"This Chehalem Mountains estate has been making 100-percent estate wines since the ‘90s, with a nice selection of not only pinot noir and chardonnay, but also tempranillo and syrah. Vidon is almost exclusively by appointment, but will take day-of visitors when possible; the vineyard asks drop-in visitors to call (503) 538-4092 to confirm availability." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

We headed to OR wine country for a weekend of tasting with another couple and chose Compris based on google reviews/pics, we were not disappointed! They had 4 tastes of a wonderful, crisp sparkler poured before we even got in the door. The people and the wines are lovely, the views are incredible, it really was the perfect place to start off our wine journey, I highly recommend a visit here.

This place is a gem. Drew is an amazing winemaker and an amazing human. The art and talent behind these wines takes everything to the next level.

Google
Gorgeous setting, terrific charcuterie plate, lovely humans and super tasty wines - recipe for a fantastic day. We really enjoyed meeting Drew, one half of the ownership team and hearing all about grape growing and wine making. We had a lovely and educational visit, which is right up my alley. Thank you to John and Michele (and Cassie) for bringing us to this beautiful place.

Google
Erin, Dru & Ella have created such a fun tasting room vibe and experience. Stoked to have them down the road from where I live. Personal favorites are Wavelength Chardonnay and Midnight Journey Syrah! Can't wait to visit again with some summer sunshine!

Teryl Andrews

Google
My friends, who are members, brought us for a tasting. Drew was the host with the absolute most! Best view, best wines, and so very accommodating! Ella was also a pleasure! Thank you so much for the great experience! We will be back!!!

Autumn

Google
A beautiful location and really great wines. They have some lighter style Syrah and Tempranillo which is a nice change from the Pinot noir typical in the area. Ella, our tasting room host, was friendly and knowledgeable and was so fun to chat with about all things wine and music! We are looking forward to returning!

Dave Pierson

Google
The staff is amazingly welcoming. We stopped in on a Saturday without a reservation and we were greeted with to tastes of wine. This is a welcome we had never recieved when walking in uninvited. One of the best experienced I have had tasting in the area, highly recommended. Great variety of wine all from the 12 acre property. Everything I tried was delicious.

Google
Such a cozy vibe where they make you feel like family! Drew and David are great hosts. The wine is fabulous. Rain or shine, there's a beautiful view, heat lamps if needed, and impeccable tastes!

Yelp
Compris Vinyard is the rebranding of this unfussy, down-to-earth, super welcoming winery well off the beaten path and well worth the trip. Wines named after music, glassware that nods to the science of it all, outdoor tented seating with heaters (much appreciated in the chilly rainy weekend!), and very friendly faces. Very accessible wines, and a really nice flip side to the fancy wine culture we experienced at our first stop (which was also lovely, just more fussy). The scenic views are breathtaking, and the drive out is so pretty!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing Pinot Noir. The winemaker was so friendly and provided the history of the vineyard and surrounding ones. The wine here is absolutely outstanding. This is one of the most unpretentious wineries with some of the best wine. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I came here because someone mentioned that the place is owned by an astronaut. Did a bit more homework and learned he actually was an engineer who worked on the Apollo program. Well, we share the same line of work in different decades. The tasting appointment was actually right after a final exam. I was zapped by stress. Driving through the beautiful Oregon wine country roads, I think it was much better than Napa and Fredericksburg! It kinda reminded me of Tasmania... Vidon sits above the hill so certainly I was excited about the view I was greeted by Stephanie. I picked a seat on the wooden chairs overlooking the fields of grapes. She brought out five tasters... all in test tubes! My favorite is their 3-clones Pinot Noir. I then got to meet Don the owner and had a conversation about the history of space age - what I just went though in the exam but much more pleasant! A rocket scientist winemaker is just as good as an astronaut! For my love for wine and space, he is my inspiration when I retire:)

Yelp
Vidon was by far the best winery we visited in Oregon. The owner, winemaker and staff are there daily and spend time with each guest answering questions and sharing stories. They have the most amazing view coupled with very good wines. We came back a second time and even joined the wine club because it was inexpensive. We would highly recommend stopping by Vidon or planning a visit when you're in the area.

Yelp
Exceptional! I loved everything about this winery. They welcomed us with a glass of wine upon arrival. From their mission, their exceptional views, their warm Eddie Bauer blankets, their informative and knowledgeable team, their warm service and personalities, and their overall treatment made us feel right ahome! We could've spent our entire day there. Will Definitely be back. We even had special and unexpected treats. We got to taste the grapes from the vine and we were there at the right time of the year to taste some unfermented wine. Thank you guys for a Fantastic experience!

Yelp
I always enjoy visiting some of the smaller, more out-of-the-way vineyards and wineries in this area, and Vidon did not disappoint. The wines were terrific, and I had a great time chatting with Dru. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Mary C.

Yelp
Small intimate tasting room space. Delicious wines and friendly staff. *No busses or Limousine (no place to turn around).

Lisa D.

Yelp
A must stop . Beautiful panoramic view & wonderful wine. Don the owner was a nasa astronaut. He is delightful man to talk to.

Kristi W.

Yelp
We had such a great visit here with Dru (owner) & Dave (wine maker) , & Erin (owner). We are excited to join the wine club family as they start this new adventure! Amazing setting, Fantastic wines!!!! We just need to come back to say hi to Tiquette (President) and taste more wine! Very personable experience.

Rick S.

Yelp
What a great find in Willamette! While Dru and Erin are new owners of this winery, they are amazingly gracious and really good people. Their winery sits at the top of the hill overlooking the valley with spectacular views. However, the real reason to stop here is the wines!! They are really great expressions of the valley; great Pinot and Chardonnay. They also offer some non traditional offerings such as Tempranillo. Can't wait to return.

Melinda W.

Yelp
We loved having the owner, Don, swing by and talk with us during the tasting. He is so delightful. It was a special, small tasting experience and we loved visiting.

Jim P.

Yelp
Vidon Vinyard is a small winery located a few minutes outside the town of Newberg in the Chehalem Mountain AVA. There is a lovely outside seating area with beautiful views of the valley. The owner is a retired NASA physicist, and he names some of his wines after space missions. They offer a pinot noir made with a three clone blend; 777,115, and Pommard. They also grow some Syrah and Tempranillo grapes on the property which is a little unusual for the area. The staff is unpretentious and engaging. The winemaking seems to lean more to the scientific strain as opposed to the artistic, but I guess you can't get away from the science. The last 1.2 miles getting there is on a slow going gravel road. They have no wine club but instead, offer tiered discounts based on your annual spending. Worth a stop but not on my top ten list for the valley.

Tessa M.

Yelp
One of my favorite wineries in the world. The owners, Vicki and Don (Vi-don), are so warm and just lovely. Don is a retired rocket scientist who has elevated wine to the stars, literally. Be sure to try the rich tempranillo and the single- and triple-clones! So worth the beautiful drive to this part of the Willamette Valley, where you can enjoy the amazing postcard view of the rolling mountains and blue sky, clean fresh air, with some really wonderful folks.

Lenzi C.

Yelp
Go here!! Had some friends visiting and were told about this place and the nice man who owns and runs it. We went and it was by far our favorite vineyard experience! Such great service and conversation. You could tell they were so glad we were visiting. It was a wonderful time!

John M.

Yelp
This is now our 'house' wine. I'm proud to share this with my friends and can't wait to see Don and crew again.

Gary M.

Yelp
This is easily my favorite winery in the Valley. Don produces some of the greatest Pinots and that Chardonnay is out of this world. Also has a great history with NASA as a physicist. Beautiful views...don't miss

Yelp
let me start by addressing "Dr. X": no one should waste any time paying attention to what this person has to say regarding wine, period. Anyone who would ignorantly trash one of the finest boutique winemakers in the region deserves nothing more than scorn and indifference. With that out of the way, let me say that Don is a legitimate genius and outstanding winemaker. I've been blown away by Don's Pinot's since the day I was fortunate enough to show up there on a 4th of July event three years ago. His Pinot Noirs are as good as can be found in the Willamette Valley. He is seriously a rocket scientist who has turned his intelligence towards winemaking and we are all fortunate to enjoy the fruits of his labours. He is a true gentleman and I heartily recommend his wines to anyone.

Yelp
Vidon was the last stop on my Sunday wine tour. It wasn't in my original plans but several of the wineries I went to earlier recommended it. Vidon is named for the founders, Vicki & Don. I had the pleasure of meeting Don, a former NASA astrophysicist and down-to-earth guy. Don was busy working with the pinot gris that he hoped to bottle the next day so Dave took over to handle my flight. Dave let me sample the soon-to-be '10 pinot gris. I will definitely return to Vidon after its release so I can get a bottle or two. Then I got to do a vertical pinot noir flight featuring '07, '08, and '09. I love being able to do vertical flights because it is so neat to taste these wines side-by-side and see exactly what differences are present due to the weather in each vintage and the age of the wine. Because Dave & Don are so cool, they even let me try a secret sample of a syrah they're playing with. Don either recently planted or is about to plant syrah on his estate so they have been experimenting with syrah from the southern edge of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA to see how Vidon's will compare. The syrah was delicious - especially after a full day of pinot tasting. It was nice to kind of shock the system and try something bold.

Yelp
All wines are oxidized and have the rusty color to prove it. They are named after all sorts of family members which makes it even creepier. Either way not well balanced, high in acidity, no length, no nose no personality. Nuf said. Pricey too, at a hefty $48 for a bottle!!!! Check out my other Oregonian Wine reviews!!!!!!!!!

Walter H.

Yelp
I never considered joining a wine club, because that just "wasn't me". I was never the type, though my partner joined one when we lived in California. That all changed when we found Vidon. The wines are just phenomenal - Don makes an incredible wine! They're delicious, and just go down so easy... There are two wineries in the world that are at the very top of my list, and Vidon is in one of those two spots. Just incredible - I can't say enough good things about Vidon! NOTE: They just converted to be a private winery, so they're not running an open tasting room unless you're a member. But membership is still open; just head to their website and sign up.

Jon M.

Yelp
The view alone is 5 star, gorgeous! Tastings by appointment only but the process is very easy. Their tasting fee is steep at $25 pp, but the the whole experience offers value. You'll sample straight from the barrel and get a brief private tour of the production facility.

Mark W.

Yelp
Absolutely one of my favorites in Oregon wine country. Not very well known, but that's OK. Tremendous grounds and the owners are often on-site and couldn't be friendlier. You go in for a taste and come out feeling like a member of the family. If you're in the area this is definitely worth a stop. They had gone "private" for a while, but not anymore. All are welcome.

John B.

Yelp
A great little family winery. All of their wine is solid with their pinot and Chardonnay truly standing out. I highly recommend including Vidon in your itinerary, they provide a phenomenal experience and environment for tasting and to hone in one's palette.

Carl G.

Yelp
These guys really are different. Check out their non-wine club program. It's a membership/rewards/points program with no restrictions, unlike most wine clubs. The folks are pretty interesting too. An 82 year old astrophysicist wine maker and his charming wife, and some new guy David who reminds me of Drew Carey, but much smarter. If you're interested in wine education you can learn lots from these folks.

B Sundeep V.

Yelp
We stopped in at the recommendation from another vineyard. Wine was overall tasty, but most varietals fell flat compared to the prior vineyard. The $20 tasting fee is quite steep, especially for the wines and atmosphere. We bought a $50 bottle of wine and neither tasting was waived... I've been to more generous wineries in Napa! Overall, wine is tasty, but expensive.

Alaina S.

Yelp
I've been to Vidon several times. It's a hidden gem up a windy gravel road. Vidon is very laid back and non-pretentious. The wine is great and the view is even better!!!

Robin R.

Yelp
Vidon was not on our original list to visit our first time up in the Willamette Valley, but was recommended by Ryan over at Trisaetum. The location has a great view from the Chethelam mountains. The wines are a bit fuller and bolder than most. We were able to do a vertical tasting of their Pinots and were lucky enough to try the Tempernillo that is not normally on the tasting menu. The owner, Don, was with us for half of our tasting. How fantastic to get to chat with the owner/winemaker!

Amandasmall P.

Yelp
I would not recommend this place! The man behind the bar was incredibly rude and short tempered. I simply asked if they served beer for one member of our three person group and he snapped back "no! This isn't a cocktail bar! We are a winery, we serve wine." It was a great view and the wine was fine but the experience was embarrassing. I had two guest from France visiting me and someone recommended this place to take them as a place we could relax and catch up and enjoy a quiet afternoon, it was quiet alright. Probably because everyone else does t come here. As someone that frequents wineries it was sad to have my guests treated so poorly. Another group came in after us and they were so friendly and kind and the man treated them just as rude. He seems very pissed off to be working in the wine and customer service business. We will not be returning since there are so many other wineries In the area with friendly staff that actually want to talk about the wines they pour and taste great. Go anywhere else. But like I said the view was beautiful.

Andy L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite lesser-knowns out there. It's tucked away off the main road, but is worth a visit. Vidon makes some outstanding wines, and their Pinots are some of my favorites in the Willamette Valley. I've been back three times this summer, and will definitely return again. It's worth the trip.

John C.

Yelp
Personable and friendly, a small operation. All their lab gear/ shipping/ tanks are right there in the tasting area. They are open 7 days a week now. They only had two wines available. The '09 blend had a bitter taste and was not great, the '10 blend is drinking ok at the moment and the winemaker suggests a few more months in bottle. A little steep at $40 though. There were fruit flies about the tasting area. Good views.

Doug B.

Yelp
Great wines! Best value in Oregon wine country. You get served great wine served by one of the most amazing wine makers - Don. If you get a chance to chat with him you'll enjoy every minute.
