Compass Coffee

Compass Coffee provides a fun experience. The interior is warm and inviting. There’s lots of seating (a long shared solid wood table in the center with 12 chairs, a bar with nine stools, a wooden bench that looks like a pew in the back, several small tables near the front windows, and some covered outdoor seating). There’s a natural, solid wood floor that just exudes warmth and comfort. There are plants and thoughtfully-placed decorations. There are big windows everywhere providing ample light. My black coffee was very good. They steamed the cream for free and it was excellent ($4.50 with one refill - 10 oz ceramic mug; additional refills are $2). My buddy got a Cortado which was good but I didn’t like that it was in a paper cup. The art on the Cortado? A B. He got a coconut milk upgrade and coconut milk is a bit hard to work with. His Cortado was $6.80 with tax, including the $1 coconut milk upgrade. The service was so-so. I loved the service for me. The girls were great and gave me free steamed cream. My buddy, well, he felt that they were a bit cold. He didn’t feel very welcomed and for him, this is kind of normal when he comes here. Service can also be a bit slow when they get busy. They roast their own beans, so it’s as fresh as possible! Wow, the coffee is good. We didn’t get any food so I can’t speak to that.

The coffee here is so good you’ll want to move to Vancouver (or never leave). An absolutely perfect Guatemalan light roast. They are also the rare, maybe only, third wave feeling coffee shop where the barista/owner is super kind and welcoming and they have heavy cream. They are a purple unicorn rising a narwhal right down the center of main street. Pastries also looking amazing. 🥐 🥐🥐

Stopped by on a walk a while ago and I'm just now leaving a review. It was very dim. The coffee was yummy. We sipped on our drinks and strolled over to the everything vintage shop next door! It was cozy.

Wonderful staff and fantastic coffee and espresso. I met my wife here for the first time seven years ago, so I have fond memories of this place!

Decent coffee. Staff unimpressive, takes a long time for orders. Plenty of other places to get the same quality of coffee and a lot faster. I would say this is on par with Starbucks but at least Starbucks staff are more attentive and friendlier. I have been to this place 3 times and same vibe. Twice in downtown and other one off St. John’s. Will not come back here. A lot better places in Vancouver.

I stopped by for a cappuccino. The coffee wasn’t bad but I didn’t like the atmosphere. The workers were talking with their friends and hearing their conversations above the normal noise level of a coffee shop wasn’t appealing. I won’t be returning. You can throw a rock in any direction from this coffee shop and hit another downtown coffee place.

I've always wondered why Compass had long lines. It was a quiet Sunday morning and we were close, so we swung in. We got our order in fast and the coffee was ready in a few minutes. Our lattes tasted like pure happiness. Smooth and flavorful! The temp was perfect for drinking. We sat inside and enjoyed every sip. It was a great coffee experience! We are looking forward to coming back soon! Great service, great coffee!

My favorite thing to order here is their cold brew with cold foam. It's smooth, flavorful, and never bitter. They get the balance right every time. I also have to call out their chocolate chip cookie. It's perfectly crisp, rich, and easily a great choice alongside coffee. Perfect combo if you want something sweet with your drink. Compass Coffee is a great place to grab a drink, get some work done, or just relax for a bit. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area.

Very busy place! They handled the long line with charm and it moved easy. All drinks I saw with customers looked well made and delicious. Basket case was full of items I wanted one of each of. Ordered back iced tea and the Avocado Toast Plus. Best avocado toast I have had! Seriously want to eat that every day! Lots of seating inside and out. Room to use laptop or sit with a friend and talk.

Coffee shop with the cutest aesthetics! Just adorable! The service was quick and they were super friendly! I ordered an iced matcha latte sweetened with vanilla as it normally comes unsweetened. I also got a pistachio croissant which I had warmed. It was giant but yummy and not overly sweet which I appreciated. They were quite busy and there was a lot of people working on their laptops here. Quite a popular spot but I see why. Cute vibes, good service, yummy pastries and good drinks!

Coffee is good, doesn't disappoint. Stuff was super friendly and shop is clean. Bakery is mid, almond croissant was dry and original croissant wasn't good. I would recommend the coffee but not the bakery.

Exceptionally excellent customer service - polite, patient and helpful. Very clean and attractive environment with ample seating and work space. Food was lovely and drinks were great!

Compass coffee is an aesthetic and cozy coffee shop. There always seems to be a bit of a line no matter when you go. The turmeric latte was a good balance of spicy and sweet, but did have an above average amount of ice in it. I also enjoyed their iced matcha with vanilla, which was on the sweeter side.

I'm disappointed to say that the quality has significantly decreased. They are often out of pastries, beverages, and the coffee has been inconsistent. Service was once fast and friendly but now it seems slow, unprofessional, and aloof. The barista was sniffing shots with his nose practically touching the espresso then poured it into empty cups, letting it sit (get bitter) while prepping milk for 3 other beverages. One of the two baristas dumped water for my pour over before walking off to have a conversation with friends even though there was still a line of customers. By the time I received my coffee it was lukewarm and bitter. I definitely didn't leave feeling that they enjoyed making coffee or people for that matter. Lastly, the owners should clearly mark the floor or hang an "order here" sign because several customers were waiting only to be told that they were in the wrong area. Overall, it was just a super disappointing visit.

Quaint coffee shop. Decor with plants. Lots of bar seating, a few tables and a long communal table in the middle of the coffeeshop. Street parking paid until 6pm They offer the traditional coffees from a Coffee Roaster. We only ordered two cortados. They have milk options for plant based. Good coffee quality.

Went into get some coffee, and my husband asked to use the bathroom, the way the kid working replied to him about being a paid customer was extremely rude, and then after standing there waiting to order with no help I asked him where do we order and he rudely told me down where the computer was. Made me feel like I should have just know. When I didn't clearly see the computer from where I was standing, I just felt an attitude from him that was unnecessary. We ended up leaving because of how we were treated, and I waited to use the restroom at the next place where we bought coffee, 8 months pregnant and all...

Cute little coffee shop with a great vibe. My drink was tasty and the service was great. Inside was a bit crowded but there was also an outdoor seating option for those willing to brave the cold this time of year.

We stopped here on our way out of town and it was okay. The coffee wasn't spectacular. The wait was quite long. My sister got a breakfast burrito and she really liked it. I got my kids a couple muffins and chocolate milk. The muffins were vegan and gluten free... they were awful. I eat gluten and am not a vegan, so maybe if I was they would have tasted fine. The inside was inviting and they had a nice outdoor area. We probably won't make an effort to go back.

Chai. Try the chai. Hands down a delicious spot. Made in house, prepared along with their in house chai syrup with small cayenne kick. Try it

2nd review of this cute place because I can't tell you how much I enjoy it. Ryan- you're the best and you exceed my drink expectations every time. I'm new to the matcha world but he killed it. I came around 6pm and it was busy with pleased customers, you can tell it's a local favorite.

Honestly the coffee was not very good. But the spot is so cute, with lots of light and seating. The service was okay, nothing stand out. The baristas were not super chatty, but there to get their job done. It was busy so that's fair. I wish there were more fun latte flavors. The latte itself was pretty bitter. I wish the milk was creamier. It was $6.75 but not worth that. Maybe I'm just too much of a coffee snob?

Stopped in with friends earlier tonight because this was the only coffee place open past 3pm. It was busy and full of people. Staff was not friendly and didn't acknowledge us. Our hot coffees we received were not even hot. They were barely even warm. Super underwhelmed and not impressed at all. Didn't even taste that great. Definitely could work on their customer service skills. Will not be turning.

Some of the best coffee in Vancouver! I've bought beans for my coffee snob son-in-law and myself, as well as enjoyed a cup and a pastry in house. They are always busy but the wait isn't too long normally. I'm a creamy girl so I like to order breves. Theirs is very good. I ordered a buttery sticky bun that they warmed up for me. Friendly baristas too!

The coffee wasn't my favorite, but the sitting area is pretty. It can get pretty busy, which can make it difficult to get around, just to keep in mind! The baristas weren't very kind to us, unfortunately.

Monkey bread muffin and ocean bun was delicious warmed up. Coffee was pretty good too. Great customer care and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Today, September 24, 2025, @ approximately 6:30 AM, I experienced two terrible baristas working at Compass Coffee while vacationing. Coffee in the morning and a general pleasant interaction can be one of the highlights of my day. Unfortunately, the Wednesday morning crew had a rough start.

Came here for a cup of coffee based on great reviews. I had an americano and hubby had a latte. My Americano was lukewarm and the taste was just horrible. One of the worst coffees I've ever tried. Tasted burnt and sour. Hubby's latte was just alright. Atmosphere wasn't my cup of tea. Service was pretty slow.

I'm a decaf girlie and I got the one of the best decaf americanos here. Vibe is chill, service was friendly.

Amazing little coffee spot. We ordered their dirty chai and vanilla latte. Lots of different milk options (alternative milks) and huge espresso and tea menu. Seating is limited on a Saturday but lots of light and some wall plug in options for studying

My favorite coffee shop in the area. Baristas are great & coffee is amazing. They also have a great variety of foods to choose from. You won't regret coming to Compass!!

When my family and I were in town visiting relatives, my mission was to checkout coffee shops in the area. Compass was close to our airbnb and was recommended by our host and brother-in-law. Their recommendation was spot on. I base my judgement off my favorite specialty drink...the vanilla latte. When made properly, there's a balance of espresso and vanilla syrup. When it's not, either the espresso is overpowering or there's little to no espresso and syrup (I don't like to drink warm milk). It's safe to say the drink was to my liking (thank you baristas). Service was pretty good. Both times my husband and I visited it was busy. It was standing room only when we walked in. The line moved fairly quickly (knowing why I wanted helped a lot and we didn't have time to sit take in the scenery) though.

Solid coffee. Decent atmosphere. Friendly baristas. Price is wild. The most expensive coffee shop I've been to. I mean...Blue Bottle? Intelligentsia? Stumptown? Heart? You name it. I ordered a 12oz iced mocha w/Oat milk. $8.50.

Everything was amazing here! The inside was beautifully decorated for the holidays. They had a nice seasonal selection of food and drinks. I had the Van Peppermint mocha which had a toasted marshmallow on top. I usually don't like peppermint mochas as they're overly sweet but this was perfect. I got the pumpkin spice muffin and that was yummy. Everything was quick to come out even with how busy it was.

I've seen a lot of good reviews of this place so decided to try it. it's a cute coffee shop on the corner and the inside is decorated nicely.. the coffee shop was crowded The Cappuccinos were good but sloppy. For a coffee place in a place as close to Portland you just hold them to a higher standard. In terms of customer service: nothing to rave about.. the employees were talking amongst themselves and we waited for them to come and ask us if we were ready to order.. Overall: I'd give another coffee shop in town a go next time I'm out for my morning cap

Sad to say, this will be our last time here. We've been coming here for the last two years. Used to be vibrant with music playing. In the past we've had several instances of warm or cold coffee. This time they did not disappoint. Both of our coffees were lukewarm. Also, the in-house coffee mugs are smaller and the price went up. Service was fine but I don't blame the workers. I blame the owners for not providing the staff with the proper equipment to keep your coffee HOT. How hard is this? Especially with a price increase and smaller mugs. Do better.

I've gone in here multiple times before getting a tattoo across the street and each time the staff has been so uppity and rude. Just giving off mean girl energy with zero warmth or customer service. Definitely don't give off girl's girls vibes. The food/coffee was fine but not worth the terrible service.

While me and my gf were waiting for the 105 we saw this cute coffee shop and decided to try it out. The interior design was amazing, giving it a unique vibe to hang out with others or study. The service was also good. I got a cappuccino which was very good. However, the cup gave off a unique taste. Not so much so that it ruined my cappuccino but enough for me to notice. As for my gf, she was upset at the small menu selection.

Super cute coffee spot! Yummy drink and pastry options ! I love the large seating area in the middleZ also, they have high chairs which was a huge plus for me considering that i have littles . Great customer service too, will have to go back for some seasonal drinks

Stop by to pick up deliciously roasted and ethically sourced coffee beans for home, and stay for the delicious coffee brewed by knowledgeable baristas. This is an adorable spot with indoor and outdoor seating that's perfect for studying or meeting up with friends.

This has been my go-to in the neighborhood and seems to be for others too based on the number of people I see in there every time. Cute-relaxed vibe and there is plenty of space and seating. They have a good mix of industrial yet warm décor elements and makes the whole place look very inviting .The coffee is good albeit overpriced for the small size of cups they use. The staff is efficient even though I do not find them particularly friendly. The baked goods have been a hit or miss kind of situation for me here but I like that they have some fun and unique options to try .

Great coffee shop near Esther Short Park. The interior is cute and the coffee and food are good. Service here has always been great-- friendly folks working. Definitely worth checking out before the market or whenever you need a bit of pick-me-up during the day.

I ordered a cappuccino from here. It was solid and I would definitely be interested in trying more of their coffees. It's kinda intimidating walking in not knowing how it all works. It's something that a lot of coffee shops struggle with in my opinion. The staff does a good job bringing you in and helping you with the order process. I also ordered a parfait, which was a great snack after a vacation full of snacks and treats.

I give this place 2 stars because the coffee is ok, but it's way overpriced and the service is terrible.. I had been told the service was bad, I find out why.. to the girls that work there, I have a novel idea.. how about you actually do your job instead of texting on your phone.. I know your social media is probably important to you but there's a line of people trying to spend their money waiting for you to update your status Bit of a fail

We popped in for a quick coffee and drank it there. We ordered a small mocha & a medium Goldie latte (turmeric latte with house-blend of many other spices as well). Service was quick, but both of our beverages were just lukewarm as soon as we received them, so perhaps the milk wasn't properly heated first. The both tasted good, other than the temperature. And if you like a spicy chai, you'll enjoy the taste of the Goldie.

They have gluten free pastries I wish was more out for display! I wish they clarified that my matcha latte was iced and foamy. I was surprised the ice lasted so long and didn't water it down, but I'd prefer it hot. The service was fast, as soon I was done ordering it was already available on the counter Cute vibes, kind of confusing where to order because of the counter placement. But it's a fun place to go

I really enjoy coming to this coffee shop for a latte while I work from my laptop. The ambiance is nice and there are enough places to sit and nestle in. The coffee is also delicious! I do enjoy the pastries, though I wish they would warm them up. I've also found their WiFi to not be dependable which will deter me from coming here to do my telecommute. Other than those few things, this place is great!

Awesome service everything. beautiful interior. super friendly workers, I believe one of them I see all the time in a baseball cap is andrew. he loved me and my boyfriend's cat so much he introduced his lovely daughter to him. heart warming!!!!!! Good espresso, good tea, pet friendly, beautiful location. their other location is also dope; super authentic and old timey.

So totally love this place but today I am sad because I ordered their sugar cookie latte expecting a bite sized sugar cookie to come with it and since their fazing out the drink they aren't making the bite sized cookie for the drink any more. This makes me sad. I should've ordered the Sugar and Spice instead. Don't advertise the cookie if your not giving the cookie please and thank you.
