I had a great experience with Rocio for my Dual Nationality/ Registro Civil process. She was very kind and went above and beyond to help me. The process was very smooth. There was a point where her coworkers were talking loudly in her shared office and she asked them to lower their voices (they were being loud). Thank you Rocio!! One star off for the front of the line and screening person. It is confusing where you should line up if you have an appointment. The screening person that checks your items before you walk in was being flirty and it was gross.

Unable to give them 0 stars. Security guards think they own the place, they talk to you like if you were stupid. My parents had a 10 am appointment and the guards, even though we told them we had an appointment, wouldn’t let them inside. Once my parents were called in, the guards didn’t let me go in with them and my mom needs assistance walking and my pops is partially blind. VERY BAD SERVICE. Hopefully we don’t have to go back.

Some of the employees are super nice and helpful, others are not : / they didn't let me bring my stainless steel water bottle inside - because it had iced tea : / I think they should upgrade their waiting list to something like the dmv system. As opposed to the employees just calling out your name out loud - this way the wait would be much MUCH SHORTER, in my opinion.

We had a good experience. The lady that helped us was very knowledgeable and willing to help. We went on last week of June and it was amazing. We showed up july 3 and it was very busy. So experiences will vary.

I had an appointment with the consulate today and the Mabely was very helpful. Definitely recommend having ALL your papaerwork ready, otherwise you'll be turned away. Thank you for helping me with my request today.

Unfortunately, you can’t give them no stars. 😡 The whole system is so convoluted but expected from any government agency. In order to make an appointment for dual nationality certain documents need to be submitted for review. According to the consulate it makes the process so much smoother and faster. Wishful thinking 🤔 Once “reviewed”, you get an email confirming your appointment because it means your documents are A- okay 👍. If it’s your first appointment only one person from the group needs to be there, which would have been nice to know. ( I made 3 separate appointments, one for myself and each of my adult kiddos. So they took it as a family appointment, which it wasn’t. I was told they each needed to be there because they are adults.) Now for the fun part of this ordeal. When you pass security, they point towards a location. However, there are 3 possible places that you can go, so good luck figuring it out on the first try. You’ll need to ask the security guy if he is at the door which leads to another room full of people or up the stairs. I was sent up to the second floor and told to follow the orange line but that was the wrong line. I asked one of the workers and he directed me to a room but you guessed it, wrong line again. Only one other possible place and yes! My appointment was for 9:00 but they were behind on the appointments by 40 minutes. Finally I get called by a worker who acted like she was the bees knees. It all went to Hades after that. My paperwork was all wrong, need to change my ID, passport and birth certificate. They didn’t like my birth certificate because it’s not the new blue paper one, crazy I know. And my ID and passport have an added middle name which they are reading as a last name, crazier indeed. So now we start all over again because I’ll need to schedule another appointment which took me close to a month to get the first one. So what should you know and have ready if you need to visit the wonderful Mexican consulate on 6th street in L.A. — 1. $15 for parking 2. A load of patients 3. Be prepared to visit multiple windows to get one thing done 4. Make sure all your paperwork has exactly the same name (spelling and spacing of said name) yes, if your name is for example Del La Cruz and one doc says DelLaCruz- you’re screwed. 5. All paperwork needs to be clear- like it just come off the press- doc is folded and one of the letters is not as dark as the others- screwed 6. Expect to come back for part 2 of the process- yes, hell on earth indeed. That last one will take about 3 hours give or take. If you are lucky maybe 2 but don’t count on it. 7. Cash only baby they don’t take credit. 💵 8. Make sure you have snacks and drinks ready for consumption while you wait. I hope I covered all pertinent information and your visit goes a lot smoother. If one person has a better experience because of my review I’ve done my one good deed for the day. Wish you luck! 🍀

Google
An absolute disgrace. Heartless, disorganized, and hostile toward the disabled. The Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles should be ashamed of how it treats people — especially elders and the disabled. I brought my elderly father, who is handicapped and in visible distress, to resolve a nationality matter backed by original documents. We were both treated with cold indifference and open hostility. Despite being told in advance this would be handled through the “special cases” window, we were stonewalled by gatekeepers who acted like we were trying to scam our way in. We were interrogated, humiliated, and nearly turned away — not because of our paperwork, but because of an old clerical inconsistency the consul didn’t even bother to review seriously. Once inside, we were rushed, talked over, and dismissed by a staff member who barely glanced at our documents. No attempt was made to understand the context, no help was offered to accommodate our physical needs, and no humanity was shown whatsoever. My father left exhausted, disrespected, and deeply hurt. This is not bureaucracy — it’s cruelty disguised as procedure. If you or your family members are elderly, disabled, or simply in need of genuine help, do not go here alone. Bring a lawyer, a witness, or a camera, because you will be treated like garbage unless you fight for basic decency. I came here hoping to reconnect my father with his country. What I found was an institution that seems to have forgotten what that country is supposed to stand for.

Google
Worst place to come , from the security to the front counter, they belittle you and don’t talk to you with no respect like they’re doing you a favor. No snacks are allowed they’ll make you thrown them away .They forced me to take my water and snacks back to my car and made me stand in line again!!! My parents needed help and I was not allowed to assist them or talk to them, they put a stamp on your hand if you don’t have an appointment .Parking is 20$ across the street. The security guy checked every single pocket in my bag even my money .The woman kept yelling at an older lady, “ senora no me estas entendiendo”! These are the worst people to deal with, no wonder their reviews are horrible!!

Yelp
Security guards aren't so nice but everyone else working in the office were great! I made my appointment to become a Mexican citizen in February of 2025 and didn't get it scheduled until October 2025. It's definitely a process but well worth it.

Yelp

I hope the rest of my experience with the Mexican Consulate is of the same quality. We Mexicans have a certain warmth and friendliness that we should continue to cultivate and apply in life. Thank you, Julia Veronica. It's encouraging and refreshing to interact with people like you.

Yelp

GRACIAS, GRACIAS, GRACIAS

Yelp
I had a very good experience at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles. I had gone to start the process of dual citizenship. My appointment was at 11:00 AM and I went in right away. Once I was in the main office on the 3rd floor, I was greeted by Veronica who verified all of my documents and approved them. I was then set up with another appointment to sign paperwork and finalize the procedure. The time came for that appointment and everything went smoothly. The paperwork was signed, my fingerprints were taken, and the procedure was finalized. I went the following day to pickup my birth certificate which officially finalized the procedure. I'm only giving it 4 out of 5 stars because the security there can have a little of a power trip and question you a little too much. Overall, I had a great experience.

Yelp
My husband went today and had an appointment at 11:30 am, got there at 10:30 am and got off at 1:40 pm. Be ready and patient to wait. Also make sure you have two different Mexican identification or they will send you home. There's no public parking, across the street there is one $5.00 per 15 mins so be ready for that too. Oh and only the person that needs to do any processing is allowed inside. I left 3 stars because of the waiting and guests waited outside on the streets, be careful a lot of homeless people were around.

Yelp
Worst service, the same lazy and corrupted governmental Mexican system is now present in the United States. Slow process and office personnel walking around doing nothing and just pretending to be working and moving in slow motion like time doesn't mean anything to them. The Mexican Consulate sees the Mexican People with a sign of money in their forehead as soon as they step in their premises to file and apply for any single document. Many times you hear these office personnel giving hard excuses to the people, making it hard for them to get the documents they need.

Yelp
A lot of bad reviews on here, but it was a pretty decent experience for me. As long as you have all the necessary documents and everything matches as it should (names on all documents) then everything will go smoothly. I did my dual citizenship and the process was pretty straightforward. I recommend getting there early (30 minutes before your appointment) just in case they are able to see you early. Parking is $20 directly across the street. I still have to make an additional appointment for my passport and INE so I'm hoping those go as well as my previous appointments.

Yelp

Yelp
I went to my appointment today at 7:15 am There are multiple parking areas expect to pay $5- $20 Take your own Pen and go by yourself if you are the one requesting documents. The reason of my review is because the lady that helped me get my passport today, waisted 15 minutes of my time by just changing windows ( because her chair was too high) long story short she took her sweet time just to move to the next window to end up keeping the same chair that was too high for her then when it was finally time to process my document she didn't even know how to use the software she is supposed to be experienced with. She asked the clerk next to her for assistance and the other clerk had some nasty attitude her body language and verbal language were just unjustified. Then the lady assisting me had to go and look for another clerk just to help her print out some copies. And the whole time she was just very uptight giving me attitude and with zero people skills. Keep in mind I tried to stay calm and patient with this women.

Yelp
Terrible customer service!!! Over 1+ hour on the phone (424) 309-0009. calling for weeks. I have been trying for 1 month now. I finally made an appointment 04/11/2024 on the internet. I selected "Passport (wrong)" for dual citizenship. The female security guard said since I selected the wrong option on the internet. I have to come back for selecting the wrong option.. After 1 hours wait. The line starts at 5:45am. I was turned away at the office. I was supposed to select "Registor Civil" (correct selection). I paid $20.00 parking. Now I have to start all over again. Days & days calling and trying to get a date to get my documents for my mother's Mexican citizenship in order to receive dual citizenship. Very poor service. * If you get lucky to pass all the requirements. Bring a 2 passport photos *Bring copies of everything!! This organization will be kind and copy your documents for you.

Yelp
Where do I start. I had an appointment to get my passport but they said I was missing a document. OK. I took the day off work again and returned the next day with the requested document. Well, after several hours and numerous lines, it turns out they wanted me to go through another process that would take months to resolve. It would have been nice if they told me from the start. These are the most inconsiderate people I have even encountered. I'm not sure if it's incompetence or ignorance or both, but either way, terrible, terrible people. Thing is, I actually told them how terrible and dumb they were and I don't think they really cared. You would expect them to treat paisanos a little better but they suck. Even when it comes to organizing the wait lines. There was no organization. They DID NOT care and there was absolutely no coordination. If they direct you to line #13, good luck to you. Why? Because you're going to be in a large room and you're not going to know how many people are assigned to line 13. Welcome to the cattle call. You'll be waiting for hours. They should at least invest in a number system to streamline the process. But, they don't, because they know no one will call them on it. The sheep will continue to come, pay the fees and never complain. I was actually ashamed of this shole. I told my parents about my experience and this level of poor service is not uncommon in Mexico's Bureaucracy. Third world country tihs. Zero stars.

Yelp
Surprisingly efficient and relatively quick. I was here on September 21, 2023 to get my INE. You MUST have an appointment to be seen here, appointments are very to make as you send a message to 424-309-0009 via WhatsApp and you answer the questions being asked before you are given a list of appointments available at the location nearest you for whatever service you need. There is a parking lot directly across the street from the consulate. The fee is $20 CASH. The consulate opens at 7:00 AM and I had an appointment at 8:00 AM. At approximately 6:45 AM, a security guard came out and informed those in line that only the person with the appointment would be allowed in the consulate and then started processing people in line asking what time their appointment was scheduled and what service they were here for. The line was relatively quick and I was past the consulate gates at around 6:55 AM. From there, I passed through a security checkpoint that appeared more for show than anything else as my belongings were not x-rayed nor was I made to pass through any sort of scanner or metal detector; I was simply directed to line up behind windows staffed by 2 consulate employees. Once I got to the window, my documents were reviewed and I was told I needed a certified copy of my mother's birth certificate, although there was no mention of this on the consulate website, and I was sent inside to wait for an employee so I could pay $18 for a birth certificate. I waited for what seemed like an eternity before the employee arrived and announced that perhaps birth certificates would be unavailable as the system hadn't worked since the day before and he was having trouble logging in. After more waiting, I was called up to his window, he entered my information into his system and I was sent upstairs to pay the $18 for the birth certificate. I came back down, showed him my receipt and was given the birth certificate. Back outside to the windows where I started and the gentleman who inspected my documents. Now that I had everything required, my documents were placed in a clear plastic envelope and I was given a number and told to go back inside to wait until I was called. From getting a number to being seen by another employee was about a 20 minute wait. Once being seen by the employee, she questioned why I wanted my INE versus my Mexican passport and proceeded to go and on about why I should get my passport rather than my INE. Despite her "encouragement" I proceeded with my INE. She entered all my information into her system, took my picture and fingerprints, and reviewed the final form with me. From there, she kept all my documents and told me that everything had to be reviewed once more and directed me to another set of chairs to wait for my documents to be returned to me. I waited about another 10-15 minutes before my name was called, I was told everything was in order, and that I would receive my INE at my home address within 2 months. Start to finish, the entire process took about 2 hours. As I was walking back to my car, there was a woman selling fresh squeezed orange juice for $5 a glass. It was delicious. Overall, I was really surprised about how easy this was despite having to purchase a document that wasn't officially required. Some things to note, copies of your documents ARE NOT required as consulate staff will make copies of whatever they need to send along with your application. Bring a pen with you in case you need to fill out a surprise form. Pens are available at each window. Credit and debit cards are accepted with the exception of Discover and AMEX as well as cash.

Yelp

No customer service. They changed my appointment 10 times already. The worst part is they call me the morning of. Spoke to two "supposedly " managers and gave me appointments but STILL change it last minute. This place is a joke. They don't care about their people. Going in with a lawyer next.

Yelp
If I could give this place no stars, I would. Their customer service is terrible, and you can never finalize anything unless you go there 20 times.

Yelp
To start off, if you don't have the right documents don't even expect to come in and get help. They don't care if you drove 3 hours they don't care if you had an appointment for the longest( as they're hard to get). First of all the lady in the front as you enter shes straight up rude for no reason you'll hand her a document and she'll swipe it off your hand. Second the women who attended me in the booth was also rude. As she was doing my paperwork i asked her a question she then tells me she did my paperwork wrong because I distracted her by asking her the question lol not my fault. Also the wait here is so long expect to stay the whole day here and prepare some snacks because sometimes they wont let you out. Also, make sure your phone is on silent or you'll piss off the security guards.

Yelp

Yelp
I went this morning to get my Covid booster at 8am and I was told that they don't have any by a security guard. And I showed her proof on my phone on the County website, that said they were going to be giving Covid vaccines, Flu, and another different vaccine. I didn't believe the security guard, so I asked if I could speak to the person in charge of that, it's like something was just not right. I also told her that if they are not giving out Covid vaccines, that they should put a sign outside stating that, because others will be arriving and will be disappointed. Very unorganized the Mexican Consulate are!!!

Yelp
Don't even bother. What they tell you over the phone is going to be completely different in person because it's a call center and you know how the Latin government communicates so well! Shitty ass website too.

Yelp
I will be leaving a 3 stars, although it deserves a 1 only. For the reason that the lady that helped us at the outside window was extremely dismissive. After explaining her my issue all she said was I didn't know, guard was told but not me. I was with my dad for a a renewal and we were never told that there was a separate line for handicap until we were all the way in the front. He has a prosthetic leg and is partly blind. However, Teresita is a lady at the inside window who was extremely professional, kind and understanding, made my father's process more pleasant. She made this review a solid 3. Her service was above and beyond. Thank you Teresita for your service.

Yelp

Yelp
I've dealt with the Mexican consulate a few times in Los Angeles and the consulate on wheels in plaza Mexico. What I've learned is BRING EVERYTHING you have that you believe is relevant ! I tried to get a passport first time with on wheels consulate in long beach and I didn't have all the docs so the official told me the long list of items I needed. At the time I had no identification at all, so I had to bring a few item from school. He didn't mention to bring my high school diploma and I took it anyway day of Los Angeles visit . And guess what ? They asked for it ! So bring all you have. Things might be different now since most people can get CA licenses BUT BE PREPARED. So if your unsure of what to bring then go to a local on wheels consulate before making a trip to LA. Here is the link to on wheels locations and dates. You can get a passport and matricula at these locations also so a trip to LA isn't necessary if that's what you need but in my case I had to go to LA . https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/losangeles/index.php/consuladosobreruedascalendario The officials are generally unfriendly but what do you expect from government employees. BRING A PEN AND COPIES of all your stuff but you'll survive if you forget . Across the street off Park view there is a parking lot with a guy in a trailer who does COPIES. And a man sells pens outside but I asked to borrow one . THEY ALLOW PHONES but put on silent . They have RESTROOMS. I attached several photos with info I collected there . You can look for street PARKING or pay 15 dollars on Park view right across See photos for info I collected. Read below if you want info on temporary vehicle permit to enter mexico : Im not sure if this process can be taken care of on wheels so we went to LA on 11\27\2017. They really stress having an appointment and generally it's better but they will help without appt. (For now) . You get priority with appt. I attached a photo on how to make an appt. They asked for the following : _Green card or Mexican passport . The lady yelled that they no longer take the credencial as a form ID. _PROOF of ownership A debit or credit card under the owners name to charge deposit Please see attached photos for info on rented cars and other info. We took 2 hours to finish process I attached photos with info I collected there Also this process can be done online now. See photo I attached UPDATE: I did this process online on 11/19/2018 It was fairly easy but you do need a scanner to upload your documents. It will ask for the document number for the green card and that means you put your alien number. ADD THE "A" FIRST or the system will say its an error. I didn't receive a confirmation email but I saw the charge on my credit card the next day so I hoped all was well. At the end it says that it will be delivered in 11 labor days. It arrived on the 24th which was really fast. It was sent from Dallas using priority mail. It included the permit and the sticker that goes on your car. You are given a folio number so keep that safe, If something goes wrong I believe you can take this folio number to the banjercitos at the border and they will give you the permit. Also this folio number can be used to check the status of the permit on the website Hope all this helps and good luck !

Yelp
The worst service ever. They won't help you at all even if you have the paperwork that you need. It's so sad to say that between our own race we can be treated so badly. Seems like we are the race that doesn't allow ourselves to grow because we tear each other down and today was a prime example of that going to the Mexican Consulado. Security Guards threatened not to help ppl cause they have the power in their hands so sad.

Yelp

Yelp
Worst service EVER!!! No one is on the same page with information or requirements whether in person, online or over the phone. I called and double checked online to make sure I had everything so I could be helped when providing documents for double citizenship; only to miss and waste an entire day of work and get ZERO accomplished. I asked if I could go and bring back the missing birth certificate (I was told twice I didn't need) since it took me about six months just to get the appt for her to tell me "no you'll have to call and schedule another appt for me to review your documents again". Also, she very conveniently couldn't verify any of the ORIGINAL AND OFFICIALLY STAMPED DOCUMENTS I provided either. Huge waste of time and energy, I think I'll just take the drive and do it in Mexico or at a different consulate.

Karen B.

Yelp
Terrible service!! Make sure to bring all paperwork and name is correct and the same on ALL paperwork or they won't take you, you'll waste your time! They don't care at all!

Yelp

Yelp
The wait is beyond ridiculous!! If I could give 0 zero stars I would. Waste of time to make an appointment and still wait hours!!

Yelp
Went there to do some paperwork with my Father and we made an appointment which made a made everything streamlined. Everything is computerized now which before if you remember when it wasn't made things prolong and you had to make repeat visits. Parking across the street a quick walk of course you go through security like the airport scanner. They always tell you where to go and the ticket screens not only tell you where you go but it matches your number to the counter number so you don't get confused. We had a lot to do there but we were in and out in two hours which made me very happy and we completed our task with no return visit needed.

Yelp
Disgusting phone service, I have called over 60 times in the last few days....every day every 2 hours to schedule an appointment and I get no where, the system is constantly updating, or there are no more appointments, they have local Mobil places but never any availability, who the heck wants to drive all the way to this office! This is ridiculous and very sad for those who don't have time to waste or resources to schedule online, I can only hope the service we receive at this office when we do get an appointment are much more pleasant than the phone system, I'm not holding my breath though!!!

Nereyda M.

Yelp

Yelp
I had an excellent experience at the Mexican Consulate and I was out VERY quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. I had to get appointment beforehand by calling 1-877-639-4835, or you can also get it online, just Google "Mexitel". Without an appointment, they will not see you, unless you have a verifiable emergency, like a plane ticket to Mexico the next day. It is important also to bring all your documents in their original format because copies will not be accepted. There is a guy who sells pens outside for a dollar and tells you that the Consulate doesn't have pens inside. THIS ISN'T TRUE. Do not fall prey to this scam! You do not need to buy a pen from this man, but I would suggest you bring your own in order to not have to borrow someone else's. You will also have your picture taken here, so no need to bring passport photos. The Mexican Consulate also has a great offering of cultural activities, I would encourage you to check out their events. Just Google "Consulado General de México en Los Ángeles Events Eventbrite".
