Cool River is a sit down restaurant in the Dallas Love Field Airport. The food is expensive, but it is one of the few sit down places where you might get something somewhat healthy. They have seats around a circular bar with TVs and tables near the window where you can watch activity outside. Sadly, I always end up against the rail where people rushing around the airport stop to chat on their cell, meet with their travel companions or are milling about. It's a bit intrusive. It's also noisy as you can hear the noise of the people in the airport, music in the airport, and music in the restaurant.
It's not my favorite place, but it beats eating at one of the fast food places.
There were a bunch of empty 2-seater tables and hightop seats near the entrance, but you have to wait to be seated. I'm not sure why because you can use your smartphone and the QR code at your table to view the menu, order food and drink, and pay your tab. I tried this option because it seemed very efficient, and I didn't wait for a server.
I saw my waitress twice. She delivered my Avocado Toast plate ($14) and a glass of water, and then appeared a moment later to deliver silverware and my iced tea. No one checked on me to see how my food was or if I needed a refill. I can use the QR code to add another iced tea to my tab, but it's $3.89 per drink. Usually there is a free refill and that is why the cost of these beverages is usually so high. I didn't see an option to request a free refill, and my waitress wasn't anywhere to be found.l to ask for another.
The online system defaults to a 20% tip, but it seems over the top considering the minimum service I received. You can choose another option, pay it in cash, or write in a custom tip amount.
There is a charity optionally added to the tab, and you have the ability to toggle the switch on to round up your tab amount to the nearest whole dollar. What a great idea to capitalize on a lot of small transactions that probably add up to a lot in a short period of time.
