Cookout has really good food for really low prices. Cookouts hours are really awesome and unique; they are rarely ever closed you can not find a resuturant with others like cookout they really are the best! No matter the time of day or night the workers there are always in a good mood and do their job to the best they can.The service at Cookout is always good. I have never had a bad experience there. Going there with your freinds will help you meet new friends because their are always students there. It's a very clean establishment everything from the outside to the inside bathrooms it is very put together and organized. The food is also amazing and their shakes are to die for. The parking is not the greatest as it is very limited but even when you go to cookout you are usually not driving.

Cook Out in Lexington is seriously one of the best places to grab food late at night. It’s cheap, fast, and always hits the spot after hanging out with friends or coming back from a game. The trays are the best deal because you get a main item, two sides, and a drink for a super low price. My go-to order is a cheeseburger tray with fries and a chicken quesadilla, plus a milkshake on the side. The milkshakes are thick and creamy, and there are so many flavors that it’s hard to choose just one. The line, especially at night, can be pretty long, but the food makes it totally worth the wait. It’s not fancy at all, but that’s part of what makes Cook Out so fun. It’s definitely a classic college hangout spot in Lexington and always gives off good, casual vibes. Cook Out in Lexington is honestly a lifesaver when you’re hungry late at night and don’t want to spend a ton of money. It’s super affordable, and the portions are huge. The menu has a crazy amount of options, so there’s always something for everyone. I usually get a tray with chicken tenders, hush puppies, and fries, and it’s always hot and fresh. The milkshakes are definitely the star of the show though, super thick and packed with flavor. I’ve tried Oreo and banana pudding, and both were amazing. The place can get really busy, especially on weekends, but it’s part of the fun since there are always other college students there. It’s not a sit-down restaurant or anything fancy, but it’s perfect for a quick meal that’s filling and delicious. Cook Out has become one of my favorite spots since moving to Lexington. Cook Out is such a staple in Lexington, especially for college students looking for cheap and good food. I love that you can mix and match whatever you want on the tray menu, it’s fun to try new combinations every time. My favorite is a chicken sandwich tray with fries and onion rings, plus a peanut butter milkshake. Everything always tastes fresh and flavorful, and it never takes too long to get your food. The staff is usually really nice, even when it’s packed late at night, which it always is on weekends. The drive-thru line can get a little crazy, but it moves quicker than you’d expect. The best part about Cook Out is how it’s kind of a social spot too, everyone from campus ends up there at some point. It’s definitely one of those go-to places that makes Lexington feel like home.

Google
he burger is juicy and hits the spot, and the crinkle-cut fries are perfectly crispy and seasoned. the service is fast, so you’re not waiting around long. the interior is pretty simple, but it works — nothing fancy, just a straightforward vibe that feels comfortable. great!

Kayla M.

Google
Sat in the drive-thru for over 30 mins. I ordered Cajun cheese fries and there's literally a sprinkle of season and the tiniest amount of cheese possible. Barely anything even on the quesadilla. 😭

Brian R.

Google
I went through the drive through around 2 am. First time going. Pretty simple. 2 drive throughs. They quickly took my order and then gave the food to me. In and out within 8 minutes, which is amazing considering how packed they were for a Saturday night.

Jon P.

Google
I love the food at Cook Out—you really can’t beat the prices. The portions are generous, the food comes out fast, and there’s a ton of variety to choose from. Depending on when you go, there might be a bit of a wait, especially late at night or on weekends, but it’s always worth it. For the price, this place is hard to beat. Whether you’re grabbing a quick burger tray, milkshake, or some late-night comfort food, Cook Out delivers every time. Definitely one of the best bang-for-your-buck spots around

Google
We stopped here for a late night bite to eat. The drive thru is super confusing for someone who is not from the area and has never visited. The biggest reason for it was because we were on the gutter lane, which you don't know to pull around to the side/front where the other pick up window is to pay and get your food. There is a sign avout pulling out, but it's just to keep people from pulling out at the same time as the lane next to it. Just to mich going on in the parking lot. Can't beat the price, and good was good. We definitely would stop in again. Staff were friendly.

Google
I am going to have to visit this location more often, I live in Ohio, and this is the closet Cook-Out. I love it because I am from North Carolina! And Cookout holds a special place for me!
google avatar

Tessa L.

Yelp
We stopped by for shakes on a road trip. We had 2 peach, m&m, peanut butter, and Oreo. It was confusing at first where to order as all but one window was open. Also the speaker system is VERY loud. It was cheap and delicious.

Yelp
I came here after a rough travel day trying to get to Lexington. I was tired and frustrated and was looking forward to a milkshake. My fiancée and I love cookout milkshakes and recently moved to a city without one, so this was something we were looking forward to on our trip. The inside was not open to the public, and you could only order from one very specific window. This was a bit inconvenient, as the signage was confusing and I stood outside the wrong window for a few minutes before someone decided to correct me. The workers were not that friendly, and I could tell they did not care nor want to be there. When I was handed my tray and milkshakes, I had asked for some extra cookout sauce. I tried to explain that I did not live near a cookout and loved the sauce and wanted to take home a few extras, but the man did not care, gave me two sauces, and told me to leave. This was disappointing, but it is their right to say no. I will say, the milkshakes were great and my fiancée said his quesadillas were awesome compared to others he's had in the past. We were sad to see that this cookout did not serve crinkle fries though. Overall the experience had good and bad parts. It scratched my itch for a good milkshake, but this is definitely not the best cookout I have ever visited.

Yelp
I just recently discovered Cookout as it's open very late at night so it's great convenience for a college student who's been hanging out with their friends all night and looking for a late night meal. I usually get something like a burger and onion rings and it's always a top tier hit late at night, and the vibes of the restaurant being only outside makes everything so much better. As an affordable late night food spot that's close to campus, it's perfect for any college student, and it's very easy to meet people as the vibes are always great. Overall the restaurant itself is all outside seating and is usually pretty neat, with the only issue being if it's packed it's hard to find seating which I usually think it's pretty busy. I find this to always be a reliable spot to hangout with friends and get some quality food in.

Yelp
A stop at the Cook Out is always added to any trip to the South, since I no longer live near one. I ordered the same as I always order, a cheeseburger - cook out style, with slaw and chili. So dern good. I also ordered double fries, which were cold, so I didn't eat many of them. The burger was good and a guilt pleasure for sure. So yummy! The drive-thru was exceptionally speedy. They were cranking folks in and out of there like a well-oiled assembly line. This location is right on the UK campus, so students were all over the place. Everyone seemed to be enjoying one another. Great to see.

Patrick W.

Yelp
Asked for pickles on my sandwich. Got onions instead with pickles stated on the receipt. Usually never complain but onions make me sick and now I gotta ride this out and after stating 3 times over the speaker what I wanted on my sandwich lol.
google avatar

Phillip F.

Yelp
Only average, nothing unique, I would rather go to another burger fast food restaurant. The 5 dollar meals at Wendy's and McDonalds are better and much cheaper. I paid 9 dollars for a small sized burger, fries, and slaw. No desire to go back.

Tyler G.

Yelp
I doordashed Cookout, and it came here relativly fast. About 25 minutes. I ordered a double burger with fries, and was very tasty! The fries were a litte soggy, but other than that, it was a pleasant experience. Basic stuff, but tasted very good! I might eat here every now and then.
google avatar

Kimberly W.

Yelp
The burger was delicious. It had that chargrilled flavor. It taste just like a homemade burger off the grill. I like that they have different styles or ways to try a burger. My husband got the cookout style chili dog and said "this is the best hotdog I have had in several years." We were surprised to find a cookout in KY. They are a stable in NC and SC. Got a peach milk shake and had to use a spoon to "drink" it. Will definitely be returning.

Maura C.

Yelp
maura and jonah couples review: Maura: I was very excited to try this location out since I've never had cookout before I've heard a lot of good reviews about this place but when I tried it, it was very mediocre. Tasted like a glorified Wendy's the one good thing I can say was the milkshake was pretty good but everything else was just ok. Jonah: the reason my review is second is because my fingers were too greased up from this greasy ahh burger to type, so i let maura go first. the bun was so soggy, i thought they must've washed the burger before putting it in the bag. i know they have a satisfaction guaranteed policy with a number to call if you aren't 100% satisfied, but honestly i just wanna go home, take a shower, and forget about all this.

Michele S.

Yelp
Food was very mediocre. I think I can grill up a better burger and onion rings myself. I do appreciate the quantity of toppings (grilled onions, lettuce, bacon, cheese), thickness of the patty, and the amount of side of onion rings. But I don't think I'd get this same order if I come back. Culuvers and In N Out and taste way better. Service was very fast, nice simple exchanges with the lady at the register. Prices seemed very fair considering the quality.

Yelp
The cookout is always a good choice. Quick, the workers are positive, and the food is delicious every time.

Duane H.

Yelp
First of all the food here is absolutely delicious. I've never ordered anything that was bad. But my only gripe about this place is the fact that they cannot ever get my order correct
google avatar

Kilian W.

Yelp
FOOD IS SOOO GOOD you get literally a 3 course meal for like 7-9 dollars service is quick and easy, people working there know what they're doing and make it so easy for you 10/10 recommend

Yelp
A year ago, I had to get an MRI at UK on my abdominal area. Prior to the MRI, I was not able to eat for at least six hours. Since the MRI was scheduled for 4:30pm on a Saturday, I couldn't eat or drink anything (even water!) after an early breakfast. This was hard for me because I'm the kind of person that needs to constantly eat and drink water. Anyway, you can bet I was cranky and hungry. And while I was laying in the MRI machine, all I could think about was how much I was looking forward to eating a nice, juicy hamburger. Hamburgers are not my usual craving but my goodness, did I want that hamburger!! Immediately after the MRI, I scanned Yelp to see what good hamburger places were nearby. I found one that looked delicious and drove to the location. I arrived to a dark, empty, and locked building. Incredibly disappointed, I sat in the parking lot and scanned the app to see why, and what else may be nearby. Then I looked up across and down the street and saw this shining beacon in the dark, rainy night! Cook Out! This would be my burger salvation!!! I pulled into the lot and walked into the building with excitement. I looked on the menu for a cheeseburger and found it immediately. The menu confused me a bit at first, but then I got the hang of it -- pick an entree, then a side.... but you can also pick a side as an entree. What!? Strange but neat. I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, coke float, water. This girl was HUNGRY. And best of all? It only cost me $7!! For all of that! I was not disappointed at all! Everything tasted great. Best burgers and shakes ever? No.... but it did the job. I was satisfied. The burger redeemed me and all was well with the world again. [Review #3 of 2021.]

Yelp
Stop by in the cookout for the first time with my wife and some friends after Luke Combs concert. We were feeling pretty good I must say and we ordered a lot of food and all the grease and goodness help fill our bellies and get rid of some of that alcohol so it was excellent and I will be back

Laura K.

Yelp
I guess I should've stuck with burgers because the BLT was a complete joke! Someone spent 20 seconds shoving some bacon and lettuce on a hamburger bun, no T. Fries were OK but the milkshake is actually ice cream and still undrinkable an hour later.
google avatar

Alyona Z.

Yelp
The food is quick and most times good but lately it's been lacking flavor. The meals they offer are fast food and usually good but this time around it was subpar. I don't normally say anything destructive but it was just so disappointing at my last visit that I may just never return unless in desperate hunger... my chicken pulled very funny when I bite into it, which made me question how it's grilled. The nuggets, my dog wouldn't even eat them and the cheese curds were just tiny grease balls. Overall a disappointing experience this time around unfortunately. But not every time can be a 5 experience at a fast food place and I get that, so I'm giving this place a happy medium with a 3 rating.
google avatar

Kara R.

Yelp
I want to cook out, and search for a good meal, because it usually is. Today I went to go pick me up a burger, and drove back to UK hospital, and when I open my food my burger bun was soggy!!! I've been in the hospital for over four hours and every time I usually go the food is good except for today.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
The food is hot and fresh. The service is top notch. Guess that is why they guarantee your satisfaction.
google avatar

Andre P.

Yelp
Stopped in today because my normal stop was closed. Got the burger steak style with fries and O-rings. While it fit what I was looking for I would not go out of my way to come back. The burger was small, good taste. o-rings were crispy but yet greasy, the Fries where the showcase of the lunch, crispy and salty. If you are headed here I highly recommend you drive on down a block and stop at Bad Wolf instead.
google avatar

Yochanan H.

Yelp
We've never had any issues with the food being fresh, but they tend to mix up the orders. I've learned to examine first, especially looking for cheese. I don't do cheese. Also, they have some good options when it comes to milkshake Returned, February 27, for a milkshake: mint Oreos which was great, probably the best yet. Again, they have some great milkshakes.
google avatar

Tammy R.

Yelp
Very good and you get a lot of food for the price. Please open one of these in Murphysboro Illinois!

Yelp
The other day is the first time I dined at a Cook Out to be honest. I have to say that I wasn't mad at it in the slightest. They have a great concept. You get to pick from a large array of items as a main, then pick from a large array of sides. In some cases, the sides are also a main option. Odd concept but nifty. I picked a loaded burger on this day, with white cheese curds and a corn dog side topped off with a large diet soda. LOL. Shut up. I needed the diet soda guys. Service was quick and friendly. The store was packed with customers and the drive thru was pumping people out faster than anything. I was told they have great shakes as well. I think I will have to go back here at some point when I am not in a hurry.

Robyn F.

Yelp
Repeated my order 4 times and still got sub par food. If you do not want to do your job and do it correctly, go home!
google avatar

Saphace A.

Yelp
I can't joke. I know the overall rating is a bit low here, but the food is pretty satisfying. It's not bad, but it's not meant to be some fancy shmancy type of place. It's like if you went to a friend's house who is hosting a grill out, this is what they would serve you. I've always had the burger here with either onion rings, fries, or hush puppies. I've also had the shake which can be a lot to try to finish. They're very good, but now that I can't digest lactose, shakes don't appeal to me. They used to print verses at the bottom of the cups which I thought was cool and I'd occasionally here Third Day playing in the background. College kids loved it. I mean who can beat the prices?? It's more of a late night kinda place, not lunch. But people seem to come in here at all times of the day.
google avatar

Tim E.

Yelp
The food today seemed better than previous visits. I ordered a double burger tray with double fries. The food was out fast and hot. Price of trays are $5.35 but still a cheap place to fill up.

Tyttans M.

Yelp
I was at cookout on 06/29/24 around 2:33am. As I was pulling up to cookout I noticed a very large man standing at his van facing south Broadway taking a piss right there in the lot. When I pulled in and approached him and told him he was being very nasty and disgusting. His reply was and I quote " FUCK YOU BITCH, IM CHIEF WELLS OF HELPING HANDS SECURITY.I CAN DO WHAT I WANT. " And told me to get off the lot. I was very upset that he spoke to me that way for him being head of security. As I rode back through I noticed that he was gone. So I spoke with the other guy he had Russell security on his back I was kind of confused two different names two different companies. But as I talk to this worker from Russell security inform me that it was two different companies and he was subcontracted. And he apologized for the actions of Chief Wells. And told me about no means that does that reflect on Russell security he was very embarrassed that he did that cuz he witnessed it as well. I don't know what cookout is thinking by having that security staff up there. But he was very unprofessional. And gross those are mostly college kids riding by him. And that's how he represent helping hand security. As long as helping hands is there I will not be spending any of my money with cookout.

Miller Y.

Yelp
I am fuming. Every SINGLE time I go to cookout, my order is either completely wrong or missing something. I can't check it while I'm there because they pressure you so hard to get out of line. Tonight I ordered a Jr Tray with the 2 corn dogs, cheese bites, and hush puppies. Get home, open my box, NOT A SINGLE CORN DOG IN SIGHT. Absolutely ridiculous especially when this happens often. How do you make a Jr Tray and leave out the entree???? I'm so mad. Don't recommend this place at all. Staff is rude and you'll never get the correct or full order.
google avatar

Allyson S.

Yelp
This place is super cheap and great hang over food. You can get a tray for like $4.50. So a tray has a main meal then 2 sides and comes with a drink as well. My tray came with a chicken sandwich, onion rings, fries, and a bottle of water. You can customize these trays, they have a wide variety of choices. For example the main meal can be a hot dog, chicken sandwich, burger, etc. They had a ton of side choices like hush puppies, mozzarella sticks, quesadillas, mini chicken wraps, and much more. For the drink I was plain and got a bottle of water but you can get soda or shakes as well. I wish this place was near me because it is so good! I would definitely recommend this place for a fast and cheap meal. The service was super friendly as well.
google avatar

Cathy E.

Yelp
This is a fast food restaurant. We ordered the cookout tray. I got the double cheeseburger, onion rings and a corn dog. The onion rings were average and I was served only 4 rings with my tray. The corn dog was good but nothing special. My son ordered the double cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, and French fries. He had 3 chicken nuggets that were small but said he liked them. Our meal was 12.19 including tax. The cookout tray was 5.25 with the drink being 1.99.
google avatar

Ronald F.

Yelp
Cookout looks like a average burger joint that you would see on the side of the street however is so much more you drive through the drive so you and the efficiently take your order and give you the best burger you may have ever had there is so much more that you would want to try they have cheese curds they have watermelon now shakes that if you have not tried before you hate on it please do because it was awesome and I was a hater. They're fresh delicious food is also served fire later than any place is open now so it was a joy within a joy
google avatar

Kerry F.

Yelp
Went thru the drive- thru at 13:01 ordered 2 cheeseburgers 2 fries & a vanilla milkshake . I live less than 1 mile away from the restaurant so you'd think my fries wouldn't be cold like the cooked them an hour ago, but the were cold & had been sitting around Not good. And the 1 Fancy Shake( their words) had no taste my receipt says 1 water. Didn't order a water and didn't get a water. Wonder if I got charged for it . Can't recommend this restaurant to anyone

wittski W.

Yelp
That was to die for. The lines were mesmerizing. The finest establishment below the mason Dixon line. Truly a life changing experience. The line directors will not lead you astray. Thanks you.

Yelp
Hands down, this is the best regional fast food chain in the United States. And any time I'm in a city with Cook Out, you can be assured that at least one meal will come from Cook Out. The reasons are twofold. Number one, the Cook Out "tray" is the best value in fast food. (A main dish, two sides, and a drink) And you get it for under six dollars. Friday night's meal was a double burger (I splurged a bit to add cheese), onion rings (damned good ones, too), hush puppies (also damned good, but hey I expect a North Carolina chain to get hush puppies right!), and an unsweet tea. Total damage? Under seven dollars. Number two, the food is prepared to order and it tastes great. The burgers aren't the biggest, but the charbroiled taste reminded me a lot of a smaller version of my dad's burgers. Taste and nostalgia together make for a winning meal. And in addition, the food comes out surprisingly fast. The Lexington location handled a football weekend crowd as if it was no big deal. In short, Cook Out proves the old axiom wrong. You can get good, fast, and cheap all at once.

Yelp
I really enjoy cook out and BBQ atmosphere please FIRE the female In drive through she was so rude for no reason before my food came out I asked her for ketchup and mustard and a straw. She said it would be in the bag. I received my order but no straw I asked her again got it then She yelled God Dang! Like I was bothering her at her drive thru job. I asked prior to receiving my order all kf my condiments. she was so annoyed for no reason. Please? Let her go she doesnt like her job. She shouldn't be dealing with customers. She was such a Bitch to me for no reason. She gave me a hand full of mustard 2 ketchup for 2 orders Cajun fries and hush puppies. I asked again may I have some more mustard you gave me 3 for 2 orders. She basically through it at me. Please let this female go!! I was there Sept 8 2023 @ 0102 am order # 13123 cashier drive thru $11.30 total order. BE Kind Or Find another Job. I'm writing a letter too corporate.

Yelp
I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich which looked fine from the outside. It was not cooked on the inside.... If you decide to go here order something less salmonella-y.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
When you go through the drive-through and order your food from the marquee it tells the price on the marquee, but when you get the food and the receipt the price is not just a little change more than what the marquee says but DOLLARS more so be ready for that when you eat at the cookout.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time at a Cookout and I was not disappointed! We stopped on a trip down from Cincinnati to North Carolina and it was the perfect cheap but fun stop in the middle of a road trip. The atmosphere was chill and fun, with a relaxed vibe. You get way more than what you pay for and it's cheap, fast, greasy and worthwhile! I got the Jr Tray and it was $6 for 2 corn dogs, cheese curds, cheese fries and a shake. Amazing!

Vickie B.

Yelp
Burgers and ice cream much better and cheaper than similar competitors!!! Fast friendly service.
google avatar

Allison F.

Yelp
Cook-Out is delicious! The ranch snack wrap is my favorite and the milkshakes! The service is already friendly and quick!
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
Very good food. Prices seemed reasonable for portion size. The milkshakes are out of this world!

Roy B.

Yelp
We used to eat cookout all the time. We loved going there as a family and my kids loved the milkshakes. Then COVID hit and everyone changed the way they did business. I completely understand why they asked us to eat on the picnic tables outside. However, COVID is a thing of the past. Stop asking you customers to sit in inclement weather, freezing temperatures, and no bathrooms. You have a dining area, utilize it. Until you allow people to eat inside we will not be back.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
Great value. Burgers tastes just like a home cookout burger. Lots of shake options. Friendly service and great music in the background.

Destiny J.

Yelp
Always busy but nice employees and great customer service they make you feel welcomed it's like a college joint it's kinda weird just know IF YOU WANNA EAT HERE GO IN THE DAY!!!!!
google avatar

Cassie R.

Yelp
Messes up at least one of my trays in the order every time, pretty rude staff that cuts you off every sentence when trying to order, then wonder why it's wrong. Sweet tea is always good, the quesadillas never have chipotle though which leaves them dry.

Brian B.

Yelp
I just left this location and can honestly say it doesn't compare to the Frankfort locations food quality. This is my second time eating at this location. The first time the quality was sub par I attributed it to covid supply issues. So I told my kids while in the drive thru we'd see if that was the case. No it wasn't, I see and smell chargrill smoke but the flavor isn't on the burgers. We got the joke called Big double burger. White Castle Pattie's are thicker. This location is a rip, I'll be visiting the Frankfort loacation tomorrow. I'm placing the same order and if I don't get the same paper Pattie's. I'm coming back and doing a direct comparison with pictures to post.

Chris B.

Yelp
Dinning room still closed for Covid, has out side seating with no restrooms. Employees say you can use Waffle House next door. Waffle House will not let you use there's. No place to wash hands. Just terrible.
google avatar

Alana M.

Yelp
This is a great spot for fast food lovers. Very inexpensive, $4.99 combos come with two sides! Unexpected! Cajun grilled chicken was really really good! I loved the onion rings! My husband loves the fries! He also got the chicken strips. Alot of meat in them but too much bread for my taste. But no complaints about it! The milkshakes are amazing! Tons of options! Give it a try!
google avatar

Craig U.

Yelp
For fast food, this place pretty much has it all. Seriously. Look at their menu for a moment and you'll figure that out really quickly. And, they're inexpensive. My wife and I ate there today and got stuffed to the gills on $11.92. Not too shabby. The food is fast, fresh, and pretty darn tasty. Definitely recommend the onion rings and bacon wrap for a side. Their interior is also extremely nice for a fast food location as well. Very inviting.
