The 14 Best Restaurants in Juneau, Alaska | Eater

"A simple lunch spot and ice cream shop a little outside the main cruise ship scene but an easy walk, Coppa offers homemade pastries, locally roasted coffee, and a rotating selection of ice creams. A simple lineup of homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches anchors the menu. (The brown rice salad is a local favorite.)" - Julia O'Malley

Google
We stopped here for some coffee and a gnosh. Carrot ginger soup was delicious and came with a generous hunk of sourdough bread. Berry muffin was also yummy. Lattes were made to perfection. I’d recommend to anyone looking for a pleasant spot to sit and chat over a nice coffee and treat

Google
We stopped by Coppa Cafe in Juneau for a quick coffee, and it did not disappoint! The service was fast and super friendly, and the cafe itself was spotless and inviting. Our coffee was absolutely delicious—perfectly brewed, rich, and just what we needed to kickstart our day. It’s always a plus when you can enjoy great service alongside quality coffee. We’ll definitely be coming back next time we’re in town!

Google
Solid coffee in Juneau where other coffee shops are lacking. Good cappuccino and seasonal lattes. Also, take a look at there bake goods as they have a small but great selection if you visit in the morning. Lastly, we hear they have donuts on Fridays but they go quick!

Joe Martinez (Joe and Leslie)

Google
Great coffee options. Best scones I have ever had!! Big; crispy on the outside; lots of fresh fillings; soft on the inside. Im coming back even just for the scones! And they open pretty early! 630am.

Christina Davis

Google
Delicious sausage and breakfast panini! Coffee bean flavor is on the fruity and tart side, as opposed to a nutty flavor. (Just to help for people who have a preference like me) Otherwise, it was a well prepared latte.

Google
Wonderful place for a cup and treats. Donut Fridays are a must and the Ukrainian daily specials are my favorite. Great place to take my boys before school for their London Fogs and pastries. Just wish they were open on weekends - especially Sundays.

Google
The place is located downtown, so it's easy to go, right next to the bus stations. There's place inside and outside to sit. There's some options for lunch, and it's normal price (I mean, compared to other places over there). There's some vegan and vegetarian option. The people working there are nice.

Google
Came in for coffee and a pastry. Upon the first bite of the breakfast panini, we realized that the parchment paper was left on the patty or slice of cheese. It was a piece of paper the size of the entire panini. We returned it and they took it back with barely a word, telling us they were making a new one. Eventually they returned with a new one mumbling sorry. Disappointing experience as well as service given the glaring mistake. Coffee was fine but nothing to compel our return and risk of parchment paper ingestion.

Yelp
Walked here from the cruise port to get a break from the weak, lazy espresso drinks on the Crown Princess. So glad we did! Our lattes were stellar and their turkey club panini was scrumptious. They use a thick smokey bacon that gives it extra flavor. We can see why it is a locals' favorite spot. Service was slow during lunch rush, but they kindly warned us about the wait. Quality takes time,I believe.

Yelp
(For those who aren't aware) Coppa just recently started roasting their own coffee beans! Being the persnickity coffee snob that I am, I was intrigued by their new venture and ordered a bag of their dark roast -- Midnight Harmony -- for personal homebrew'n. I opted for the French Press: 5 tbspns coarse burr-ground into a 4-cup FP, steeped at ~200F for 10 minutes. Results: excellent! This blend is very smooth, with nutty overtones, and a chocolatey finish. No bitterness, relatively calm (not super bold and in-your-face), and very drinkable straight-up. I prefer my coffee black, though find that few coffees 'make the grade' and require some cream to compensate for their lack of flavor and drinkability. This one, however, passed the test and then-some. I'm drinking the Midnight Harmony black, and loving it. Great job Coppa!

Yelp
We dipped in to Coppa for a pastry and a coffee, and enjoyed both! My partner had a mocha and I opted for the Aztec hot cocoa, which had a nice kick to it. Their savory pastry with egg was flaky and delicious. I always love cafes with Pride flags and signs that signify a queer friendly space! ‍

Yelp
Standard breakfast/lunch cafe type place. 10 or 15 tables inside plus 3 outside. Staff are nice. Sandwiches are on the small side but the price reflects that. Honestly my favorite thing I ate was the gluten "friendly" berry scone - I'm not gluten free but it looked good and it was good!
google avatar

Carrie C.

Yelp
All taste amazing and they have gluten free options for some goodies and meals!! I like a good bowel of homemade soup and this is my go to place. Ingredients are fresh and the staff is very friendly. Coppa is known for their creative espresso coffee menu which is also yummy sitting by their big windows!!
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
Perfect cute little spot and creative drink offerings. Brian loved just the drip coffee (smooth) with a little cinnamon. The Hot Honey latte was another fun one. We also snagged an egg and spinach spiral which is like a croissant-wich but rolled up cinnamon roll style. Duh-licious. Gotta get back to try the neat ice cream flavors!

Cynthia H.

Yelp
The food was delicious. We had the cheese, bacon and egg panini and a rhubarb muffin. The coffee was good. It was nice having fresh water. The bathroom was clean. There was a nice little collection of gifts for sale by local artists. The service was efficient and the server was courteous.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
The Bacon and Brie Croissant, made fresh in-house, is the best thing I've eaten in my life. Except for my wife.
google avatar

King L.

Yelp
I was a little disappointed to hear that they stopped selling ice cream but that did not stop from from still going there. They are still great for coffee and pastries, especially on Fridays when they make the doughnuts. I really like their breakfast paninis and for lunch I really like the soups.

Thomas F.

Yelp
Hands down the best coffee and donuts in town! (Donuts on Fridays ; Kouign-Amann every other day!)

Edward B.

Yelp
Great Doughnut!!!! Do not miss going here on Fridays for their doughnuts. They are well worth the wait
google avatar

Urba M.

Yelp
Got a regular with two flavors - the peanut butter fudge and birch pecan. Both really creamy and tasty. Also tried the spruce tip - very unique flavor but delicious! The deep chocolate and blueberry cheesecake flavors looked pretty good as well - I'll be back next time to try some more. They also carry espresso drinks and hot chocolate for some warmth..
google avatar

Juan A.

Yelp
this rating may be unfair, as i've heard it under new management, but holy man the old owner was a monument to entitlement. regardless, good food & coffee
google avatar

Yelp
Special order, at last minute, resulted in superb service and delicious output. Best baklava the group ever had. Pistachio and orange - not overly sweet and the orange wasn't overpowering.

Mike H.

Yelp
Beautiful little coffee shop and lunch spot near the federal building. Fresh ingredients and the homemade croissants are the real deal. Crispy on the outside and soft and chewy inside. Well worth the walk from the downtown tourist traps, including Heritage coffee.
google avatar

Surai J.

Yelp
Stayed in town for a week. Came here for the coffee but it was the savory spiral that kept us coming back.... 6 times!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
First time here as it is hidden away. Well, not exactly hidden, but quite a way from the downtown area. This coffee shop is actually better known for its ice cream. There is a Coppa food kiosk down on the waterfront which serves up mostly ice cream. The coffee was very tasty and there were lots of tables to sit at. The server was pleasant and our coffee was made quickly and efficiently. The inside of the store is not very cozy but is more designed for a quick stop, not a prolonged stay. There is enough space to get some work done or to simply hang out.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Great little ice cream joint. We hit the little stand in the food court next to Deckhand Dave's Taco stand. Had the halibut tacos and then hit Coppa for ice cream. Had the Birch Butter Pecan - it was proper.
google avatar

Melanie V.

Yelp
Thank god for coppa! They have delicious homemade ice cream and grilled panini sandwiches, if you are looking for a new experience this is a great spot to go on a hot day or for dessert!
google avatar

Gayl B.

Yelp
A bit of a walk from the cruise ship dock but this place is so worth it! I wanted a scone to go with my latte but they were already gone! So I settled for the triple berry muffin, which actually tasted just like a scone! THE BEST "muffin" I have ever had! The latte was also very good. So should you walk here? Absolutely!
google avatar

Jasmine D.

Yelp
I had to try the candied smoked salmon because why the hell not. I absolutely loved it! It tastes a lot better than it sounds. It starts off sweet, as you'd expect, then you're hit with a subtle salty, smokey, salmon flavor. It reminds me of candied bacon, the sweet and salty combo that I really enjoy. Not like I can really come back here because I live really far away...
google avatar

Elaine D.

Yelp
Coppa is Juneau's best ice cream, rich and creamy. There are two very unique flavors that you must try, even if only to sample them --- Candied Salmon and Spruce Tip. I went with the Spruce Tip, which was a taste of the woods in a cup, unusual, but enjoyable.
google avatar

Tommy C.

Yelp
Great coffee and great vibes. The ice cream was remarkably good, as well. I'd highly recommend getting a scoop.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
Okay, I must admit I tried Coppa again... on free ice cream day of course! The lines weren't as long as expected, as they had a good system going and several different flavors. For a "sample", I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised by the size of it. I got the cookies and cream, which was a perfect combination of just the right amount of creaminess and crunch

Laird J.

Yelp
Awesome Friday doughnuts; super coffee; great friendly efficient staff; fun coffee cafe

Yelp
After our glacier kayaking adventure, we walked around Juneau in search of treats for the kids. My youngest loves ice cream, and the Coppa stand at the food truck park seemed to be the perfect item - cold ice cream on a warm day from a local spot. They only had a few flavors to choose from, and he selected the chocolate, so I picked the rhubard sorbet for the adults. Both were really good - the rhubarb was tangy and sweet and light, and the chocolate was thick and rich and creamy. I'd definitely get another couple of scoops if I ever find myself in Juneau again. 2019 Reviews #19

Yelp
Highly recommend the plain laying Amani . Similar to a croissant. Hot honey latte was delicious. Cute coffee shop and a welcome change from the chain coffee shops.

Yelp
Today was me and my 18 month olds first time going there! We were excited to see all the options. We got there an hour after they opened and they were so quick to put out cinnamon rolls and treats that were just made! So many wonderful options of ice cream. My favorite part was some of the to go ice cream pints are in jars that you can bring back and save with! The workers were so sweet. Will definitely go back and tell anyone I know in juneau how great it is

Alex D.

Yelp
They have great ice cream, but you're better off heading to heritage or rookery for coffee.
google avatar

Cheryl C.

Yelp
People rave about Coppa's ice cream, and for good reason. Imaginative flavors and high quality ingredients make for a memorable scoop. On a recent visit they offered rhubarb sherbet, Belgian chocolate and burnt almond and Carmel with sea salt (a flavor so delicious I went back to get more) among others. Their coffee, baked goods and food items are also good, but the five star rating is for the ice cream and the reason I stop by whenever I am in Juneau.
google avatar

Matt D.

Yelp
This cafe is wonderful. I have walked past it for two months now and finally got my ass inside today. They offer a full food menu with veggie options and it seems everything is made in house! They are known locally for the homemade ice cream (rightfully so). Since I'm visiting I wanted to get something I couldn't get anywhere else... Thai salmon melt was amazing!!!!! A hot and satiating panini with cheddar, cilantro, onions, peppers, just delicious. They offer a full espresso bar and everything else like tea ad soda just no booze. If I were local this cafe would be a weekly thing. Service was high school so not as smooth in the delivery or flexibility of conversation but uber nice. Tipped for sure. GO TRY
google avatar

Yelp
Candied salmon and spruce tip ice creams-yes-and they are fab! Salmon is sweet and smoky; spruce has spruce in it. Their base ice cream is so good; you could probably add kelp to it and it'd be good! Hey--dibs on the first taste!
google avatar

Ha T.

Yelp
They have a tiny little stand by Franklin Street (near the Crab Shack) that sells just ice cream. And ice cream is all you really need. A twist from traditional flavors is always a bonus. Their bonus is the "spruce tip" ice cream. Yes, that's the flavor of evergreen trees, and not something I see everyday. It has an interesting, mild scent that grows on you. It's indescribable. See for yourself.
google avatar

Hailey B.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times. There soup is always good, sanwiches and ice cream can be a hit or miss though. My favorite ice cream they make is the Sentinel Coffee, I tried the coffee and donuts which was a big miss. Huge chunks of stale dounugts that made the coffee ice cream taste off. They are super expensive compared to their portion sizes tho.
google avatar

Yelp
So done with this place. I went this afternoon (4/27/2017), and it seems that if you go any time after lunch they have zero or almost zero baked goods, because this has happened every time I go in the afternoon. They will tell you they run out because they don't like to have leftovers at the end of the day. Rly? Flour is cheap, if you're going to bake scones and muffins, just make a few more, for chrissakes. Heritage never runs out of baked goods. Coppa staff told me, "ours are fresher than Heritage, we bake every morning." I don't know if Heritage bakes theirs every day or not, but I was impressed when I had a blueberry scone there yesterday. It was moist on the inside and crusty and flaky on the outside, with giant blueberries in it.

Yelp
Coppa is one of a very small minority of food business that I am glad to see in Juneau, with a pride of ownership, consistantly good quality. The food here isn't cheap, but the quality you would be pleased with. Ice cream isn't overly sweet which is important for me, nothing kills the flavor than overwhelming a dessert with too much sugar. It's a premium product. Now are some flavors I that just doesn't appeal to me, but the dark chocolate flavors are a big hit.
google avatar

Rebekah V.

Yelp
Seriously haven't had ice cream this good since living in Japan!!! I've been in town for 7 days and have been almost every day. Their food is delicious too!!! Check this place out, my favorite is the smoked peach ice cream Gonna miss this place so much!!!
google avatar

George S.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream made locally with local Juneau ingredients; craft coffee roasted down the block; salmon caught in local waters. Coppa is a community treasure! Try the tangy rhubarb sorbet in spring, and cherry bourbon vanilla (with cherries harvested from yards all around the neighborhood) in summer. These folks care about their ingredients, their customers, and their community. If you work in the Federal Building you'll be here everyday. Everyone else, make sure you stop by at least once a week ... You need that affogato! (Any negative reviews you might see here since July 2015 are due to the owner's principled community involvement and not the deliciousness of the fare -- support your local ice creamery!)
google avatar

P E.

Yelp
Had the affogato with Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream and whip. Absolutely tremendous. The Sentinel Coffee was superb. Happy service as well.
google avatar

Cheryl K.

Yelp
Went close to closing and they weren't busy at all. Very nice employee. Sign said all ice cream and desserts were made on site. Tried a few delicious samples including spruce tip, rubarb sorbet, and brownie stout. All were good. My husband had a float with a Mexican coke and spruce tip ice cream. So good! I had a warmed, homemade brownie with spruce tip. Delicious!
google avatar

Rich H.

Yelp
I don't understand why people love this place so much. Over priced coffee that taste just like regular coffee you buy in the store. Every time I went in there I felt like I was being judged by the employee's and the crowd. Although the best part about this place is the food. Between the cinnabuns and sandwiches that is all this place has to offer.
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
Incredible ice cream flavors. Don't let your kids get used to this, they will grow up spoiled forever thinking grocery store ice cream is junk. Wow. This small family owned kind of place is a lost tradition and incredibly luck find in you're in Juneau for a few days.
google avatar

John Henry H.

Yelp
Peaceful, relaxed. Great place to get work done or sit outside and enjoy the sun. Some comfy chairs, and large, steady tables for posting up with your computer. Outside seating, which can be hard to find downtown. Quietly crosses off everything on the list you'd want out of a local coffee shop, without being pretentious about it. Plus there's homemade ice cream. A little pricy, like most of Juneau, but good coffee, homemade sandwiches, and the ice cream is excellent. This morning I watched the owner, Mark, deal with a city power outage, while running the front by himself, looked like a staffer had called in sick. While he was serving a series of customers, 3 different groups of 10+ middle school kids came in doing a school scavenger hunt. The kids loudly asked him to pose for pictures, sing while he worked etc... oblivious to terrible timing. Given the circumstances, a lot of people would have snapped. Mark handled it with aplomb. Good people, good food, worth your money.

S T.

Yelp
Their ice creams are inventive but the food is crap. Reheated and bland with a long wait. And no one wants a heavy helping of extreme politics with their overpriced panini. I won't be back.

Janet S.

Yelp
I purchased a "regular" size ice cream...not know what size that really was. Turns out is was around 2 ounces and cost me $5. REALLY!! Did the Queen personally hand churn this ice cream? The flavor wasn't any better than what I can purchase at the grocery store. The only difference in your ice cream is you're willing to try interesting flavors, like salmon, salmon berry, fireweed honey. You really think too much of yourself. I will not be buying your ice cream again. I can buy Gelato for less and get more at another coffee shop in town. Won't go here again.

Jeanette P.

Yelp
I really like the ice cream. We had the Rhubarb and Candied salmon flavors. The service was not so good. We ordered two of the same size and one was half the size of the other. The server was grumpy.

Katharine G.

Yelp
Best latte I found in Juneau. Their salted Carmel ice cream was delicious and I went back for their pumpkin spice roll - a great treat for Fall!

Eden F.

Yelp
Good ice cream! And a sorbet option that was delicious. Baked goods were pretty tasty too. The girl helping us didn't seem interested in being there, not exactly personable but she may have just been having a bad day...

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Best neighborhood coffee shop in Juneau! Art work of local artists changes monthly. Wonderful and inclusive environment.
