Farm Hotels Are Rising Up

"A writer/farmer and his wife have turned a working family farm (still growing olives, quince, oranges, figs, and more) into Companhia das Culturas, a nine-room, four-apartment agritourism escape that is tied intimately to the land." - Mark Fedeli

Our stay here was so unique and special. First of all, the space is impeccably designed; the hotel is rural and not fussy but every corner is inviting and cozy. We felt like we could relax and fully exhale. I loved that you could hear the sounds of the bugs at night and the chickens in the morning. Each morning we greeted the day in their amazing yoga room followed by a hyper local and delicious breakfast. During the day, we explored the region then spent our afternoons by the pool and evenings reading in the cozy shared living room. This hotel felt like home for four nights and was the perfect getaway we needed. Also, book the hammam. It’s extraordinary. I will say, if you’re used to more classic hotel/resort experiences with reception always available at your beck and call then this hotel might not be for you. It’s a relaxed environment that is very well maintained but feels more like a private rental or Airbnb than a resort. This vibe was perfect for us, but might not be for everyone. Lastly, the staff was so kind and accommodating and they worked hard to make our stay the best it could be. We are so grateful for this experience and can’t wait to return in the future and bring our family.

A quiet oasis in a great area of the Algarve. We loved the common spaces -- the library, dining area, open pool space (with shade for those full-sun afternoons), and especially the cork room for doing yoga in the early morning as the sun rises. The generous, fresh breakfasts on offer were a real highlight for us. Melissa and Betty were terrific hosts. The location is ideal for touring nearby beaches, restaurants, and historical spots.

Companhia das Culturas is a very beautiful and special place. In spring there is already a very good weather, also for holidays on the beach, but there are not to many people and it's possible to really enjoy the nature and lovely redesigned farm. The team is very nice and helpful. The rooms are big and very cosy. The breakfast is delicious and made of local ingredients. I recommend also to take some treatments in the private hamam by the therapist, which is really very good. Those who like fish and seafood will feel like in heaven. In the area there are lot of nice restaurants. Companhia das Culturas is definitely a place where we would like to come back.

We stayed 4 nights at this beautiful, peaceful place. The room was comfortable and clean, although a little tight. (Room 2, with 2 levels). |Breakfast was delicious, fresh variations each day, with seasonal home made ingredients.|I would suggest a car would make it easier to explore the area. |There are towels provided for beach/pool, also beach shades and umbrellas.|Overall lovely explerience.

Loved this place! Everything about it is so unique and is a true state of the art. Keep in mind, it is not a typical tourist hotel, it was an old farm remodeled into stylish, eco hotel, which makes it super unique and personal. I was feeling super relaxed and the atmosphere is nice and calm, like you are visiting someone home. Breakfast was based on local produce and season. So much love in every plate. Don’t miss out the yoga session and hamam! True highlight!

We spent a few days here in July and felt extraordinarily well. The course is embedded in a quiet nature reserve. The rooms of this former farmhouse are discreet, minimalist and extremely tastefully furnished with a crossover of modern furniture finds and design classics. A great breakfast with fresh juices, lots of herbs and delicious and healthy ingredients, taken on the terrace overlooking a vast landscape, lets every day start perfectly. A small pool with deckchairs and shady seats is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Everything is quiet and discreet, the staff friendly and attentive. Our special thanks go to Elisabete and Ash. We can recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a quiet, unexcited and beautiful place to relax.

My recent visit left me somewhat dissatisfied, primarily driven by a series of unfortunate experiences that revolved around poor communication, disorganized staff, and incorrect food service. From the moment we booked the spa, it was evident that communication was an issue with a lack of clarity around dates, times and the itinerary for the day. Even after seemingly resolving the booking confusion, the staff failed to communicate the spa's services and offerings effectively. I was left in the dark about what to expect from my treatment, and the lack of information made me uneasy. Disorganization was another problem. The staff werent around, and when we wanted to speak to the manager we werent able to for 2 to 3 hours because they were having a driving lesson. When we did finally speak to the manager they disregarded the issues. We had booked the hammam, massage and yoga package. The massage was AMAZING, a fantasic masseuse (although the table was very creaky), and the yoga teacher was excellent. However, the Hammam booking was poorly communicated and when we tried to use it, it was being cleaned so were unable to do so. To top it off, the spa botched the food order. We had requested a specific meal to be served after our treatments (via email, due to dietary requirements), but they hadnt done it. It was as if the order had been entirely disregarded. This only added to the growing list of disappointments during the spa day. This was unfortunate as the food we did have was delicious. In the end, the experience at was marred by poor communication, disorganized staff, and a food service that missed the mark. It's disheartening to see such a promising establishment fail to meet basic customer service expectations.

It's a very special place, with great taste and attention to detail. Staff very friendly, breakfasts to die for (everything is locally produced) and a beautiful hammam that is perfect to unwind. Very confortable rooms and beds wth amazing original vintage lamps and other pieces.
