After leaving The Copper Kettle, my main thought was just to wonder just how much Gordon Ramsey would be swearing and yelling, because this place was an utter disaster.
Just to begin, the restaurant is in a tiny strip mall that looks like it's 70 years old. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the building was a grocery store when it opened. Then you go in and it's dark and gloomy. The counter is lit, but the menu board was disorganized and unclear.
You have to walk through the dining area getting to the back of the restaurant in order to get to the line. This is meat and 3 style place, so they serve sides, and then you choose a meat. Not wanting to fill up, I ordered a meat and one. Coconut chicken and southern green beans. No drink, no bread. Offered but did not buy.
The Coconut chicken was literally half-cold. The meat was warm, but the breading was not. I took off most of the breading, as it probably would have wreaked havoc on my diet, and the meat was tiny. It looks like they pounded a piece of chicken breast flat, cut into three pieces, and treated each cut was its own piece. The southern green beans were what they were green beans, bits of ham and maybe some tomato. Clearly some salt, but I didn't taste any pepper. I don't want to know how much sugar was in it. $9 for that disaster: if I had more time, I could have gone to Martin's Barbecue, and they would have done a much, much better job.
Details were left out, and I don't know why. Forks and other utensils were running low next to the trays, the bathrooms weren't marked at all. Just doors, and I wasn't certain to use one, the other, or either.
The whole place screams of Kitchen Nightmares before Chef Ramsey showed up to fix things. Management appears to have just given up being good. The Copper Kettle is supposed to be this Nashville tradition, but if you're looking for a traditional Meat and 3, don't waste your time here. Arnold's Country Kitchen is a James Beard-winning restaurant, and it is significantly better. The Subway two doors down is probably a better option and cheaper.
