San Francisco Hotel Monumento | Best places to stay in Santiago de Compostela

"Occupying a striking 18th-century UNESCO-listed Franciscan convent, this hotel is only four minutes from the Cathedral, yet feels deliciously secluded thanks to its garden, terrace and cloisters. Expect plenty of stone and wood: the comfortable rooms overlooking the cloister of gardens have beamed ceilings, wooden floors and contemporary furniture. There’s a museum of artefacts from the Holy Land to peruse, and an indoor pool and Jacuzzi for relaxing. The bar-café serves excellent cocktails and the restaurant focuses on serves regional specialties with a contemporary twist. ideal for pilgrims or anyone who loves history and creature comforts. This hotel is pretty perfect. Location is excellent. Staff was accommodating. Breakfast was included and was very good. The room was lovely. Sheets and towels were very nice. The history is interesting. I only wish more of the beds were kings rather than two twins pushed together.

Fantastic location within 5 minutes walk from Santiago de Compostela & the center of town. Staying in this beautifully restored historical convent was an experience by itself. The architecture alone is strikingly impressive! Our room is extremely spacious but very basic (it gives you a feeling of how the monks or nuns lived). The beds were firmer than I would like them to be. Our room was on the top floor which provided a sweeping view of the area. There is a nice pool & hot tub in a separate bldg which we did not try. Our dinner was part of our package and it was delicious! The breakfast area/banquet halls were stunning (makes a great venue for weddings)! Breakfast spread was excellent!

On the Camino a very atmospheric place to stay at the end of the trip. I'd rate 4 stars. The reason not 5 is the bed was the worst in my entire trip on the Camino. Hard and I could feel the box spring digging into me all night. V. truely not comfy. Hotel needs to invest in a good foam topper or a real no box spring foam only mattress. When the Auberges can do it, so can you expensive hotel! The bar is amazing, the staff friendly. The concierge lady was very kind and right on point. Service was excellent. I didnt' get to try the pool I understand its quite nice. Very very quiet hotel no noise from the other guests on the floor ... amazing elevators too...

We stayed for 3 nights after completing El Camino. I dont normally write negative reviews, however, I am afraid this is one of them. This is by no means 4 star when we paid over 280 euro per night for a standard double room. The positives are the fabulous location and the historical building within which this hotel is situated. The drawbacks are the service and the lack of facilities in the bedroom. There are no bathrobes, coffee machine or fridge in the standard room. They will provide a kettle, ironing board and iron on request although we felt these were provided with reluctance. Additionally, our room was not cleaned until after 4pm in the afternoon on successive days. This was most inconvenient as we wanted to rest having been out since breakfast. They were only serviced on day 2 and 3 of our stay after we informed the reception staff. Even then staff were not apologetic and became very defensive. When I requested to speak to the duty manager I was told at Reception that there wasn't one availablle that day. On the whole, we did not find the staff throughout the hotel friendly or helpful. I submitted a formal complaint over a week ago, I still have not had a reply. This is very disappointing. I certainly will not be staying at this hotel even if it is at a much cheaper rate.

Great location and very comfortable rooms. We did not opt in for the breakfast as there were many choices close by. Very modern rooms in a historical setting. Easy to check in even though we were early. Highly recommend treating yourself after finishing the Camino de Santiago.

Great stay at the end of a Camino. Located near the Cathedral. Service and food was great and a real treat after a long walk. The pool and jacuzzi were an added bonus. The complete menu is at a great price and of high quality.

THE STAFF TREATED ME DISGRACEFULLY AFTER I GOT BITTEN BY BEDBUGS.||||Bedbugs can appear in any hotel that’s not the issue if it’s handled properly and professionally. But the way this hotel treated me was completely unacceptable. Please see my story and photos for details. After insisting and sending several emails, it took them an entire week to respond and the way the director himself started his email says everything about their attitude.||||Even if this hotel were free, I would never stay here again. The experience completely ruined the feeling of what should have been a wonderful vacation truly a shame.

Former monastery conveniently located in old town Santiago. Helpful staff, nice European breakfast and minimalist rooms. Advertised as a 4 star hotel. We believe it’s closer to a 3 star as rooms are in need of renovations (broken tile in shower, cracked grout around tub/shower, stained tile floors, chipped mirrors). Simple rooms, firm mattresses. Room amenities could be upgraded to include coffee Nespresso machine or kettle; additional pillows and more king bed options (mostly twin beds).
