We visited this restaurant on Saturday as a party of five and unfortunately had one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had in Tucson.
When we arrived, we were told there would be a 20-minute wait—even though there were about eight 4-top tables sitting completely empty inside and on the patio, plus four open booths. The owner came over and told us they didn’t have a table for five. It was hard to understand why they couldn’t simply add a chair to one of the empty tables or join two of them. After waiting 35 minutes in a restaurant that was less than half full, they finally joined two booths tables for us while servers were mostly standing around.
We ordered two Caldo de Queso, one Steak Pa Mi (ribeye, medium), one Pollo Pa Ti, two Salmon Xocolate, and two chicken tacos for my child.
The first Caldo de Queso soups that came out were essentially broth with a few carrot pieces and cubes of white cheese—nothing like the photos on their website. To their credit, our server seemed to realize something was wrong and took them back. The second version was closer to what we expected and was acceptable.
The two salmon dishes were dry and clearly overcooked. My ribeye had a proper sear, but it had a noticeable unpleasant aftertaste. I’ve been grilling for over 40 years and that flavor is typically the result of unclean grates, excessive lighter fluid, or low smoke-point oil. It was disappointing, especially at this price point. I only ate half of it.
The chicken tacos for my child were the worst part of the meal—bland, with a strange texture similar to canned chicken. My child took one bite and wouldn’t eat any more.
The only dish that felt worth the money was the Pollo Pa Ti, which our server mentioned had been cooked by the owner. Good presentation, moist chicken with great flavor.
When we shared our concerns, the server said she would speak with the owner and mentioned the cooks were in training that evening. She said the owner acknowledged that the salmon was overcooked but did not have the curtesy to stop by our table to apologize or adjust the bill. We were charged full price.
In total, we spent $220 on what turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had in Tucson. We had high hopes, but between the unnecessary wait, inconsistent food quality, and lack of meaningful resolution, we won’t be returning.
