Dined in last night with an 8 PM reservation. The front hostess seemed completely overwhelmed by the crowd and wasn’t handing out the complimentary champagne that was advertised—instead, she started asking who wanted a glass.
Once seated, the restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, and our waitress (whose name I forgot) was friendly. We ordered hookah and asked about the strawberry wings—she raved about them, so we decided to try them. Next came drinks. I ordered a tequila lychee martini. It was tasty but not outstanding.
For food we ordered the Honey Truffle Chicken, mac & cheese, and Brussels sprouts. The food was disappointing. I only ate one Brussels sprout, a few bites of mac & cheese, and nibbled on the chicken. When the waitress asked how everything was, we said “okay” because we didn’t want to make a scene.
We placed another drink order; I got a strawberry tequila lemon drop. When those came out we had already pushed our plates aside. The manager stopped by, asked if we didn’t like the food, and we were honest—no, especially not the Brussels sprouts. He said he’d handle it and offered a shot; we asked for Don Julio Reposado but were served the house tequila, which tasted like rubbing alcohol.
The bill was the last straw. Nothing was comped after we expressed that we didn’t enjoy the food. Even worse, we were charged $50 for 2 lychee martinis, $36 for the Don Repo (which I never specified), and $14 lychee flavoring—meaning I was charged for flavoring on my cocktail. On top of that, they charged extra for the flavoring in the strawberry lemon drop. Charging for a simple flavor add-in is tacky and feels nickel-and-dimey for a restaurant trying to be upscale.
In total we paid $323 for subpar food and confusing, overpriced drinks. Between the lack of transparency, questionable service handling, and disappointing food, I will not be returning. Their practices are outrageous for what they’re trying to be.
