Cook and Shaker

Cook and Shaker is a cozy corner bar that just reopened after renovations! The bar was huge with nice ambient lighting. There were also lots of high tops around the restaurant, plenty of seating in an open space. One of the bartenders, Tori, gave us samples of their espresso martini which was SO delicious. One of the best I’ve had in Philly. Highly recommend. For food, we got the cook and shaker salad, popcorn chicken and their special of the night which was a pizza steak sandwich with vodka sauce. The salad was fresh and delicious, the croutons seemed homemade (the best). The popcorn chicken was heavily breaded which I personally like, but my friend wasn’t a fan. If you like crispy small pieces of chicken, you’ll enjoy these. We were unfortunately not a fan of the pizza steak sandwich. We got it because of the vodka sauce, but we couldn’t taste that at all. We swapped it for a grilled cheese, which was just okay. Overall, we loved the atmosphere, espresso martini and some of the food. I will definitely come back in the future to try more things!

Cook & Shaker is back after renovations! This was my favorite local spot after recently moving here and I'm so happy to see it back open and better than ever! They still have the same amazing food, craft beer, and cocktails and the new space is huge and beautiful. There is 3 times the amount of dining space and the bar is twice the size now with 30 seats. There is also a huge new window letting in tons of natural light and sunset views, that's opened during good weather. Now with many huge tvs it is the perfect place to watch any sports game! You'll come for the game and stay for the food and drinks:) I got the weekly Sunday 16$ dinner special that comes with 1 draft beer and 1 sandwhich. I got the cod filet sandwich and the dragonfruit mango sour draft beer. Both were phenomenal! The hours and menu is currently updated only on Instagram, as well as daily dinner specials posted @Cookandshaker. This is the new place to be in Fishtown so don't miss out! Reservations required for parties of 5 or more!!

I decided to check out this place based on the glowing reviews, but others are severely overselling it unless this is just the standard in Philly. As a transplant, I can’t understand the hype. Staff was really nice and helpful. They great everyone who walks in, which does not seem to be the going rate in Philly. I ordered the meatloaf special because it was recommended and I assumed I’d be coming back and could check out the menu then. It looked fantastic, so I was excited to try it. But it had a one-dimensional onion flavor to it, but at least it wasn’t dry. The potatoes that came with it were unseasoned and under salted. As for drinks, the Smoke Show was phenomenal - interesting, well balanced flavors of mezcal, green chartreuse, and jalapeño with a maraschino cherry garnish. It was so good that I was convinced to try another drink. I was stuck between two choices, then the bartender said the Olde Richmond Punch was his favorite. I can’t imagine why. It simply tastes of whiskey and lemon - none of the honey nor rosemary came through. And I can see why if the rosemary incorporation was simply a few floating rosemary leaves. It didn’t taste bad, but it was nowhere near the caliber of drink as the Smoke Show. Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

First time in on a Friday night for the tail end of happy hour. Sat at the bar which was relatively crowded. Ordered 4 half priced apps (yay!) and 2 $5 cocktails on special. I would’ve stayed all night! My new neighborhood hidden gem.

My wife and I were very pleased with our dining experience. She started with a hot coffee cocktail which she thoroughly enjoyed, while I ordered the Perfect Pear cocktail, which was like a drunken dessert in a glass. Delicious! It wouldn't be right if we didn't get appetizers. My wife has the dry run wings that come with this Chipotle ranch. I don't like ranch, but this sauce was superb. The smokiness of the sauce was a nice touch. I had the vegetable spring rolls. I'm not a fan of cilantro, but I enjoyed them, all things considered. They are accompanied by a scrumptious sweet chili sauce. Makes you forget about the cilantro...unless you're into that kind of thing. Then, the piece de resistance! The filet poutine. We both couldn't resist ordering it and we couldn't have been happier. Tender, juicy pieces of filet, creamy cheese curds, tasty gravy and fries (they're French fries....c'mon). If you order this, kid the chef for us (after covid, of course). Great service brought it all together. Not to mention, good music. It was a vibe. Found this place while walking around fishtown and it did not disappoint. We got the cheesteak and dry rub wings. The wings were fried hard and seasoned great! The tots came with a garlic aioli sauce that was AMAZING. Compared to some other places you get a lot of wings my order came with 9-10 wings. there's a happy hour Monday -Friday 4-6 small bites and drinks for $5. We were seated and greeted right away. The drinks were very good. It's a little small in there but there's to sit outside. Very causal and relaxed inside many regulars there.

What a local gem! Located in a neighborhood in Philly, we were thrilled to stumble upon Cook and Shaker. The drinks were great , I recommend the Espresso Martini'!!! The fried chicken sandwich was juicy and delicious and the bison chili was one of the best bowls of chili we've ever had. Lovely little gem of a place that you must try!

Cook and Shaker seems to be a neighborhood classic. The vegetarian rolls are some of the best I have ever had. The wrapper is crispy and the veggies inside are not fully cooked which is so refreshing. I thought the battered pickles were chips and not spears. These were ok - but the pickles separated from the breading, I would not order again. The breading is beer battered similar to the fish and chips. The fish and chips is the type you find in New England which is awesome. I also got the vegetarian meatball subs which lacked a bit of salt but nonetheless, a great play on traditional meatballs. Service was attentive, no issues at all.

One of my favorite places on this side of the neighborhood. You can never really go wrong here. Good beer list. Good food.

I love this little spot. It offers great espresso martinis, a varied menu of both food and drink and pleasant bartenders. They always have specials, and the food is much higher-end than you'd expect from a local bar. They also don't give you a hard time when you want to substitute cheeses or dressings, as some spots do. Not to mention it's very clean and well-kept with TVs for your entertainment. It's a bit off the beaten path, but to me, that's what makes it special.

I've been here a few times now and it does not disappoint. The menu is eclectic so every time I go I try a new cuisine. I highly recommend the bison chilly. Excellent beer selection on draft too! 10/10!

My favorite brunch spot. My Sunday is not complete without a Bloody Mary. Conversations are always easy and welcomed. In fact, the place is very friendly.

The food and drinks are just so good. Super happy hour specials and the bartenders and service is on point. Their loaded tots -- that cheese sauce is delicious.

Best happy hour in the neighborhood. Consistently good food, service and ambiance. Smaller and a little off the beaten path which is why this makes it a great locals spot for lunch, dinner or drinks.

Love this local joint for great bites and beverages. They always have an interesting drink menu that skews towards a great beer selection-they do make creative cocktails but they're not in the craft cocktail hall of fame or anything. Lots of tvs to watch whatever on. There is outdoor and indoor seating. Indoors is very comfortable and welcoming. Their food is great!! Really can't beat this place. Strikes all chords.

I am so happy I came across this establishment! I am not sure if they have specials every day, but I've noticed that Sunday's they have an amazing special ( $13 for special sandwich of the day + draft beer). The staff is amazing - social, honest, attentive. This is going to be a go-to place!

What a great neighborhood spot. I've been here twice for a late lunch/early dinner and was pleased with the food both times. The outside seating is nice because the sidewalk is wide so it doesn't feel like people are walking right next to you while you're eating and there isn't a ton of foot traffic, which is nice. I had the Veggie Italian and the Cook and Shaker Salad. Both were quite tasty. My husband ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and the Chickpeas. I didn't taste the chicken sandwich but I did dig into his chickpeas salad. That was very good. While some people may say they're just salad, but to find salads with such fresh ingredients at a small neighborhood restaurant is pretty impressive. My cocktail of chose was the Sage Against The Machine. It wasn't the flavor I expected, but it was good. My only critique would be the slowness of service. I mean incredibly slow. But the wait staff was so nice so makes you overlook that hiccup.

Filet tips sandwich was excellent. Great spot, parking right out front, bartender was helpful. A+ would return. Also, went on a Sunday and got a sandwich and draft for $13. Stellar deal.

They have really great cocktails ,espresso machine for martini, food is really good. Nice atmosphere.

The food is Outstanding. Their blue cheese dressing is the Best I've ever had. The service is exemplary. The restaurant itself is exceptionally clean .. & .. well kept. As far as ambiance goes, it fits in perfectly with the neighborhood. Just a nice family style tavern where you can bring your children for a wonderful food experience. I can't say enough good things about COOK & SHAKER. A diamond in the rough in the highly competitive food/restaurant/bar area of Fishtown, Port Richmond & Northern Liberties. You won't be disappointed .. but .. definitely try the blue cheese dressing ON ANYTHING !!

Everything here is DELICIOUS!!! I just recently got hooked on their Cook and Shaker Salad, the dressing is some kind of herb vinegarette, amazing. The Buffalo sprouts thooooo! Perfectly soft on the inside, outside has a breaded coating that is just the right amount tossed in a Buffalo sauce and served with a side of blue cheese...TO DIE FOR! They also have A Sunday special...a sandwich and a beer on tap for $13...soooo worth it! Very cool, chill vibe...cool bartenders and servers. Love this spot! **try out the cheesesteak on GARLIC BREAD and their Asian spring rolls**

The drinks were wonderful and highly creative. We enjoyed the vegetable pizza and appetizer.

Used to be one of my favorite neighborhood spots. Was my go to for a quick bite and/or drink. Buttt over the last couple of years the quality has decreased, what once was one of the best chicken sandwiches around is not overly salty. The service used to be fantastic but now some of the wait staff are rude and act like you are bothering them at work. Recently ordered a pasta special that cost $30! Left feeling hungry and scammed, mind you their most expensive dish is $16. May give them a chance in the future if they change things up

I'm sad I waited so long to try this place! Staff was friendly and food was delicious. We had the special (biscuit batter coated Buffalo chicken) and a burger, also loved both the fries and the tots. The inside is very casual and chill. We went for an early dinner on a Saturday and it was starting to get busy around the time we left. This will definitely be a go to spot!

Different cheesesteak #984 in the last four years. This was a great day for the cheesesteak guy. Special guest eater Tayler B and her Justin. Cook & shaker; spoiler alert, I liked it alot. The food in their posts tastes just as good, if not better than it looks. Sliced Ribeye Cheesesteak, Caramelized Onions, Banana Peppers, Garlic Buttered roll. On the google maps menu the Cook and Shaker tots come with a 'house made' cheese sauce. I'm guessing they use the house made cheese sauce on the cheesesteak. The cheesesteak comes with tots. They were tasty. The cheesesteak is awesome from the first bite all the way until the end. Balance and flavor in every bite. Cook and Shaker is a cool little corner bar. I found a fruity sour draft I liked. The cheesesteak is $14. It does come with tots. It is a very good bar/restaurant cheesesteak. I wish it was bigger. Mostly because it was very good and I wanted more. Cook and Shaker is one of the few places I will go back to for their other food.

I ordered the wings and they were delicious they have a nice crisp to them. I also ordered the buffalo brussels sprouts which are good. I just didn't want any breading on mine. I didn't know they had breading but in any event.. They are still good. I also ordered the broccoli which I did not like at all . It had a acetone smell to it I'm not sure if it was horseradish or what was causing that but I'm not a fan. With the exception of the broccoli and the Smokey sauce that came with the wings, everything was good but a little pricey.

I follow Cook and Shaker on Instagram. I enjoy the amazing and tempting food they post. I decided to pop in and give it a try. Located on the corner of a residential street. Very simple menu. Not too much, but just enough items and varieties of dishes. There's always a daily special (you may have to ask). Food: I ordered the Cook and Shaker Tots. Comes with home made cheese sauce, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, and tomatillo salsa. Very tasty and sinful! I also ordered the Blackened Tuna sandwich which comes with cucumber ranch slaw (served medium rare). Very yummy and cooked to perfection. Cook and Shaker also has a great selection of cocktails, drafts, bottled and can beers. I ordered the Olde Richmond Punch: Old overholt rye, lemon, honey syrup, rosemary. To summarize, I had an enjoyable experience. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is very comfortable and inviting. I am looking forward to my next visit. This place is amazing! Cook and Shaker is located in a residential type neighborhood on an unsuspecting corner and all you really see is a small local bar when you walk in. When you get to the food, it's like BAM! What a surprise! They have all types of different specials on the menu each night and use locally sourced ingredients and they create such delicious specials! We also LOVE tater tots and this place does them right! If you come during happy hour - they're half off (along withe the other appetizers)! They also do drink specials. My husband actually got the ravioli with chicken, which is on their regular menu and really enjoyed it! I was lucky enough to snag the ravioli on special with shrimp and cherry tomatoes! It was so good and the raviolis in both were so filling! The homemade aioli with the tater tots are equally delicious! It was so good that we can back the next day for lunch and so happened to catch the happy hour on Saturday. I got their loaded tots, which was like a nachos situation, but had everything on the side so my husband's picky palate could also enjoy - i liked the plain ones better, but for half off, they were worth a try! I also got the special for that day - a Kobe beef burger with mushrooms and gravy with curly fries. So yum! The first one I got actually was a bit too burnt on the outside and undercooked on the inside so I felt terrible to ask, but they made me a whole new order. It was so nice and completely unnecessary. My husband went with his ravioli again and thoroughly enjoyed it the second time around too. We would come back here in a heartbeat the next time we are in the neighborhood!

The service and food was stellar ! I was there for brunch on Sunday and had an amazing Bloody Mary and Waffles. Very clean, personable bartenders and the owner greeted us as well. I look forward to going back this this awesome establishment to try more menu items

I was lured to Cook and Shaker by photos of their special on Facebook, so imagine my disappointment when I was informed they were out of it :-/ Oh well, no big deal, everything on the menu sounded great so it was no trouble finding something else. Boyfriend and I started with wings, which gave me some mixed feelings. They are crispy and delicious and cooked absolutely perfectly. However the dry rub is a little boring. The seasoning they currently have on the wings is doing a disservice to these delicious little morsels. Put some sauce or something good on them immediately please. In the absence of the lobster special I ordered the filet tip sandwich. I did quite enjoy it, and also enjoyed the tots that came with the sandwich. Boyfriend's burger was enjoyable as well. With so many cute bars with good food around I'm not sure I'll make a point to come back here but it was good and I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.

Their cocktails are on point!! I had their dry rub wings..wasn't very impressed BUT after I dipped them in their sauce they were awesome! The place is small but cozy. Loved it.

Always a good place to go! I've been here before during brunch and the food was on point. We went back on a Sunday hoping to try something new on the brunch menu but when we got there, there was no brunch menu- they opened at 12 and went straight to lunch But we decided to stay and try their lunch & have a few cocktails. I ordered the Halle Berry- a gin drink and my boo ordered another delicious drink- I think it was Something with guava & papaya ? But the name was a take on some Biggie lyrics- trust, you'll know it when you see it lol. I had the veggie Italian sandwich- delicious. The "meatballs" are eggplant and they are sooo good. It came with broccoli rabe but I took it off and had it as a side veggie- not in my sammich. My boyfriend ordered the ahi tuna sandwich and he really liked it. Great service & great food. A must.

I've been dying to try this place since seeing them on Instagram and was finally in the neighborhood. It's a cool spot if you live around there. The food and service were all good, nothing over the top. I was expecting a little more from the food but it was by no means bad! Maybe I got the wrong things or had too high of expectations. I'd give it another shot probably if I'm ever in the area but I wouldn't go completely out of my way to try it again.

If I could give more than 5 stars to Cook and Shaker, I happily would do it. What a great local bar/restaurant!! My husband and I took our teens for our Saturday night out. 1 is a very picky eater so we expecting an unhappy child despite the many kid friendly options. We arrived without reservations and saw the small dining area. Instead of sending us away, our amazing waitress allowed us to stay at the open table and could not have been nicer. For drinks, 2 shirley temples (no cherries but teens still said they tasted great), a Miller lite and Downeast blackberry cider. The Downeast is now my fave cider!! To eat, three of us chose the chicken sandwich with tots and the other chose the fish and chips with fries. We voted the chicken sandwiches the best we've had in the area, and we have tried them at many restaurants. The tots were seasoned perfectly and there were plenty of them! The fish and chips were three generous pieces of freshly breaded cod plus a ton of fries. I wish I'd taken pix but we were all so excited to eat. On our next visit, we will definitely try so of the great app options -- they looked and smelled so good as they passed by our table. They also offer dessert but we were too full to order by that point. As for the picky teen, she has already asked when we can go back. If that's not a 5 star review, then I don't know what would be.

I have been drooling over this places instagram photos!! And finally made it. Here's the scoop: Loved the little space. Laid back and comfy. But it is little, anything over 4 people will be a tight squeeze and I would totally call ahead. Everything was very reasonably priced. Drinks were tasty and they had a mid sized draft list. Appetizers: Buffalo Brussel Sprouts. I am not fond of them unless they are WAY cooked. So I did not love them. The sauce was good. Super Sized Tots filled with Cheese and Chive: If you love a tot, these were good. Totally filling. Dinner: Filet tip sandwich was HEAVEN!!!! Can't rave about the size and flavor enough. Pirogies and kielbasa was delish. Plenty of food and plenty to take home. Definitely a place you must try at least once!

So it's Sunday and we head to brunch to a place my wife's been itching to try. That itch would be Cook & shaker. As we find the place in a neighborhood we realize its more like a corner bar with some tables. For us that's usually a bad sign.We enter and sat right by the front door since they don't allow a party of two to sit at a regular table? Plus they were not even busy. I felt out of place, most of the guy customers in here all resembled the Brawny paper towel guy. Beard, check. Winter hat, check. Lumber yard, no where to be seen. Not sure when this became a thing but it's so overdone down here. The wife wanted the chicken & waffles and I got the breakfast Burger. My Burger came out cooked how I ordered it. It had good flavor but the Cheese was not abundant or pronounced. Bacon was crisp and egg over medium perfectly. Bun was soft and the hash brown patty cradled the bottom bun. The home fries were nothing special and not crisp like I asked. The burger seemed like it was flame grilled which gave it a good flavor and smokiness. I did like it but for the price it was on the small size. My wife's waffle was not bad but her chicken tenders were overcooked and seemed just like frozen chicken strips, not fresh at all. Actually over done. Best way to describe them is a cross between school cafeteria and theme park quality. She was saddened. I tried them both and would concur. This is a one and done. So done.

I follow them on Instagram and have been drooling over their food pictures for a while now and was sad that I didn't love it as much as I was expecting to. I got the pierogis and kielbasa and my fiancé got the meatloaf sandwich with tots. Everything was a kind of bland. We also got the fried pickles which were good though! Maybe my expectations were too high, but it just wasn't as good as we had hoped it would be.

Ah, Cook and Shaker...My husband and I were stalking this restaurant for MONTHS on Instagram, drooling over their photos. I brought my husband here for his birthday in September and we were SO amped to finally try it! I actually feel guilty leaving three stars, but here's the deal... Their tater tots alone are 5/5 stars. Simply amazing. Small, light, salty, airy and crispy; they taste like McDonalds breakfast hash browns, but better! I would come here just for those, they are addicting. The customer service was great. I wasn't greeted at first (and it wasn't crowded at all for a Tuesday night) but our waitress was extremely nice and food came out quick. The rest of the food we ordered.. eh. By the looks of their Instagram photos the food looked as if it would be out of this world, but that wasn't the case. The buffalo brussels sprouts were SOAKED in sauce and not enjoyable. Too soggy and spicy to actually taste the vegetable underneath. Normally we devour any buffalo related dish but we left some on the plate and did not finish. My cheeseburger was just OK; cooked a little too well (ordered medium), and it was a bit dry. Nothing special to be honest. My husband ordered a fried chicken sandwich, which was also just OK. It was plain and lacked flavor - you needed a dressing on the side to spice it up. I'm skeptical about giving Cook and Shaker a second shot, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try it! I'm not hating on this restaurant, as they appear to be a staple in the area and they do have good customer service... it just personally wasn't for my husband and I. We had really high hopes.

Stumbled upon Cook & Shaker while my friends and i were looking for some brews and a quick snack near our AirBNB. WE WERE NOT LET DOWN. it's small, a handfull of tables at most, but a nice bar area. For a small, corner bar---this is a true hidden gem. $6 for a vodka cranny on a saturday (for someone from jersey/nyc this is damn cheap ) and about $11 for a grilled cheese + tots, i was in heaven. Big, fluffy grainy bread with some perfectly melted grilled cheese. It came with meat, but hey i took it off. they do a daily grilled cheese, so make sure to ask what the special is. the tots were deep fried perfectly. something so simple, but hit the spot. lets talk sauce. the garlic aioli it came with was a toss between pesto and a garlic dip, either way..i was drowning my tots in this shit. lastly, fried pickles. im used to the fried pickle chips, but not here. they give you a fill slice of pickle battered and fried. perfectly fried, light, and juicy. dip was on point too. overall, i was just pleased with this place, the menu is small but to the point and seems to change often.

Great beer, tots, and fires. Overcooked fish n chips. Beef filet with gruyere was good overall but a bit over flavored. Lovely zeppolis. BTW: They should consider burning some sage. It might help with the hateful spirits the whole town seems to exude.

This small local bar is a pretty good place to stop for a drink or some food. It doesn't fit a whole lot of people, but I haven't seen it super crowded before. The drinks are pretty standard, they have had some interesting things on tap before. As far as food goes, the loaded tots were good, better than what you would normally get for tots. There weren't any soggy parts, a crispy flavorful exterior and soft interior. I'm always going to get excited about tots, unless you are making a really good fry, tots tend to be better. These were better than most. The chickpea salad was where I was most surprised. Lot's of stuff and fixins in the salad, tasty dressing. Too often salads are an afterthought, this one was not. However, the fish and chips weren't great. The breading separated from the fish, the fish was sort of gelatinous. I'd stay away from that, but otherwise the food we had was pretty good.

Ordered to go- looked like a cool dive bar when we picked up and good amount of people Ravioli w/ no chicken- really good loved the asparagus and sun dried tomatoes it came with. Tots were tots Brussel sprouts not out of this world but would get again. Will update when I dine in

Grilled chicken & pasta with sundried tomatoes & asparagus & spinach & fairy dust & all kinds of goodness...Also, a Must Follow on IG for their specialty meals. The Cuban sandwich on IG enticed us to come in today (Hubby scarfed it down so didn't get a chance to snap a photo - It's on their IG though). Super laid back place with awesome service staff, kickass chef, and really good food & drinks.

Well this place was a nice surprise! I was looking for something near yay clay for a post pottery bday dinner for a friend. I searched yelp in the radius and this place intrigued me. Coming up to it you're super confused due to the neighborhood and location but worth the trip! My friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich and was in love. The birthday girl and I ordered a few different things to share. The peroigies were topped with caramelized onions and were just amazing. The filling was light and well seasoned and the onions were perfectly cooked. We also ordered the poutine and were happy campers with that too. I highly recommend stopping by for a casual meal you will not be disappointed! I'm looking forward to going back.

I have been here several times for different occasions from happy hour to brunch to watching an eagles game and every time the experience is the same. My personal favorite: Sunday night sandwich and a pint special is amazing! The rotating food/drink specials are usually pretty solid. Last sandwich I had was the filet tips and it filled the void I was missing in my life at that time. Aka my growing stomach. Delicious. And the fries come out very thin cut, allowing you to squeeze as many as possible at once into your mouth.

First of all I can't for the life of me remember the name of this place (Cook and Saddle? Cork and Shaker? Cook and Kitchen?) Unfortunately the food was just as unmemorable. We were excited to check out this new spot... Which had the potential to be a new awesome gastropub, but the food was just meh. Here are some things Cook and Whatever needs to change before I'll be back. - Focus on being a bar first and foremost. Your drinks are good. Fix the seating to be more bar like. - Fix the weird lighting. Way too bright in there. - Don't run out of the best looking things on your menu at 7:30.( Buffalo sprouts and nacho tots). -Don't tell me your fried chicken sandwich is the best thing on your menu if it's not. -Put something in your chickpea salad that I don't have in my fridge. The onion rings, veggie sandwich, gnocchi, and sausage were all good but nothing wowed us. The drinks were good and very strong. The funniest part of the night was ending up at Memphis Taproom and hearing everyone complain about the same things we experienced. I might be back for drinks sometime if I'm in the area but I wouldn't make food the focus of my trip.

I am fortunate enough to have a corner bar that has some of the best food in the city. This place has gotten better and better since it first opened. Not to say that it was ever back but the menu has expanded and the bar has come into it's own. I really think this bar is under appreciated. Especially the brunch. The specials are always fantastic. I hate when they end my favorite specials without repeat. They give you large portions as well. Even the salads will not leave you hungry like some places. The menu is small which I like but it does not offer much in the way of vegan food. Not being a drinker I cannot speak to the drink selection. all I know if that anyone I've ever taken there has not had any complaints. Service is always great and there is rarely ever a wait. Hopefully my review wont change that. I hope next year they buy the basketball court behind them and make an outside eating area.
