Happened to be in the area and wanted some sandwhiches and asada fries on our way home. It’s the classic old school take out type food. Don’t expect anything fancy, but they do it right here. Saw some nice reviews on this place and I definitely agree. This place had a constant line of customers when we were waiting for our food. Parking was easy. Ordered through a street side window. Looked like the dining room was closed but it didn’t matter to us. Staff is very friendly and seemed very accommodating to peoples orders. When we were in line, a customer nicely recommended the #1 and all of the grinders to us since I guess they could tell we first timers here It was a good recommendation since we opted for and really enjoyed the pastrami grinder. Surprised with how much lettuce was in it, gave it a nice crunch. I love the bread We also got the cheesesteak. Both sandwiches has plenty of meat, not too salty. The zings were delicious. Always worried with fried stuff they’d be overly greasy and salty. Not the case here. Zucchini was soft on the inside, crispy and not salty at all. Onions was deliciously sweet. Asada fries were delicious as well. Asada was tender, plenty of guac and I enjoyed the jalapeños in it. Good portion to share. The fries were fried perfectly crispy but you definitely need to eat this right away We’re not in the area often as it’s a bit far north for us, but if we are, I will be back

Google
Solid fast food joint that has a huge selection of different options. They have breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, plates, Mexican food, and more. The double cheeseburger was hefty and a nice balance. The pastrami grinder was also well made and very tasty. The fries were a bit too crispy for me but still complemented the burgers nicely. You order outside at a counter but they have a decent seating area. Staff are very friendly as well.

Google
Burger wasn’t bad at all; the fries were not only bad, but tbh were old and had been recooked/refried. We asked for them to be crispy, and after waiting extra time received old, hard, cold refried oil sticks instead. Fries were so bad it ruined the meal and pushed me to leave my first google review in a decade, if ever. Refrying old fries is disgusting, disrespectful, and unprofessional. When I called in I wasn’t offered an apology, nor a refund, but merely to have some more cold fries recooked while I wait.

Google
Sandwich’s are pretty good but I wouldn’t say it’s a premium sandwich. The Philly is better than the pastrami for me but it’s always a little saltier than I would like. I taste that cheap salt flavor a bit if it was sea salt it would taste so much better. My fries did taste a little off. Like the oil was old or it was refried. Still a solid joint that will always be a local favorite

Google
Connals is an amazing neighborhood joint that needs to stay in business forever. The people that work there are super sweet and the food is amazing. We got the turkey sandwich and Philly cheesesteak and ice cream. Everything was a 10/10. Definitely coming again!!

Google
Saw folks on Reddit hyping this place up as Lucky Boy's breakfast burrito rival, so I had to check it out. Pulled up at lunch and the line was packed with construction workers and locals - usually a good sign! They've got a simple takeout window setup, and each burrito comes with green salsa (grab extra, you'll need it). Real talk though? Pretty disappointed. The burrito's smaller than Lucky Boy's and just... meh. Everything's all separated inside - spongy eggs on one end, way too many salty fries on the other. Cool that they tried using crispy fries for texture, but it just didn't work. Save yourself the trip and stick with Lucky Boy's. This spot might be popular, but it's not worth the hype.

Google
This has a great burger and the small chili cheese fries are huge. Enough food for 3 people. The pastrami sandwich was perfect too.

Google
A classic, old-school, LA style diner and takeout spot. This place has been around for so long because it’s consistently good in every aspect. The food is fresh, service is great, prices are reasonable, and it’s a convenient way to grab a quick lunch. The grinders are all great, especially the original combo. Tried the chicken Parm special for the first time and it didn’t disappoint. Also, don’t sleep on the fries. They definitely hit the spot.

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS INCREDIBLE. Really solid old school burger/ sandwich joint. Highly recommend the onion rings, and the combos are great value. Service is quick and friendly, and the decor is very cute and retro.

Yelp
Wanted a good turkey club sandwich but didn't want to drive far so I stopped by here. The cashier was friendly and service was good. Ordered a club sandwich combo $20. I was like damn so I was hoping it was worth my $20. Didn't disappoint though. Sourdough bread was perfectly toasted, not dry and bacon was nice and crispy. Fries were also crispy. This could definitely feed two people depending on how hungry you are at the moment. But it was delicious. Will come back to order again.

Yelp
Well... If you've ever wondered what Beef Sandwhiches taste like AND FRIES 66 years in the making ... that are spiced to original perfection...try Connals... Their Rib Eye Steak Sandwhich on their lightly toasted bread and lettuce and tomato w mayo and a toothpick on each half to hold it all together... was pretty surreal... so nice.. Washed these AAA rated fries with a coke and boy! Did they NOT disappoint ...but rather... surprised as well...I've seldom had fries that tasted this good...the SPICE!!! These fries should have starred in Villenueve's Dune sequel ... I think my eyes are turning blue from the SPICE this very minute!!! I DID take down this gigantic bag of fries in less than 5 minutes... It would have been unconscionable for me to NOT HAVE... Get to Connals... they've been doing this for 66 years...since 1958... Nineteen FIFTY F.... EIGHT people...!!! Now if their sandwhiches and fries are this good... I can't imagine what their Burgers taste like... Like another DUNE IP... we'll return AGAIN and AGAIN... Their menu is also immense... It's time to feed those GIANT Stomach worms!!! The Spice MUST FLOW!!!

Yelp
I was hoping to experience the much talked about local favorite. Unfortunately, my experience at Connals fell short of expectations. First, I tried the bean and cheese burrito, which had an overwhelmingly strong black pepper flavor that overshadowed everything else. The breakfast burrito was another disappointment, the eggs were overcooked, resulting in a dry and unappetizing meal. The BBQ burger with onion rings was equally underwhelming. It lacked the flavor and quality I expected, especially when compared to a Carl's Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger, which is significantly better. Despite the food, the man who took my order was pleasant, which was a small consolation. I fail to understand the hype surrounding this place. While the small parking lot is a nice touch, I would absolutely never come here again.

Yelp
Best sandwich place in Pasadena. Throwback to the 60's. Don't tell anyone about this place. It's already too busy
google avatar

Natel S.

Yelp
Whenever I can't decide what to eat you'll find me at Connals. Connals has a huge menu and everything I have tried is so good. My favorite is the chicken quesadilla and I get it with a side of fries and ranch. This is a quick and easy meal and always hits the spot

Yelp
I've had my eye on this place for a while because you don't see "grinders" very often in these neck of the woods Ordered the classic Italian for lunch and was very happy. A nice portion of meat, not too many tomatoes or lettuce that overwhelmed the sandwich. I do wish there were a bit more peppers throughout and that they used just a touch more oil & vinegar. Otherwise not bad at all! The turkey club was good too, came with a large portion of fries. The side of BAHBQUE was great I should have asked for more to take home because nothing was left by the end of lunch! The man working the counter was not the sharpest bread knife in the drawer and could be seen causing us and other customers some grief but I've dealt with much worse for the sake of a good sandwich

Yelp
Negative 5 stars.... ordered a cheese burger and fries and got trash. Disappointed usually always decent but I won't be going back..

Raffi K.

Yelp
Bombest bacon avocado double cheeseburger. You really don't know what you're missing this place is the best spot for burgers

Stacie S.

Yelp
We go here regularly. I love the turkey grinder. My daughter loves the pastrami. We all like the zucchini fries. There is something for everyone here. It's a solid 4 and maybe even 4.5.

Paula D.

Yelp
An original hang out, with plenty of sandwiches to choose from. The pastrami is good, but what a burger!

Kara F.

Yelp
This place is mid. I see lines (blocking the sidewalk) waiting for food at this place, and I fell victim to the hype. Don't be like me. Portions are HUGE, as is the amount of salt in everything. Even the Coke wasn't too good.
google avatar

Yelp
Secret Menu: Try the Boston Shake! It's a delightful mix with a creamy shake on the bottom and a rich sundae on top. My go-to is the chocolate malt shake paired with a chocolate sundae. Highly recommended for a decadent treat. Enjoy!
google avatar

Dan L.

Yelp
Connal is a nice family owned sandwich and burgers place in North Pasadena. The sandwiches and burgers are on point! The combo grinder was a good size and stuffed with plenty of cold cuts, lettuce and tomato. And the avocado bacon burger was tasty. The prices are reasonable. $9.79 for a double burger, large fries, and drink combo, a rare low price! The dining room is small but clean and has a 50s vibe. Friendly and fast services!
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Incredibly quick customer service. Didn't get to sit inside since they were closing within the hour, but looks like it has a fun retro vibe. Their tuna salad tasted too sweet due to the proportion of sweet relish used, and the balsamic dressing was more sweet than savory, which added to the feeling of their food being overly sweet. Their chocolate milkshake tasted not super chocolate-y to me at first but then I realized it's more of a chocolate malt flavor - it's pretty good, though not something I would necessarily crave again. After seeing others' reviews, I wish I had instead ordered their fries well done with add-on toppings. Maybe next time if I were passing in the area on foot...

Yelp
Been over 25 years since I have eaten here. Been so long, I don't remember how big of a parking lot is. I remember the Grinder sandwich was great. So ordered the Italian Grinder Combo. WOW, it was GREAT ! Sandwich was good with a little kick. The fries were great. I will be back to try more.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food!!!! Got the jalepeno poppers bacon grilled cheese. It's a fast food joint. Water costs $.5
google avatar

Sandra M.

Yelp
The steak sandwich here is the BEST in Pasadena! If you haven't tried it and you like sandwiches and steak, I would highly recommend this place. All of their menu items taste fresh and delicious.
google avatar

Tiffany R.

Yelp
Connal's Special drink is mine and my husband's favorite beverage, our children also enjoy the specialty drink. The cheeseburger, fries, club sandwich, chili cheese fries, vanilla soft serve are tasty. Connal's is a great place to grab a delicious meal!
google avatar

Phong N.

Yelp
It's an institution in North Pasadena. The pastrami is why one would come here. It's comparable to the hat if not better. I think the meat quality is better. And the bread is not soaked. It is not cheap however. One pastrami with small french fries is $20. When did pastrami sandwich become so costly. There's a small sitting area but mostly it's a take out window. The fries are the large steak fries-type. It's seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I love it. But PRICE is an issue. Come up Hill and Washington for a bite. Bon appetit.
google avatar

J G.

Yelp
Fantastic meal. Very filling. Getting a bit expensive. $24 for sandwich, large fries and soda. Still good eats though. Probably get a burger when you come here.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
I live close by and eat here regularly. This is a great place when you need to eat and do not have a lot of time and can spend $15 I give Connals several prestigious awards Tastiest food Best prices Best music Best 50s diner experience Best burgers Best fries Fastest service Biggest portion of fries Best place to eat for people who want to see Jesus sooner rather than later : ) It would be good to add red ketchup bottles at the tables and Diet Dr Pepper to the drink options

madzie m.

Yelp
Great service and very nice employees. Everything came out quickly and tasted amazing. Definitely recommend the Italian and pastrami grinders.

Tony E.

Yelp
Best Sandwiches in Pasadena. Always busy, Always filling. Reuben sandwich is my go to everytime I come here. I have also had their pastrami and they are very good.

Chris W.

Yelp
First time. I ordered the double cheeseburger special and added chili $11.00. Burgers were thin and tasted precooked. It was hot but if they put on chili it was tasteless 2 slices cheese so good. Wouldn't order it again. Fries fresh good nice and hot fresh excellent. I will try again but will not order a burger.
google avatar

Trav L.

Yelp
Good. Old, iconic burger/sandwich stand. You will find something you like, for sure! I was craving a burger and in the area. I remembered my Grandparents loved this place. It's still around and looks like an original burger joint from the 50's. The menu has so many options! There are seats inside and outdoors. Cozy and cool 'lil spot. Btw- the fries can feed 3 people!

Yelp
Sandwiches by Connal's has been a Pasadena classic for over 60 years, and it's easy to see why. This place knows how to craft some seriously delicious sandwiches that keep people coming back for more. From pastrami to steak, each sandwich is a mouthwatering delight. But that's not all. Connal's onion rings are another delectable treat that's hard to resist. The crispy, savory goodness with just the right touch of salt, are a perfect sidekick to any sandwich. I haven't had the chance to try everything on the menu yet, but I'm determined to do so. The portions are huge, so you definitely get your money's worth. What's impressive is that they don't stop at sandwiches. Connal's also offers burgers, breakfast options and even Mexican food like burritos and tacos. It's a one-stop shop for all your cravings.
google avatar

Jamila P.

Yelp
Perfect sandwich. Didn't need chips or fries or anything with it. Super thick and packed with meat. Did fall apart during the end but thats to be expected of a huge sandwich. The line was short and the service was fast. Not even a ten minute wait. Enjoy!
google avatar

Sena L.

Yelp
Great food and service. Chris is amazing and nice. The food is great. I've tried many things and all were good.
google avatar

Collin A.

Yelp
Quality control is incredible and the service is great. Sandwiches are the perfect size and full of flavor. We went on a whim and have gone back multiple times now.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
I am actually not a vegetarian, however I crave Connal's veggie patty melt weekly! This little place has been around forever, and it seems like it is straight out of the past! The prices are great, and as far as I know there is no sit down service. You park, walk up and grab a bag, and go. Try the french fries! Yum!! May this place live on for another 50 years!

Duke W.

Yelp
Good food but a little pricey. Steak sandwich, Almost $18 by itself no fries or drink.
google avatar

Paul V.

Yelp
1st time here. Steak Sandwich was Tasty. Very surprised. Well definitely come back again!
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Food so good I got too excited and forgot to take a picture--GEEPERS! I added a picture of this fry instead. I'm still salty they tried to take two big quarters for a lil ranch, but it was so affordable otherwise I won't hold it against them.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
I returned some fish that was burnt it appeared it was refried and . The acting manger was not very nice. They did offer me another choice I took the chicken but that's not what I really wanted I ended up just wasting my money I should have took the refund like it was offered. The lady who passed me the food said "here's your food you could check it if you like. I expect an apology and thought they would say I'm so sorry for your inconvenience but no that's not what was done.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Been going to Connals since I was little, and it's the best! I always call early in the morning for their breakfast omelettes, and they never disappoint. I've only been inside a few times but it's cute. A little diner same vibes as like a Ruby's Diner or the Grease movie. The workers are always kind on the phone. I've rarely had any problems with them. Bacon omelette with bell peppers and american cheese ! Trust me!
google avatar

Lesley G.

Yelp
Love this place! Great burgers, and the fries are always A+! Ask for extra seasoning!

Emily O.

Yelp
Cute place with low prices compared to a lot of other diners in LA. Got the cheeseburger and the peanut butter banana shake (recommend both!)
google avatar

Erick G.

Yelp
Connal is a Pasadena classic, open in this community for over 50 years! I use to come here all the time in high school. It's fairly affordable and what brought me here today was how conveniently close it is to my barber's shop. This is all the way up in northern Pasadena on Washington so for me, this is kind of out of the way since I live over by old town Pasadena. Overall, quick and good service for a fast food restaurant. Parking is easy. Food is okay. Nothing spectacular that would make me want to go out of my way to come here. The meat on the pastrami sandwich was very salty and also rubbery. The ranch was very sour and under salted. The fries were absolute perfection. The burger was also pretty delicious. It has an old school burger spot vibe to it which is cool to experience but outside of that, nothing really wow'd me.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
My meeting group usually gets a group take out from this place on Monday evenings. They have tasty burritos. They also have great sandwiches at a good price. The onion rings are also great! Recommended!
google avatar

L. G.

Yelp
This place has been around for as long as I can remember. It's always busy but very well managed. I love their selection and ease of ordering. The people are friendly. My only dislikes are the steak sandwich which tastes like beef jerky lettuce and tomato between soggy bread. The french fries are good but made with a seasoned salt. Everyone seems to like them but I prefer to order (without seasoned salt) and add regular salt.

Dan M.

Yelp
The food is delicious, fast and inexpensive. Definitely try the turkey grinder, but I haven't had anything here that I haven't liked. It's our go to for fast and cheap lunches.
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
I've heard good things from friends in Pasadena and Altadena. I have tried it three times and ordered different sandwiches each time. The word is accurate. That's why you'll see a crowd on the sidewalk each time you go. You order from a window on the street. They also have a dining room. The Philly cheesesteak is fantastic- cheesy, flavorful. Last time I got the steak sandwich. Steak was seasoned perfectly and was tender. I also enjoyed a tasty turkey sando. You can't go wrong at this place. My boyfriend described the roast beef as "flavorful" and was perfectly sliced and "it was not dry at all." He is this roast beef connoisseur so that's saying a lot from him. The prices are reasonable. Oh yeah it may look like a long wait but the service is top notch. You never wait too long. Stop by, grab a sandwich and eat it under a tree in the park. Makes for a good day.
google avatar

Elise P.

Yelp
I love this sandwich spot near my job! I come here pretty often to pick up some lunch before my shift or during my break. I usually call ahead to place an order. Their turkey club sandwiches is my go-to order if I want a light lunch but I also like their shrimp and fish tacos. Staff is friendly and helpful!
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
This is an excellent hole in the wall burger/sandwich place. They have a double cheeseburger combo with a huge sack of fries and a huge soda for $9 with tax. If you're looking for an affordable burger from a non-chain fast food restaurant and like that old school fast food style, you can't do much better than Connal's. This is the kind of place people have been going to for 30 years.
google avatar

Lee B.

Yelp
Friendly, and consistently good food, not a lot more to say. It's a burger joint, decent portion sizes, with a nice sized menu, & reasonable prices. An old school vibe for sure. Plus their fries are pretty killer, seasoned to perfection. Check them out!

Aurora R.

Yelp
Great breakfast burritos! One of the best breakfast burritos I have had! Salsa that came with burritos were very tasty as well.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
Enjoyed my sandwich the first time but second time had what can only be fairly described as food poisoning. Sandwich was tasty but gotta give it the 1 star for the aftermath.
