I know it seems ridiculous that I sought out craft cocktails in a country known for wine, but of all the bars in the area, I really wanted to check our Copper Bay.
They're kind of hidden on a quieter street, and for the sake of neighbors, they actually have a thing that measures sound inside. They have some food, but the focus was the cocktails.
The bar area is legit, and all their tools are copper (shakers, stirs, etc). They have fresh herbs, tons of infusions, and all the other signs of a legit bar.
I love that they give you the ratios for the cocktail recipes on the menu. Drinks are €11-14 each. The regular menu is all in French, but they have an English version, too.
Drinks:
- Clear my colada: rum based, barrel aged, not too fruity or sweet. It sounded like it might be a tiki ish drink, but it was super balanced with a hint of coconut, and the toasted coconut salt on the side was a nice touch. It also came with a super clear ice cube and a really nice quality glass
- Monkey in the yard: whisky based, slightly tart, well balanced, with a gorgeous presentation
Watching the bartender was like watching a performance. She was super skilled with thighs like flipping the cups, and she made everything look so skillful yet easy. The staff was super friendly, as well.
We went before dinner on a weekday, and it was a fairly low key environment. I wish we could have stayed for more drinks, but we had to head out to dinner. I would definitely come back!
