Consumer Reports gets a Thumbs-Down from Consumer Reports!
Until now, I've always had respect for the company and occasionally paid their $10 a-month fee to get the latest results on cars, TVs, chain saws, etc.
Unfortunately, Consumer Reports has adopted a technique of profit-enhancement through a common ploy which is DEFINITELY AGAINST CONSUMERS - ESPECIALLY THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS!
The ploy is to ask for your credit card to pay the $10 monthly fee. AND THEN THEY KEEP ON BILLING YOU MONTH AFTER MONTH! When you finally get around to examining your credit card bill (and this slows down around the holidays), you find out you've been paying three months AFTER your first month. You call to cancel, they say, "Sure, no problem," but they will only give you one month refund.
I called my credit card company and cancelled all payments to Consumer Reports FOREVER. Six months later, the Consumer Reports charges begin AGAIN! Nobody at CR takes any responsibility for this, they give you no written proof that you cancelled, such as an email, and you end up wasting hours and hours taking the charges off.
Sorry CR - you are no longer in my mind, a CONSUMER ADVOCATE. You've become CONSUMER HOSTILE. The shame is, there's no other reliable, unbribed, impartial judge of consumer products anymore.
But wait, if you respond in the next 3 minutes, the Peoples Republic of China will send you, absolutely free a new Milwaukee power tool of your choice, none of which, however, are made in Milwaukee.
