Concezione Restaurant

"This minimalist-style restaurant is home to one of the most interesting young chefs in Catania. In this historic building with beautiful ceilings, enjoy top-quality Sicilian cuisine created by Manuel Tropea, who focuses in particular on specialities from Catania which he interprets in a highly personalised way with a real focus on tradition. Dishes such as “L’Asina e la lattuga” and “Good morning in Catania” are good examples. The chef’s surprise menu takes guests on a culinary journey full of contrasts which is inspired by his own memories and experiences." - Michelin Inspector

Our visit to the restaurant captures a creative Sicilian culinary experience. The chef masters in desserts and prepares dishes in a beautiful way. That said the service and food in general, unfortunately, did not meet our standards to a luxurious restaurant given the cost. For example, there were no hand wipes, even though we were presented with quite a lot of finger foods. We were also rushed for a couple times when ordering and when switching dishes. In addition, maybe we have higher standards from visiting restaurants around the world, the food here definitely disappoints our expectation. The presentation was great, but taste was mediocre at best. There are also many “hidden costs” that we learned only when checking out. We would appreciate a clearer communication upfront. Altogether, we believe there are rooms for improvement on many aspects, especially given the cost.

The 7 course meal with the four wine pairing was nothing short of amazing. Chef Tropea knows his way around the kitchen and offers such a diverse palette of food choices and tastings.

My wife and I had a 10 course dinner for my birthday and Chef Manuel Tropea and his staff definitely delivered and we enjoyed every minute of each course. The decor, ambiance and service were outstanding. Each dish told a story and embodied layers of flavors which kept our palates guessing and craving more. An incredible experience to say the least and I was surprised with a homemade birthday cake during the course of dinner. Hats off to the Chef and his team for making this an unforgettable moment in our lives that we will forever cherish - Thank you. Well done!!!

We had an incredible 10-course meal here, with every dish paired perfectly with wine. The Sicilian-inspired flavors were really impressive, and while not every dish was my favorite, many were exceptional. The service was fantastic too, with the chef coming over at the end, which was a nice touch. The highlight for me was one of the desserts, a surprising combination of fermented cucumber, perfectly balancing bold and refreshing flavors. The cappuccino was also a total surprise—no coffee involved! The whole experience was creative and definitely worth it. As for the location, it’s a bit tucked away. I recommend driving for ease, with street parking available in the area. If you’re walking, make sure to go straight from the Roman Amphitheater and turn left, so you don’t end up in the less appealing parts of the neighborhood.

We really enjoyed our meal last night. Having a Birds Eye view of the kitchen was an interesting addition to the experience. We tried the 7 course tasting menu. I’m a vegetarian and that wasn’t a problem. Stand out for me was the look of the dishes, they were delicate and pretty. The different breads and tomato flavoured butter was excellent. The pre starters were delicious. Tomato ice cream was a real surprise and I loved it. All the courses were enjoyable. The waiting staff were attentive and informative. The chef took time to introduce himself to us. The passion for food and local ingredients is obvious.I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Me and my partner went here on a date night, and it was a good introduction to catanese cuisine through the chef’s interpretation. We took the 5 course tasting menu and we were both full by the end of it, but not uncomfortably full, more like desirably full, even tho we both thought we would leave hungry, the chef made sure that wasn’t the case. There’s many choices 14, 10, 7, 5 courses tasting menu and even a la carte menu, but with order of minimum 3 courses. We were started with an entree/starter that was among many things, also some mini tacos as you’ll see in the pictures. Each dish had its own description and story behind it, we appreciated the waiters for always being prompt to cleaning the table and filling our glasses, plus really fast cleanup of the dishes from the table. I just say, the tomato butter was one of the best butters i’ve ever had in my life, it was packed with tomato flavor and citrusy taste, perfect balance for the battery flavor. The service was impeccable. I really appreciated how the chef came by at the end of the meal to everyone to say thank you and get some opinions on his vision, he was to be one of the nicest chefs i’ve interacted with, even if there was a language barrier, the waiter translated and we got to offer our thanks to him for the special night and also for letting us taste his interpretation and vision on sicilian and catanese dishes. I would say it’s a must if you’re in Catania.

An amazing hidden gem. We had the 10 course vegetarian tasting menu and the level of flavour in each dish was incredible. Vegetarian food at this level is hard to come by. The morning ‘cappuccino’ and ravioli pasta were two highlights, and the service was very personal. Meeting the chef, Manuel, was a real treat too.

We chose the 5 course menu and 3 wine pairings and the menu was definitely something we had never had before and very much a unique experience. I would say that a few of the dishes were a little outside my comfort zone and I wasn’t sure some flavours went together, for example, the delicious raw Sicilian fish paired with a tomato sorbet which was very strong in flavour overpowering the fish. And the first course was very sweet, so much so I couldn’t eat it all as it was a little sickly. The service and the ambience was amazing though and I’d highly recommend if you want to try something different.
