"The combination of design-hotel good looks and family-inn friendliness is a tough pairing to deliver, but that’s a nutshell description of Portugal’s Conversas de Alpendre. Set in the countryside of the Eastern Algarve, a mile or so inland from the Atlantic and a three-hour drive from Lisbon, it’s not just family-owned but family-run and family-made — and its effortless marriage of contemporary boutique-hotel style with locally crafted artisanal elements gives it a visual identity that’s totally unique." - Tablet Hotels

Conversas de Alpendre, Near Tavira, Portugal - Explore & Book

"One of my favourite hotels of all time, Conversas de Alpendre is a celebration of all things Portuguese. The peaceful gardens are full of gnarled cork and carob trees; the stunning furnishings are by local or Lisbon artisans — quirky rattan lampshades, rustic stools, woven art and traditional tiles; decor is fabulous throughout. Its restaurant dishes up regional recipes, including estupeta (tuna carpaccio), and octopus fresh from the ocean, and if you ask owner Marta what to do, she brims with local tips: beautiful beaches, quaint villages, meadows to explore on horseback. It's also a celebration of family; Marta's late husband Tiago helped to create this sanctuary, which Marta now runs alongside her parents and small son Francisco, who plays in the grounds, charming everyone. But it's a family that you feel part of when you stay. While there's (thankfully) no enforced conviviality, guests naturally mingle and chat, a mix of couples and small families that somehow blends beautifully. Kids play together and adult friendships are formed over carafes of Algarve wine. A recent guest spent a fortnight here, then booked for 3 weeks next summer as he left. It didn't surprise us. Everything about this place is special. Highs Extremely stylish rooms; we were blown away by the romantic Tree House, with its panoramic views out to sea Utterly peaceful and relaxing. Even when the hotel's full, you can always find a quiet hammock or outdoor sofa to read on Excellent prices yet a feeling of high quality runs throughout Marta could not be more welcoming or kind. She treats you like family, even baking cakes to help yourself to Just 2km from idyllic Fábrica beach; borrow bikes and cycle there Lows You'll need to book early - this is a popular property, with lots of repeat guests (the sign of a great hotel) Dinner is a set menu (though you can tailor it for dietary requirements). It may look expensive but the food is delicious" - Liz Simpson

It was a very mixed bag for us. Some outstanding moments and some not so good. The breakfast and food in general was outstanding. The chef was also very accommodating to any request made. We loved it. The outdoor area is beautiful with tons of|Character and lots of space . However with summers come kids and the pool was mostly inaccessible due to high occupation rate with youngsters. The website pictures can be a bit misleading. The jacuzzi room is tiny ( it does say 17sq meter, so my bad for missing this bit of info) and hardly has enough room to store luggage or clothes. Barely enough clearance from shower door or toilet door. . The picture shown definitely not reflecting that. It does not have the openness feel you anticipated. It also now has a structure outside the room and patio that create a sense of closeness. And forget the jacuzzi. It was blurry and not real jets. The shutters don’t close. So yes not the romantic room you may have in mind. We met some wonderful staff that would go to any length of effort to make you happy and some not so much, almost snappy. Bottom line, it was not an experience commensurate with the price paid, and would say proceed with caution.

What an amazing place. A true island of peace and quiet. Fantastic staff, so friendly and happy. This place was 100% what we needed to get some rest. Fun activities like wine tasting, incredible breakfast. An absolute must do if you want to visit this region. We stayed in The Cabin. Just WOW

Very expensive stay for an apartment that lacked several key utensils (including a bottle opener - we borrowed one from the bar but were rather abruptly told to bring it straight back after use) and was worn (stained linen on chairs) in places. Pool is missing several tiles which resulted in injury to one adult's foot. Breakfast was nice but same every day. We stayed in far less expensive places during our tour of Algarve which were much nicer.

We had a 3 night stay at this property and it was lovely. The hotel is a little oasis on its own with a great pool, pool bar and a wonderful restaurant. Our room was super accommodating for a family of 4 and it was great because were able to eat dinner while our kids were sleeping. The drinks were delicious and the price point was fabulous. Close drive to the best beaches and restaurants. A true treat and we would definitely come back!

We spent three nights at Conversas de Alpendre and it was nothing short of spectacular! We were two couples and all four of us just loved everything about it. We did not want to leave.||It was our first stop on a 3 week trip and it could not have been a more perfect beginning.||We had different classes of rooms, but both were very comfortable and beautifully decorated. One had a hot top on the deck and the other was very spacious.||The entire Conversas team was so welcoming and friendly. A special shout out to Bea who took such good care of us at the cocktail bar.||We had reservations at the hotel for dinner the first night and at two other restaurants the other nights. We cancelled the other reservations and ate at the hotel all three nights. Amazing!||The other highlight was breakfast. What a great offering of fresh and healthy food.||All in all, just a perfect stay. We will be back.

Oh what a magical place! I feel like we found such a special place here in Algarve. The location is amazing, charming and peaceful. Beautiful surroundings perfect for relaxing. We had our 7 month old with us and our room was right by the pool. It was perfect because we would put him down for a nap inside and sit on the loungers outside our room with the window open so we could hear him. The staff were all incredible. So caring and made our stay feel extra special. Viviane and Emily were especially wonderful. The food was exceptional. We loved every meal we had there and were truly impressed by the creativity of the chefs. They had a travel crib and bathtub ready for us which was very helpful. They will even pack you a picnic lunch if requested. What a treat to stay there. Highly recommend! Especially if you have kids! But plenty of couples without kids there as well.
