This café offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with plenty of space to relax or work. The coffee is exceptional—easily among the best in the area. The staff are not only friendly but also knowledgeable, adding to the overall quality of the experience. With a wide variety of options to choose from, it’s a spot I highly recommend for any coffee enthusiast.

Google
Airy cafe that's suitable to meet people, chat, and work. They have outlets and free Wi-Fi. Iced latte was good. The hibiscus sunrise which had lemonade in it is very refreshing and the iced mint matcha latte tastes like a mint shake which also tasted good. The only comment I have is that the seats, tables and bathroom need a good cleaning. There are crumbs and hair everywhere.

Madeline Wan

Google
This compass coffee location always have great seats/ I love the latte, always nice and if you like to add cinnamon, it is available. Tried the banana and lemon pound cake. They were perfect with the hot latte and ice mocha. Great dipping snack! The location always have some small, cute arts decor. I saw some hand drawn portraits of the staff. They were little magnets and customers could guess who they are. It would be wonderful if those become MERCH!

Google
Very good latte. Almond croissant was okay; it tasted mass produced rather than fresh baked.

Google
This place gives me a vibe like, if my asian mom told me to be a blue color worker instead of a doctor. Had a gingerbread cold that perfect sweeten with good amount of ice. This place is definitely a place where you can go on a date and have a semi private convo. If you like coffee and chat this is the place.

Google
It has been a while since I last visited this location, but I can always rely on their flavorful and robust coffee, which makes it consistently perfect. The excellent service and the place's always well-maintained and tidy make it an ideal location to relax, sip coffee, or watch the surroundings through its window while I enjoy my coffee.

Google
The place is quite cozy for a group of friends to come chat and drink coffee or just come by yourself to work or study. The coffee tastes good. The staff were knowledgeable about their drinks and was able to make recommendations for less sugary drink. The whole vibe of the place is pretty upbeat. I can't remember if it were playing any music. I'd add some music personally but also understand the quietness is good. I do recommend this place over any Starbucks.

Google
Awesome coffee shop. Service was excellent. Drinks came out fast and tasted great. Nice atmosphere to do work, have a conversation, or just being on your own.

Yelp
This is a great little coffee shop. I really like their blends. It's not the standard burnt Starbucks type roast...they offer more varied beans, and it's a more sophisticated type of flavor. I bought a bag of fresh beans there, and really love what I brought home. This place is excellent for someone who really understands their coffee, and cares. Service is knowledgeable and caring.

Yelp
I wish there were more Compass Coffee locations near me! I've been to the Fairfax location several times now, and haven't been disappointed. I've visited this location several times during the holidays and have enjoyed drinks such as a gingerbread latte and a peppermint mocha latte. My order has always come out perfect. And the best part is that Compass doesn't charge for alternative milks, either! The dining area here is fairly large. I just love the huge open space, it's warm and inviting. On a few occasions, maybe literally a bit too warm -- they had to open the door to make it not feel too hot inside. Plenty of parking nearby. Look forward to coming back for more coffee!

Yelp
Go-to place for locally roasted coffee in the DC area. The place always seems to be packed on the weekends and parking is hard because of Andy's pizza right next door. Love their cherry blossom cold brew in the spring season! Hope they open a new location in Loudoun County!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious drinks! Loved their seasonal menu options. Such creative options. Ordered ahead in the app and they made it so fast. Plenty of seating inside really clean and fun atmosphere

Yelp
For a strong cup of coffee, I like to stop by this location in Fairfax, VA on my way to the GMU campus. Have been coming here for a year. Lots of pluses. First, the interior is open and filled with natural light. Second, the baristas are really nice - though I have started to use their mobile order-ahead feature. Third, it has 4 short-term parking spots (10 minutes for grab-n-go pickups) - which are shared with Andy's Pizza next door. Fourth, dogs are welcome outside the cafe. Overall, I enjoy stopping by here for coffee. Although it is a bit more expensive for drip coffee than your local Starbucks, in my opinion, it's worth the higher quality taste and buzz.

Yelp
Checked out Compass Coffee the other day. The ambience is trendy with sleek decor, friendly staff and the coffee is pretty good, but the prices are a little high for what you get. Still worth a try if you're in the neighborhood and want a decent cup of coffee.
google avatar

Jacob T.

Yelp
We placed a pick up order, so can't say much about the service, but the coffee was good and they had fun flavors. I was glad to see they didn't charge for getting different milks. Large and clean seating area/ambiance.

Yelp
Great place to sip and your latte and plan your future. Cozy ambiance served stataight up. Friendly barristas on the walkup counter that take your order and prep it as you wait.

Yelp
I came here right after work to try out Compass Coffee. I recently saw them at the DC Coffee Festival but never had a chance to try out an actual store location until now. They had their Cherry Blossom Cold Brew and that was enough to entice me to try it out. Upon walking in, there are a lot of tables that were occupied by GMU students. It's a popular place I won't deny that. Walls filled with coffee beans and merch that I think adds more of that chill, relaxed, cafe vibe that people like when staying to do their work, etc.. The Cherry Blossom Cold Brew is an interesting taste. Coffee is really smooth and definitely not too bold enough for you to grab their nearest sugar. The syrup they used adds that flavor gives it a semi sweet taste but enough so you don't feel like you are drinking a candy bar. I wasn't really here for long but I will note that the prices here are a bit high.. I think I paid like 7 bucks for the drink but oh well. It's a seasonal drink but then again I'm also in the city of Fairfax. I would come back for more. They also have a rewards system that'll keep you motivated to venture out of your way for their coffee.

Yelp
Ordered a cappuccino and a medium gingerbread latte. I thought $14 was a lot but didn't think too much of it until the cappuccino came out and it was in an XL cup(!). First sign of weird since cappuccinos are served in small servings. Anyways as I picked up the cup noticed blobby froth and no art work =( Drink had no style, taste, and it was way too big. Next my gingerbread latte. Same blobby no art froth. Taste was okay -ginger flavor present but not overwhelming and espresso flavor was a little weak. Overall a watery and flat tasting drink. Service was okay but drinks were disappointing. I usually like my neighborhood coffee place but today it wasn't par.

Yelp
Food - 4 service - 5 ambiance -5 Decent caramel macchiato 2% milk light ice. I would get it again. The place has a lot of seating and is cute inside. Pretty crowded but the service was fast. Parking is right outside.

Yelp
Glad to have finally tried Compass! After hearing both good and bad reviews from friends and strangers, I wanted to check out compass personally. I got to say, their location in Fairfax is probably the best ever. It's super chill, clean, and vibes all around. I got my usual ( iced latte w/ vanilla) w/ oatmilk and wow, the first time round it was so good! I paired it with their merchandised, vegan banana + dark chocolate protein snack! What a good duo! Although it was memorable my first time, consistency is something that wasn't up to par. The second visit was rather underwhelming since the latter had way too much milk. Will def come back when in the city though!
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
Definitely expensive coffee, but loved the vibe of this location! The seating is pretty plentiful and nice to sit and do work/ read at for a little bit. Lots of windows and natural light too.
google avatar

Jessie C.

Yelp
This place has amazing service, ability to pay with Apple Pay, and the inside was so cute with ample seating. The noise level is loud so I wouldn't wfh here and it gets packed. I really wished I can put this higher. But my food/drink was very mid. I got a pumpkin spice ice latte with oatmilk ($7). They don't charge extra for milk alternatives which is a HUGE plus. However, my latte was not the best. It was really condensed? Not sure what the word is but the barista whoever made my drink did not put the correct amount of syrup. Felt like I was drinking the actual syrup bottle. Besides that, they're somewhat like Starbucks and have frozen breakfast sandwiches they heat up and they don't really give condiments. I felt bad for my friend who ordered one saying the bread was cold and wanted ketchup/hot sauce. Love the concept of this place but I don't think the food/drink was up to standard.

Yelp
Have not been through the City of Fairfax in a loooonnnnnggg time! I grew up the City of Fairfax - specifically my pre-High School and High School years. A lot has changed in the City in terms of buildings being torn down - and new buildings going up - and that includes Compass Coffee. The business and the building did not exist back then when I used to live in the area. I checked them out today - my brain cells needed some Cold Brew - I note they offer a Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew - so I tried that - it's very tasty - and color-wise - it's very "orangey!" There is a ton of seating here inside - and some seating outside. Service was good - paid with Apple Pay. #CompassCoffee

Yelp
Their coffee is good and the ambiance of this place is immaculate. I will say I think their prices are a bit much but overall you know that you're getting a great coffee every time and they have interesting flavors. I also like their breakfast sandwiches. The service here is great and they always make your order right.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a really nice coffe shop! I had a sausage, egg & cheese breakfast sandwich and Iced vanilla late. Service was really nice, polite and surprisingly quick. The cool thing, you can watch them make your coffee drink because they're making it directly in front of you. This place was busy! And the guy was patient and described a few things on the menu. I wanted to give 5 stars, but.... The only two negatives, was the bread on the breakfast sandwich was tough and difficult to bite through. Like after you microwave bread or pizza for too long, it can change the texture tremendously making it chewy and tough. My sandwich kept falling apart after I bit into it several times because the bread was tough like beef jerky. The sausage patty was cooked, but not browned, flavor was sorta bland. In my opinion, the sausage egge and cheese from Starbucks is way better. -1 Star Also, they desparately need to deep clean the floors alongside the windows. Very yucky to see remnants of old food, crumbs and spilled stuff while dining. - 1 Star Other than that, very nice vibes, well lit, open and inviting atmosphere.

Yelp
Surprised to see how busy it was at 1:30pm. The place was clean and bigger than I thought. The staff was nice and assertive to the orders that were being made. Love their seasonal cherry blossom latte. The banana nut pound cake was was nice and soft. Will def go back and try their other drinks!

Yelp
Prices higher than all the nearby coffee shops, even for Fairfax area, and their coffee consistently was meh, not great, not memorable. Tried twice and have no desire to return. Weird specials: lavender or cherry blossom etc, funky offerings

Nick N.

Yelp
The coffee is really what you come here for. The lack of cleanliness is incredibly disappointing! I've been hanging out, reading a book, and enjoying my latte for over an hour. It has not been overly busy (nobody waiting in line), but not once has anyone working here come through and wiped down empty tables nor has anyone swept. It would be understandable if this was morning rush, but this is the down time between morning rush and mid-day lunch. Smh! The photos included are of three separate places in the store.

Yelp
They offered a 20% discount on the first order, then refused to accept it and they screwed up my order. Very unimpressed.

Yelp
This was a great place to grab some coffee, and although it was busy and lively, we were able to find a table for the three of us. I had seen ads for the cherry blossom latte and really wanted to try it. I ordered both the cherry blossom latte and the lavender latte (seasonal items) with a sub of oat milk and both were fantastic. You can adjust the sweetness level in your drink too. I opted for a quarter of the sweetness and it was just right. I honestly can't imagine the drink being any sweeter. I appreciated the staff letting me know that the default drink was very sweet. Both drinks were so good!! I don't know if this location is always busy (might be because it was cold and rainy outside), but I was in awe of those on their laptops studying and reading books. I don't think I'd be able to concentrate! I'd love to come back and try some of the other seasonal drinks.
google avatar

Staci S.

Yelp
Great location! Good parking, decent seating for studying, tasty products, and great service! I came here in the afternoon with some friends. It looked like all of their drinks had coffee, but it was a little too late in the day for me to have caffeine. Thankfully, an employee let me know that I could try the Tumeric Honey Latte without coffee. All the taste with no caffeine! This tasted nice and refreshing to me. The ambiance was nice too with a light and open space. Bonus points for having a rewards system!

Yelp
Compass has a wonderful ambience! When you walk in, you can instantly feel alert with the coffee smells!! Located near the Amazon Fresh off of Fairfax Blvd, it has plentiful parking and good seats for mingling, catching up with a friend, or getting work done. I went for Saturday AM coffee, and of course I had to try their Cherry Blossom Cream (Cold Brew)! It was so beautiful, but a medium size was too much! A small size would've been more than enough. I didn't like the flavor very much and I wished there was more coffee flavor. I'll have to come back to try something different that isn't seasonal. It was a long wait but I loved how the workers didn't cap your drinks or give you a straw! They give you an option which wonderful for sustainability!!!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
I find that the Compass Coffee locations in D.C are far more superior than this location in Fairfax. I visited on two occasions and ordered the Lavender and Cherry Blossom lattes (both seasonal menu items) and they were not good. Too overly sweet even when I requested it to be less sweet and I could hardly taste any coffee flavors. I kind of gave up on Compass Coffee unless I'm in the city!
google avatar

Chi L.

Yelp
Absolutely love Compass Coffee, amazing employees here that are always friendly and welcoming. The vibe of this spot is very chill and a friendly spot to hangout and work at. Tons of outlet to keep your laptop running. Bright, warm and inviting atmosphere. My favorite drink here is the Almond Butter Latte. I love the milky, creaminess, buttery from the latte that doesn't overpower the delicious coffee taste. Compliments it so well.
google avatar

Jae P.

Yelp
Delicious drinks and a ton of seating is available at Fairfax's Compass Coffee. The latte and cherry latte were both delicious and not overwhelming in flavor. It takes a bit of time for drinks to come out but it is because the baristas take a lot of time to make each individual drink. The menu on the TV screen was a bit hard to see as the monitor kept shutting off or not transitioning between screens fast enough. I wish there was a non-digital menu for people to look over in addition to the TV screens which could be used to show the visual menus.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in fairfax. The layout is open and spacious. Enough window lighting for everyone to enjoy. There's also a variety of seats for those who want a cushioned chair, sturdier dining chairs, or booths. I come here to bring my friends but I also bring my work here as it is the perfect ambiance. Compass coffee's iced lattes and cold brews are my favorite orders off the menu. They serve you the drink in an open cup, giving you the option to add a lid and/or straw (for those that like to be mindful about single-use plastic). I have also brought my reusable tumblers to order hot or iced drinks as well. The pricing is not bad at all and on top of that, they have a point system. Every time I order, points get added to my account just by plugging in my phone number. In my opinion, their point system is pretty generous as it doesn't take too long to rack up points for a free pastry or free drink. The baristas have given a warm and welcoming vibe 100% of the time.

Yelp
A great new addition to the neighborhood! There is ample space inside the coffee shop for people to do work. Coffee compass always has great coffee, lattes, flavored drinks, baked goods, etc! My usual go-to is usually their latte, which is delicious! Baked goods that are always a favorite - morning glory muffin and scones! I also recommend their breakfast sandwiches! So happy to have compass in the neighborhood!

Yelp
What's not to like about Compass Coffee. Great place off of Route 50. Big tasty pastries and excellent coffees! Staff is knowledgeable and friendly,....different attitude, the right one, that you don't see at Starbucks.

Yelp
Came here a number of times thanks to promos. It's located off of Fairfax blvd near the Amazon Fresh so it is a fairly new location. There is a good amount of parking nearby. What I like about this coffee shop is how open and spacious it feels with the large window. There are lots of seating and of course free wifi. So it is an excellent spot to work out of. There also isn't booming music so you can actually work. On the weekdays it does get packed. As for the food, I have tried: -Americano - they fill the cup to the brim...but it's not anything special in terms of their roast -biscotti - first time trying freshly made biscotti and it definitely makes a difference! Pretty light in flavor, not too sweet -blueberry muffin - they offered to heat it up for me, it tasted nice and moist and enough blueberries, just a little too sweet -blueberry scone - this is just way too sweet, the glaze on top is really not necessary, would recommend removing it -lemon cake - again a little too sweet, but the lemon flavor does come through nicely -banana cake - this was probably my favorite of them all, not too sweet, moist, and the banana fragrance comes through -cherry blossom cold brew - my friend tried this and they thought it was ok, how pink the drink turned out is a little off-putting...also they put a lot of ice so you will want to tell them put less ice if you order this -chai tea latte - served at just the right temperature and sweetness level...but it has a weird aftertaste like microwaved saran wrap... -Coconut Cold Brew - served with just the right amount of sweetness, but with a lot of ice. Ok but not really worth it for the price of $6.20 for a medium I think the prices are a little high even for the area, and the drink sizes are really small. Their medium size is a small size in other places. They have some seasonal items. I wish they kept the constant menu up with size offerings along with their prices. Some employees have been really friendly especially the ones taking the orders. But some have been pretty curt. Overall: come for the vibes or a good study/work spot and some light snack. Don't come here if you are a true coffee enthusiast

Yelp
Nice place . I stopped by to take a quick break from door-dashing . I never tried this place before seeing this is the closest location to me. It was a sunny day when I stopped by . There were multiple people outside so that was a good sign . Since it was my first time to compass coffee I wasn't quite sure on what to get . At coffee places I usefully get an ice chai , but I wanted to change it up . I let the cashier decide for me . The Cashier decided on the " cherry blossom cold brew " which they had some of the cherry blossom syrup left . It was ok but I wouldn't get it again . The service was quick and nothing to complain about . The ambiance of the place was nice an ally of space . I seen that a few people were working on there laptops. Whew I go back I will try something different.

Yelp
I got the lavender honey latte. It was pretty good, I didn't taste a strong lavender flavor but according to my friend they were able to taste it. Maybe it's because I am used to getting florally drinks? Nonetheless a good drink! We also tried a lemon loaf and coffee cake! I highly recommend getting one of these because it complimented the coffee very well! The lemon load was very moist and dense while the icing had a stronger lemon flavor. The coffee cake had a really good topping on it but it was slightly crumbly and a bit messy to eat. The service here is really nice! I wouldn't recommend this place for big groups. Most of their tables are small circles so it is a bit hard to study together on a small table. I would try this place out to maybe catch up with friends though!

Yelp
TL;DR: Great addition to the coffee scene in NOVA. Open and well lit interior space, good drinks (so far) This place is so cute! The interior has tons of natural lighting, and plenty of small coffee tables and a few larger tables that allow for people to work. The workers are all very friendly. ~Bethlehem bar (3/5): Was yummy and had a lot of complex flavors (chocolate, oats, graham crackers,?? other stuff), but it was SO dense. Perfect when drinking with a hot beverage though, but not sure if I'd get it again. ~Nutella Mocha (4/5): Really liked this drink. It wasn't super sweet, but had a great coffee flavor too. Just wish I could taste the Nutella a liiiitle bit more. ~Banana Bread (5/5): they were handing out samples, and that little sample was so good. Flavorful, light, moist. If I see this in their bakery case next time, I will definitely get a whole piece. I really enjoyed our time here. I want to try their black coffee/other lattes in the future!

Yelp
It's a good thing this is a big coffee shop because it seems to be always packed. Lots of comfortable seating and various sizes of tables both indoors and out. Plenty of outlets if you're trying to get some work done. The coffee is very good and alternative oat milk or almond milk is free - no up-charge, which is nice. Prices are what you'd expect for an independent coffee spot but they lose a star for lack of flavor options it looks like they rotate in two options seasonally - currently the turmeric honey latte and a Nutella mocha are the specialties. Also, they have the smallest "medium" cup I've seen in a while. Most places this would be small and a dollar cheaper. The parking lot is very small and tight but there's an Amazon fresh lot across the way if you can't find parking in front.

Yelp
Very consistent and good coffee shop across the board! I have been to several locations throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, DC... and now I added this one, and I liked it as well!

Yelp
Great coffee and great service! When I first heard about Compass Coffee opening a location in Fairfax, I was excited. Finally, no more having to go to Arlington or DC to have some Compass. The annual Cherry Blossom Blend is always a great choice, and my personal favorite. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, but it is delicious for the stomach as well. I prefer the cold brew cream over the latte. It's fairly sweeter than typical cold brews, but totally worth it. And while I do tend to favor the seasonal releases (get them while you can, right?), their house cold brew is my go-to non seasonal drink. The staff is very friendly, the location offers enough parking for everyone, and the drinks and pastries are delicious! What else could you ask for? Oh, and they also have dog treats available for your four legged friends!
google avatar

Daniel O.

Yelp
The staff of all Compass Coffee cafes deserve better working conditions and wages. Wishing them the best in their unionization process! Management should absolutely recognize their union and start taking better care of the people who make their establishment the awesome place it is.
google avatar

Lindsay D.

Yelp
I can always count on this Compass Coffee location to be quick, absolutely freezing cold on the inside (great during summer), and to make a perfect iced vanilla latte. This location has easy access via car with two entrances/exists, (1) at a traffic light and (2) by a car dealership with a separate driveway. The baristas here are always friendly and quick. They are extremely consistent with their drinks, and I can't appreciate that enough. There's plenty of seating inside and a handful of tables outside, but mind you there is no shade and, depending on the time of day, it's directly in the sun. So just plan appropriately for where you'd like to sit and sip. Additionally, there are usually several folks sitting inside on the weekends, but there is still plenty of room for onesie-twosie groups.

Yelp
Really good coffee. Best coffee in town. Very fresh, not bitter, and not burnt. I truly recommend this coffee cafe.
google avatar

Yelp
great coffee and nice shop in Fairfax. I like buying their medium roast beans to brew at home. They come in a metal container and you use it to re-fill your beans when you are out and saves some money. I've gotten their lattes and its pretty good. nice to see more coffee places in Fairfax because I love coffee!
google avatar

Jo L.

Yelp
Compass Coffee is a nice place to have coffee while catching up with friends or studying, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here. DRINKS We ordered a vanilla latte and a caramel latte and found both drinks to be average. It could be easily replicated at home and this were not worth the price set here. They did appear to have a wide selection of drinks and food items, and had alternative milks such as almond and oat available as well. AMBIANCE It was a great place to study, and I saw a few people catch up with friends. There's a lot of seating--tables that can fit 2-10 people, and there was always room. PARKING There is a good amount of parking available that is shared with neighboring vendors. I could see it getting especially packed during weekends and dinner time, but the shop generally closes by 5 pm, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Yelp
Compass coffee turned out to be a great place to grab a coffee and take time to work on my school work that needed to be done . It was moderately busy on Saturday and I really enjoyed the cherry blossom cold brew . Normally I'm hesitant to get a cold brew because I like my drinks a bit more sweet but this one was perfect. I think the people working at the register could be a bit more friendly but other than that I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick afternoon drink and because I had a coupon that was sent to me by the business. I have to admit... I am always very wary when it comes to using coupons. But, this one was legit and the gentleman who helped me place my order was kind and quick! The inside of the cafe is spacious and bright. Tons of seating available for working, chatting or reading. An awesome spot to spend a few hours. There were several personal touches around the space-- like small Polaroids of the staff with their names. Makes it feel more like a local spot, which is great. I ordered the coconut iced latte-- a seasonal offering for summer. I got the drink "half sweet" and it was plenty sweet! I would recommend doing this is you don't want your coffee to taste like candy. The coconut syrup added was great. No coconut milk in the cafe, but they do have almond milk and oat milk if you're interested. My drink was delicious. Perfect milk to espresso ratio and like I said before, just the right amount of sweet (with just half the syrup) and a generous amount of ice. Will be back again soon!

Yelp
So happy to have another coffee choice in the vicinity that isn't Starbucks. Easily accessible off 29, clean design, and walkway very busy on its first day of opening. Menu offerings, service, and product quality in line with the DC compass coffee locations. Great addition to Fairfax!!
google avatar

Pete R.

Yelp
Crowded, dirty tables, dirty floors...front cashier and barista looked overworked, which was confirmed by their demeanor. No coffee menu. The owners need to spend some time on customer service, cleanliness, and not just bank on the fact that it's the only drive up coffee shop in the area with ample seating. The moldy and crusty windows made me nauseous!

Yelp
I thought this was just another coffee shop. UGH ITS SO GOOD! and simple. I DON'T really drink coffee though. But my friend does, and they like it as well. On the other side, if you don't like coffee, they have matcha tea lattes, or tea... or just get whatever's in season that looks yummy, because it IS yummy. Environment is nice and seating is bright. There are some outlets if you need or ask if you can plug it in. I think they have wifi but I'm too shy to ask. The employees are all really nice though.
