This was a nice place. The seating in the covered outdoor area could have been warmer. The doors in and out were distractingly loud. Seems like a college town with young servers but our guy was still nice and efficient. The food was good. The BBQ sauce was kinda tart and spicy. Key Lime Pie is TART!!! Overall, would recommend. This was a good stop for a quick drive thru town.

This was my first time ever coming to Cootie Browns and it was fantastic. I had a salad (to be a little healthy), a smoked bologna sandwich, the blue cheese sauce for the fries & the pumpkin pie cheesecake. Everything was AMAZING and probably one of the best things I’ve ever tasted (and I eat a lot of places). The waitress, I can’t remember her name but she had pink & black hair and black nails, was so nice and friendly!! She was super sweet and even gave me other food recs for Asheville. Will definitely recommend & come again!!

Our whole softball team had a great experience at this restaurant. They were incredibly accommodating, the servers were SUPER. The menu was really vast, with lots of great items. The atmosphere was very cool and different. They also had a very good Key Lime Pie, it was very tasty.

The food was great. I never give five stars because you have to be completely exceptional… And it was close to it… Great gluten-free options! And they were very courteous and friendly and we didn’t have to wait too long for the food… The atmosphere was fun and we enjoyed taking photos.

Wife could not stop eating the steak. It was very tender. Sides were good. I loved the asparagus. The portions were all good. Had the key lime and the raspberry pies. Do recommend them. Mason was the perfect waiter. Would like to try some of their sandwiches next time.

Cootie Brown's reminds you of a restaurant at the beach. There is seating on the outer edge of the restaurant with garage doors that can open in the daytime. But there is also indoor seating offered. The menu is huge and offers many different styles of food. They have burgers, chicken, steak, tamales, pizza, salads, BBQ, etc. The chicken was great and the tamale plate was amazing. Kids got burgers and a buffalo chicken sandwich and everything was eaten, so I guess it was good too! Our server was amazing! ETSU student studying to get into forensic science. He was great at recommending plates and was honest with his dessert choices. That swayed our decision and he was not wrong!

My wife had the Key Lime Grilled Shrimp. Seasoned and grilled to perfection. I had the Bbq Pork Nachos. Better be hungry to eat this nacho overload. Both our meals were excellent. Our waitress Maddie F. was excellent. She knew the menu well. Informed of crowd favorites as well as her own. She saw to it that we wanted for nothing. Great dining experience!

Happened to be in Johnson City TN and saw this place. The restaurant is very unique and the menu was too. They had many choices, from Pizza and tacos to Steaks and Burgers to Fish and BBQ. I had the tuna, salmon, and shrimp dinner, jerk style, which was awesome. If you are in Johnson City TN, this place is definitely worth checking out. Great food, great atmosphere, and decent prices. I will be going back the next time I am in town!

While visiting in town, my boyfriend and I decided to try this place out. We were so intrigued with the name, and we are so happy we tried this place out! Immediately, the staff were super friendly, and the restaurant has such a fun vibe/ atmosphere. I thought the newspaper menus were adorable! The service was super quick. We spent about 45 minutes total during lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. For the table, we ordered the BBQ nachos. Super yummy and flavorful! Huge portion, so bring your appetite when ordering this off the menu. I ordered the philly cheesesteak with chips, and he ordered the jerk chicken sandwich with chips. Overall, delicious flavors and decently large portion sizes for the price. Highly recommend if in the area. Will be back when visiting Johnson City later next month.

This place is a gem. Don't let the outside fool you, this place is serving up delicious food that you don't find everywhere! I got the Caribbean jerk chicken sandwich and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had! The service was spot on. Don't sleep on this funky little joint! So good!!!!

Me and my wife stumbled upon this shit show on our way to Sevierville TN. Tried to order an alcholic beverage and couldn't because my ID wouldn't be read supposedly. So that was a bad start. Ordered two tacos for $15, one beef taco( which tasted damn near like Taco Bell) and one fried fish taco which tasted like they put fish sticks in the fryer. wife got a Italian sub which tasted like a cardboard sandwich. Best thing on the menu is definitely the free water. Would've rather starved today. Go Birds

The restaurant had plenty of seating on the patio. It was nice day so we sat outside (we weren't given an option. We were taken to the table at the end of the patio near the restrooms and a big cooler fan which is very loud to sit next to. I felt like we were being out in timeout because we were so far away from literally everyone else in the restaurant. Started with chili it was good and served hot just like I like. Turkey and cheddar was good seemed fresh and decent sized. The chips homemade. The Caribbean pizza was sweet. The fruits on it made it stand out maybe a little on the oily side. The house salad was fairly big for a side, the dressing was really good, homemade. The smothered chicken was good and I was impressed with the spinach and artichoke. I would not think of putting those together but it worked. The key lime pie was delicious. I can see why they are "known" for it. It had two layers and they had so much flavor and just the right amount of tartness. The kitchen was slow. Our waitress checked on us four times before we got our food. Overall, it was a good experience.

Where to start.. if you closed your eyes and could tune out the highway traffic this place would give you Lower Key vibes. Super kitschy fun decor great patio area.. and amazing food (at least what I had.) I was traveling for work so it was just me. I came because I saw the reviews for key lime pie and that's my fav so I thought why not... but the Raspberry fusion pie may be the best thing I've ever had... tangy and sweet layers.. real fruit flavors and textures. I have no words My Cobb Salad was really good too!!! Fresh lettuce and greens, real smoky bacon, the house made blue cheese was on point! Oh and the service was superb.. the only thing I can say is my beer could have been a bit colder.

We finally stopped here for lunch. We absolutely enjoyed it. Our waitress was a doll. Very helpful and pleasant. The food was delicious. Highly recommend.

Quantity over Quantity 3/5 if u just go by quality 85 character limit on reviews is a stupid requirement.

The tamales were delish! The burger was overcooked, the pork was very good but the bun looked and tasted old. Overall it was our first experience, so we wanted to try a couple of their specialities. The pork and tamales did not disappoint. The place feels a bit dirty and smells old, the service was polite but slow and overall not a go to place for us. I would do take out tamales or maybe the pork, but likely not to eat in again.

I just want to start by saying this is my first 5 star rating! I was so impressed by this quaint little restaurant! So many choices, something for everyone! The walls are fun!!! There is glass separating inside dining from outside, so clean I didn't notice the glass at first. The waitress was very personable and friendly; I never had to ask for refills, my waitress was on top of it; sorry I forgot name. I ordered the sirloin with potatoes and vegetables; it was awesome! No need for sauce on the steak! All was very good! Tuesday is tamale day so I brought one home for later.

Service was great. While I didn't love the BBQ sandwich I did like the tacos. I like Cootie Browns, it's not the best place but it's our place. Fast friendly and a large menu:

Back to five stars, thanks to a Christmas Eve visit. The restaurant was open until 4pm on the holiday, and we wanted to do something a little different, so we dropped in. Excellent service today, coupled with all of our favorite choices from the menu (tamales and muffalettas; no pies today though). While we always get roughly the same dishes, I can't imagine anyone that couldn't find something that suits them among Cootie Brown's wide variety of offerings. I've personally sampled many options and I've been pleased with them all.

What a great place! They were busy but the food & service were on point! We really enjoyed the decor and will be back often.

So I gotta say, we were pretty surprised at our find here! Unfortunately we did find a hair in our chips, but they were quick to replace it and offered to comp it. I got the Philly cheesesteak and spiral fries. I asked for a side of the bleu cheese sauce and it was to die for!!! I could have drank it by the gallon, y'all. The key lime pie was delicious. Our server was so kind and thoughtful, honest in her recommendations and they were so right!

Was recommended by a ETSU grad/local. So we came and it's a good place for dinner on a Saturday night. Seated right away. Table for three. Not too busy after 7:00pm. Started off with the Volcano (spicy chicken spiral chips appetizer). Delicious and highly recommended. I ordered the Key Lime Chicken with a house salad with ranch dressing. Salad is on par. Bathe chicken was two chicken "patties" on a plate. It was ok. I dipped mine in the jerk sauce on hubby's and son's plates. Hubby ordered the jerk chicken and roasted sweet potatoes. He loved it. Teenage son had the seafood grill with a side salad with Caesar salad. His also came with the jerk dipping sauce. Mmm good. We also ordered a slice of Key Lime pie to go. Gonna eat that later. We are stuffed. Great service by friendly employees.

The food is great! I haven't ordered anything yet that wasn't delicious. The waiters are nice, friendly, and eager to be of helpful. Ambiance is so cute without being over the top. It is just a great place to eat. We always take out of town guests to Cooties.

We arrive mid afternoon on Friday. At the hostess desk we are told to wait 2 minutes while she seats a couple in front of us. Then she is back and she tells us to wait another 2 minutes. This time she goes over and cleans a booth and chats with a waitress. When she returns she grabs menus and tries to seat us in the outdoor portion directly across from the hostess station about two paces away. We remind her we want to sit inside. We are told to wait another 2 minutes. When she returns she takes us to a table directly outside the toilets so we can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells from the toilets even though other nicer tables and booths are open as we walk to this location. Punishment for us for having to make her walk I guess. The food is up in 20 mins. My burger is so well cooked it looks and tastes like a roof shingle made from beef. Don't waste your breath specifying a burger doneness The cheese is dropped on top without any effort to melt it in place. If it did start out at a half pound it sure in hell is not a half pound when it reaches me since its so dry. Compare this with the reuben sandwich which tastes odd. Pulling off a piece of meat, we both realise all we can actually taste is salt, its very very salty to the point of no flavor. My partner abandons her food altogether. It's just not good. Our server was kind and very attentive. She checked in on us on a regular basis. I think she realized something was wrong, if she did realize, she was right. I'm not sure this establishment should actually be cooking burgers. It's not something they are capable of doing.

The taco salad leaves a lot to be desired. I do not like spicy, overly seasoned and overly salty food. I did ask them to hold the onions, which they did, but I thought, from the description, that the chicken was just grilled. I didn't realize it was also over-seasoned. Fortunately, it was packaged separately, so I was able to wash off the excessive seasoning and reheat it in the oven. But the worst part was the tortilla bowl. It was not edible or fixable. It was tough and chewy, not at all light and crispy. When I tried to bake it and then toast it, it just exuded grease and burned. So I had to eat the salad without the part of the taco salad I get a taco salad for.

Good food. Great service. This was our fourth visit, will be back. Must try pizza next time.

Food and service was wonderful. Portions were huge. We sat on the patio which was nice because of the weather but you basically look out over the street. We will go back.

Cootie Brown's is one of Johnson City's gem restaurants! It's very reasonably priced and has great indoor/outdoor seating in the warm seasons. Not a bad item on the menu but I recommend the thin crust pizza, any of the burgers, or the taco salad!

We went to Cootie Browns (near ETSU) yesterday evening. One of the worst service we experienced in a long time. Our beers were flat, we requested water with lemon the waitress brought us water and said she would bring lemons but never did. We were 5 adults and one child, we requested extra plates for our nachos and she only brought 4 plates and did not even ask if she should bring more plates. One of the worst service experience.

What can I say about a place whose menu is so extensive that no one in our family EVERgoes hungry! Good burgers, tacos and pizza. The spiral fries are too delicious and the desserts ( especially the raspberry) are worth every penny! The original in JC does not serve sweet potato fries just FYI

Always good food and service. Great pizzas and a variety of other options for all taste buds. 2 Grouper and 1 Bang Bang Shrimp tacos were my go to for the night and did not disappoint. My dining partners went for the Memphis Pizza which was packed with pulled pork and smelled amazing as it came out. Only thing bad tonight is I didn't save room for a slice of Key Lime pie.

Love both JC locations. Food is consistently good. Service and atmosphere is good. Always enjoy the Jamaican beef pockets.

So this review is specifically for the key lime pie!!!! It is wonderful...and very different than any key lime I have ever had. I ordered through Goldbelly.com....because I was looking to try a key lime pie from a restaurant known for their key lime. Cootie Brown's got good reviews and so I ordered it. I am so glad I did...and when the pie came it was frozen...and so I let it thaw out enough to cut it and I separated into 2 slices/per container so that I could eat later and not have to eat the whole pie now! I love the pie, love the graham cracker crust and how the key lime flavor is at the top....perfectly sweet/tart. And freezing it, the pie keeps well...the crust is still great even after thawing it out! Love that! I will order again...amazing key lime pie!

Cootie's has come a long way, baby. I'm from back in the days when I was amazed a restaurant came from a vegetable stand and people wondered if PR's would just crush them. I submitted Cooties to Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives years ago. Over the years their menu has expanded (as has their number of locations), mostly for the better, but not always. Good pizzas. Some decent sandwiches (black bean veggie burger near the top).. Spiral chips, yep...bleu cheese sauce..YES! At present, Cootie Brown's seems to be attempting the "cooker of all things, but master of none" that inflicts some restaurants. Other than The Cheesecake Factory, this rarely works out (and I'm on the fence for TCF). I recently re-visited Cootie Brown's for lunch. There was an offer of 3 tacos for $19 (with chips). I have to tell you, the best fish tacos I've ever had remains at Chili Burrito in Brentwood, TN. On Tuesday, I can get 2 of them with chips and a drink for $7. Instead of overpriced tacos, I opted for the "Pulled Pork Sandwich," with BBQ being an offer on their printed, vinyl sign outside. A few hints as to how this went - 1. The pork was chopped, not pulled, 2. The bun was either over toasted or over due to be tossed, but it made a noise when I flicked it with my finger (p.s. don't toast the bbq sandwich bun, folks), 3. the slaw was not on the sandwich, 4. the bbq beans came in the small plastic container that ketchup comes in, and 5. BBQ was offered on a vinyl sign hanging on the roof. BBQ shouldn't be dry. BBQ should be moist and smokey. It should be edible without the sauce. There's a difference in pulled pork and chopped pork. It probably shouldn't be your go to at a place that offers pizza, the tacorito, and $19 tacos. I didn't finish it. I couldn't finish it. It was...terrible. #LessonLearned Holding in my grief. I politely told the cashier everything was fine when I went to pay, and tried to stem my disappointment with a key lime cookie. I saw the cashier nearly use his paw to pull one out of the glass jar, but then he saw the tongs (whew). He then opened the cookie bag by sticking his entire paw down inside to expand it, and used the tongs to drop my fresh cookie in the bag. WTH? Why even use tongs bruh if ya just gonna paw the bag open? So, I paid for a cookie I knew I'd never eat. Cootie, it's gonna be a long time before you see me again.

Food to die for, perfect service, and a family friendly ambiance that hands down is the best in town!

I love the campus location. Food and service are always awesome. That's the only location I would recommend.

The food was great. It had a fun atmosphere. Easy parking. There are two in Johnson City. One is in a plain brick building the other is this fun looking place.

On the plus side, our server was courteous and competent. On the downside, our food was ... Meh. My "club sandwich" was puzzling as it came on a toasted roll instead of three pieces of toast. (Isn't that what makes it a club sandwich instead of a turkey & ham sandwich?) Nonetheless, it was okay except the lettuce was clearly prepackaged bag lettuce with that yucky plastic taste. The "gourmet" oven roasted sweet potatoes were neither cooked through inside and nor crispy outside. They were even a little raw, and had no butter and maple flavor as advertised, but instead a strong burnt oil after taste. All in all, disappointed, especially for the price.

Hadn't been in 20 years. It wasn't a disappointment but it also wasn't as good as I remember. The cheese on my son & husbands philly wasn't even melted & it looked just like frozen steak-ums. The tamales didn't seem as fresh/flavorful as in the past sadly . The service was friendly & quick. Overall, glad I took my guys to see one of my old hangouts but won't rush back.

We were disappointed. After reading the great reviews we expected a memorable meal. We had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and Key Lime Pie. The food was just ok. The portion size was huge which was nice considering the price but nothing special. We decided to eat outside and were seated but our server didn't show up until ten minutes later. He was very nice and attentive so I am not complaining about him. However, you shouldn't wait ten minutes for a drink order. Cootie is ok but doesn't live up to the hype. The one shining light was the pie. That was delicious. Order dessert and skip the meal.

Wow. The menu that has something for everyone. Totally love the vibe. Great place. Don't miss this if you're driving through town. I ordered the Ruben and it was excellent! The salads are also phenomenal.

I ordered a club sandwich to go and it was one of the worst sandwiches I've ever had. It was supposed to be a club sandwich but it was missing half the promised ingredients. What I got was mufaleta bread drenched in Mayo, some cheap tasting ham and Turkey and American cheese. The chips were good. If ever back in the area, I will not return to this restaurant.

This is one of my favorite Johnson City restaurants. They have a huge menu with lots of variety, service is always good, and I love the laid back atmosphere. My go-to favorite is the salmon burger and those to-die-for chips. I have never tried their pizza, but I promise myself that on my next visit, this is what I am going to order.

Key Lime Pie is to die for!!! Food was great, excellent service. Those chips with their amazing homemade ranch dressing - Chef's Kiss. A nice casual down home feeling.

Maytag homemade blue cheese chips are great. But I've never gotten anything else from here that I like. Their key lime pie is great, but who wants to pay $8 for one slice??? No thanks. Service is usually good but it's soo expensive. It's usually overly busy and chaotic and it's not good for large groups. I get overwhelmed by crowded restaurants.

First time trying them, I got some shrimp over rice and veggies. It was pretty good. My husband got some fish, but it was kind of bland. They were very busy, I had to wait around 30 minutes. After we were seated and ordered the good, we had to wait for a while before the waitress came back to fill our waters or ask if we needed anything. I love they have big windows they open, and it feels like you are outside, but the seating are for big groups. It's a well decorated place. There is plenty of parking and wheelchair access.

A great menu the veggie burger is delicious among other good choices. The service is very good, always with the trip.

I received a strawberry pie from Cootie Brown's by mail as a gift. It turned out to be a cheesecake, not a pie, and tastes worse than a cheep cheesecake from Walmart - just sugar with no flavor and a soft falling apart crust. It was, however, well packaged.

Food was good, and the portions are very large. Service was excellent and attentative. Ambiance was pub style.

Great Pizza. Ordered a half pie of tje Beale Street Pizza. Was absolutely delicious. Crust was well done and the sauce was very tasty. Highly recommended.

A pleasant Sunday afternoon surprise, a friend recommended that we try it out, walked in wasn't crowded at all, was promptly seated, server came right over, very friendly, checked on us often, top notch service , she suggested we try tamales as appetizer, were really delicious. Ordered pulled pork grinder sandwich, hubby got bison burger, both were really tasty. BBQ sauce was tangy, chips were really good . Will definitely go back, when in johnson city
