Copal

We enjoyed a lovely evening at Copal. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff engaging and the food was inventive - a nice diversion after several days of mole centric meals. We thoroughly enjoyed the tostada with tuna, although the octopus chicharron's didn't work. The bone marrow with shrimp, was awesome, although it could have been half the size - it was so rich. The ribeye was super flavorful. We were initially concerned as it was hard to cut - their steak knives were blunt, it was tender and so tasty. We were too full for dessert. The cocktails we tried were original and inventive, the Mexican sparkling wine was lovely. Highly recommended !!!

Wow, just wow. Copal is that kind of place where everything is just right. Not only the perfect ambiance, an amazing setting in the garden and beautiful interior - but also suuuper friendly staff, and the food is just great. Options for everyone (also enough veggies) and each dish was to tasty, couldn’t get enough! The price/quality ratio is totally on point. Love this place and would go back anytime! Special thanks to Willy, the amazing waiter who made our evening even more perfect. This outstanding service is rare! 🩷

I really enjoyed my big lunch today at Copal. I had the crab, the quelites salad with citrus, the little chicken a jus, and the ate for dessert. I also had a few delicious nanche cocktails and wonderful mezcal. The service was great; I felt like a queen. As a former cook myself, I can say that the talent and skill in the kitchen is very high and they care about what they are doing! I liked the Copal burning, as it contributed an herbal quality to the whole experience and it felt like a dream - but at times it was a little overwhelming and felt like I was getting ready for a temezcal 😉. Maybe a lighter amount of copal would appeal to more folks? In any case, I want this place to be successful- It is an interesting, exceptional restaurant and I’m glad I stumbled upon it.

Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with incredible food. We ate one evening in the courtyard. The beautiful lighting and the smell of incense mingling with the wood grill was almost a sensory overload! Stand outs - Pork Chop was perfection, the Tuna Tostado - wow, Soft Shell Crab Taco - interesting and delicious, and the Lagostino (sauce was so good). The desserts are the best we've had in Oaxaca - especially the Chocolate Dish! Also, the bar is very inviting and as beautiful - great martini! As you can tell, we loved Copal!

Wow! Copal is a MUST! I really love this restaurant. It has been my favorite one during my stay in Oaxaca. Our server DIEGO made sure we had the best experience. From the genius and absolutely delicious dishes, refreshing mixed drinks, delicious desserts, and amazing ambiance. The seafood was so fresh and cooked to perfection. I can’t recommend this place enough.

We found Copal just around the corner from the Holiday Inn Express late at night. Stopped for some drinks.. which were excellent. Next night came for dinner, Willy was our server and we ordered Tropical Ceviche and Costra Oaxaquena for appetizers… both excellent ( I recommend asking for soft tortillas versus tortillas tostado with the ceviche, better fir soaking up sauce), We wanted the Wood Grilled Ribeye, but due to a local strike that was not available. So we went with Grilled Marinated Prawns (if you order these ask for them to be peeled before served) and Wood Grilled Chicken which was not good. They need to send their griller to Spuntino in Mexico City to see how good chicken is done…this is why 4 stars instead of 5! Maybe an off night on the chicken, but rest was great and I would highly recommend!!

Tried the Copal bar - their cocktails are amazing. Take a seat at the bar and enjoy a show of creativity and talent, to taste flavors your were not expecting. Definitely must try as the top cocktail bar of Oaxaca.

Outstanding appetizers mediocre main dishes. I would just do only appetizers and drinks imo. The other main are overpriced imo as well. Mid way through the dinner they walk around burning Palo Santo, and Copal as if you were in a temple which made it a lovely experience.
