Google
This is a great find! The staff inside was super helpful and friendly. If you need anything meat related, they have it! Wine, seasonings, and meat. They also have prepared foods. So, if you need something for a dinner party or event they have it. They also cater. This is a place we will have to revisit when we are back in San Antonio. Oh, the staff know their meats. They have whatever you need. Highly recommend.

Google
Went here for the first time yesterday when I was looking for some baby back ribs to put on my grill. Thankfully they had them but like anywhere else they were a bit on the pricy side. After doing my dry rub, grilling them over charcoal, and basting them with BBQ sauce, they turned out great! Before anyone else complains about prices I would like to point out from a business angle that transportation costs are on the rise and anything that needs to be transported from a farm or a factory to where it is being sold will be going up due to a high demand for those products and transportation services as well as a short supply of available trucks and drivers. I have worked as a truck driver for almost 30 years and we are very busy for that reason.

I ordered 7 filets but they just threw in a big chunk of tenderloin in the bag. Then what was the point giving a 20% tip then on top of that I get charged a service fee? Filet means a steak cut from the tenderloin. This isn’t the first time that this place has messed up my orders. You all will be better off going to Central Market. They have good quality meat there.

Google
The steak tastes delicious. We haven’t tried anything like it. It was very soft and juicy. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Google
We had an issue with the delivery of our order and Coopers Meat market made it right without any issue. Great service and integrity at this business.

Google
Had an absolute great, and old fashioned style ham sandwhich for lunch here. The big flavorful sandwich was exactly what I was craving!

Google
This market is fantastic! The quality of the meat is top notch and I really appreciate how consistent the cuts and flavors are. I love to get meat here for taste testing different cooking methods and consistency is key. The variety of meat is absolutely insane too. So many different types of game meat that I haven't seen elsewhere in town. I also think their chicken soup is a sleeper hit. My favorite in town to be honest with you. I would say that it is a bit pricey but I think that's bc you are paying for quality. Also, there can be a bit of a wait if it's crowded inside so a good tip is to call in advance if you've got a big order for the butcher to prepare.

Google
Went in yesterday and asked for 2lbs of center cut beef tenderloin vacuumed sealed. The cashier and someone behind the counter laughed and looked at each other and said “do you wanna ask him or should I?” If this request was an inconvenience to them then this either should have been communicated or they shouldn’t imply that it is. This made me feel like I was being unreasonable or a difficult customer which is never my intention. The customer should never be made to feel like an inconvenience. This was incredibly rude and made me uncomfortable to ever go back.

Yelp
Mostly prepared foods. There is some meat but not as much as I would expect for a meat market. It's more the things that go along with your meals.Like sides and casseroles.I did leave with some bacon.

Chelsea W.

Yelp
The food and service at Coopers's Meat Market was outstanding and above expectation. I will be returning to try more delicious food.

Yelp
Disappointed in both service and food. Waited 45 minutes to pick up food that was pre-ordered. Food was too salty. Appetizers were disappointing - one crumbled to pieces when we tried to serve them, one had no flavor, and the third was undercooked. Was hoping this would be an answer to our family gatherings

Yelp
I can't thank Mike Johnson enough!!! I stopped in after a good friend of the family's mother/nannie passed away for one of their fabulous frozen entrees. When he asked if I needed help I told him what I was looking for and he could not have been more helpful!! His suggestions were so good I bought several items and he even offered me a styrofoam cooler so it could be packed up and delivered frozen. He was so genuinely sympathetic and it reminded me why shopping a local business matters. Thank you Mike - it was a pleasure!!

Yelp
Went in on New Years Eve to peruse the selection for a special meal for my family and dog (it was her birthday). The selection of meat is incredible. I went in wanting elk, talked to a very helpful employee who said he only had one piece left and that someone didn't come in the day before to get it. I wound up snatching that 1.5 pounds of elk as soon as he offered to sell it to me. We also bought chorizo and are excited to try both. I will be going back here to buy game meat in the future as they were very helpful and have a great selection.

Yelp
I visited Cooper's Meat Market a few weeks ago when I was visiting family in San Antonio. Even after visiting, I'm not sure I understand what Cooper's wants to be. I guess "meat market" made me think it was a full butcher shop. I wanted to cook a brisket for my grandfather and to support a small business, so I called Cooper's up and asked if they had brisket. The man who answered if I wanted smoked brisket, and I said that I wanted raw brisket that I planned to cook myself. He said they had some, so I drove over. When we walked in, I explained that I had called about buying 4-5 pounds of brisket. I was told that they didn't usually sell brisket like that, but that he would go in the back and see if they could do that. He was really great about it, and I was able to buy some raw brisket from them after all! But I was confused about Cooper's after my visit! Is it more of a deli? A place people go to buy prepared/cooked BBQ? It definitely doesn't seem like a butcher like I had in my mind! Despite the strange experience and a little bit of confusion, the service once I was there was really wonderful. The staff seemed great!

Yelp
Last week I went to this place of business to get an Italian cream cake for my husband's birthday and everything was great until it wasn't. I waited in line like everyone else and while waiting a worker came up to me and asked what type of cake I was looking for and I told him, and moments later he brought that specific cake to me in line. I told him thank you and that I was very grateful for his help. We get to the front of the line and either the owner or manager who was at the register tells me that he can't sell me the cake. I was confused and asked why not as I was willing to pay for it and if needed, more than asking price. I told him that this was for my husband's birthday and he was looking forward to it. Through it all, the owner/manager refused and told he that he was actually saving this cake for someone else and it wasn't for sale. I was still confused because the box had no writing or anything indicating this cake was being held for someone else. As I questioned this, he continued and stayed firm to his original response, NO! I would like to point out that this was beyond embarrassing and would even go to much as saying as I felt targeted. For context, the interaction with the worker who brought the cake to me was in Spanish and I was the only Latina customer in line. I firmly believe that because of this the owner/manager refused to sell me this cake and if this wasn't the reason, the reason provided (that it was for someone else) was used to deter the original motive. Needless to say, I left the store beyond embarrassed and hurt that someone would treat another person this way. This was wrong and I will not be coming back.

Yelp
A couple of years ago I order a butterflied leg of lamb. When I arrived to pick it up meat, the owner, I assume, was a total jerk. He was rude and impatient and acted like he didn't want my business. Go somewhere else and avoid this establishment.

James C.

Yelp
Very high prices and not much for the money.Central Market will be just fine for us.They need to do a better job at what they offer.

Yelp
You need to improve on your on line ordering system. Ordered last week and you didn't even have what I ordered when we picked it up today. 1 of 3 things we got. A notification would've been nice. And there was no place to order desserts on the page. I called and the poor girl on the phone was overwhelmed. Hoping this was just because it was the holidays. Not a good experience.

Yelp
First time buyer from Coopers... I do have to agree with the other reviewers about the lack of ability to see the meat you're getting as well as the cuts... that's no way to run a butcher shop. Everything should be able to be seen so you know exactly what you're getting before you pay... especially premium price. ($25 per pound) Despite this, however, the meat was fantastic. Very flavorful... I got the NY strip and I was very surprised at the flavor this meat had. I'm not so sure I will return because, as everyone else noted, you can get pretty much the same cuts for cheaper at HEB, central market or Whole Foods and then let you pick which one before you buy. Overall I would rate this 4 stars because I was pretty blown away at the flavor of this meat.

Yelp
I wanted to purchase a brisket (at a minimum) yesterday from Cooper's because it was close to my house. As I pulled into the parking lot, I could see that the gentleman behind the counter was maskless and the customer he was serving was maskless too. I didn't even get out of the car and headed to Smoke Shack to buy a brisket and sausage. Customer service at Smoke Shack was great and we look forward to our meals with our purchase. I like my food without the risk of Covid. Do better.

Yelp
Mac and cheese is phenomenal. Chicken tetrazzini is great as well. They have an unnamed cous cous w/ basil and feta that I will be ordering more of. My only qualm is that they don't seem to have an overwhelming organic or grass fed ideology. I could be wrong, but that's my impression.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
This is not a meat market, it's a meat counter. No meats are visible. You order from a menu on the wall, then they go into the back and cut it, bag it, and bring it out. Personally, I like to choose the cut I want and visit with the butcher while he cuts it. The meats are not the only thing cold here. I'll go to HEB.

Yelp
I found out what is in some of the side dishes and gagged. Anybody can throw condensed soup and a few other things together, but to charge what they do for it? Only because it's in San Antonio's "09". Ask yourself why they hide the meat, too-and why it's frozen. There's no telling how old it really is. Conversely, the employees are pretty new most of the time which makes me ask how they treat their help.

Yelp
We've been going to Coopers for almost 20 years and I'm so sad to say that the last few times we've gone, we have been really disappointed. I ordered a specific cut of ribeye and what they cut was about half the size as I requested and my husband said it really lacked flavor. I agree with other reviews that you should be able to see the beef that you're getting. Filets were fine though. The queso is great! Chicken Lizzie's are awesome, and wonderful sides. King ranch chicken is not that great, it is kind of soupy like the other reviewer said. I'll go back to Coopers for their sides, but you can get the same quality of meat-if you're only getting prime from your butcher at H-E-B, and they usually show it to you before wrapping it up.

Yelp
Very bad experience. I had placed a meat order to be delivered to a family member. No styrofoam container , no dry ice.....nothing. Packed in tinfoil and in a paper bag, sitting out side. Nothing on the package that said what it was, no cooking instructions, etc Won't be back.

Yelp
Hands down the best meat in San Antonio. I highly recommend the prime tenderloin. We go there weekly and will continue to do so! Keep up the good work.

David S.

Yelp
Well, with great excitement I finally made it to Coopers.... It is about 5 minutes from home after all. First off, the service was excellent. They have a great selection and lots of stuff to make a meal. Prices are high, but they have stuff that you really can't find anywhere else, particularly the exotics. So, I did a little sampling... Picking up some Coopers Chicken Salad, a King Ranch Chicken premade casserole, and a couple of American Kobe burgers. This is where the disappointment began. The Chicken Salad is dry, I mean REALLY dry, and has almost no flavor. The King Ranch Chicken casserole is like dog food. The flavor wasn't bad, but it is a soupy gooey disaster. I posted a picture of it, pretty nasty stuff. We haven't tried the burgers yet, so fingers crossed that they are good and worth the $15 they cost me. If not, this will be my Last trip to Coopers. What a shame.

Yelp
I wanted to pick up some meat for the week. All of the meat is kept in the back and you pick from a menu what you would like. I would think that customers would like to pick which pieces of meat they want instead of being at the mercy of the butcher and which pieces he wants to get rid of. The big disappointment of the experience was when I ordered the pork chops. Again, it is coming from the back and you can't see what you are getting until they bring it up to the front. They were FROZEN solid!!! Who takes the time out to go to a butcher to get meat and expects frozen meat?!?!?! I was shocked. Needless to say, I will be sticking with the Whole Foods meat department from now on.

Yelp
This is a great butcher shop/meat market in the heart of Alamo Heights. They offer everything from fresh meat to delicious frozen casseroles, prepared foods, party trays and catering options. They make an addictive macaroni and cheese as well as a delicious spinach and artichoke dip. Both are ready to go, just take them home, heat them up, and enjoy! They even sell some amazing homemade cheese crackers (think flattened cheese straws) that are made fresh daily. They're pricy but great to serve at parties or get togethers. Warning: they're highly addictive! They have a huge selection and I love that they offer grass fed beef from local vendors, Kobe beef, bison, some unique items like quail sausage and other seasonal meats in addition to your good old corn fed select beef. Aside from their food offerings they are also a Yeti cooler vendor. I can't tell you how our Yeti has changed our life. Seriously... If you're in the market for a new cooler, the Yeti is the only option in my book. It keeps item cold for days (not hours... Days). And if you really want to get some serious points on the board, it's the perfect present for your boyfriend/fiancé/husband.

Yelp
i'm not sure where to start....their mac and cheese or king ranch chicken casserole. their food is soooooo good. they also have these cheese cracker/biscuit type things that remind me of the cheese one's from Schriveners. SO DELICIOUS. not only do they sell meat, they sell styro cups (the good thick and tall kind) and coolers. I bought my husband a large yeti cooler as a present and he loves it. Coopers is a staple in our house. Try their chile.....it's very meaty and flavorful.

Yelp
The various meats I tried had no flavor and the ribs and brisket had a LOT of fat. The prices were high. The only thing that we had that was good was the Mac & Cheese.

Kyle G.

Yelp
I stopped in because I just moved to the neighborhood and was looking for some quality steaks. They had prime ribeye for $20.99/Lb. which is a great deal. There was a gal working the counter that was very friendly and helpful. Only problem is that they keep all the meat in the back and you don't see what you are getting before you order although I am sure they would oblige if you were to ask to have a look. Even with central market right down the street this place is convenient and in my opinion a great value.
