Austin Bakery Pop-Up Custard Prison Makes Polish Doughnuts Paczki | Eater Austin

"An Austin-based pop-up bakery showcasing Polish baked goods, led by baker Sarah Foremski and a small co-op team that includes Becky Reeves, Mari Maki, and chef Paul Wojciechowsk. The operation specializes in paczki — lush, dense yeasted filled doughnuts that are fluffier and richer than typical brioche-style doughnuts — with adventurous flavors such as maple custard with a salty butter-maple glaze (topped with whipped cream and a cherry), pistachio–white chocolate ganache, rose-glazed strawberry jam with glitter, and blueberry compote with a malted sugar coating; past pop-ups have also included pierogi and other savory items. Foremski draws on experience as a former barista and pastry chef (having worked at places like Little Owl Coffee, Canje, and Epicerie), and both she and Wojciechowsk are Polish, which influences the menu and approach. The team runs regular pop-ups at local venues (including Fleet Coffee) and markets — most recently participating in a Houston fundraiser — operates with a community-minded, co-op ethos focused on shared work and benefits, and has been active fundraising for Palestinian families; they prefer cash at events, provide donation options, and are working to secure a commissary kitchen to make pop-ups more consistent. Upcoming event offerings have included inventive new flavors such as a Garden Goat (goat cheese, strawberry, rosemary), tiramisu, London Fog (Earl Grey and orange), and a Butter Boy featuring gochujang and pickles." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
Visited Connie’s Frozen Custard for ice cream. There was a long line, and I had to wait about 30 minutes for my turn, but it was worth it. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake custard, and it was delicious—creamy, fresh, and full of flavor. Definitely a popular spot and worth the wait! 🍦😊

Google
Our first time trying Connie’s…it was fantastic! Quick service even though they were busy. The custard was super smooth. I liked that they had a bunch of different options of items to add to your ice cream, or just have it plain. I had it plain, and it was delicious. My partner had the banana split, that was very good as well. I felt like everything was priced pretty fairly as well. Definitely would return again!!

Google
The place was super crowded, but totally worth the wait! The ice cream was delicious — rich, creamy, and full of flavor! 🍦💯 Highly recommended :)

Google
The custard was phenomenal. Especially the salted pretzel. Their shakes are very generously sized, the sundaes are splendid. Cannot find a thing. I did not like about this place. Will come here again and again, even though it’s 30 minutes from my house.

Kathi K.

Google
Great product, old fashioned type set up with windows at front for transaction. Super friendly staff. Parking is a little awkward, but manageable. Definitely try their food at least once!

Google
VERY good. Got the Almond, Choco, and Butter Pecan concretes. They were wonderful! The custard is so smooth and luscious! Can't wait to ho back!

Google
I have to say, I am very impressed. It has been a while since I have been in an ice cream place like this. Out of my son's beautiful girlfriend's invitation, we made a quick stop here. Although the parking issue was the only setback, the service, atmosphere, and custard flavor combinations make up for this place's unique and nostalgic feel. It was our first time, but it won't be the last. Two traditional custard flavors, vanilla and chocolate, with a variety of good old-fashioned or modern combinations that will satisfy the most demanding of customers. The best experience was the welcoming interaction with the lady at the register, who I assumed was the manager or maybe the owner. Yet everyone else seemed happy working with a smile. Even on a cold and weathered day like ours, the place seemed reasonably busy, and I can attest to why: a wonderful product served in a nostalgic atmosphere by patrons who care. Lovely.

Google
My first time here. Classic custard spot with tons of choices. I had the concrete mixer with vanilla and Heath. It was great. Karla had the Strawanna sundae and she will go back for more. Cat had cookie dough and banana in concrete mixer which is her go to. Long lines at the window and in the drive thru, but moves quickly. Limited outdoor seating but you should try it if you have not.

Yelp
I mean...it's the real deal, legit custard. The best. Hands down. You could eat it on a flip flop, but you don't have to because they have lots of great ways to get that custard-y yumminess into your face hole. Service is always fast and attentive. Take it to-go or stand around and eat it outside. Can't go wrong. Might I recommend the Texas tornado with extra strawberries?

Yelp
I wasn't a frozen treat fan, but Connie's has officially converted me. The creamy texture of frozen custard is unparalleled. I get it now. The custard comes in either vanilla or chocolate, and you can have it plain or order it in the form of a concrete, sundae, shake, freeze, or float. Their toppings and mix-in options feel endless, so there's always something to like or new to try. The concept is simple, but far from boring. There's both a walk-up counter and a drive-thru. I've seen both lines get pretty long especially on weekends, but service is always polite and surprisingly efficient. I only wish the outdoor seating was a little more pleasant. It's right by the street, so cars are always loudly whizzing by and the surrounding area isn't very pleasing to behold. Nevertheless, it's nice to sit a while and enjoy your custard before it melts. - Ambiance: 3/5 - Food: 5/5 - Service: 5/5

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because visit #2 was much better. --- --- --- Recently, my wife shared Connie's with me and was excited to check them out. I saw hundreds of reviews and a stellar rating and had no further questions. It happened to work out that a few days later, we were in Houston, and she suggested we go a bit out of our way to Cypress to try out that custard place she just found. While not really convenient, I'm always down for some highly rated sweets. As we were on our way, I opened the Yelp listing to find... we had already been there before and I gave it 3-stars. Not only that, but there was so much drama on our drive here: multiple accidents, my wife missing exits, remembering that we actually had to make another stop in the Woodlands before we got home, making this trek even more inconvenient. But even with all of that working against us, we still enjoyed Connie's much more this time. I opted for the cookie butter concrete and gobbled it up illegally fast. My wife was disappointed that they did not have the most basic topping, chocolate chips, but really enjoyed her cherry, strawberry chocolate concoction. My biggest gripe remains something that seems pretty easy to solve: a menu that is readable for people in the passenger seat. But the custard is enjoyable, so don't let that prevent you from visiting. Stay away from the concrete with whole pretzels in it and you'll be a-ok.

Yelp
Houston, we have a problem. Recently relocated, I'm now alot closer to Connie's. I guess this is great news for Connie's and horrible news for my doctor. In Houston, custard is somewhat of a rarity. I can name 3-4 shops in the entire greater Houston area that can get you your fix, but by far Connie's offers the most variety when it comes to custard. Concretes, signature concretes, sundays, shakes, floats, splits, pints, and ofcourse scoops, they have it all. While it's difficult to pick a treat, my tried and true is still their turtle sund, chocolate custard, and toasted pecans. There's no escaping the heat at this spot (there is no indoors), but the ice cream helps.

Yelp
So good I had to come back before the end of my 4-day Houston trip! I discovered this place after craving a sweet treat after eating at Captain Tom's because it was highly rated on Google reviews. We got a Texas Tornado concrete the first time, and a Cookie Butter & Biscoff. Definitely recommend the Cookie Butter one; the little pieces of Biscoff on top were so good! Texas Tornado wasn't fully mixed well so I just got huge chunks of strawberry at the bottom. The custard is truly delectable and rich in the best way; I just got the single scoop on a waffle cone because I just wanted to enjoy the custard fully. The staff works super quick and the line moves very fast. I ordered at the pick-up window but they also have a small drive through area; I feel like its a tight space with cars coming in/out so we just park and walk in. Highly recommend for a sweet treat in the Texas heat!

Yelp
I love CONNIE'S!!! I usually come here Saturday afternoon after getting my lashes done further down Jones road. My favorite is the fudge and caramel sundae with extra pecans - SO GOOD!!!! I think it's called JB something. I have only deviated from this once to the all fudge sundae with the brownies on the bottom, which was good as well. Always friendly service and the line moves pretty fast.

Tori R.

Yelp
Connie's is my favorite ice cream shop. Staff is patient and kind. They are very informative about what's on the menu.
google avatar

Carolina S.

Yelp
The absolute best Custard I've ever had! I ordered a vanilla custard with a brownie, cookie dough and marshmallow cream. The brownie was warm and fudgey, the custard was creamy and silky and the topping put it all over the edge! My husband ordered a delicious cookies and cream shake. The drive through is always busy with cars in and out. Amazing place!
google avatar

Maritza Z.

Yelp
The BEST frozen treat around! I've been coming here since I was in high school & it's just as good. Every time we have family or friends from out of town we have to bring them to Connie's! Connie's NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!!

Dixie S.

Yelp
Delicious treat!!! The strawberry shortcake is wonderful. I wish there was a branch near us!!

Bre L.

Yelp
love this place!! cypress icon. I can always trust connie's to be open when my sweets cravings hit!

Yelp
Cute little custard spot. Has diff desserts and all such reasonable pricing for today's time. Service was quick too. Line was crazy in the drive thru but they managed. Filled my family of 10 for $30 wild! Custard in a cone 5/5 So creamy and tasty, all for 2.99! Biscoff 5/5 Oo this was good. I only tried a bit but was wanting more. Peanut something 3/5 It's a personal rating. I would say if you love peanuts 5/5. For me it was very strong and I like peanuts but not as an ice cream flavor.
google avatar

Joe H.

Yelp
Wow. Price, taste, portions, speed, and service can't be beat. I've been through the drive-through and waited in line when both were long. Waiting in line is way faster even if it is long. I always get the brownie sundae and it is traditional, nothing fancy just the way I like it. Brownie, ice cream, hot fudge. I think you can also add whip cream but I always forget. Definitely not the place to go to if you are on a diet. Regardless my family loves it. 5.
google avatar

Bryan M.

Yelp
I love this place! I tend to come here often. The staff is always nice and fast! The custard always taste amazing. It's a very nice and chill atmosphere
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
So just happened to come here on a whim! I love soft served but custard is a shot in. The dark for me. Well Connie's was definitely a win! It wasn't too thick or thin like the perfect amount of creamy and flavorful Loved that you can add your own toppings I got the regular custard with mixed nuts and heath bar. It was delicious and they mixed it so well every bite had pieces.
google avatar

Shenal T.

Yelp
This place is very tasty! Perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. Pricing is also very reasonable. They have drive thru and walk up option for ordering. I ordered the turtle split which is basically a turtle sundae with a banana. It was huge with PLENTY of toppings. They're very generous on toppings here. Service was okay, they were per busy when we came so not much interaction. I would come again and recommend to any frozen custard lovers.

Chirag P.

Yelp
Amazing Custard! Every time my family visits from San Antonio, this is our go-to stop. The custard is always fresh, creamy, and absolutely delicious. It's become a tradition for us, and it never disappoints!
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
She has different sizes now. A lot more variety in products. Her staff and custard is amazing. Still small but worth it to make the drive.
google avatar

Jeremy L.

Yelp
First time to try Connie's based on a friend's recommendation and it was a home run! I was sure I would like frozen custard, but the flavor was perfect and I was pleased on how fast my concrete order was ready. I had the cookie butter & biscoff.
google avatar

Randy A.

Yelp
Absolutely awesome! From custard to topping everything they make is best in Houston! Glad I don't live closer I'd weigh 500 lbs!
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Delicious and creamy Great price and fast service We opt for the drive thru but standing in line is quicker

Yelp
Looking for the best concrete custard in Cypress? Connie's Custard is the place to go! My personal favorite--and the one that keeps me coming back--is the Texas Tornado. It's a heavenly blend of fresh vanilla custard, ripe strawberries, and melted chocolate chips. Seriously, how can it get any tastier? They offer so many delicious flavor combinations, making it hard to choose just one! While seating is limited to a few outdoor tables, I love that they have a drive-thru--it makes grabbing a treat super convenient. Plus, it's perfect for taking to one of the beautiful nearby parks to enjoy. Highly recommend giving this place a try!
google avatar

Jackie G.

Yelp
This place is consistently delish. I wanted an extra treat before my spa appointment and this did the trick. Fast food window was fast and friendly.
google avatar

Cynthia E.

Yelp
Ok, so I passed by this place a couple of times. Each time I drove by, it was super hot and custard sounded really good. So one day I just decided to try it! That day I was craving a chocolate chip cookie as well, so I actually decided on the vanilla custard chocolate chip cookie sandwich. The sandwich itself was great. Unfortunately, it comes prepackaged and frozen solid, so it was extremely hard when I first got it. I literally had to put it on top of my hot car for a couple of minutes for it to get a little softer so I could eat it. It doesn't melt like ice cream, so it took a while to get soft. The cookie actually tasted fresh and the custard was perfect - not too sweet but nice and creamy. I do want to go back and try a concrete though!
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Lady at the front was rude and has a bad attitude. Also made our order wrong. We watched them through the window and she wanted to argue with us saying it had hot chocolate Fudge when we are watching them. Sad to see an amazing Houston staple business decline due to poor customer service.
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
Love desserts?! You have to try Connie's! It's a long-time local favorite. Hands down the best ice cream / custard in Houston! We go here whenever family is in town and for the occasional weekend treat! The drive-thru typically has a line during peak hours, be prepared. But, we always park and enjoy our treats on the outdoor patio. I love their hot fudge sundae!
google avatar

Mary G.

Yelp
Best place for REAL ice cream. I'm from Texas and I know what people say about the other ice cream place in Brenham. I'm telling you Connie's is the BEST ever. My fav is the Texas Turtle Sundae. YUM! The young people serving you are on their game, they don't mess around. And honestly nice kids too! Anyone I bring here says it's the best they've had. #conniescustardisthebest

Yelp
What drew me to Connie's was that they offer hourly fresh custard. I came here with 3 other people for a sweet treat. I was surprised they had a drive thru. We parked and walked up though. I got their Pretzel Caramel Concrete. A portion was rather large and I definitely was not able to finish it. The salty pretzels gave it a nice salty and sweet taste. And I liked that the crunch of the pretzel gave my custard an interesting contrast. I enjoyed it except it was way too sweet for my liking. I also was able to try their Butter Pecan Concrete which was also good. But their vanilla concrete in general is way too sweet for me. This spot doesn't have an in door area to sit down or anything. They just have their drive thru and a few benches out in front to enjoy your treat, which is fine. Our orders came out pretty quickly. The staff was really nice. I do want to come back and try their malts.

Yelp
There's a lot of nostalgia with walk up ice cream shops for me and this one is no exception. After seeing them highlighted as a must eat summer treat an adventure was to be had. It's a corner establishment with about 4-5 parking spaces on one side and additional parking toward the back. The drive through takes up one side and I could definitely see this intruding on the closest parking if line got long. Prices are affordable (and that's cash prices). My advice bring cash you save about 5% and I get it credit card fees are a ridiculous burden on businesses and often times are rolled into much higher product prices. So I'll take cheaper on my pocket prices any day. And the sign clearly states they are cash prices. And hey go during happy hour you get extra 10% off (Mon-Thur 3-6PM) A child sundae (single scoop) is $1.46, a medium (3 scoops) is $2.98. Note here is my one price point I wasn't found of, add ins are an $1.00. My daughter added strawberries because well it's custard so there aren't "flavors" like ice cream there are add ins. But given a child sundae was so inexpensive it seems a mute complaint. My order was a regular pretzel caramel concrete. Fresh vanilla custard blended with caramel and crunchy pretzels $5.84. It was delicious. There custard is creamy and rich and the don't skimp on the caramel or big chunks of salty pretzels. Seating is very limited and given how the sun is hitting the shop you may go running back to your car for AC so you don't melt as fast as your custard. This shop is indeed a great establishment for a summer visit & treat to cut the bite of the Texas heat.

Yelp
Was looking for a local dessert place and saw the many positive reviews for Connie's! We came on a rainy night and the drive through line seemed like it would never end. There are a few benches outside and a standing area near the ordering windows, no seats inside - but it's all part of the experience! The employees who work here are awesome and took time to answer our questions in detail. We got lucky that there wasn't a line when we came because of the rainy weather, but even if there were, it's certainly worth the wait. Concretes come in pre mixed flavors or your topping (flavor) of choice mixed with either vanilla or chocolate custard. There's a good selection and you really can't go wrong with any. The shake/malt is basically the same as the concrete but with a bit of added shake milk which makes the consistency more "drinkable", though it was still super thick - not complaining though! I am a banana flavor fan, so I tried the vanilla based with banana topping which came out to taste like banana milk. I loved it and I wish they had more locations around Houston! Affordable prices, hefty portions, and pure deliciousness!

Yelp
WE LOVE CONNIE'S! We ended our festivities on Friday with a smile, stopping by Connie's! It was hot, sunny and we wanted Frozen Custard for dessert! I wanted simple and clean so a vanilla cone for me. The Boy got the Ice Cream Sandwich he had been talking about! MrM got the Texas Carmel Turtle, a fav! Connie's never disappoints! The area is always clean. The benches are nice on sunny days. You do have to be prepared to wait in the drive thru or walk up line, sometimes for a hot minute. But once you've had Connie's, your taste buds will never be the same! Fair warning... frozen custard doesn't travel well in the heat! Ours was a lil melty when we got home. You can always toss back in the freezer for a few..... but who wants to wait?!? Honestly, it almost seemed even better than usual! Happy Mother's Day, y'all!
google avatar

Blanca D.

Yelp
Great service and the custard with fresh raspberries strawberries was a hit with the grandkids - thanks we will be back
google avatar

Araceli E.

Yelp
I recently downloaded my Yelp app again, so I am going through a rating binge of all my favorites. Connie's Frozen Custard (and other desserts) is simply the best tasting dessert place there is. I don't think I've been to get ice cream anywhere else since I've known about Connie's. If there is ever any reason to celebrate, go to Connie's. Feel like treating yourself? Go to Connie's. Feeling down, depressed, down trodden? Go to Connie's. Want to cool down in this nasty Houston weather? Go to Connie's. Seriously, you see all these stars and reviews, this is your sign to go now! Service is fast, quick, friendly.

Yelp
I have never eaten an ice cream so fast. RUN don't walk. Both the vanilla and chocolate custards are phenomenal. Perfect for an afternoon pick me up or late night indulgence. So refreshing throughout the Houston heat. The people are so kind and speedy. And the shop is absolutely adorable. Happiness in a cup \o/

Hieu P.

Yelp
Good vibe and really good frozen custard ice cream. I just got their plain vanilla but it tasted great.
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
We come here often!!!! Love this place, it's always packed! The drive-thru is always long, I do suggest getting out and ordering it's faster even if there's a line. The custards are good I typically get Vanilla Concrete with brownie and Cheesecake Service is always good, kids work hard and they stay busy! Pricing is a bit high but it's so good. There's also lots of options!!
google avatar

Rafael W.

Yelp
This place is so good their strawberry cheesecake custard is the best and the Business. I'm still giving it five stars even though you often encounter a long line because it's that good.
google avatar

Micheal W.

Yelp
The Butter Pecan is 16oz of deliciousness!! The anticipation is indescribable after you place the order and pay. I love to see it being handed to me through the window, but I hate to get to the last scoop in the cup before it's gone! :) I was thinking about this sweet treat for about 2 weeks and now that I have 4 scoops left, my soul is weak. I will return again like I never left, Connie's Custard , your treats are the best. Thanks for the great service and delicious Butter Pecan.
google avatar

Maegan B.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday evening with all the kids and we all enjoyed it. Husband and I got the JB Texas Turtle sundae which was delicious. Kids got sundaes and picked their own toppings. Custard was creamy and tasteful, not overly sweet. Probably the best we've had. Would have given 5 stars if there was more seating. There was about 3 feet of benches that aren't in the direct sun, two women were sitting on that so we stood under the tree. But additional shaded seating is much needed especially with ice cream
google avatar

Kirsten D.

Yelp
Connie's Custard is always good. It's never not been good. The custard is not super sweet and it's wonderfully creamy. The service always good too. I'd love to write more but that all that needs to be said. This place is great and I recommend it to everyone. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable too.
google avatar

Sherman O.

Yelp
9/16/2023: I probably come here at least once a month of the family. Definitely a wonderful treat delicious flavors and roll rich and creamy custard. Highly recommended and look forward to always coming back. Be patient as there is almost always a line whether it's coming to the window or through the drive-through. Definitely worth the wait. We waited 30 minutes before and during Covid waited. Probably somewhere close to around 45 minutes. It's worth a Treat Family loves it.

Ann H.

Yelp
It's a fun place to get sweet treats on a hot day! The frozen yogurt is delicious fresh homemade and you can build your own treat!!
google avatar

Cindy D.

Yelp
The BEST dessert spot ever. I've had just about everything on the menu & I can never decide on what my new favorite is. The turtle split is great for sharing & the cookie butter biscoff is to DIE FOR! I'll never get tired of this place. Love the new spin of having new flavors every season, please keep that up!
google avatar

Quyen L.

Yelp
classic american custard place. it's a go-to in the northwest houston area and you'll see why. the quality, service, and pricing is great. the only "con" is the parking situation during peak times of the year aka during the summer.

Amy A.

Yelp
We had a great time as always. It's hard to be Connies custard when it comes to finding a great local treat. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Taylar W.

Yelp
My family absolutely loves it here. The custard is delicious. All of our kiddos love it!
google avatar

Cynthia V.

Yelp
Delicious gem! We went a little out of the way to try this place out as a sweet treat on a hot Summer afternoon, and we are sure glad we did! We both opted for small concretes; they have tons of mix-ins for you to choose from or select one of their pre-determined combos. If you want just plain custard, they have that as well! Along with hand crafted sodas, floats, etc...basically anything you can dream of that can be made with their delicious custard.
google avatar

Benji M.

Yelp
TLDR: Nice local frozen custard! Good simple family outing. Got the tex and straw-anna sundae!

Luis C.

Yelp
Great custard, good service, and they're fast. Come here anytime I have a sweet tooth. It's a little bit of a drive, but it's worth jt
