We came here on our vacation from the US and on our Thanksgiving and it was absolutely perfect! We had 3 starters - the perfect egg, foie gras and the pizzette. All were amazing! And then for main course, we had the veal filet, scallops and beef confit. The beef was very orangey but everything else was delicious! And then the desserts - chocolate eclair (OMG!!) and the tiramisu (kids said best they have ever had!). It was an adorable, quaint place and very friendly staff. Highly recommend!

The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere for a relaxed dinner, not too loud or quiet. The service was helpful and the menu had just the right amount of options (main courses around 25-30€). I was stunned at how good my turbot with miso sauce turned out to be. The veal dish my partner had was also delicious. Reservation’s a must, but we got one for the same evening.

Nice and busy bistro. Recommends their tuna carpaccio, grilled calamari, lamb shoulder, prawns main and chu dessert.

Had a fantastic dinner here. Stumbled in right at 7 o'clock and got one of the last seats without a reservation. Everything is was beautifully prepared. Only about five things on the menu and everything was delicious!

Enjoyed dinner for two here in September. The food was exceptional, and the service was excellent. We had a number of dishes, including grilled calamari and lamb shoulder amongst others, which were particularly delicious. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for exceptional French and Mediterranean cuisine in a bistro-style setting.

Great service with perfectly balanced flavors. Highly recommend! Our favorites were the grilled calamari and sea bass. Sea bass was perfectly cooked w/ crispy skin, juicy meat, and veggies cooked in wine.

We came to this restaurant with high expectations after seeing their reviews and knowing that they have a michelin star. The atmosphere was nice and the interior is beautiful. The service is professional and quick. We were disappointed with the quality and flavour of the food. My husband and I both ordered the steak fillet and asked for rare. The steaks came out dry, tough and over-cooked, closer to medium-well.

I enjoyed my lunch here. The ceviche is fantastic and the duck breast was solid. I think the strawberry Mille feuille could’ve been better but maybe that’s just how they are. I didn’t find it particularly exciting. Other than that, the service was warm and friendly and I enjoyed my experience. I’d recommend coming here and giving it a try.

What a treat! Flew into Nice and didn't have anything planned. Luckily was able to book a 9pm rez and had a wonderful time. Do not worry if French is your second language, staff speak English, and well! Menues are all hand written on chalk boards and you have time to review. Few options but I suspect all done extremely well. Our four choices were: the muscles, calamari, duck and beef confit. Muscles: delicious, in a broth so delicate you kept digging to get a taste. Calamari: cooked to.perfection! With a orange sauce that complimented it lovely Duck: again perfectly cooked with a demo glaze you must pair with every bite.. humble note order PINK.. and just sit back and thank me :) Yes, come and eat if you can. Staff work like a well oiled machine and are so kind and knowledgeable at the same time. Rezys are a must to enjoy this wonderful experience.

An amazing, unexpected meal. We didn't even have a reservation, but somehow got super lucky just walking in. My friend who made our itinerary had this place on the list of places to eat at, but we didn't have a resy so we didn't have our hopes up. It was fairly late when we walked by. I saw a pretty big crowd outside, shockingly mostly Americans. We put our name in and less than 5 mins later we got seated - ahead of people who were there before us. They led us to a sorta corner table, overlooking the kitchen. We got to watch the talented chefs do work all night. The smells coming from the kitchen honestly got me feeling wild thoughts. Like damn. For some reason we all decided to do a la carte. Maybe because it was late. Someone got risotto, I got the pork chop and the other got lamb. We all loved what we got, but agreed that mine was the best. This is the kind of place that would be my go to spot if I lived here. Awesome vibes, innovative food and overall great atmosphere

We got easy reservations by calling the restaurant a few days in advance. The space is small but cozy and the server was pleasant. The food was for the most part very good but one dish ruined the evening! We had the grilled octopus: it was tasty. The stuffed ravioli was good and the beef cheeks were tender and flavorful. The scampi skewer with babaghanoush was the forgettable dish. The eggplants were bland and the shrimps were topped with a brown sauce that was bitter : The whole thing was a mess! I really did not enjoy it and it ruined the evening. The house rose was average . I am not sure I will be back!

Wow this place was perfection. I loved the vibe of the whole place as well as the huge board menu they bring to every table. The saffron risotto and stuffed zucchini flowers were to die for. This restaurant deserves all the praise it gets.

Celia was AMAZING!!! Super recommendations and service! The food was fantastic...we LOVED the grilled squid (if you love perfectly grilled squid and amazing garlic flavor), the seriole (aka amberjack) carpaccio--- so delicious! Even though we are four, we had 2 main courses- (1 each) veal liver and the beef cheek with ravioli. They were so incredibly rich and delicious that I am certain to wake up having dreams for years to come...waking up in an anxious sweat of how I get back to eat here again!!!! For desserts- we had the chef's fresh goat cheese and the house made chocolate mousse. Ok- so we can't pick a favorite here....they were both that good! Highly recommend you come with a friend that likes both sweet and savory...and very pure and rich chocolate!!!!!

We spent our last night in Nice here and it was the perfect capstone on our week-long trip to the South of France. We came upon this recommendation from a local woman who was at a Provence winery we visited one afternoon - she told us this was a must visit, so we kept this in our back pocket to end our trip. And WOWZA. Taste buds were floored. Our server was the nicest and gave us all the best menu recommendations. Any menu that has a chalkboard is mine kind of place. I want a spot that's going with what's fresh and how the chef wants to interpret that day. We had best pâté en croûte - OH MY GOD - seriously, best ever. The pork cheeks with root veggies were a stunner. The best octopus and pepper risotto. And can I tell you the polenta was off the charts creamy. Seriously, don't walk, run here, and then sit down and enjoy everything that enters your mouth!

The setting is wonderful in a little alley off the main square in Nice. The service was top notch and forgiving of our poor French. Here is where my wife and my experience went in two different directions. I had the shredded lamb in phyllo dough over a bed of couscous and vegetables with a sauce and it was wonderful. My wife had the Chef's Risotto which had risotto with herbs and topped with grilled octopus. The octopus was the right texture but too salty. Also the risotto was crunchy which is a no-no. My wife was the one who wanted to try this place for its seafood and I was reluctant. We ended up with completely different experiences compared to our expectations.

Stopped in quickly for a pre-dinner drink and bite, so don't have too much to say other than - service was great (almost too attentive, they checked on us frequently), the wine was ok (we only ordered a carafe and there was only one option), and the tuna tartare was amazing. Wish we had more time in nice to return and try more of the food.

Wow... A great place for french food. I tried the lunch menu, and was very happy with is. There were courses, and i could choose per course from several options. Given i'm not a big eater, loved the food so much thar i finished all the plate. Well advised. Do check out openinghours as it is very popular, and it may be good to be one of the first ones arriving.

This is a difficult to find restaurant that's tucked away jn a corner street. The service was friendly and helpful as the menu was all in French. For starter I got the eel, which was delicious. Extremely tasty and satisfying. I wish I had stopped there. The main dish (some type of white fish) was quite disappointing. Fairly weak in flavor. I preferred the egg and vegetables on the side that it came with.

Really love this place. It is constantly good and everyone that I have brought here is always happy with the good and service. I have enjoyed sitting outside but also like seating in the back and looking at the chef and staff work. Service is always great.

Silky foie gras, calamari so fresh he threatened to walk back to the sea, lemon risotto with succulent, sweet and perfectly seared scallops, as well as grilled monkfish with autumn veggies and potatoes all were beautifully presented, and cheerfully served at this excellent restaurant to which we would return happily. Memorable, reasonable and delicious. Service was warm and welcoming too! Go and take your friends; they will thank you!

This resturant is a little hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Vieux Nice. The food is well curitated and tastes equally as good. Would highly recommend if you want to try something off the beaten path (away from tourists).

This was by far one of the best meals I had throughout my entire travels in France. We were lucky to get a table in the back room, which has cute decor and you can watch the chefs cook everything right there. Service was friendly and prompt. The menu changes often, so they have it on an blackboard they bring up to your table. The food was amazing - I got the lamb with gnocchi, and it was sort of a stew where the lamb finished cooking in the gravy-like broth at the bottom. We also got the white fish and the vegetable gnocchi which were also both delicious. To finish, we ordered the cheesecake, which was not only beautiful but also amazingly creamy. Definitely highly recommend checking it out if you are in Nice! They also have some limited outdoor seating if you time it right.

My mouth is salivating thinking about how this restaurant so deliciously creates their food. It's tucked into a small side street in the Old Town of Nice. We were sat in back where we experienced the fun of watching the chefs cook in front of us. It's styled in a retro kitchen like space yet somehow does not emit the tackiness you would expect from that vibe. There are cool and corky things along the walls as well. The menu is in French but if you need translation support the staff are there to help. If you have dietary restrictions, just tell the waiter and the chefs should be capable of creating a different dish for you (as they did for me). They had otherwise great recommendations for which dishes to eat. Especially with the cheesecake. I'm drooling it was that good. Don't share it; you'll regret that. Instead, please try it and enjoy.

Wonderful dinner from start to finish. They were able to get us in, barely, without a reservation. Timing of dishes and complexity of flavors were on point. All dishes were cooked perfectly (scallops, octopus, and medium veal).

This is a popular restaurant and while I was there numerous people were turned away at the door due to a lack of a reservation. Clearly, a reservation is recommended. I came for dinner, mid-week in November. The menu is good, with plenty of choice. I enjoyed my beef tongue, while the diner beside me, who chose the same, appeared to be unhappy because his cut of meat was an irregular shape- clearly from lower down of the animal. Staff are friendly and efficient, readily speaking English to those who don't speak French.

I think Comptoir du Marche may be the best restaurant in Nice right now. If you can, sit in the back room - it's calmer and you can watch what's going on in the kitchen. We had the salmon gravlax with raw beet and fennel, and the grilled calamari with artichokes for our first course - they were both wonderful and fresh and rich. Then we had the osso buco, which was served with a nice piece of marrow, and the veal loin served with gnocchi. Both were served in small pots with rich sauces. For dessert we had the very, very light chocolate mousse and the strawberries with whipped cream. Service was perfect, attentive but not intrusive and every server seemed to be having a good time. We could watch the kitchen and everyone seemed to truly enjoy their work. The food preparation was top notch! Everything was fresh and rich and delicious. Make reservations well in advance! Don't expect to go in August as they will most likely be closed for their own vacation. This is truly one of my favorite Nice restaurants that I have been to. Priced reasonably with very fresh ingredients and flavorful preparations. There are chalkboard specialties along with the slated traditional favorites. I had the magret de canard prepared medium rare surrounded by fresh vegetables. Others enjoyed the tuna and the entrecote with bearnaise. The tomato salad! Oh the tomato salad! Tomatoes grow well in this mediterranean climate, so that's the bonus. The olive oil was fresh and had that noted "heat" about it. Scallions were sprinkled on top along with other flavors and herbs mixed in. Just perfect!

Their food really is just OK (for Nice standard), but due to its prime location and savvy servers, I think people generally have a good time here. (thus the high-rating) If you want better food, I suggest looking beyond Old Town (e.g. along Rue Grimaldi), because Old Town is full of restaurants targeting tourists - focusing on high-volume, attention grabbing decors, and convenience. I also found their service here a bit pushy. The server was really trying to make us order more and rake up the bill.

Come early and on time. Or make a reservation cause this place only does one seating per dinning session. Once you get seated, hopefully you get Celina as your server. She's awesome and will make your dinning experience that much better. I would get the foi gras with toast, and the clams to start. One is heavy and juxtaposed with the lightness of the clam sauce just make you say oui oui bene! Then move onto your plates with pork cheeks and white fish and finish off with some smooth pennecotta. It's like smooth Jazz on a clear night. Puts you in the right mood. mmMMmmMmm.

An unexpected and fantastic little find! Wandering around Nice's old city, there is so much to see, so many little places to chose from. We chose Le Comptoir du Marche, on a dark, misty March evening, and wandered in--sans reservations. Wow, what a cozy little place! They welcomed us in and gave a nice little table. The place was full of interesting decor to look at, and full of people as well! The food was delicious and artfully presented. We ordered steak and roast potatoes, and a succulent roast beef over potato puree, and red wine. Thank you for a delicious meal. Definitely recommended.

Fantastic! This is what great bistro fare should be, and especially in tourist towns such as Nice, isn't. They speak fluent English if necessary but the menu is in French. Starters: great beef tartare as in TripAdvisor and Yelp pictures. Nice and fresh, perfect in presentation, and thoughtful in ingredients. Nightly special crab ravioli with lobster foam, while on the smallish side (4), were formidably crafted with a soft, light, thin dough while not being too delicate and a tremendous filling shining through. This ravioli dish would rival anything similar at any restaurant in Italy. No joke, it was that good. And at 10 euros. Mains: Beef cheek was as advertised and as in pictures - tremendously flavorful without being heavy. No veggies but a half carrot, so you'll be married to meatiness for this dish. Wife's special, pork shank, had more veg and was delightfully prepared. These two mains signify good bistro cooking at its finest. For 14-15 euros, find me better food in Nice. Dessert: split a quick panna cotta, which seems silly in France, yet it was also done with care and attention. The raspberry compote on top was on point without being too sweet. Service was attentive the entire evening and we needed help with translation, which our server was happy to provide. Expect a bit of terseness as the night wears on and the restaurant gets busy. Don't worry - it's not you. The 3-4 servers have a big burden to keep things churning. The bread served is fantastic and the woman at the front was nice enough to disclose which baker they buy it from. From start to finish, this was a truly wonderful meal, a taste of France without the fluff, landing in the middle price-wise and with a very, very high quality:price ratio. My wife and I are good cooks and enjoy a good meal out, ordering things that take too much time to cook or are something we would not make ourselves. This one fit the bill. Highly recommended. Reserve in advance! This meal was so much better than what we had at Chez Acchiardo, it's not even funny. No comparison in the slightest. They take pride in their craft and care about their food. How do I know? I watched a young chef whose knife needed a quick sharpening stop midway through cutting a duck breast, break out a wet stone, give the knife a few sharpenings, clean up, and continue to get the duck breast perfectly sliced. That dish comes with two slices per plate. That tells you all you need to know.

We truly had a dining experience. We walked by when it first opened and there was nobody there. We decided to walk around and when we came back 15 minutes later, it was nearly packed. We were brought olives, olive oil, and a delicious ricotta spread to go with the bread and wine we ordered. The menu was written on a chalkboard in French and the waiter and waitress did a great job of explaining the dishes to us. We started with the shrimp risotto and beef bone marrow. The shrimp was perfectly crunchy and juicy, and the flavours of the risotto paired with it very well. The bone marrow was a unique experience and very savoury. It came with an artichoke spread and mushrooms, all of which when combined together formed a masterpiece. For our main course, we had scallops and beef cheek. The scallops were good but were slightly over seasoned with salt. I would probably have chosen something different. However, the beef cheek was the highlight of the meal. It was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside yet fork tender. The meat was well accompanied with a vegetable medley and ravioli that accentuated it but did not overpower the taste. For dessert, we had Pavlova. We had no idea what it would actually be and we were not disappointed. A combination of cream, meringue, and lychee fruit was very refreshing and not too filling. I'm pretty sure I was smiling like a little kid the entire meal with excitement. The staff were all amazing and did not rush us at all. They were helpful whenever we needed them and were very knowledgeable about the food. Overall, I would strongly recommend this restaurant. Make sure to get there early, and have a great experience!

We went to a high priced fancy restaurant last night THEN stumbled across this restaurant on Yelp for tonight. The food was by far much better here than the highly coveted expensive restaurant that we went to before. We had the calamari which was superior to U.S. Not deeply fried but sautéed and beautiful. I had the John Dory fish which was excellent. My husband had the veal which was light and delicious. The monte Blanc pear dessert was truly remarkable and light. We will certainly be back here the next time we are in Nice.

One of the best dining experiences I have had so far on my trip to Nice! I recommend making a reservation as they fill up quickly. It is tucked away on a less traversed street in old town Nice which I feel adds to its charm. If possible ask to be seated in the back next to the kitchen so you can see the chefs preparing your food, the atmosphere is lovely back there! For entrees my husband and I had the pork cheek which came with polenta and the beef cheek which came with gnocchi. They were both amazingly delicious!! The servers were attentive and took time to translate and explain the menu which was in French. Overall it was an amazing experience.

If you are looking for a perfect authentic French meal this is it! Flavors come together perfectly in this unassuming little French cafe. Reserve ahead - the place is not on Fork so you need to call/stop by. The menu for lunch and dinner is the same so dont worry if you catch one and not the other. Amazing experience!

On our first night in Nice we visited Le Comptoir du Marche and the overall experience was good but not 5 stars. First of all, the restaurant is small and very cozy with some nice decor. And this is one of those restaurants where the menu changes occasionally so they are written on blackboard that they bring to the table, but be ware it is all in French and our servers did not help translate. In the end we ordered some dishes and the food was tasty (not one of the best meals I have ever had, but good). In addition the food is properly priced and it is neither expensive nor cheap but well priced. My only issue with this restaurant was the lack of a friendly service that would have helped to make this experience a memorable one.

This was one of the best meals I had in Nice. I am still dreaming of the Gravlax and the Beef Tartar!

We had a truly memorable meal here tonight. The appetizer of burrata with market tomatoes was out of this world. For main courses we had the seared tuna & the roasted turbot, again- unbelievably delicious. If you like rare tuna, don't miss this! Unfortunately, we did not save room for dessert. because I would have loved to try more of the first-rate cuisine offered by the staff at le comptoir!

Amazing service and the food was delectable. A must try in a crowded Nice scene. Loved every bit of the meal. We had the pork cheeks with polenta which came in a rich and savory sauce. The duck was recommended rose (slightly pink) and was full of flavor. My only regret is not saving enough space to eat more!

Wonderful restaurant! We had lunch at sister restaurant Bistro D'Antoine and was very impressed so wanted to try this plus a few more by same owner. The raw shrimps were sweet and fresh. Scallops was perfectly undercooked. The veal & gnocchi was nicely prepared rare and submerged in a tasty broth. We love every dishes we ordered.

Overall a fantastically French meal. Situated a little away from tourist traffic, Comptoir Du Marche provides a touch of French with little English from waiters and menu in French only and hand written to represent the changing and seasonality of the offerings. Were recommended a few items and ended up with the onion tart to start and duck and octopus over couscous for mains. Also had some white and red wine for $4 each, though plenty of bottles can be had for less than $30 easily. Fresh baguette to start really was quality and olive oil perfect. Onion tart was basically a dry French onion soup with wet onions and a soft bread bottom. Sardines on top added a different flavor but overall a very nice opener especially for bread and onion lovers. Octopus dish extremely good looking and tasty. Seafood cooked well and couscous great with a slight hint of truffle oil. Arugula makes this a healthier option to boot. Duck is a full meat course. Fresh carrot and mushroom and potato on the side make this a meat soup without the broth. Duck again cooked perfectly. Really enjoyed this meal and fantastic that we were able to find a seat at 8:30 pm without reservation. Would recommend to all even without reservation as turnover is quick.

Pros: Friendly service to tourists compared to the rest of French restaurants I have been to. Yes, speak English well. Cons: I guess I expected too much. It was not delicious as much as I expected. No menu for dinner. All is À la carte.

Best meal in France! Asked the waiter what his favorite dish was and he suggested the pork cheek with polenta. I was nervous, but did not regret his choice the moment it arrived. Amazing flavor, texture, and consistency. A must have in Nice!! Thank you Jacob for you amazing suggestions, kindness (as we did not speak any French), and attentive service! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I soent nice moment in that little place, it was delicious : homemade fresh food with an open kitchen , the cooking is good nevertheless i would need largest share, French English and Italien speaker the staff is professional , the style decoration is canteen, i was skimpy, Ia good adress in the old town. I recommend ++++

Fantastic cuisine and stellar Customer Service! Everything we tasted was fresh, made to order local and exquisite! The staff could not be more helpful and gracious even with my daughter and granddaughter asking questions. All was expertly explained! I recommend Comptoir du Marche VERY highly and give them five stars for all aspects of their very personally attentive operation.

We arrive early at 7pm and fortunately there aren't many customers and we have a table. Entree is a cooked vegetable soup which tastes great ( was told its soup uses white wine as an ingredient). Main dishes are decorated with similar vegetables. Canard is carefully done, soft and tender. We order "Notre Mont Blanc" desert and is amazed by its design and flavor. Lovely little restaurant with great service and pleasant interaction. Definitely recommend and will revisit.

Best food we had in Nice. Sticking to mid-priced lunch and dinner, we tried to find the best quality and service for the price. Le Comptoir was as good as it got. We had duck & a quinoa/octopus dish and both were perfect.

This food is delicious at this restaurant. They have a friendly and professional staff. They translate the menu if you need clarification and do not mind. They are a gem. My husband and I both had great meals, starter and dessert. To start we had the mussels that were awesome. He had the pork cheeks and I had the duck breast rare for entrees, both great. Make a reservation and visit them for great food and service.

Book ahead! You will struggle to get a table otherwise. We went as a group of 7 people and had a lovely evening. You might struggle with the standard menu as a vegetarian or vegan but they were super helpful and friendly to me and made me a specific starter and main course that were both vegan (I had the pizza du Comptoir without the cheese or meat and the artichoke main dish in a white wine sauce with other veggies). The meat lovers were in heaven. Margret de canard, steak tartare etc. happy happy friends :) Hubby had a veal cheek warm tartare and beef tongue for main. Wine selection was mostly by the bottle but I had the house white which was perfectly nice. We spent about 35 euros each for at least two courses each and drinks. Good value for the tasty fresh seasonal interesting food and a nice break from the standard Nicois fare (as much as I do love it!) If you want more info check out my blog (link in my profile)

This is the BEST restaurant in Nice. Haute cuisine without any pretense. English translation of the menue, wine suggestions, amazing service, knowledgeable staff, perfect service in a country french atmosphere - very memorable. Make a reservation as it is very popular and go in the middle of the week.
