San Francisco Hotel Monumento | Best places to stay in Santiago de Compostela

"Occupying a striking 18th-century UNESCO-listed Franciscan convent, this hotel is only four minutes from the Cathedral, yet feels deliciously secluded thanks to its garden, terrace and cloisters. Expect plenty of stone and wood: the comfortable rooms overlooking the cloister of gardens have beamed ceilings, wooden floors and contemporary furniture. There’s a museum of artefacts from the Holy Land to peruse, and an indoor pool and Jacuzzi for relaxing. The bar-café serves excellent cocktails and the restaurant focuses on serves regional specialties with a contemporary twist. ideal for pilgrims or anyone who loves history and creature comforts. This hotel is pretty perfect. Location is excellent. Staff was accommodating. Breakfast was included and was very good. The room was lovely. Sheets and towels were very nice. The history is interesting. I only wish more of the beds were kings rather than two twins pushed together.

Fantastic location within 5 minutes walk from Santiago de Compostela & the center of town. Staying in this beautifully restored historical convent was an experience by itself. The architecture alone is strikingly impressive! Our room is extremely spacious but very basic (it gives you a feeling of how the monks or nuns lived). The beds were firmer than I would like them to be. Our room was on the top floor which provided a sweeping view of the area. There is a nice pool & hot tub in a separate bldg which we did not try. Our dinner was part of our package and it was delicious! The breakfast area/banquet halls were stunning (makes a great venue for weddings)! Breakfast spread was excellent!

On the Camino a very atmospheric place to stay at the end of the trip. I'd rate 4 stars. The reason not 5 is the bed was the worst in my entire trip on the Camino. Hard and I could feel the box spring digging into me all night. V. truely not comfy. Hotel needs to invest in a good foam topper or a real no box spring foam only mattress. When the Auberges can do it, so can you expensive hotel! The bar is amazing, the staff friendly. The concierge lady was very kind and right on point. Service was excellent. I didnt' get to try the pool I understand its quite nice. Very very quiet hotel no noise from the other guests on the floor ... amazing elevators too...

Great stay at the end of a Camino. Located near the Cathedral. Service and food was great and a real treat after a long walk. The pool and jacuzzi were an added bonus. The complete menu is at a great price and of high quality.

We enjoyed our stay. |The breakfast in the beautiful chapel was plentiful and delicious. There is a young waitress there that is super nice and attentive. |Our room (superior deluxe) was clean, with very tall ceilings and good closets. Housekeeping is very good.|The free parking is wonderful!! |The best part was walking out and literally being 5 minutes from the cathedral and restaurants.

Former monastery conveniently located in old town Santiago. Helpful staff, nice European breakfast and minimalist rooms. Advertised as a 4 star hotel. We believe it’s closer to a 3 star as rooms are in need of renovations (broken tile in shower, cracked grout around tub/shower, stained tile floors, chipped mirrors). Simple rooms, firm mattresses. Room amenities could be upgraded to include coffee Nespresso machine or kettle; additional pillows and more king bed options (mostly twin beds).

THE STAFF TREATED ME DISGRACEFULLY AFTER I GOT BITTEN BY BEDBUGS. Bedbugs can appear in any hotel that’s not the issue if it’s handled properly and professionally. But the way this hotel treated me was completely unacceptable. Please see my story and photos for details. After insisting and sending several emails, it took them an entire week to respond and the way the director himself started his email says everything about their attitude. Even if this hotel were free, I would never stay here again. The experience completely ruined the feeling of what should have been a wonderful vacation truly a shame.

- The property is beautiful as well as the staff, but the rooms need some improvements. |- The AC of our room was not able to cool down during the day. |- Cafe con Leche during breakfast was really of poor quality for the price charged as well as fried eggs, which are not fried to order, they seat there for a long time. |- Room cardboard cups in the bathroom and for coffee in a 4 stars hotel? I think they do not match!
