your menu screens c) announce a last call for the kitchen closing, whether or not it is before the advertised time We will not spend our money at this restaurant again.

Yelp
I ordered the fish & chips this evening, for $16. That was a disappointment. There were three small, about 3 inch, pieces of fish each just slightly bigger than my finger. They were not battered but appeared to be breaded, and their dark color suggested that they left in the fryer too long. The chips were about 10 small wedge cut potato pieces. It all came with a small portion of tartar, and a pack of ketchup. Not very tasty, and definitely not worth $16. After the fish & chips I was still hungry. I had to be at the location for a community band performance, so I ordered the Cobb salad ($13). It was better than the fish and chips. The next time we visit Como Park I'll be bringing my own food. I can cook a lot better than those kids at Dock and Paddle.

Yelp
Waited 45 minutes for my order. I ordered fries, and when the food came out the fries were all gone. I was offered cheese curds, and a refund would have been better. Additionally, this woman with yellow hair was extremely RUDE at the register. I e never experienced such horrible customer service. Thankfully the other staff were wonderful. And it only takes one to leave a bad taste. I would recommend if these items could be improved. However, the burger was terrible.

Yelp
So cute here! A new lakeside fav. Great menu and ambience. Sit lakefront and watch the water sports or sit behind the pavilion to enjoy the park/ water features

Yelp
Location is Five Star -on the outdoor patio, overlooking Lake Como. People watching galore! The food is so-so. Drinks are kinda pricey but beer good selection. But come here for a safe, outdoor afternoon libation on the beautiful outdoor pavilion!

Yelp
Feeling not as generous with this one. Maybe it's because it was the first NACH AVERAGE MONDAY since the pandemic shut down the world. I had high expectations from the description of these. However, with lackluster chips that were too thick, and not much bang for your buck, I have to give it 3 stars Good things: pickled red onions!! Chicken was delish. Seasoned perfectly. Meh: chips felt either stale or too thick for this application. Lots of bare chips and having to spread around the toppings. Smaller size than what I'd hope for, paying $5.50/person. That said, I would like to try more here. I think if you just want a quick bite on the lake these nachos will do the trick. Don't make the drive out just for them though

Yelp
Probably the worst fish and chips we've ever had... three small pieces that were mostly breading with small chunks of fish inside. The fries were bland and a little soggy. $18 plus tip is insane for what we got. The nachos were decent though, and more regularly priced (still $12 without any meat). The menu is also a lot smaller than what their website shows.
google avatar

Avery M.

Yelp
Fish tacos and beyond burger are both fairly bland despite being overpriced! The lakeside atmosphere is the best part of this restaurant. Food is lacking flavor and dimension and is very expensive for what you get. The service is lovely though. ALSO the gin and tonic didn't come with a lime?? What?? A lime is essential!!

Judie R.

Yelp
A friend and I went to Dock and Paddle on a Friday for lunch. They have very limited menu offerings and are only open on the weekends (Friday through Sunday). We were the only people there. I ordered the fish tacos and asked for no onions. So...they came on a tasteless bed of cabbage with a side of what might be pico de gallo but was almost all onions with a tiny trace of tomatoes. Pretty colorless and tasteless. If I had ordered the tacos with onions it would have been overwhelming! What happened to cilantro or tomatoes? The tortilla chips were greasy and tasteless too. My friend ordered the kids' chicken and potato chips - pretty nondescript. I've been to Dock and Paddle in the summer and the food was much better. So my advice is to wait until the lake thaws - maybe the food will be better!

Yelp
This is a great place to relax at the pavilion at Como lake. The have food and pub/regular beers. They outdoor seating is picnic tables with a lot of room for distancing. There happy hour beer prices are reasonable but non happy hour are expensive. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. Plenty of free parking Friendly staff.

Brian F.

Yelp
Weather was great, they took the time to show us how to handle the boats. It was a blast. Grab a bite next door for complete evening.

Yelp
HIGHLY recommend the fish & chips! The staff are so nice, the view is great and the atmosphere is laid back and relaxing. A great spot to stop while you make your way around the lake on a relaxing walk.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Kid friendly, good food and very convenient. Much more efficient than a certain Minneapolis park seafood spot.

Josiah A.

Yelp
Great views, great performances, great beer selection... not great food. The food really hits under pr compared to everything else.

Janice R.

Yelp
Went with friends to enjoy the weather and view of the lake. We had the fish tacos. All agreed just so-so. Would have greatly helped if there had been some condiments to help spice them up-guacamole, salsa, etc...They were cooked nicely. The wine was overpriced and a small pour. Love the location and the pavilion is great. Wish they tweaked the food up a notch and it would be perfect.

Helen K.

Yelp
I would highly recommend this place especially if you are looking for an outside setting in the conditions we are in for COVID-19. The restaurant patio overlooks the lake and there is plenty of space for distancing. The staff and management were great in helping me plan a last minute family event after the passing of my father. I was hesitant to do any family gathering but this place was perfect, food was great, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. They do require masks inside the restaurant which was fine for us. Thank you again D&P!
