"Offering a nice list of bottled and draught beers in a homey, fun environment, Concordia Ale House feels more like a neighborhood restaurant that happens to have a killer beer selection. American comfort food and themed nights help maintain the vibe: The best is Tuesday nights, when the majority of bottled beers are just $2." - Alex Frane

FYI don't trust any information to be accurate on the website that is linked. I'm late to this party, BUT there was a time when this bar had a great bottled beer selection, a portion of which would be on sale at $2, $2.50, and $2.75 every Tuesday. It was absolutely the best deal in the area. After a change in ownership, pinball machines were replaced with video lotto, pool tables were removed, and if you ask for a bottle on the bottle list the bartender will look confused. The pool tables were eventually replaced and the food is about as good as it ever was so if you won't miss $2 Tuesdays, I'm sure it's perfectly fine.

Came in as I was in the area. For first time in a long time. New owners .Wow! Excellent Happy Hour menu! Free pool on Sundays. Even breakfast on the weekends. Biscuits and gravy so good. Check out small businesses always. Will be back.

Beat sports bar in NE Portland. Underrated aspect of this bar. Plus they brought the pool tables back so I gave them 5 stars for atmosphere. Did you know they served breakfast? Well they do and it hits the spot. (You’re welcome 😉)

I visited for the first time during Portland Mercury's Wing Week 2021, to try the Bikini Bottom Wings (pictured). They were good! Baked in a pineapple marinade, flash fried, tossed in a poke sauce, and topped with cilantro. Unless you specifically choose to eat any slices of raw jalapeno, in my opinion, they are actually only mildly spicy, but are lightly sweet and maybe just a hint salty from the pineapple and poke sauce. The service was excellent; friendly, professional, prompt, and accommodating. The Ale House was fairly busy, when I was there, around 5pm, but the short line ahead of me was served, efficiently. I really liked the music that was playing - kind of mellow, electronic alternative. "Up On Melancholy Hill" by The Gorillaz, is an example. Just a very pleasant, chill vibe. Nice. Amazing little space in the middle of nowhere! Wonderful bartender with a gorgeous mane of hair! We went for the Mercury ;-) and it was absolutely amazing! This is a must go to little hole in the wall that you'll truly enjoy.

Visiting Portland for holiday weekend. Found this place because we wanted to watch a football game. The food was amazing! Some had breakfast, some lunch, everything was ohhh sooo good! Great beer list, too!! Homemade corned beef hash, hard to find!

Google
Hidden but an amazing spot for a relaxing vibe with a beer. Play a game or two on the slots machine too if you want.

Google
Great pool tables, lots of drink options and amazing food. They need to update their website and the menu online.

Justin V.

Yelp
Good, larger than average beer selection. Well executed bar food and worthwhile specials. Has pool tables, WiFi and breakfast.

Ang C.

Yelp
Daytime bartender skipped me and my teammates songs on TouchTunes when we were playing league one night. I don't recommend wasting your money on that so get ready to listen to shitty music.

Yelp
This is my neighborhood bar and I've been coming here every now and then for 10+ years. I believe they're on their 3rd owner in this time span and unfortunately it just keeps going downhill. Much of which I believe is because they turned half of the bar into lotto machines, which doesn't attract the best crowds. It used to be a place where you could go and get some reasonably priced food and watch a game but now they're charging $16 for a subpar burger. Really wish they'd just focus on a smaller menu and doing it right at a reasonable price.

Kim B.

Yelp
The French dip sandwich was horrible. The meat was sliced too thick and it tasted horrible. Ordered fries got onion rings which they placed directly on an open sandwich. Who does that. Close the sandwich and place the side beside the sandwich.

K H.

Yelp
New owner. The food is great now. lPus they are open for breakfast. I am going there often again.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Portland Or great beer great service and their foods amazing, Brew Brawl

Yelp
I came across these old pictures that I took and I remember this place as a great place to chill and have a craft beer, or more! This place has dozens and dozens of beers to choose from, so this is definitely a place to go if you love craft beer and are in Portland. I believe I was on my way to the airport when I stopped here.

Mike M.

Yelp
Great spot. Awesome food and staff is very friendly. Makes it feel like a home away from home. Well if my home had a bunch of TVs, 2 nice pool tables, a great beer selection and better food. Ok fine its better than home.

Ronnie S.

Yelp
Love this place, people are nice and the bartender are so knowledgeable about the drinks. Please go check

Yelp
They have a major problem with customers getting roofied. It happened to my friend just last week, and after talking to others I know who spend time here, it is a reoccurring problem. Luckily nothing happened more than her passing out and getting very sick, but that was after only two beers. We reported it to the manager. He said he knew, and that it has been reported many times recently, but he isn't willing to do anything more than "keep an eye out". Get a security guard already! For your own safety, DO NOT go here.

Jimmy R.

Yelp
Me: "I've never been here before. Is this where I can order food?" Bartender (reeking of pot): "Uh, I guess so ... if you wanna." Me: "Yes, I'd like to order some food." Bartender: "Can I get you a beer?" Me: "I'd like to order some FOOD. Can I please see a MENU?" Bartender: "I guess so." This place could not be more unwelcoming to new customers. Hard pass.

Banana S.

Yelp
This has always been one of my favorite bars . AMAZING workers and the people in the neighborhood aren't to bad either . I'm so happy that they are staying afloat during covid and that they are offering their great food . They keep it clean I'm always seeing Jerry or Troy spraying and wiping . Thank you guys .

Yelp
I came here on my day off to enjoy a cheap lunch and a beer and got exactly what I wanted. I stumbled across this place when I was shopping at the New Seasons across the street and saw that there was a bar across the street. I used my handy dandy Yelp app to see what their specials were, and since I was starving it was a perfect match. During their happy hour the lunch specials are only 3.75 and I got a big plate of chicken nachos in return. The food was freshly made and for the price I paid it was a pretty good deal. I was too lazy to make something at home, and for the price and quality I got I was pleased. I also got a Terminal Gravity IPA which was only two dollars, since apparently on Tuesdays they have two dollar bottles. The service was good and the lady who was helping me (Megan?) was friendly and quick. My food came out in less than ten minutes, and I was greeted at the door and told what their specials were that day. Definitely a step up from other places in Portland where the service is notorious for being terrible. I'll be coming back here to sample their other offerings, but as of now I am happy with Concordia Ale House. I'll be back soon.

Yelp
Good thing I live several miles from this place, or I'd be spending plenty of time (& some money) here. Everything you want a neighborhood bar to be. The beer selection is excellent, a little more emphasis on hops and less on odd & special brews, though they have a few, plus sample a good variety of brews. solid quality food--the halibut was 3 nice big chunks, not greasy, thin breading. Had a burger in the past and enjoyed it. Very friendly and knowledgeable service. Plus the place has a funky, down-home feel, aided by the weird lay out--two doors on different, so the space is like a right-angle V. come on by.

Steve H.

Yelp
Concordia Ale House is a bit of a haul from my own neighborhood, and there are a number of places with respectable taps in my area. Despite this fact, I find myself making the trek to Concordia every now and then. In other words, I come here on purpose, so I obviously must like the place. There are over 20 rotating draft beer selections--usually always including a few awesome IPAs and double IPAs (I'm a whore for those). They often have rather obscure offerings that you see just anywhere. They've also got an extensive import and domestic bottle selection--as good as many bottle shops. Food is your typical pub grub, done in typical fashion. I am rather partial to the Hades wings. The Hades sauce isn't hot AT ALL in my view, but it's quite tasty (which is why I crave it). I realize the whole "hot" thing is highly relative, and I like things hotter than most. So if it helps, I think the el jefe wings at Fire on the Mountain are pretty hot, but more than manageable. This place is super casual and cozy. TV with some sort of sport on. Two pool tables. Plenty of tables to eat at. I'd give it five stars, but the service can get a little slow when it's packed (not because the staff are slackers, but because they end up a little under-staffed). But what makes this place rather unique is how it demonstrated to me, for example, that despite our Oregon pride in our quality craft brew tradition, California has recently been kicking our ass in the beer department. And who has the audacity to make such a claim in the Rose City? Why the beer fans of Portland themselves! And why would they do such an unpatriotic thing? Because they participated in one of Concordia's blind taste tests, and picked their favorites, only to find to their horror that they were from California (eek!). Yeah. Concordia Ale House is fond of beer tastings. In the near future it's a tasting of beers of Colorado. Maybe it'll be beers from Bend, OR, or Southern California. Or maybe it'll be a contest (Oregon v. California, as described above). What does this tell us? The folks at Concordia are serious about good beer. And if you are also serious about good beer, you should come drink beer here, like I do.

Yelp
I'm really glad my neighborhood spot is surviving. However, this is 2nd weekend that I've gone in to watch my NFL team play and without the package I can't watch the game - so I leave. I'd love to bring more business on the weekends but without my game I'm not coming. Please buy the NFL package!

Alexandria J.

Yelp
Always love coming here. Good drinks and decent food. They always have football on! The only thing I miss is how kids used to be allowed in and now they aren't. We still make it in after kickball but not like we used to. I look forward to going here every fall season!

Mal H.

Yelp
Went here twice while I was in Portland with a friend. The first time we went we got the two dollar breakfast sandwiches and bloody Mary's and they were good but the server left our sandwiches sitting there for like 10 mins, lwhile chatting with a customer. Didn't really matter to us though because it was so worth it for two dollars, we even came back the next day and this time the server got our food right to us steaming hot. They have really good hot sauce called aardvark, and it makes the food a good spicy. Not sure how long they will have the deal for so go check it out! You will not be disappointed seriously

Amber S.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time: 1) super friendly customer service 2) awesome list of beer/cider 3) delicious food 4) parking lot Highly!!! Recommend!!!

Brandon B.

Yelp
We showed up here for my friend's birthday. I live in the neighborhood and come here often. We walked in and waited for a long time and never got served. Finally, someone walked in after finishing their cigarette and didn't even bother to help us. Still ignored us and kept tending to other people that still had full drinks... Well we finally waited too long that we decided to go to another place. What a let down, used to get great service here. Won't be back.

Patti K.

Yelp
Horray for breakfast! Hash browns! WOOHOO! Yeah, I'm posting a review for BREAKFAST for an ale house (aka bar), and I'm proud to do it. There's a good selection of vegetarian items on the menu, food portions are very generous, and yeah, the food is good. You can either sit at the bar, at a table, or outside - but the place is HUGE. They don't draw a huge breakfast/brunch crowd - which is fine by me, no waiting = I get to sit, order and eat quicker than just about anywhere else.

Yelp
CAH used to be an institution. An amazing beer selection with well prepared pub food. I'd go out of my way to go there from downtown at times. It was a destination spot in Portland for many who enjoy beer and pubs in general. That's no longer the case. And in the last 2 years the service, food and even beer selections have tanked drastically. The food is the worst decline though. Inedible many instances. And it sucks. Because having a good local tavern to watch a game or just grab a few drinks and chill out after work is an essential component of a Portland neighborhood. Especially in Winter. Ironically, I've lived in Concordia now for going on 5 years. I'm 4 blocks away and I never go anymore. The food has declined drastically. The service is abysmal most nights, or they're doing their very best as servers but are chronically understaffed. That makes it even more uncomfortable because I have empathy for the servers, but I'm still waiting around endlessly. You'll wait 20 minutes to get a menu or even get a beer unless you sit at the bar and even then it's hit or miss. So sadly I can't recommend a place I used to travel across town to go to. Now that I live so close it's even more of a bummer to experience its rapid decline.

Gina L.

Yelp
This neighborhood ale house has been one of our favorite go tos throughout our 12 years of living within walking distance. After today's experience, we won't be returning. Menu recently chaged- prices went up and portions got smaller. Server forgot items from our order. Kids ordered mac and cheese from the kids menu and their new sauce has tiny chunks of tomatoes in it. (Gross- kids wouldnt touch it). Kids food came with a drink but what we ordered for them to drink (root beer) wasn't included as an option and our server didn't tell us. Beer selection was sub par. With all of the choices in our neighborhood, there are literally 50 other kid friendly places that we can walk to and spend $70 for lunch. We will go somewhere else next time, totally over this place.

Lorisin W.

Yelp
Cool place that had lambic on tap. Stopped in for a quick drink walking to the Alberta Arts District.

Kaiao N.

Yelp
Being a Concordia Alum this place is all about nostalgia for me. Had a Hef a bottle of sessions and a golden ale called "Big Booty." The "Big Booty" tasted a lot like Kona Brews "Big wave." When I asked for 2 "Big Booties" the bartender asked me "have you had a "Big Booty" before?" And I thought to my self .... well .... I've had some bi.... oh she means the beer!!! ... "no I have not had a "Big Booty before" she then proceeded to tell me "Do you want a sample of the Big booty before you get the whole thing?" Good to know that you can get a sample of the "Big Booty" or any other types of beer they have. Also that's 7 times I used "Big Booty" in this review. And I've now used "Big booties" twice.

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Great service and HUGE beer selection. We went on a Tuesday during their $2 beer special - impressed again with how many beers were on the specials list! Bartender, Tracy, was incredibly personable and accommodating. This is our first time in Portland and he made us feel right at home. Highly recommend to anyone in the area! Oh, and they have a changing table in the bathroom - parenting win!

Doug M.

Yelp
On weekends they seem to be perennially understaffed and the cook is very hit and miss. I like to come here because of the many TVs and they offer a good breakfast - at least on paper. But it can be excruciatingly slow to be served unless you sit at the bar. Usually because there's only one person serving at the bar and the tables - usually very friendly but very behind with orders and service. Yesterday it was the Civil War football game on the Pac-12 Network which means a good number of neighbors can only see it in the bar. They still had a single server. Not staffing up for the Civil War means you just don't care or don't know what you're doing. Sometimes the food is good, but on weekends the cook can be sloppy. My hamburger yesterday was a hot mess because he made up for being behind on orders by undercooking the burger. I used to come here Sundays for breakfast but got tired of undercooked eggs. It makes no sense to wait to complain because you rarely get to see the server after your order comes. It's a great place in a great location but they need more help.

Ryan N.

Yelp
The name "Concordia Ale House" sounds - I don't know- a bit stuffy and fancy for this L shaped pub. So, from this point forward I will call it "Steve". A beer collection as impressive as Steve's makes me want to run around NE Portland wearing a KFC bucket over my head while gaily shrieking and playing peek-a-boo. I won't even get into what I want to do on Two Dollar Tuesdays (but it involves a slip-N-slide.). Where was I? The beer. Steve has exceptional taste in beer and has about twenty unusual and faboo beers on tap, alongside a wide selection of bottled beers. Can I talk to Steve alone for a moment? Listen up Steve. My love stops at the beer. You mean well. And you are trying. But you just don't seem to get it. Just look around- you have no atmosphere. Come on guy! You have as much ambiance as the stereotypical "bachelor pad'. The awkward table placement? The kids? The unnecessary and out of place game room? The lack of decent music? Seriously, let's talk about the whole music thing. This is Portland. We are into our music as much as we are into our beer, so could you pretty please invest in a good sound system and get somebody with musical taste to help you out? And no, the radio in the kitchen does not count Steve. I'm sorry to harp on this point, but drinking a fabulous beer in a sterile cafetorium like setting is worse than piss in my Cheerios. Ya know? I know this sounds like a bitch session Steve. It is not. Consider this your intervention. We all love you. Please- ditch the game room. Consider ways to make the dining area feel more like a living room. Hire a few more servers. Kill the kids (not literally). And lastly, keep up the good work on the beer. Come here Steve. Let's hug it out.

Julie M.

Yelp
Some of my best beer-afficianado friends love the place. I'm lukewarm, going really only for location, decent food, and Meet the Brewer nites. (I enjoyed the crusty smoky old Et Cetera Tavern - way better, where locals were WELCOME - and met with a SMILE - even if food was non-existant to horrid) The Concordia has better than average food for a Pub - you can actually invite non-beer-snob friends who have lunch or dinner as their main idea. You can rely on finding a stellar brew here. Taps rotate, and there's a full Beer Fridge with windows accessible to prying eyes. So explore a bit before deciding, to broaden your palette. Staff know that means you'll be back, even if they're sorta mean to you. Nites they've had music were just plain weird...someone with skills needs to do the Booking, and set up sound appropriately, and it could Rock the 'hood, as the Et Cetera formerly did. This is one place I wish a Server would acknowledge my presence with a nod, as I walk up, even if they are already busy, because if I have to stand around awkwardly at that bar one more time for more than 5 minutes, wondering if the wait for attention will last an hour - and feeling ready to elbow everyone else away, wanting a little attention for Beer purposes....well dangit, you know what I mean. Where else in town can you get this kind of Purveyor indifference when your passion really is a superb match for their quality Pint s? I hate being Invisible, and to have to twist arms for a little friendliness or service. But here I have. And after a few YEARS of stamina, I actually had a Server act something other than tepidly cool. So what - if the Server is just possibly better than me at being a Beer Bitch? I'm not impressed. Just SELL me a freakin beer, ok? I DO appreciate and Tip for Server friendliness, information and Banter...but only one time felt that was a reason here...and really, men friends got that ambiance going. It's worth going on Meet the Brewer nights and events, but you will need to be assertive - find out who the Brewer is, and horn your way in to say Hello, or it will seem like a non-event. Ask the Server to tell you what Brews they are Introducing/Sampling, or you may never know, even if the Brewer is in the room. Most BrewPubs use a Chalkboard for this crucial info...and make current Beer list more easily available. Server, please - would it kill you to offer a friendly nod my way when i approach the Service Bar? I don't like paying higher than average beer prices for such indifference toward Patrons. Last, I hope you recognize someone here, cuz it's not exactly Cheers. Updated April 2011. I seem to be recognized but, someday I hope someone calls out: HAY THERE JULES - you gotta try these Barrel-Aged Brews!! Servers like that DO exist here in Beervana. Russ Menegat at the Green Dragon won a BUNG Award from the Oregon Brew Crew for being that sort of person. He walks quietly over to welcome when I arrive, naming the top 3 brews he knows I'll love, either on the list - or unlisted for limited release! Does this for others too. TY RUSS!! Others- please take a lesson.

Valerie W.

Yelp
Concordia Ale House is one of those places you wouldn't normally think of to grab a beer but it is so worth it! Consistant rotating taps of great beer plus numerous bottles. And I mean numerous. Like 100. The prices are great. Staff is great. Food is quite tasty as well. Very generous portions. My only qualm is that I ordered a taco sald with all the fixins. It was great except they used hamburger meat instead of ground beef. Wish I had known this upon ordering and I would have gotten chicken. I just ate around it. After a couple beers who really cares right? Their pork tacos are good though. Piled high with meat and toppings. Mmmm. More than enough food! Their menu has a lot of great options from huge salads, hamburgers, typical pub fare, dinner plates, and more. Come here to watch a game on multiple plasmas....play a game or two of pool....it's not a large place but it packs a punch!

Mac M.

Yelp
Concordia Ale House rocks! I was real impressed with the atmosphere, the service, the beer selection and the food. Thank goodness for Groupon or we never would have tried this place. 1st I did not know it existed & 2nd the Groupon deal made it worth the long drive. I had the French Dip & liked it a lot. The had quite a few great beers to choose from (some I have never seen on tap anywhere else). Other Info: Parking was so-so...They offer free pool everyday. Lots of seating. Great service. Big menu with lots of great items to choose from. Great Music...And TV's for watching Sports! I do think it was a little pricey, but the food was very good! Too bad there is not anything like this on the West side of Portland! Go There And Enjoy!!!!!

Andrew H.

Yelp
OK, mabye I was a little bit harsh last time. I came back for BEER BRAWL III. What is that, you ask? Well, you can get a sampler. This sampler is 100% mystery beers. All you know is you have: 3 Pale Ales 3 IPA's 3 Stouts 3 "wild cards" You then pick your favorite from each category and the results are tabulated. What.a.great.idea! Sorry guys "we" lost to WA by a mere 4 votes (a very little known, but very good brewery...my favorite in the NW called "Snipes" was one of the WA beers, which shocked me. Kudos to them!) CONFESSION: I expected CA to win, please don't "Stone"* me to death. Still it was a great time. One problem. I seem to have only taken photos of my BLANK ballot (and the glorious sampler too, of course). I neglected to shoot one of my actual selections. EPIC FAIL. I'll definitely be back here for future events, and OUT FOR VENGENCE on BRAWL EYE-VEE. Seriously guys, great idea, more of this in the future and I will bike my hiney up here more often. Also: Kudos to the staff who were incredibly cheery and even more PUMPED for the brawl than I was! *incredibly lame beer geek pun, thanks for playing

Paolina T.

Yelp
5 stars for beer selection. They even have all their beers listed on a screen. From there it is all downhill. I ordered a burger and had to return it to the kitchen. It must've been gray before they cooked it. It was spoiled. I was hungry, so I ordered the chicken nachos. What came out were cold chips half dressed with lukewarm liquid white cheese, jalapenos, cold shredded chicken, dash of shredded cheese and this weird looking topping that might've been salsa. Dining partner ordered quesadilla. Again, the weird looking salsa(?) came out with the quesadilla. I'll add a picture so perhaps you can tell me what the grey looking mess might be. The waitstaff has changed. Our waitress had a friend following her around to gossip and when her friend wasn't following her around, they were shouting across the restaurant, gossiping. Did this place change owners? Looking around, I should've done what everyone else did; order 1 beer and leave. Lesson learned. I am so sad. I always loved Concordia Ale house. I suppose I can still love it, for one beer and then leave.

Jesy B.

Yelp
I walked in with my friends, sat down and waited for our waitress. There were two other tables and a smattering of people at the bar, so pretty slow. So we waited. And waited. The single waitress we saw walked by us no less than five times to help the other tables but because we couldn't move fast enough, weren't able to catch her. 20 minutes later, she came over and cheerfully said, "I didn't realize you'd sat down!"...despite the fact we were right in between her other two tables. The bartenders are much better with the service. So the stars really go for the beer selection, which is quite extensive. The bar area is pretty neat too, so I'd opt for that if you're just in search of a beer and not food too. The food menu is decent and acceptable for pub food, but it didn't knock my socks off - if you go for anything, go for a burger.

Virlie B.

Yelp
We sat outside, no awnings to help get the sun out of your eyes, but hey, if you sit outside, you can bring your dog with you. Good burgers, okay price., okay waiters. took the 1 star out because they could easily put something to make it less blinding in that outside picnic table area.

Daniel H.

Yelp
My buddy had a Groupon for the Concordia Ale House, so we decided to try it for lunch. It was well worth the drive from the Westside. Our bartender/server was super friendly, (I didn't catch her name.) I arrived later than my friends, but as soon as I walked in the door she pointed me around the corner to where they were sitting. Their beer selection was outstanding--lots of local brews on tap, and several on nitro. I'm still on a quest for the best burger in Portland, and the basic burger with bacon and cheese at Concordia is definitely in the running. My buddies loved their sandwiches. Apparently the French Dip is stellar. Prices seemed a bit steep for pub food, (burger with bacon and cheese will set you back about $10,) but the quality is a bit better than standard pub food. Some other perks: Free WiFi, free pool everyday, Happy Hour starting at 3pm, and a Tuesday special that makes me want to come back on a Tuesday. I really wish this place wasn't so far away from Beaverton. Then again, maybe that's a good thing. I'd be here everyday. The only downside, (and it's just me being picky,) was the on-street parking. I don't know how the parking situation gets in the evenings or on weekends, but street parking often leaves me frustrated because I can never seem to find a spot. It was fine during lunch though.

Linda C.

Yelp
Busy for a Thursday night and a lively atmosphere. They were doing a Brew Brawl so many of the beers were on a blind tasting menu (Beer competition where four States battle it out for Beer Brawl VI honors) . I asked the server for something malty and she came back with two samples, one of which was a Stout (#9 on the blind taste menu). No idea what it was but it was bloody good!! Ordered a glass, and hubby went for Boneyard RPM IPA and Steelhead Double IPA (he enjoyed them both). Impressive tap and bottle list!! There were a few veggie options for dinner. Typical pub grub so we went for the veggie burgers - a Greek and a Smurf. The fries were great and the burgers were pretty good.

Amy S.

Yelp
Gotta leave a review for this place! Insanely nice staff, great prices and food. Was happily surprised this morning while walking my dog to find out they serve breakfast too! On the weekends at least. The beer selection is decently vast and! I tend to mix two beers together when I can't decide and this is the first place that suggested I do that when I was on the fence! I usually get weird looks haha at other bars when I ask. Nutcrusher porter on nitro with the framboise was what I had and it was like a dark PB&J and it was delicious. Strongly suggest watching football here too. Probably going to be my main spot for NFL this season since it's down the street from me!

Kelly S.

Yelp
Had a nachos and few German beers here. Both were good even if nacho cheese sauce was actually more like a béchamel sauce than the traditional yellow nacho cheese sauce. Not mad at it, we ate it, just different. German bottled beer--always good, they have been making it waaaay longer than American micro brewers! Fun very casual atmosphere

Yelp
25 years old and they wouldn't accept my WASHINGTON ID. Bartender was rude and a moron. Don't waste your time here

Yelp
A friend happens to live nearby, so we walked over. Cool place. A couple of pool tables, plenty of seating, and some pretty great taps. Probably not a place I'd make a special trip for, but well worth hitting if you're in the area.

Yelp
We stopped by while visiting the area looking for a local brew pub experience. They had a decent selection of beers available (posted on a flat screen TV) which they told us change around quite often. Only a few beers stay on the regular lineup. The big negative for us what how sterile the place looked. The sense of a "pub atmosphere" was almost nonexistent. The place could have just as easily have been a Mexican restaurant. It just lacked the sense of community we find at so many other ale houses and pubs.

Yelp
I love the beer selection more than ever, and the continuous string of special events like last night's Killer Green release party are always entertaining, but the food has gone downhill a bit, which saddens me, because it used to be SO good. I still don't hesitate to make the drive over for some good solid beer drinkin' though.

Yelp
If you're a beer afficianado (or snob) I'd suggest you hie thee to this place of many taps and more bottles. You could hurt yourself sampling. If you're not, well, don't bother. The place is "meh" in every other respect. I've been assured the food is good but it's pretty standard, one might say stereotypical, bar food. Fish sandwich. Check. Burger. Check. It's like they spent all their energy on the beers and the rest came out of a copy of Bars for Dummies. Suggestion, if you're not going to offer table service, designate a specific area for people to order at the bar. It's not that hard, just a sign. Or those nifty brass rails a la Matador or Kelly's. But when people with money to spend can't tell who's sitting at the bar and who's waiting for drinks, money just might go back into the pocket instead of in your till. Like mine did.

Yelp
This place Rules...if you like drinking in a Credit Union. There is just something totally sterile and unwelcoming about this place. Yet, I keep finding myself idly biking there after catching a show at Kennedy School. It's not quite a dive, but it doesn't strike me as homey as a brewpub either. It's lacking pizazz. There IS a pretty amazing selection of crafty beer on tap, which I don't mind paying an inflated price for ($5-$7 a pint) IF I wasn't getting the impression that I was terribly burdening the poor bar-back to get me said beer. I have seen evidence of a Tuesday Night special, but I pay $2 for Hamm's or Sessions anyway. What's special about that? My main gripe is that I have never been treated like anything other than a pest by the bartenders here. Audible sigh. Another sore spot is the random times it seems to close. Your sign says that you are open til 2:30a on a Saturday. Please do me the honor of staying open until posted time. I respect the concept of "bar time," but seriously...the last visit I had here we were offhandedly told by the waitress that they would be closing soon, and she was sorry for not letting us know about last call. My friends and I Synchronized Swatches, and it was an EARLY 1am on a Saturday. Dangburgers! We were just getting started. I am rating based on several occasions throughout a span of four years, each visit with hopes that things have changed. They haven't. Same forgettable atmosphere and weird staff. The beer is good, but be warned that you are paying for it--and not just monetarily. Go ahead, check it out if you are in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't not go out of my way to go here.

Yelp
I'm giving this pace three stars due to their 30-tap setup. There is a broad selection of dank beers, sours, and even a CBD drink. They also fill growlers. Had the halibut fish and chips today, well they were tasty, I've had better. Pretty good price though for halibut. And sure beats the local Kennedy school mcmenamins tap selection... If your in the neighborhood, it's worth stopping by. Also, good selection of happy hour menu items!

Yelp
Let me take a minute to revisit how much I adore this place. In a few short months I have developed a tighter bond with some of the bartenders than I have with many of my friends. They know my name. They hug me. They protect me from the very strange men at the bar who like to explain to me what kind of beer I like ("that's too dark for a lady like yourself!") I'm a little thrown off by the sudden infiltration by people who don't look a day older than 18, though. I suspect they're from Concordia University. The girls prompt some of my more drunken male friends to make an attempt at beating me in in pool. They fail. I've also gotten to the point where I can tell Rob to pick a beer for me and I'm never disappointed. The highlight for me, though, will always be the fact that it's stumbling distance from my house. If I can't make the five block walk, I don't deserve to the leave the bar in the first place. If you and I start hanging out, it's a sure bet that you'll make a trip to the Ale House with me. Don't worry - it only hurts the first time.

Yelp
I am definitely a fan of the Concordia Ale House. From the outside this place is a little bland and plain looking, and it's not that fancy on the inside either - but it is inoffensive and comfortable, especially if you arrive early enough to score a table (which can be in short supply when it's busy...which is quite often). It's laid out in an "L" shape, with longish open dining room stretching from the main entrance back to the bar. My experience has been you get better table service if you're sitting in this area. Facing the bar there's another space directly to your left (with a door that opens onto the sidewalk for smokers to step outside to satisfy their habits). This area is much more cramped as they've got a table-top video game (Ms. Pac-man, if memory serves) along the wall and a pool table stuck in the middle of the room. Not many large tables here in this section, but I usually end up here because all the seating in the front is taken. And of course, you can always sit at the bar where you'll get the best service, and the bartenders are almost always very knowledgeable and ready to help with your beer selections. Don't be afraid to ask to sample something first - they've always accommodated my requests, but I don't abuse the privilege! Their food is reasonably priced, and has enough items to satisfy most people. Burgers and sliders are great, as are their salads (well, I've only ever had one and it was good). They sometimes go astray with a few of their "fancier" entrees - on a recent visit the Lamb Souvlaki was a bit tough while the accompanying rice was rather bland - but the more basic items like sandwiches and such are always quite good. They always have a ton of beers on tap, many I'd classify as hard to find, and always a good variety of styles. They have even more bottles, including some that I've never seen before - even at Belmont Station or John's Market! A buddy and I recently had a friendly debate as to which PDX watering hole has the largest selection of brews on tap or in bottle - if Concordia Ale House isn't #1, I'd say it's in the top five! Catering to the beer lover is certainly their primary objective, and they frequently have formal or informal tastings and beer competitions - they once had a 10-IPA battle, where you can buy a flight of tasters and vote for your faves. Sure, you can do something like that on your own, but they often pick some interesting and diverse examples of the given style of beer. Service is good, but often can be quite slow. They've always been friendly though, and like I said it can get quite busy, so I cut them some slack. Any day is good to go, but on Tuesdays they have a selection of bottled favorites for $2, and their happy hour (which I believe ends at 6pm) is definitely worth it. One last interesting note, I stopped in a few years back during their first month of business and the owner was behind the bar. He was an AWESOME guy, a veritable encyclopedia of beer, and very friendly. He told us about how, during their remodel prior to opening, they uncovered these really cool old pink elephant murals on the walls - they had just been covered up, but he liked them so much they kept them. Keep an eye out for them; they're reminiscent of the logo from a bottle Delirium Tremens (which you can probably enjoy there).

Yelp
There are few places that can produce a sense of euphoria within an individual simply upon entering. Such places are sought by all of humanity and seldom are they ever discovered. Thus, when such a place is found, one needs to embrace it to the fullest extent. I have found this place and it is called The Concordia Ale House. The Concordia Ale House boasts the best and most eclectic beer selection in North Portland. It doesn't have the most beers on tap, but the slection is consistently changing, revolving and evolving. They have everything from Iron City beer, which is a feature of their two dollar tuesday night selection, to Sami Claus, which is a pricey, seasonal, 13 % apv european import. As well as the beers on tap, they have many various bottled brews, which are consistent w/ their eclectic and plentiful selections. Also if you want to try something on tap, they're happy to let you try it on the house. The cuisine at the Ale House is as interesting and varied as their beer selection. The dishes vary from time to time, depending on what the chef feels like concocting. The burgers are always good and the fries are consistently fantastic, some of the best I've experienced at a pub. The Ale House also has great bartenders and friendly waitresses that add to the utopia-like experience. Also free pool is always a plus and is a rare find these days. Those of you who are looking for some grand oasis in the desert that is North Portland, the Concordia Ale House is not a mirage, it may just provide the nourishment that your pallate had been longing for. Can you feel the Euphoria yet? I've experienced it and now no other place will suffice......actually thats not entirely true, other places will suffice, I just added that last bit to increase dramatic intensity.

Yelp
As a beer drinking destination, the Concordia Ale House has a tremendous selection of great beers to choose from. I was very impressed at the time that they had two different and equally fabulous double IPA's on tap. The owner was great, and took the time to talk beer with me and my wife. He was real excited to talk about their upcoming beer competition between Oregon & Washington brewers. His enthusiasm for his trade was welcomed and contagious. The establishment itself is ok...the location is in an L shape, but it seemed as if the main activity was in the center where the bar is located. If they would only put half the effort into the environment as they do in the beer selection, you would have a 5 star brew pub. Concordia is a little out of our neck of the woods, so you would more then likely find me at the Green Dragon, which also has an impressive beer selection, and a better ambiance. However, if I find myself carousing over in NE Ptown, I am more then happy to go back and enjoy another cold beverage. Concordia definitely belong amongst the top places to drink beer in Portland.
