Contemporary Craft

The exhibits are generally always worth visiting in a small inviting setting. Also terrific place to get gifts. Just took a flower arranging class through contemporary crafts. New beautiful space across the street and it was a great experience. They have so much to offer. People should really explore this wonderful Pittsburgh asset!!

A true gem in Lawrenceville. Went for the Gai/Ikebana exhibit. No admission fee. Clean, airy space. Well-planned exhibit. Also, crafts by local artists for sale and space for makers. Staff was very welcoming. Parked easily on a side street near a small playground.

Finally stopped in. Great exhibit. Interesting shopping. Only two parking spots out front make it hard to envision visiting.

Stopped in for Fiberart International 2025 - the exhibit was incredible and we'll worth the visit.

Contemporary Craft's new home in Lawrenceville is excellent. Open exhibit space, expanded shop, and first floor workshops and studios. They are open for timed ticket visits now. Just like their former home, the gallery is free. New space, but same welcoming and creative atmosphere.

I have taken two classes and enjoyed them so much! Looking forward to more opportunities to learn with an amazing organization.

I love small art places. No complaints here. Well done small gallery with high quality retail space and add in an activity - yes, please. Wish I lived closer, so I could take a class. Or visit late afternoon and walk next door to Hopfarm Brewery. Now there's a winning pair!

I always enjoyed visiting Contemporary Craft when it was in the Strip, but the new space is lovely and there is the added benefit of easy parking. The exhibit space works well for one artist. The two shows I've seen there so far have been provocative, and well worth the time. The gift shop is nicely curated with unique and artful pieces. Studios/classrooms are visible from the gallery and the street. Currently there is timed entry. Admission is free, but visitors should plan to make a donation as a courtesy.

I thought that this place would be a bit bigger. It takes all of 30 minutes to go through and look at everything including the retail store. The art was pretty cool if you are into costume design, jewelry, fabric, well, yeah. Some of the ceramic and wooden pieces were pretty cool. The items for sale are horrendously over priced. I guess it is worth going to once to just check it out.

I was standing on a corner eating my Peace, Love, Donuts donuts and thought I noticed signage for crafts. This word-"crafts"-can mean many things and with sticky, crossed fingers I darted across the busy intersection to investigate. I think the best place to enter this gallery is from 21st ST. This entrance leads you into the shop, or "the Store," which is what my review is mostly focused on. So, back to "crafts." There are really talented contemporary artists featured here and the Store is a great place to get contemporary pieces for you, your home or for gifts. I bought two Brett Freund (PA artists) ceramic pieces and they were so beautifully wrapped I felt guilty they were only for me. Prices are varied, depending on size and medium and of course the artist. Whatever your budget, this "gift shop" (another term I hate) is a must to check out. One thing to note, I was there on Sunday, which neither the gallery or Shop should have been open on, so I'm not sure what was going on that day. The gallery was indeed closed, rather, roped off for the trading of exhibits but what I could see was exciting. This is definitely on the list to check out when I return.

This was ok considering it was free. However, watch where you park!! We parked right at the front door & it wasn't until we got back to our vehicle that we realized we were in a pay parking area. But the deal is, it's $5 for the whole day. You park then go to the parking attendant & pay. So try to arrange your schedule so you can hit up several places in the strip to take advantage of this great parking deal. The shop itself is ok. There was 1 artist's work on display...she made things out of combs & human hair. Needless to say, it was different. There are other items for sale but not in our budget. There was an artist working so I was able to chat w/ him about his craft. This store is close to a Peace Love & Donuts loc.

Really marvelous art presented in a beautiful setting. The gift shop is one of the best in the city. They feature crafts from artists around the world and local. Shows are well lit and well presented. Downstairs are studios where they teach classes on metals, wood, fiber, mixed media and book/paper arts (beginning to advanced). They do a great job of hosting outside events and fundraisers.

Whenever I'm home in Pittsburgh I don't mind doing nice things for my parents. For example, it was nice of me to accompany my mom to a fundraising/social event here. As far as my dad was concerned, it was also nice for him since I went, and he didn't have to. I'm a good kid like that. The space wasn't bad for an event but the art itself seemed completely random and pretty uninteresting. Pretty sure the art changes frequently, so I would go back again, but only to hold my spot as the favorite son.

While not necessarily an art destination, this small gallery is a worthwhile diversion in the Strip District. The small space features one or two distinct installations, and in addition to the exhibitions, the adjacent store stocks a variety of handmade crafts. Worth checking out if you're in the area, not least because the admission's free.

This place is such a unique find in the Strip. I've been on Smallman dozens of times and never really noticed this gallery. We decided to check it out, and the woman at the desk was so friendly. She shared about the gallery and the different sections and introduced the resident artist. We explored the gallery for quite a while (it's free by the way!!), and the Edward Eberle collection was awesome. Definitely hoping to take a class in the studio sometime soon!! If you're in the Strip and enjoy art at all, this place is worth your time!

The Exhibits were few but there were some powerful ones and some funny ones. All really modern even in how they were presented. A cool shop - definitely a place to buy home decor items or gifts. It was worth stopping in especially since it was free. It adds a good dimension to a trip to the strip. I definitelly recommend it. There is probably at least one thing here in for every type of person.

Beautiful exhibits and retail Store. Be sure to visit the Studio on the lower level. There's more art down there and a great program of workshops for all skill levels. The visiting artist list is the most impressive one you'll see any where. There's a Drop In studio that's always free to do on your own, too.
