Raise a Toast to Bartenders With Tequila Cocktails at These South Florida Bars | Eater

"Ft. Lauderdale Beach doesn’t inherently seem like a place for the old wood bar and stately grey stones of a classic Irish pub. But somehow, Con Murphy’s makes it work, and has been slinging drinks both downstairs and on its scenic rooftop for years. It’s survived so long with a combination of charismatic bartenders and fantastic drinks, which attract Lauderdale locals as much as they do spring breakers. Head to the upstairs bar and take in the view out over the ocean, then forego the usual pub cocktails for a bright, citrusy Murphy’s Margarita. Given the tropical surroundings, it somehow feels more appropriate." - Matthew Meltzer

If you want delicious food, that is super reasonably priced, and look out at the beach while you eat, then you have to go to Con Murphy’s at beach place! The honey chili chicken wings were the best I have ever had. The salads are fresh and the potato skins and ranch are delicious as well. With all day happy hour, this is a great place to take a break from the sun while in Fort Lauderdale.

Google
Excellent food and service with beach views! Big shout out to our server, Anthony! He was outstanding and so knowledgeable about the food and drink menus! Thank you & can’t wait to go back soon!!

Google
Crab Claws are dripping with garlic butter...add an extra piece of garlic toast, you got yourself a meal! Fried fish hot and flaky! Diet Coke seemed off somehow?? Or maybe I don't like diet Coke! Lol...highly recommend, especially when the band is playing...all the songs that make you want to dance!

Google
The view here, amazing! The service that Faith B gave us, great! The rest, eh. My wife and I both ordered shepherds pie. After several minutes we were informed that they were out. I ended up with the Reuben which was good. I also opted for the garlic green beans with the $2 upcharge instead of the coleslaw that I was also considering. When my food came out, the mixed veggies looked off for "garlic green beans" and once Faith returned to the table (she didn't deliver the food) I was informed that they were out of garlic green beans. They offered me another side at no extra charge if mixed veggies wasn't good. When we got our bills, the upcharge for my non existent green beans was still there. We were informed that the mixed veggies were an even higher upcharge so therefore the $2 had to stay, "per the manager." Considering I was thinking of getting the $0 upcharge cole slaw if I hadn't ordered green beans, I wasn't too happy. Also on the bill, the 18% gratuity was already added. We are a party of 2.... While 18% isn't bad and Faith was good, we had a specific reason to not need more than 15% on one of the bills and the auto charge messed that up. If you want a great view, assuming you sit along the ledge, this place is great, but I'm sure there are better places around that actually have what is on their menus.

Google
Always temper my expectations for places like this in a tourist-heavy area but had a surprisingly good experience here. Good selection of drinks, good happy hour deals. Only had chicken wings to eat, but they were top notch, especially if you get them grilled. The views are obviously unmatched so it’s nice that the rest of the experience goes along with that too.

Google
Food was average at best. Had spinach artichoke dip, which was more like a can of spinach with a sprinkle of Parmesan. No cheese or artichokes noticeable. Wings were very small and overcooked until the point of being dried out. Then went to use the bathroom and saw this toilet, which I may have overlooked a bit if we hadn’t been four of only six people in the restaurant. Will not be coming back again.

Google
We weren't very impressed with the food. The service and seating experience was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered three cocktails which were okay. I wouldn't necessarily order cocktails there again. The appetizer we ordered was the Nachos. It had an odd sauce on it that made every get soft and soggy. For the main course we ordered the Thai Shrimp Tacos, the Grilled Mahi Tacos and the Con Murphy's Burger. The Thai Shrimp Tacos had a very bland taste and the Burger was very disappointing. I didn't taste the Mahi Tacos, but I can assure you that the person who ordered it didn't enough it. Overall, not the greatest seafood place. Pretty sure we won't be going back.

Google
Omg- their grilled grouper tacos are FIRE. For our vacation I came here three to four times just for their grouper tacos. I also enjoy their fries and the house salad is delightful. Definitely worth the stop. The views are gorgeous and just an easy place to chill.

Yelp
Great food and location and service. Daily specials. Seats overlook the beach. Cold beer

Yelp
Great spot. Amazing views of the ocean and a cool ocean breeze. I sat at the bar and was taken car of by Passion and Pat. Both are fun bartenders and very courteous and knowledgeable. Everything from the margarita to dinner was crazy good. Oysters, crab dinner. All delicious. Price was super fair for such a cool spot. I'll be back and I definitely suggest you give it a shot. Plus they validate your parking ticket. Nice job.

Yelp
Con Murphy's is a decent bar and restaurant. It's probably more of a bar but we came for both and the food was quite good. We came for late brunch and the chicken and waffles was huge and delicious. Our server was amazing and took great care of us, although it was a pretty quiet time and only a few other tables were seated. Given the vibe of the place, the prices were high, even for a beachfront establishment. With that said, we were happy with our visit and would go back if we find ourselves in the area again.

Yelp
Came for a late night snack w a group of friends. Seated immediately and the place is nice. Outside. Sports bar type w an ocean view. I had a lychee martini. Super strong and I'm not a skyy vodka fan but it was good. Potato skins were ok. Oysters were good. I shared the fried chicken sandwich with loaded tots. Delicious. Chicken sandwich was sooooo good and the loaded tots were amazing We ended w a key lime pie which was one of the best we've tried. We came back last night bc the food is just so good and the vibe is great. Peel and eat shrimp were amazing and grouper fingers were literally melt in your mouth delicious. Avoid mojitobar. That place was trash. Made me sick.

Yelp
Con Murphys was the perfect kick off to our vacation. We were feeling good and needed some nibbles to get the evening going. It was empty for a Friday evening, but it was also perfect. The waiter took great care of us and we had the best view. We ordered lychee martini, gin and tonic, margaritas, blueberry mojito and tequila shots over the course of two days (because we doubled back the next day). We also tried the house seasoned wings, loaded potato skins, fried grouper bites, fries, and spinach dip. Everything was 10/10 except the spinach dip which was awfully bland and the Teremana Tequila shots tasted watered dowwwnnnn. Enjoy the pictures because it was gooooood lol

Yelp
Attended this bar after the panthers parade and it was so much fun. Bar had music and service at the bar was very quick. Only downfall was that there was a cover charge of $20 for a specific section at the bar even after the parade had ended. Loved that it had a view to the beach. Would return to try some food and enjoy the views.

Yelp
First stop on our Ft Laud Strip Pub Crawl. We had to try the buffalo wings with blue cheese and hot sauce in the side. The wings which were on the Wednesday happy hour menu for $1.00 each with ten minimum. In addition to the wings, we ordered a Vodka Soda Water and a Bud Light. 2 for 1 well drinks and $4.00 Bud Light. The drinks were prepared quickly and the wings arrived within five minutes. The wings were the largest in size that ive ever seen - really was. My wife thought they were kinda chewy but I loved them. The second story view of the beach and ocean were spectacular with a cool breeze. The bathroom had a cement floor, black/white tiles walls and was clean.
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
We sat at the bar in this Irish pub with an open view to the ocean. Irish name but more of a surf theme with a large Santa Claus at the door - not sure about the Santa. Great happy hour specials including $1.00 wings and 2 for 1 well drinks. I ordered ten wings and a vodka soda. The wings flavor were tangy good but slightly chewy for my taste but wildly huge. The drink was stiff so I was happy. Stayed for an hour and smiled every time I looked at the ocean which also provided a nice cool breeze even on this hot day.

Yelp
The food tasted great. The vibes was pretty good and beautiful view. The service was on point and although packed the food came in a reasonable timeframe.
google avatar

Yelp
Great views, great vibes! There's nothing better than an affordable bottomless mimosa by the water, and this spot delivers. The service was good, and the deals make it even better. Perfect place to relax, sip, and enjoy the scenery. Definitely a go-to for a fun brunch!
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Best deal in the area! If you sit at the bar, they have great all day happy hour deals on crispy wings, lots of apps, and beer/cocktails. It is open air, not air conditioned and there are limited fans, but depending on the day/evening, it's pretty comfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
Only not giving 5 stars because the service could have been so much better. Everything else was amazing. We started in the panthers pub crawl here and sat at a table for an hour and a half and nobody ever came to us. We went to the bar for our drinks but would have ordered more and ordered food if someone would have acknowledged us. We decided to come back and give it another chance after the pub crawl was over. The food was incredible. I had the grouper tacos. Amazing. My friend loved her wings too. But again, even though it was less busy, our drinks sat empt for a long time before anyone noticed. We were would have ordered many more. The atmosphere is great. Especially for a bar on the beach, as a local, I don't feel like it's too touristy or that I'm being ripped off. As someone who is Irish, I will say this bar is very far from Irish lol. Not even close. It's an American restaurant but that's fine, we had a great time. The DJ was great. The prices are awesome. And the view is incredible. Better than many of the bars that are charging a premium for the view! They need to step it up with the service and this would be a great place for locals to hang out!
google avatar

Todd G.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and we ordered the Shepard's Pie and a Reuben. The presentation was good but the food fell short in flavor. Also ordered an Irish coffee but it fell short of expectations as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Great location! This place is on the second floor close to other bars and restaurants and shopping. It has a great view over looking Fort Lauderdale beach. We were able to get a table right next to the balcony which was perfect because you get the view plus fresh air but it's still covered. We ordered the BBQ chicken flatbread, sweet chili shrimp tacos, and the blackened grouper sandwich. All three were so delicious! The flatbread was nice and crispy with a lot of bbq sauce, would order again. The shrimp tacos were PACKED with shrimp. It was a little hard to eat as a taco so I just ate the shrimp mostly by itself until there were only a few pieces left and then ate as a taco. The sweet chili was almost like a glaze on the shrimp, might be my favorite shrimp tacos ever! The grouper sandwich was also so good. It tasted fresh, perfectly blackened and nice and flakey. All the staff were helpful and friendly, definitely will be back!

Yelp
We have enjoyed Con Murphy's in the past. Yesterday, Dan and I split a sandwich. One slice of toast was burnt. They served it with the burnt side down so we didn't see that when they brought it to us. Otherwise we would have sent it back. We didn't notice until we started eating it and wondered what that unpleasant taste was. At that point, we didn't want to take the time to send it back. We had a discount card from our hotel. They gave the discount to our friends and not us. I doubt we will eat at con Murphy's the rest of our vacation this time.
google avatar

Sally J.

Yelp
The door staff was super rude. We realize it's St Patty's day but come on! The guy at the front told us to "find a seat" and we did. The door person was hateful and stated we needed to wait. We sat at the table and Sebastian waited on us and he was fantastic. The hateful door girl tried to cover he previous bull sh*t but we were done with her. Luckily Sebastian saved the night. We saw two tables walk out without paying oh my Karma is a bit*h That's what you get
google avatar

Yelp
Strong local pub, not as Irish as the name suggestions but its in a great location, overlooking the Fort Lauderdale strip and beach. It was loud and noisy, we could barely hear our server and the bar was busy. Rap music intermingled with country tunes, interesting choice. Food was great, drinks were fast. Had the Potatoe skins for an appetizer and they were excellent. Not the preheated frozen kind. The Blackened Grouper was a swing and a miss. It was not blackened but drizzled with a hot sauce and a bit undercooked. The fries were not remarkable. Server was excellent and deserved credit for making the visit worthwhile. Drinks were good. Wait staff were excellent Location is strong, hey its Ft Lauderdale beach. Food was sub-par. Overall I'm going with just OK; but better than the other options in the area.
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
Gorgeous location! View of the water and some guiness' first pour was the bottom of the barrel and not good tasting we asked them to switch the keg and the second was much better! We didn't have any food! It's outside so it does get hot if no breeze! No free parking around so be prepared to pay. Service was good
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Friendly, fast and efficient bartenders. The $8 bbq pork sliders I had at the bar for happy hour were delicious as well as the mango margarita. This bar also overlooks the ocean on the second floor which is a huge plus.
google avatar

Savanna A.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here to enjoy a happy hour. I'm not sure if it was because of spring break- but our waitress was so drunk we had to get up and leave (after paying for our beer). She kept bumping into our table and slurring all of her words. It seemed like a great place and the hostess was so kind but honestly our waitress ruined the whole experience, I hope your time here is better than ours was.
google avatar

Rochelle T.

Yelp
It's ok. Don't expect a 'resto/sports bar ' type of atmosphere (it's pretty 'open'----too open for my taste). When we went there, it just rained so there were puddles of rain water in the dining area (not bec of leaky roofs but bec of the huge windows that surround the Resto). There's no A/C, just huge fans---so since it's post-rain, it was hot, humid and muggy (the bathrooms were HEAVEN bec of there's A/C in there). Food was average, although we can DEF say that the chicken quesadillas were AWESOME. The wings, fish and chips, grouper bites and fries were average.
google avatar

Becca S.

Yelp
A very surprising and great meal from an Irish pub. We were able to get the fish tacos blackened and it did not disappoint! Definitely recommend the food and the views.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
Went for the wings deal. Food is typical bar food but views are great. Service is average but the views are great. Don't set expect too high, except for the views as the ocean is just across the street. So very average except the views!!
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
Both the food and service were disappointing. Definitely don't get the seafood pasta -- the scallops were chewy and inedible. The mahi was ok. Best thing about the place is the view.
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
Not sure what happened but after a couple drinks of my miami vice a chicken wing and a couple chips from a nacho plate I felt like someone punched me in the gut. Stomach had issues rest of day into night. Wings were $1 ea. very small and over cooked. Nachos were ok. Bartender Chris was great. The other one wanted to socialize not work. I was in a hurry so I didnt question it but charged me $7 for a $5 corona. Many other places to try.

Yelp
This is the place you want to be when visiting Fort Lauderdale Beach. They are located on the 2nd FL of a beautiful outdoor shopping plaza in the heart of Fort Lauderdale Beach right on A1A. I met up with my family here for lunch this past weekend. Although I made reservations for six, it doesn't seem like the wait would've been too long without any reservations. The view is amazing! If you can, sit at a table, facing the ocean, which is right across the street. You feel the breeze coming through as you eat delicious food on the beach. You can't beat that! I ordered the nachos as an appetizer for the table and a chicken sandwich for my main meal. Both were good and I would order again. This is a very clean open-spaced restaurant with plenty of room to move around. Looks nice aesthetically and helps that you get a perfect ocean view. Our waiter was friendly and a tentative. I should've came out pretty quickly, and everything was made to order. We parked in the garage inside of the shopping plaza where the restaurant is located, which is where I would recommend. There is also a parking garage right across the street as well. This is a must visit.
google avatar

Jorden S.

Yelp
One of the bartenders Jodi was extremely attentive and made sure at all times my experience was as amazing as possible. Thank you con Murphy's and thank you Jodi !!! Will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Carole P.

Yelp
Great service. Food was pretty good (shame on me for getting Mexican at an Irish pub, though, right?)... Com Murphys isn't the place for the best nachos. My search for those continues... But the atmosphere is great, the scenery is great... overlooking the ocean, lots of people watching, the drinks were great, the band was great. The prices were reasonable. Its a 4 from me

Jim M.

Yelp
Very good angus burger. My one brother had fish and chips and the other a barbecue sandwich and all were tasty and the service was very good
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
Grouper bites and popcorn shrimp were outstanding. Breaded chicken sandwich was only partially breaded and the breading fell off of the chicken. Fries were good Margaritas were very weak Service was great I would return

Carson A.

Yelp
Thai Shrimp Tacos were a 10/10 if you find your self in Fort Lauderdale and are looking for a good beach spot look no further! Also parking Garage 100 yards away for only $10 an hour!
google avatar

Barbara P.

Yelp
Casual and clean, ocean front sport bar, love their chicken wings!! The bartender is funy and makes a great job at taking care of you :)

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Service very poor. Very disappointed. It seemed like a nice place. Unfortunately the bartender was more into mingling with everyone but us. To see how engaging she was with everyone but us was unfortunate, but lesson learned. We clearly weren't her type of customer. $16 for an orange crush drink in a small glass is a rip off.
google avatar

Teresa W.

Yelp
We find ourselves in Ft Lauderdale frequently and have walked past this place numerous times and finally decided to try it out. We dined around 7;30pm on a Friday night and we're seated almost immediately without a wait. service was friendly and quick. We got a table with a good view of the beach. It was dark though so that didn't matter too much. But it was still great for people watching. I ordered the fish and chips and the hubby had the blackened chicken Alfredo. We both enjoyed our meals. The fish was crispy and flaky. The coleslaw and fries were also fresh and tasty. The hubby said his dish was good. The chicken wasn't dry and tasted better than the normal frozen restaurant chicken you usually get in those pastas. He was pleased. I didn't get any pics since it was dark. Prices weren't too bad either. This place is definitely good for a casual meal at a great location on the beach.
google avatar

Zerella S.

Yelp
Let me tellllll you something!! Adrian and Jodi were the best bartenders I could have ever encountered at a bar, not only were they consistent but they had great vibes. All my food came out amazing, and usually it's hard to impress me but I got like 4 dishes here is one photo. Rack of lamb, Easter special. I got shrimp cocktail, lemon pepper chicken wings, and chocolate pie and also a mixed drink for happy hour. I didn't expect such amazing service and great food. I definitely plan to come back here and bring my friends and future partner. Really amazing. Great staff all around. Bartenders made it feel homey and comfortable so asking about things on the menu was a breeze. 12/10!!
google avatar

Tim T.

Yelp
This place was really good, they have $5 happy hour margaritas and for the price they aren't bad. We also ordered the quesadilla and the nachos both were very good of course while drinking alcohol there's not much that doesn't have a good taste when y our hungry.. When in the area we will for sure stop in and have drinks and food again.
google avatar

Sherry R.

Yelp
It's Panthers parade day and their waitress w slanty eyelashes is a bitch, won't serve us bc we werent properly seated at HER table.
google avatar

Jackie A.

Yelp
Found yourself in Fort Lauderdale on a rainy day? No problem, con Murphy keeps the windows wide open so you can still pretend you are on the beach (fantastic view by the way!) and all your favorite digs will be on tv ! They had most of the nfl games playing on each tv, and all patrons were satisfied on a Sunday afternoon! The food and drink were great , and we will stop back if ever in town again!
google avatar

Michelle N J.

Yelp
Food was awesome, service was extraordinary, manager JoJo was a great guy and attentive our waiter Alejandro was the BEST!!! View was beautiful and just had an all around good experience!!!

Tabatha D.

Yelp
Food is good, great location and service is very friendly and efficient! My husband really liked the chicken sandwich and we were able to get a table with a great view.

Anne Marie T.

Yelp
Omg what a spot. Loved it! Best view in Fort Lauderdale! The service a 10 and if you're lucky you'll get Faith as your server. The grouper bites, eggs Benedict and never mind the drinks! All awesome. A neighborhood pour! You won't be disappointed! Totally recommend!
google avatar

Jimi J.

Yelp
Happy Hour(s) with my bartender Gina! A great day on the beach with great service, once again...

Mana M.

Yelp
Looking for something close to our hotel. Based on Yelp reviews we decided to go here. Great place. We had Faith as our server and she was funny and very sweet. We ordered wings, Philly cheesesteak and a Ruben. The wings were out of this world. We got the mango habanero flavor. Omg so good and they are the "whole" wing. If you like wings order some here. Never seen a place do that before. My sister was in heaven. The Philly cheesesteak was very good and a beautiful Caesar salad on the side. The Ruben was ok. The meat is what you would get at a deli sliced up. I was hoping for real corned beef. The fries were super good. All the food came out dry hot. If you are hungry this is a place to try. Fabulous view too. Thanks Faith for making our dinner fun.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Had the most beautiful morning here! I had an absolutely delicious grilled mahi sandwich (I love it when places will let you order lunch early) and my husband had a nice spinach omelette. Bottomless drinks, great service with waiter Anthony, and a gorgeous view of the ocean. I bet watching football games here would be perfect. We'll be back.

Alyssa W.

Yelp
best rueben i've ever had. corned beef was so tender and juicy. the chicken sandwich was amazing as well.
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
Very close to the Sebastian Street beach, so perfect for a takeout lunch. Only took about 10-15 minutes after ordering. And much nicer than chomping Taco Bell on the beach! Blackened Fish Tacos: Technically an appetizer, but you get 3 tacos packed with fish. Like maybe even more fish than restaurants that focus on tacos. Loved the mango salsa, really made it feel beach-y whilst eating on the beach. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich & Fries: It's no Popeye's chicken sandwich, but that's an insanely high bar. Pretty solid fried chicken sandwich for an Irish joint. Thin batter, but crispy. Nice dense meaty chicken. The bacon on top was an indulgent touch, not seen on many fried chicken sandwiches! The fries had spiced batter, which made them crispier than regular fries. Though they felt saltier than regular fries.
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
Anyone looking for a place and is out of town, THIS IS THE PLACE. - From a Michigander Wow, thank goodness I read the great reviews for this place. I was almost subjected to the 2.5 star Mexican place down the street, but stumbled on this Irish pub. One of the best Shepards pie I have had in YEARS. I try to make my own, but it does not compare to the tender lamb and amazing flavors within the pie. My server was Mae and she was very attentive and friendly. I had two beers, and a Shepards pie in under 45 minutes. I ate solo but still was an amazing experience. I sat right by the water with breath taking views.
google avatar

Taryn S.

Yelp
This is a great little beach restaurant! We came here on vacation in Fort Lauderdale while we waited to check in to our hotel, and it was a great place to spend the afternoon and kill time. You get an amazing view of the ocean from this second-story restaurant and you immediately feel like you're on vacation. The music was great and I loved my mojito. I ordered the grouper sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful it was. Usually grouper sandwiches are very bland but this one was very tasty. We also passed by this place later in the evening and it was full of people and looked super fun. Would definitely come back next time I'm on vacation and need a quick bite

Lindsey R.

Yelp
Food was TERRIBLE. I ordered a chicken sandwich and it was so tough and dry I couldn't eat it. Potato skins were also flavorless. Would not recommend
