Where to Eat and Drink in Delaware Beach Towns

"Locals know that Confucius Chinese Cuisine makes some of the area’s tastiest fish dishes with ginger scallions or black bean sauce. An extensive menu includes American-Chinese favorites, tingling Sichuan-style shrimp, double-cooked Hunan pork belly, and more." - Julekha Dash, Eater Staff

Google
We have had this on our list of restaurants to make it to. I have heard great reviews about this restaurant and have been excited to try it. I am so happy we made it. The service is excellent and the food is amazing. Thank you for the dinner experience and we will definitely be back!

Google
I have recently moved to Rehoboth and was told this was the best Chinese food in the area. What a surprise when I went to dinner on 11/16/24. The server was rude from the beginning, rushing us to order drinks and food as soon as we sat down. We placed an order of appetizers and they were cold and tasted like frozen not home made. When I told the server that the appetizers were not up to par she” said well you ate them didn’t you.” While everyone is entitled to having a bad day, which is what I thought I noticed the server was very pleasant to the other customers around us at other tables. Dining experiences should be pleasant and not feel like one is being disrespected.

One of the best restaurants in Rehoboth. Mostly locals in here as not many tourists think about getting Chinese food when on vacation. If you like spicy, this is your place. We started with Salt and Pepper Calamari. It was light and crispy and seasoned to perfection. It is served with their signature long peppers, making every bit a piece of spicy heaven. For dinner we had the Five Spice Duck, which was amazingly spicy. Not killer if you can't stand heat, just delicious. We also had the Seafood on Cantonese noodles. Pricey dish but worth it as it is loaded with crab and lobster. Can't wait to go back!

Google
Phenomenal! The wonton soup and Seafood Ala Confucius were terrific. Well worth your time and money. The owner is hands on and the waitress was spot on and very knowledgeable.

Google
We perhaps we ate there on an off night, according to other reviews I read. We ordered 2 soups, wonton and hot and sour. The wonton soup was very bland (would not order that again). The hot and sour was good. Next we ordered vegetable lo mein with chicken. The chicken was so tough and chewy and tasteless, we were very disappointed. Also the vegetables were almost nonexistent. When we complained to our waitress and manager, they refused to acknowledge our concerns. Will not be returning to that restaurant again!

Have dined here many times over the past several years, and have never had a bad meal. Food flavors are excellent, and ingredients are always fresh. Garlic blossoms are a wonderful side dish. Danielle's martinis are some of the best.

Google
This is the genuine article. The smoked tofu appetizer was something I’ve never seen before but was a hit even for those who don’t normally go for tofu. The owner explained that it was from her hometown in Hunan Province. Next time I’m in China I’m headed there! In the meantime it’s great to have this option hidden in Rehoboth here!!

Google
What an absolute wonderful experience and the most amazing Chinese food you can eat in your life. Love the service as well. Highly recommend to the locals and anyone visiting Rehoboth!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in for our first Chinese food dinner since moving to Rehoboth Beach. It was recommended by a friend and clearly earned the recommendation! The restaurant is in a small painted house close to the beach. Several people were waiting for their doors to open at 5 pm on a Friday night. That speaks to their delicious offering. They had a full page of wine offerings. I ordered a glass of dry Trefethen Reisling - delicious! There were only three beers available which included Tsingtao and Corona. My husband had one of each. We ordered a heaping order of Smoked Tofu and Long Peppers as a starter. It was piping hot off the stove, perfectly balanced and spicy with black bean paste and peppers. The tofu was steeped in smoked flavoring. We quickly devoured this app - even though we weren't as hungry as our shoveling forks might have indicated. It was just so good! I ordered the Buddha's Delight (fried tofu, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms and snow peas) with a side of steamed rice as my entree. It was perfect! I suspect if I'd have requested the tofu to be steamed, as the veggies appeared to be, they would have done so. Regardless, the sauce was savory and thick and the veggies were beautifully al dente. My husband ordered the Chicken Kung Pao. The portion size was large and he appreciated the spiciness. He did feel it was a bit salty but still too good to return to the chef. Between the drinks, app and entrees (which we took half of our large entrees home), the bill was around $95.00. Not a cheap venture but worth every cent. Our server was a young foreign exchange student who was attentive and polite. The manager was hands on to make sure our food was to our liking. And the service was quite quick but as mentioned, piping hot and freshly made. The entrance to the restaurant is a bit disheveled. But don't let that keep you from sitting down. It was worth every cent!

Yelp
Authentic Chinese cuisine with a unique flair that is sure to satisfy a variety of palettes. The kung pao chicken was flavorful and offered a nice kick but wasn't too spicy. The mu shu pork tasted amazing and was well presented. It is apparent that great care is taken when preparing these dishes. The sauces are all made from scratch and have the perfect flavor and consistency. The interior isn't the most spacious so expect a packed house almost every night.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance were great!!! I highly recommend Confucius. It's one of our favorite restaurants in Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Yelp
I continue to enjoy coming to this restaurant and feel it has only improved with age. My previous review still captures some of the most important elements for me. It is now a must on every trip to Rehoboth Beach.

Deacon M.

Yelp
The food is amazing, it is truly a pleasure to eat there. It has a clean modern atmosphere and a professional aand top notch staff.

Yelp
Very solid Chinese food in Rehoboth. The front room can be a bit noisy, but we were seated in the back. Service was okay, the food was great. Black Pepper Steak was savory and my bite of the Kung Pao Chicken was good.
google avatar

Lindsay L.

Yelp
Prices were reasonable for the area and portion of food. Dishes are shareable. Food was excellent, all 6 of us left full not stuffed but completely satisfied. The only removal of a star was the service was sort of meh. It took a while for a waitress to come over to take our order. Food came out at rather decent timing but the attentiveness of the waitresses was a little low. Very friendly and I understand it was busy, but can't give it a full 5/5 stars for that reason.
google avatar

Francis D.

Yelp
The food is so good, It reminds me of the eateries in Chinatown Philadelphia! Nothing like the beach to good authentic Chinese food

Sheungkwan C.

Yelp
Taste good BUT, I highly recommend you to ask them to lower the sodium. We ordered the General Tso, It was too salty to consume. The book choy was good. The Wonton soup has real Chinese veges, with nice nice vege flavor. Rice was good too, but just less salt will make it perfect. So, my recommendation: it would be a 5 star if they reduce the amount of salt or soya sauce .

Yelp
Dinner tonight was as good as we've ever had in any Chinese restaurant. Did not expect it for little Rehoboth! Service was great and ambiance nice... we'll be back!

Beatrice W.

Yelp
We went on a winter weeknight & it was moderately busy. Ambiance is modern Asian. It was a bit dark. I ordered the Buddha's Delight and enjoyed it very much. Hubby had noodles. They were pretty and good but not the best ever. Service was excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Confucius has been our local favorite for the past 20 years. We always have an outstanding meal and enjoy the excellent service and personal connections with the owners. We enjoyed the salt and pepper appetizer in the noodle bowl, singapore noodles, Tong Ann Chicken and their delicious green beans with eggplant!

C T.

Yelp
This is the BEST Chinese food you will ever eat. The owners take great pride in their food and are there every night. The service is always friendly and on top of things. It's not a huge restaurant which makes the place comfortable and cozy. I cannot recommend high enough and I don't care where you hale from. This is legit the best.

Gwen S.

Yelp
We have gotten take out several times. The food is delicious and the owners are extremely friendly. I have food allergies and they can accommodate any request, making the dish to order. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A very delightful meal on a Saturday night. We were seated immediately and our server was very attentive. The table ordered the salmon scallion pancakes, the seafood dish, and I had the Ma La Tingling Chicken, which had a nice tingling, dry heat. Portion size was very generous. The restaurant atmosphere was great, cozy, warm, and not too loud. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our night out.

Karen D.

Yelp
The waitress was Horrible.. nasty.. we bring business to the restaurant and get treated like crap... won't go there again..

Karen C.

Yelp
Food and service were great! I had the crispy shrimp with walnuts. The sauce was amazing!
google avatar

Janet P.

Yelp
We've come here several times and have always had a nice time. Higher end Chinese cuisine and lovely cocktails keep this small and attractive place busy. Do call for reservations! We like spice, so starting with the salt & pepper shrimp is a great choice. On a recent visit they had run out of the amazing flowering garlic chives, so we had the lovely eggplant and shared that with the five spiced duck and Singapore rice noodles. We love Peking Duck but we enjoy the table side carving experience. Their duck is very flavorful but it's not what you might expect if you want the whole duck carved.
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
The food is outstanding and service is top notch. Always a go to place in rehoboth. Crispy halibut is amazing. You can't go wrong with any of their options.
google avatar

Yelp
We have traveled the world and think this is the best Chinese restaurant. In fact Shawn the chef knows when we are here because of the order that we place. Cantonese noodles /hunan fish /tingling beef /salt pepper calamari/ sea bass with hot pepper black bean sauce. We drive from Dover De and our kids have grown up eating here for the past 20 years. Always over the top fantastic tasty flavorful delicious food. I hear The NY Times has wanted to do a food review a few times. Hats off to Shawn and Danielle for the best restaurant in Delaware.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
I gotta say it's the best Chinese Food place I've ever eaten in but it's tough when I've been to the best places around Rehoboth the food does fall short a tad. Crispy Halibut was good service was perfect restaurant was nice enough.

Marie S.

Yelp
The best thing I can say about this restaurant is that it has food that you can eat. That's about it. It's not great, and definitely not worth paying for, but if you're at the beach and you can't find anyplace else and you're really hungry, then you can find food there. I don't know about service because we had takeout, but the quality of the actual food was just meh. The egg rolls were truly disappointing - just complete mush, with no taste at all. I actually pulled one open to see if there were actually any vegetables in there. It was 90% mushy dough with a couple of carrot pieces. The sauteed string beans were not bad and were probably the best thing we had. They weren't spicy and didn't have much flavor other than being salty, but they were better than the egg rolls. Wanton soup was a couple of level's below Campbell's Chicken Noodle, and the beef and chicken entrees were "just OK." All in all, I would not go back there. I'd give it another star if it was super cheap, like in a food court or something, but it's about $22-25 per entree. Save your money and skip this one, unless you're starving and need food to survive.

Yelp
FIVE HUGE STARS for Confucius Chinese Cuisine. We went twice while staying in Rehoboth for 3 days. It's that good!

Harold B.

Yelp
Excellent authentic Chinese good in a nice setting. I liked my crunchy halibut in black bean sauce, wife had steamed halibut and friend had shrimp and we all liked our good and nice Sincere wine . Highly revommend
google avatar

Chrystina C.

Yelp
Got the chicken fried rice ($15) and chinese broccoli ($10). They're pretty tasty and satisfies my craving for asian food. They're great for the area, albeit a bit pricey for the portion size. Would definitely return when in the area. I'd prefer confucius over the other options in the area. I can only eat so much pizza and fries.
google avatar

Justis T.

Yelp
My friends brought me here for my birthday after hearing me pine away about my mother's cooking and my desire for her home cooked Chinese noodles. While we ultimately didn't try their noodles, I loved the dishes we did order (two of which are pictured). They reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. The entire building is unassuming, but it houses the best Chinese food I've ever had in Rehoboth. One can find less common dishes here such as Peking duck and frog legs. Don't let this deter you as there are more accessible options for those that have less adventurous palates. The space isn't overly loud, and the tables are decently spaced, allowing for comfortable seating. AmEx is accepted here.

Marie W.

Yelp
Good enough. We got takeout. Generally well-prepared and somewhat unique menu. Fried rice with shrimp could have used more flavor, but otherwise it was okay. Would return.
google avatar

Yelp
A dynamic and surprising hidden treasure! The dumplings are not to be beat. The skin on the duck was thin and very crispy! The Black Pepper Beef was excellently seasoned and prepared. The Hunan Beef was an absolute delight!!! The Crispy Halibut was the star of the show with ginger and scallions. Brilliant flavors!!! I will be going back soon, ready for more! Cheers!!!

Adam H.

Yelp
We love Confucius Cafe and try to make a pilgrimage here every time we come up to the beach. Shawn (the Chef) and Danielle (hostess/Proprietor) always make a point to come say hello. There are so many fantastic dishes to choose from including the chicken and ginger soup, salt and pepper prawns, home style chicken, pork with long peppers and black bean sauce, and smoked tofu with long hot peppers, and so on. When he has lotus root available Shawn will whip up a special batch too. Frankly, Confucius is so good that it has spoiled us from mainstream "American Chinese food". 5 out of 5 stars!

Sue R.

Yelp
The food is quite good. Soups and teas are excellent and love the way they serve all of them. The apps were ok prob not my favorite part of the meal. The service was completely on point. Everything else we ordered was really good. Sea Bass, halibut, everything good. if you are from NY or DC this is not awesome However in this area this place is beyond the best. Give them a try you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
First time last week and loved the Peking duck with sides of eggplant and shrimp fried rice. Leftovers gave us another meal, so ample portions and the service was very attentive and pleasant.
google avatar

Penny O.

Yelp
First off I would say the restaurant vibe has a nice ambiance. But I'm reviewing for my takeout experience. Overpriced Chinese food. Not worth it. You can find better places. More importantly, the restaurant hostess was rushy, not welcoming, and mean. We ordered takeout and the woman was not happy at all. So odd. And made everyone feel awkward. She told us to come back in 30-45 minutes to pickup the food. We came back in 25 minutes. The hostess gave an irrationally upset look at us for being "late". What the hell!? We setup a timer on our phone. Walnut shrimp and scallop ($26) portions was small. Two appetizers and one entree was about $45. I will not be coming back.

James I.

Yelp
Me and my wife have eaten here several times and it remains our favorite authentic Chinese Food restaurant in Rehoboth Beach. My go to meal is the Cumin Beef, nice spicy kick, and my wife loves the Kung Pao Chicken. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Marcella K.

Yelp
My husband and I absolutely love their food! Upscale Chinese food and the owners Shawn and Danielle are incredibly gracious hosts. We love the dumplings, wonton soup and crispy halibut w/ginger scallion and the crispy halibut with spicy black bean sauce if you like some heat. If you want authentic Chinese food, this is the place. We don't come to Rehoboth without coming to Confucius! Highly recommended!!!
google avatar

Kassandra S.

Yelp
I know my taste buds are from the city areas of NYC and philly, but Confucius really reminded me of chinese food I would eat with my family growing up. Who knew you could find peking duck and pan fried noodles here in Rehoboth Beach! The pan fried noodles reminded me of my father, because he always ordered the same dish everytime we had a celebration at a chinese restaurant in NYC. It tastes just like home.

Ned N.

Yelp
The food here is very good always but also very pricey. We do take out once a week so we consider ourselves regulars. During Covid we always went out of our way to tip generously on take out to help the wait staff who suffered the most out of the whole ordeal. Since Covid Pandemic is over and businesses are back to regular operations we don't feel so inclined to tip on take out especially since the prices are so high to begin with. Our most recent order totalled $120. What is it that I am tipping for, for the restaurant to take my call, to place my order in a bag and ensure all contents are correctly placed in the bag? It seems to me that is an ordinary task, nothing service related as compared to in-person dining. Last nights pick up was Extremely awkward. The waitress asked not once, twice but three times if I would leave a tip. Isn't picking up the phone out of a million restaurant choices good enough to give them my repeat business? The waitress pushiness was not appreciative. I do tip on takeout sometimes but it shouldn't be expected. What I expect is for the restaurant owners to provide enough wages so their staff doesn't get so pushy!!! What a turn off! It was so uncomfortable I am thinking we can do without the Chinese food for awhile. I wish they were more appreciative to have my business and I wish they would train their staff to be appreciative as opposed to having expectations. I think the whole tipping thing has gotten so out of hand and I recognize this is only one instance But They shove a key pad in my face at Starbucks before I even have my coffee in hand and the first question is tip. Yea, no thanks! So disappointed and left feeling very uncomfortable.

Yelp
I don't usually associate Chinese food with fine dining. I also don't usually associate it with the beach. This place definitely changed my mind on both. I also don't write that many five star reviews. The place is essentially a renovated house, light and airy to the extreme and definitely a good place for a quiet, high-class dinner. The host is exceptionally cordial and has been the same for a while, while the servers are mostly a rotating class of Eastern European immigrants presumably here temporarily. Not a lot of Chinese people in Rehoboth I guess. The food is unfailingly delectable, with huge portions and eclectic and authentic options. It's not a huge menu, but there are sufficient vegetarian options. Smoked tofu and hot peppers is unbelievable, we get one and sometimes two orders every time. They also have perhaps the best Buddha's delight I've ever had, and vegetarian versions of their noodle dishes. The first time we went there, they were about to tell us we couldn't have the some of our order because they were out of tofu, before they informed us that some more had just been delivered. We joke about it every time we go back; how glad we are the tofu truck came in. This place is always a treat. It is expensive, but I'd say the overall quality of the food and the experience justifies it, particularly as an occasional indulgence in a vacation spot.

Sean M.

Yelp
The menu listed is not true! Nothing at this restaurant is under 21 dollars. Food is great and service is awesome. Would recommend but not on a budget.

Yelp
HORRIBLE AND RUDE OWNER! We came in at 6pm on a Saturday evening with our 2 kids and there were at least 15 open tables in the restaurant. The owner was really rude and demanding that we leave our strollers outside on the sidewalk, but we had one kid sleeping in her stoller and tried to tell her that we could fold the other one. She told us she had a "large party" coming in over and over at 7pm and made it seem like she really didn't want our money. She seated us in an empty room at a table next to the bathroom and told us she couldn't fit a high chair at the table and that we would block the path to the bathroom. She did not offer to seat us at another table and was so rude that we walked out of the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. My daughter woke up crying for Chinese food and she ruined our evening.

Michael S.

Yelp
went again Monday evening. Appetizers were great. Salt & Pepper Shrimp, dumplings and duck rolls were wonderful. My wife did fish which was fresh and done with ginger scallion sauce. I went for chicken and mushrooms and asked them to add spice. Never miss the string beans! Wonderful dinner. Always a favorite of ours.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Very disappointing...heard this was the best Chinese resturant in the area. It was mediocre at best. The food was not very good and the prices were outrageous for the portions and quality. My wife had the Moo shu chicken and it was so salty she couldn't eat. I had the beef Hunan. The meat was tender, but the sauce was very oily and tasteless. We won't be back and there are other Chinese restaurants in the area that are a lot less expensive.

Gwendolyn W.

Yelp
We ordered carryout Shrimp Fried Rice during our 1st Time to Rehoboth Beach! It was the only location close to Beach. Order was $15.00 (too expensive), and clean. Just OK and nothing special to write home about. We can get good Chinnese back in DC, we'll wait to have chinnese on our return home next time.

Yelp
Meh. Let's start off with service. Our waitress was horrible. We had ordered a round of drinks as well as iced waters, we didn't receive any of it until we asked twice, when our food was brought out and mid way finishing our meals. She didn't check up on us, didn't offer refills or anything. She acted as if we were an inconvenience to her. Food. I'm Asian, I know good Asian food and this was not it. The soups were bland, it was equivalent to instant soup mix or ramen broth. Pecking duck, not impressed, usually with an authentic pecking duck it's paired with a crepe or a bao with some sliced cucumbers and scallions, here you only get scallions. The skin wasn't crispy either. Walnuts shrimp and scallops, the sauce was weird, this dish normally has a coconut creamy sauce at authentic places but here it's like a sweet and sour sauce from Wendy's. Bok choy, bland. Bok choy is soooo easy to make, sauté some garlic and add a bit of oyster and soy sauce, some salt and pepper and boom some bomb bok choy, soooo simple but they even jacked that up. Overall this is pretty much overpriced Chinese take out. I rather get elevated and go get take out from somewhere else. This isn't fine Cantonese dining, travel to D.C or philly for that.
google avatar

Kobe K.

Yelp
the best at the beach. steamed halibut. flounder appetizer, calamari appetizer, duck, veggie lo mein.

Sunanda P.

Yelp
This place should not even be in business their food is beyond horrible. Their chicken dish tasted like eating moth balls. Overpriced horrible food .. i called to Complain and the lady says we normally don't recommend that dish yet she gladly charged me $18 foe it !! Don't ever go to this place
google avatar

I A M.

Yelp
Expensive and inconsistent. Sever did not listen to me when I asked if the chef could put the seafood melange onto wide flat "fun" noodles. She came back with the dish on some vermicelli noodles, with an insipid sauce. It didn't work. I wish she had come back to tell me that the chef wouldn't do it the way I wanted, then I would have ordered something else. My wife had the crispy halibut which was delicious. My own food was so bland I had to ask for chili sauce to get it down. My wife agreed when she tasted it that it was not good. I conveyed this disappointment when another server picked up the dishes, but were we charged the full amount. It was just a RIP OFF. I don't usually go to this level, but I asked to talk to the manager. I told her the restaurant had been highly recommended by our b & b hostess, and was very adept at being gluten free. Nevertheless, when the server took my order she should have come back to offer me the option of ordering an alternative. I was really bummed, as I had high hopes of tasty seafood chow fun or some variation of that. The manager only took $7 off of a $67 bill (2 entrees, no drinks)... really?? I was not impressed. They clearly don't care what I report back to the b & b or care about repeat customers. Next time, LISTEN to the customer, and pay attention. And if they are VERY CLEARLY unhappy, you comp them a free dessert, or something!! Have some class. Won't be coming back to Confucius any time soon.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
We went here on a whim and we're not disappointed! I had the crispy halibut which was amazing. One of the best pieces of fish I have had in a long time. My husband had the Confucius Seafood which he said was one of the best meals he's ever had. Tons of seafood and great flavor. This will definitely be on our list of go to places when we return!

Baron H.

Yelp
The Best Number 1 Chinese restaurant in the area.! Sean is an extremely talented chef his creativity is superb. I've over the years have had the opportunity to taste probably the entire menu twice. I look forward to seeing if I can do it again.

Michael D.

Yelp
Not sure wht this only 3.5 stars on Yelp because it's some of the best Chinese food I've had... full stop! Seafood Confucuis an Whole Sea Bass are the best. Everything I've had is great. Small dining in area and gets busy on weekends and during the Summer season but all worth the wait. Recommend without reservation.
