Best Dishes D.C. Editors Ate This Week: September 3 | Eater DC

"I recently had a great alfresco dinner with my dad at this year-old addition to Old Town, set inside one of the historic neighborhood’s last waterfront warehouses. We caught up on the tavern’s adorable upstairs patio with a frothy espresso martini for me and an Old Fashioned for him. We both signed off on the fried artichoke hearts, which get a Caesar-y twist from anchovy aioli. The chopped Italian salad rivaled the all-time favorite one I get at Carmine’s in D.C. Luckily, we saved room for the Sicilian-style pizza that was much bigger than expected (the 18-inch pies feed four). Loaded with fresh mozzarella, sausage, pepperoni cups, mushrooms, and banana peppers, the thick order held up well the next day after a trip into the oven." - Tierney Plumb

A Treasured Historic Warehouse in Old Town Gets a New Life as a Tavern Next Year | Eater DC

"Set to open in late spring 2024 at 10 Duke Street, this transformation of one of Alexandria’s last waterfront warehouses will become a 6,400-square-foot, two-story tavern, market, and events space overseen by developer Murray Bonitt and Old Town restaurateur Noe Landini. Plans call for a casual, rustic tavern on the first floor and a small market in the back offering to-go breakfast bites, coffee, sandwiches, soups, fresh breads and baked goods from Junction Bakery & Bistro, plus beer and wine, while a sun-drenched private events space upstairs will feature exposed brick, balconies overlooking the park and the Potomac River, and room for about 120 guests. The building — which originally served as a coopers shop for the Alexandria Flour Company and before that operated as a mess hall and commissary feeding Union troops during the Civil War — was first slated to involve James Beard Award-winning chef John Currence before COVID-19 delayed that plan; reconstruction is scheduled to begin this spring." - Tierney Plumb

From the decor to the food, everything was fantastic! I had the meatball app and then a roasted corn salad and both were fantastic! The servers were on top of it and I couldn't have asked for better. Prices are very in line with the quality. Ask about the building - the owners did a fascinating job restoring the structure and were able to keep many of the old elements to create a unique experience! All the brick and wood was cleaned and reclaimed! Check out the original trusses upstairs and the beautiful concrete floor downstairs. Great job guys!

We showed up early on a Friday without a reservation and we were lucky to get a table. The upscale warehouse vibe was really nice. We ate downstairs but I did take a walk around upstairs, the vibe up there was fresh and trendy. Creative menu options and cocktails were tasty and generous. I highly recommend their garlic knots, Hot Honey pizza and the Meatball Zepp. For desert we enjoyed the brownie blast which was to die for! The staff was friendly and our waiter was attentive. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed the garlic knots, stuffed mushrooms and the friendly service. We did not try the pizza but it smelled and looked delicious. We heard lots of people raving about it!

Great venue for lunch. Really enjoyed the Garlic Knotwhich Caprese. The mocktail (prickly pear, pomegranate, strawberry lemonade) was also really refreshing. The Lemon Cake with Marscapone is a must. Great service. Shoutout to Esté.

Came here right after their opening week for happy hour!! Their happy hour is 3-7 PM Mon-Fri with really great selections. Very very much enjoyed their garlic bread - fresh garlic and a tasty sauce included. Aperol spritz was excellent. Love the ambiance.. very cozy for an old town winter spot. Definitely will come back after the opening week madness settles down.

I got a couple of slices of pizza, Chop 'N Char and Bianco, both with lots of topping and thin, crispy crusts. Good food and excellent service in a wonderful historic building.

Great location. Nice spot. Definitely a bar vibe, only high tops. We went for happy hour. Got 2 slices and half a meatball zepp. Zepp (sandwich) was very good, but picking it up was not an option. Knife and fork only. Pizza was okay. (Philly/NY girl here) Andy's has them beat on pizza. Service was good. I'd go back, but not for the pizza Nice neighborhood vibe.

We enjoyed this place. They had a good selection of pizza. They also sell it by the slice. The Greek salad was good. Service was good. Nice decor. I would definitely recommend this place.
