"Oakland Roman restaurant Contrasto is on its way out. The space, located just north of Lake Merritt, has been sold and the pasta hub will need to pack up soon, although the official closing date hasn’t been announced yet. The restaurant first opened in 2017 as owner Alessandro Campitelli’s more casual follow-up to SF’s now-closed Chiaroscuro." - Janelle Bitker

Very tasty Italian food. The T-bone steak and canolli were great. The bleu cheese(?) was very powerful, almost tasted like wine. Will try the pasta next!

Chef is constantly changing and fine tuning the menu making it a new dining experience every time. This one of the best restaurants in Oakland and its just a pop up.

Contrasto is an incredible place for a 2 hours tasting menu dinner with family or friends. Great experience, friendly and professional staff, good wine selection. The chef accommodates food restrictions and the food is amazing! If you go here for dinner I recommend the tasting menu.

I don't like to give bad reviews unless it's really bad, so to be clear, I don't want this to be a "bad" review. There's plenty to like here. The food was very delicious. The place is very cute. Date night perfect. And the server was eager to please. But... the service was confused, the menu was confusing. We were told that everything was prix fixe. No individual entrees. But items were individually priced. They seem to be suffering from some new restaurant growing pains... The prices and portions were completely absurd. This place is one of those that uses tweezers to get the plating and garnishes just right. However, it's on an unpretentious block next to a tattoo shop on Grand Ave. Bottom line, if you want to impress a date and blow a wad of cash, it's great. Enjoy. If you're looking for an upscale casual dinner, probably not so much.

This is probably the worst service I have received at a restaurant in the US. It looks like a nice cosy restaurant and I spotted it and wanted to support the local community. We were never seated properly. My husband eventually took a sit by the table closest to the door and was already feeling the bad vibes but I told him to hang on. I went to complain to the manager ask him if we could move to a better seat. He said we could move but there was nothing more he can do and he is very busy and short staffed and the restaurant is closing down next week and he would suggest we make a reservation next time - in the most insensitive and unapologetically tone. But there were 4 other free unreserved tables. Anyways we didn’t end up eating because we could not justify paying Bay Area restaurant prices at a place that doesn’t even value their customers. No thanks!

Excellent food made by the owner who would also occasionally bring the dishes himself to our table. Almost everything is made in house, even the biscotti that came with our tiramisu. The roasted Brussels sprouts (order as a side ) is to die for.

Best Cacio e Pepe I've had in a while. Authentic Roman style. Great service. You can tell the few bad reviews are from "that" kind of customer. I'll be going back here plenty.
