The 25 Best Restaurants In The Hudson Valley 2024 - Hudson Valley - The Infatuation

"Copperfield’s is a pub where locals come to watch sports and sing along loudly to the songs coming out of the jukebox. There’s a chalkboard at the bar of what’s on tap that day (Guinness all the time, though), and like a true sports bar, there are TVs showing whatever big sports game is on. There are several places besides the bar to sit down for British/Irish favorites like fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, or even the Irish nachos loaded with ground beef, cheddar cheese, and Guinness gravy over waffle fries." - Chanize Thorpe, Anne Cruz, Clare Lagomarsino

Copperfields Kildare Pub has a wide craft beer selection with great food and awesome daily specials. Very comfortable atmosphere with a knowledgeable and attentive staff. A great place to go with friends and family in the heart of the village of Montgomery. Give it a try and you’ll come back again and again.

We had an absolutely fabulous meal at Copperfields! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring. The menu is expansive, offering something to suit everyone’s tastes and dietary needs, which made choosing a meal both exciting and satisfying. Every dish we tried was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. It’s clear that a lot of thought and passion goes into both the food and the experience. We highly recommend Copperfields to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
First time in Montgomery NY. Wanted to take my friend to dinner. I told him I wanted a good burger. He suggested Copperfields. Im Irish so going to an Irish Pub was my cup of tea. The burger was great. My friend had a large steak and an Irish gravey. I tasted it and it was really good. It was the perfect level of noise and we were able to not be rushed. They have a really good menu beyond what we got. Really a great place in such a small town. Our waitress was really friendly and did a good job. Price was more than reasonable. Great choice for a great meal. Thanks to Copperfields.

The new owners haven’t even been here a full week and there has already been a massive improvement in the quality and cleanliness of the beer lines. Really one of the only sit down spots in Montgomery and has a beautiful back patio. Gabby is a really funny and will be sorely missed. Haven’t had a bad food expirience. Thank you to the new owners for the quick improvements!

Avoid this place. Have been here several times over the years and was never really impressed. It was always just ok until this latest visit. Came in for dinner on Saturday August 30 and it was the worst experience you could imagine. 4 adults and a hungry toddler. To begin, you enter the restaurant into the bar area. We were met by an irate woman sitting at the bar screaming at the guy she was with. F bombs and other filthy language were spewing from her mouth at the top of her lungs. After getting past her we were seated in the back. Only 1 table had people seated. Server came over fairly quickly and we ordered drinks and appetizer along with chicken fingers for our toddler. By this time other tables were beginning to fill up. 50 minutes later after several requests we finally got our drinks but still no food, although the other tables were served. The server kept telling us your food will be out soon. At this point we left. Will never ever return. Note to owner: if you are a restaurant and people are coming in with children please try to maintain some order when patrons are using loud foul language.

Google
Copperfields hits the spot every damn time. Cold drinks, hot staff…I mean wings, and the staff has just the right amount of sass. The daily specials? Sinfully good. Cozy enough to chill, rowdy enough to party. If you're not into great food, strong beverages, and a little mischief—stay home.

Google
My Husband and I went to Copperfields last night for dinner as my birthday pick; I was looking for beer and a burger & this was the place for it! A friend recommended several spots but once I saw beer cheese on Copperfields menu, I knew I needed to try it, and it was absolutely delicious! We started off with some apps; fried calamari was cooked perfectly, smelt incredible & was sweet & crunchy, we also got the soft baked pretzel that came with beer cheese sauce on the side, oh my gosh it was amazing! Best pretzel ever hands down. We both ordered a burger, medium rare cooked spot on; of course I had the beer cheese burger with bacon and following the trend of amazing. Best waffle fries around, sweet potato fries did not disappoint. We finished the night off with a Chocolate Mousse bomb, and wow that name was fitting, it was so rich and fluffy, chocolate mousse layered on top of a brownie and covered up by chocolate, drizzled with chocolate & whipped cream, just fabulous. We devoured our appetizers, polished off a beer each, both took half our entrees home and split dessert. Our server was wonderful, very kind & personable, she was all for singing happy birthday to me with my husband & even gave me a side of beer cheese to bring home for my left overs. Overall wonderful experience, definitely a spot to go to for anyone; the next table over had children & they all sounded satisfied over all as well - selling point for me because we have 3 kids we’ll be coming back with. I can’t say anything bad. For a Friday night, packed with people, food and service was on point!

Google
By day, Copperfields looks like your average neighborhood bar — friendly bartenders, incredible wings, and maybe even a couple families grabbing burgers before their kids baseball game, a summer concert, or even a parade. But don’t let that fool you. Once the sun goes down and the volume goes up, this place transforms into something that’d make your grandma clutch her pearls. 11/10

Yelp
Warm Pub atmosphere, great burgers, excellent cocktails, cool local people. Jaimie is a Top Notch Bartender. Best around.

Yelp
Good neighborhood spot. Met up with my nephew here. Definitely pub style interior and vibe Lots of food options, which was nice! Good service. Busy the night of the Yankee game but that should be expected.

Yelp
Where to begin. No acknowledgment from any staff members and finally I am told to sit wherever... well that's interesting because not one of them have been bussed off. I guess staff can't hustle like they used to but between the bar and server there was zero sense of urgency. Waited long periods of time for basically everything. And also, wtf is this "chicken slider". How do restaurants get away with this? Burger was ok but also are they serious with this #111 burger novel... weird. Biggest mistake is when our table ordered another table a round of drinks and the server didn't tell them that we did. Wondering why we didn't get a thank you, that's because the server is too busy pocketing extra money or they don't understand restaurant etiquette. Hand written tickets? Give me a break. What did I actually even pay for. Goodbye.

Yelp
The food was tasty, the service even more tasteful ;), Sarah our waitress was super caring, helped us to celebrate a birthday. Very cozy and antique ambiance, I want to come back that is when we give the high five stars to a restaurant.

Yelp
Nice pub with a great ambiance, in great small village of Montgomery. We were a party of 6 and we were handled perfectly. Very attentive and friendly wait staff, and the tap beers are phenomenal. The food was great! My chili cheddar burger was ALL FRESH MEAT , not a skinny patty. Beautiful! 6 people satisfied. That's an accomplishment for my family. Only one picture sorry to say, but that pretzel picture has 1000 words. When in Orange County, definitely try to get there. You'll love the village too! Cheers!

Yelp
My friends and I were in the area and Copperfield's was suggested. We went in on a Sunday night around 7 pm. 4 adults and 2 kids. The food was good and the service was good. But as we were eating the bar started playing very inappropriate music. One song was Afroman's song "Crazy Rap" which is so nasty I can't quote it here and uses the f-word many times, next Prince's "Sexy M.F." As you can imagine the kids we were with thought it was hilarious. While we may like these songs they didn't se appropriate in this setting. We quickly finished up and paid during this time. As we were leaving we saw that the songs were being played on a jukebox. Needless to say we didn't feel very welcome here after that. Could the staff have skipped the songs or turned the songs down, could they have apologized for the songs. Neither of these things happened. I'm hoping it wasn't because our group included POC and LGBTQ and we weren't local. Whatever the reason they did not make us feel welcome here at all. But the food was good.

Yelp
Not impressed lately with Copperfield's. It has gone down hill in the last few years. Used to get the macaroni and cheese and lately it's just very bland with like no flavor. Food isn't that good and service has been slow too. Every time I have been there it's not even that busy either. The bathroom definitely needs to be redesigned too... couldn't even pull my pants up without opening the door and stepping out to the sink area.

Katie V.

Yelp
I created a yelp account just so I could rate this 1 star. How do you fuck up shepherds pie. It's five ingredients. The recipe is literally gather ingredients and throw that shit in a bowl. If I was Irish I'd be appalled. I'm still appalled. If Hozier ever made the unfortunate trip to this establishment I think he would stop making music and deny his Irish heritage.

Yelp
I don't usually write on places I didn't eat at. I wanted to try Copperfields on the recommendation of a friend, so in we went. The bar was packed. We were told to have a seat. The place is run down and severely outdated, which I don't mind. It's usually part of the dive charm. So then we waited. And waited. Finally the bartender, who was swamped behind the bar, came and gave us menus. She then told us she had to change a keg and would be a little while before she was back. While she was very pleasant and it was evident she was busting her ass, I smelled a bad experience coming. We waited for a while and ended up walking out. The waitress, bless her, was severely overwhelmed. This place definitely needs to hire an extra waitress as it's unacceptable to not have a drink in front of patrons in 15 minutes. I will be clear: this in no way is a bad reflection on the server. More like the owner won't hire help? Who knows... All I know is I have to take this place off my list...

Yelp
Best Pub in the Hudson Valley! Beer selection is great and always changing, food is fantastic. Staff is always welcoming and accommodating. If you are traveling through Montgomery stop here, it's the best place to eat and drink in the village.

Heidi K.

Yelp
Great food, beer, whiskey and friendly staff! Perfect stop for what we were looking for last night.
google avatar

Sylvia F.

Yelp
Great spot to enjoy a meal. A huge list of beers and ales to choose from and a friendly staff to serve you. Situated in the historic Village of Montgomery near the Walkill River you will enjoy a stroll through the Village either before or after your repast.

April H.

Yelp
If you're coming for Monday burger night... here's the menu. In house only. And it's amazing!!!

Paige A.

Yelp
The service and ambiance was awesome and on point. The food was disappointing. The Irish nachos are frozen fries with melted Colby jack topped with the Shepard's pie meat mix. The Reuben was very thin. The wings though were amazing! Crunchy and meaty. And just right!
google avatar

Yelp
Simply ordered tater tots and calamari for a quick bite during General Montgomery Day. Didn't think it was going to be too hard of an order to mess up but I was wrong. Tater tots were cold and not crispy and calamari tasted as if it was cooked previously and reheated in the microwave. Not good! Service was slow and waitress was not so friendly either.

Yelp
The bartender here I don't know her name but she has black hair/ light skin woman and was very rude. I just came Across this place with my friends and we mention to her that we have 5 guest and she straight up told us " oh 5 people defiantly not" my friends felt so bad that some one would speak in such manner. We ended up leaving. I believe if you work serving people you should be nice and pleasant to customers if not you shouldn't be working here.

Krista L.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times. This place is definitely a dive bar vibe. I feel it needs some updating and more cleaning. Overall I enjoyed the food. The service was on par and not exceptional but not bad either. I highly recommend buying smaller ( single serving) bottles of wine and chilling your whites. It's annoying to have to ask for a chilled glass of wine, it's common sense whites get chilled. We came on burger night and it was ok. My burger was definitely cooked; a little too charred on the outside and a little overcooked. I asked for med-well, not well-done. I got the Mac and cheese burger and the Mac and cheese portion on the burger was lacking. It may be fun to have 110 burgers but no one can make that many and have them all taste good. I would recommend having 5 signature burgers or Build- your-own . This way you can make a more quality product. I think like a lot of restaurants around here, the bar style food is what is done best.

Yelp
I'll start by saying it pains me to write this review. I'm not yelper by any means and really don't write reviews often. But I felt very disrespected and unwanted tonight in a place I've been going for 15+ years that I feel like something has to be said. I was born a Montgomery resident and have been going to Copperfield's since I was young and never had a bad experience there. It's a staple in the town with a friendly/ relaxing ambiance being the best around. Food was fantastic as always. Beer selection is the best in town. Which is why this is not a 1 star review.. However the service myself and friends received was unacceptable, unprofessional, and unprovoked, and as a bar manager I would never allow in my restaurant. I'm very aware it can get a bit overwhelming during the dinner rush and maybe it was understaffed tonight but being rude is never the answer. Our waitress was extremely short with us, giving an attitude to my friend when he asked kindly for another beer, never asked us how the food was, snatched my full plate of fries without asking if I was done or wanted a to-go box (felt like she was basically inviting us to leave) and it took over 15mins of sitting with an empty beer for her to finally ask if I wanted another. Meanwhile I never received the water I asked for when I sat down. I will go back because I do support this restaurant and all local businesses but I hope some change is made and I never receive the same treatment as tonight.

Yelp
food was bland. we were a party of 4, but they refused to break down the check to individual. service was not great. server was slow to respond.

Yelp
Got takeout from this friendly local pub during a New Year's trip out of the city. I had a Philly cheesesteak and the Irish nachos (blue collar decadent--sloppy joe meets poutine), and a shepherd's pie for my wife. Everything was filling, cheap, and totally what I wanted. Would return in normal times for a drink.
google avatar

Denise G.

Yelp
Their burgers are always good and cooked to order. Love their onion rings, hubs loves their French Onion soup!

Rhylee R.

Yelp
Me and my family have been eating at Copperfield's the entire time we have lived in Montgomery. It's the best local restaurant and is mine and my family's go to spot to eat. The staff is extremely inviting and bring a great presence to our dining experience. When we call in for takeout, the food is always ready on time and still hot when we make it home. The greatest restaurant in town, by far!

Yelp
So, finding this place was quite funny. I really was not looking for a pub and then I found this cozy spot and was like wow! I need to try this! First, the atmosphere going in is so nice and cozy I absolutely love it. It really has the vibe of a true pub, not the knock off ones you see haha! I really also loved the cozy seating areas that offered spacious movement to not feel crowded during a pandemic. The food? Great portions at great prices. I had large amounts of leftovers the next day that still tasted just as good as when it came out of the kitchen. I enjoyed this nice little spot and will be coming back to see what they have to offer, and possibly any specials!
google avatar

Alyssa R.

Yelp
Food was good although the portions were small. Got a gin and sprite and the pour was weak. My dad got a beer that was flat as can be. Waitress hardly ever came back, took a very long time to get refills. Would definitely never go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I needed a last minute catering order for an event I was having. The staff at Copperfield's pulled it together and got it ready. The food was delicious, nothing was left at the end of the event and everyone kept commenting on how great the food was. A huge thank you to the staff at Copperfield's!

Andrew C.

Yelp
A plus service. Great people great food great atmosphere. Order the cooper fingers and throw them on a burger and thank me later

Tiffany F.

Yelp
I must say the chef and service is outstanding. We have been here 2 weeks in a row and it's been nothing less than perfection each time. The server and bartender showed the best teamwork and were so nice and welcoming. We will 100% be back to see Amanda and Jamie (or Janie). If you go you need to try the burgers, French dip, Shepard pie or the portobello mushroom cap. Those are the items we've tried off the menu so far. Another perk is the GINORMOUS beer selection. So many different choices and they will let you sample them. This place was a 5 star in my book. Oo and before I forget I want to make a suggestion, the cook should make a recipe book to sell so I can make this stuff for my family back in Maryland.
google avatar

Dennis C.

Yelp
Friendly staff great food. Wings, burger, steak ,salad and kids pizza were delicious . Will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Marcie E.

Yelp
A little dark when you first walk in and an overwhelming amount of items on the menu. The chicken melt wrap and waffle fries were actually very good! Would recommend for a lunch spot!
google avatar

T G.

Yelp
Dead ringer inside for the Irish pubs I visited in Dublin years ago. Dark wood, cozy lighting, lots of people chatting and eating and having a good time. Food here is quite good. The Fighting Irish Sloppy Joe was killer, as were the Big Fella Irish Nachos. The Lily White Bangers and Mash was big enough for two people. The Corned Beef O'Benedict was the biggest surprise - best breakfast idea EVER. Brian Boru's Salmon is also a winner. Menu is large enough that everyone should find something to enjoy, including tacos. They even know the right way to pour a draft Guinness, which more than one supposed "Irish" pub fails to do. Casual atmosphere and a great place to bring friends to catch up and enjoy a good meal.
google avatar

Jenn L.

Yelp
We have been here twice. One time as a couple and most recently in a group of 14. We sat outside in the patio area and enjoyed the service. Two weeks ago we were there for a party and the server Jenn was very good. She stayed on top of drinks etc and was willing to let our group move tables and chairs around as we wanted despite the set up that was done. The food was good. We had chicken fingers, train wreck fries, and the pretzel. They were all good. The pretzel and fries were the best. One person got the shepherds pie and didn't like it, the waitress was accommodating and offered to bring something else and take it off the bill. She allowed us to bring it home and after being reheated my mom still enjoyed it. The place is nice, but a little small. Only street parking from what I see, which is not always great. Only other downside is that the restrooms aren't very baby friendly for changing diapers or nursing. Food is good and it's a good spot for pub food and get togethers.

Food C.

Yelp
If you want bad food and no atmosphere this is the place for you. Had been there many years ago and I remembered why I hadn't gone back this time. Met others there for lunch and couldn't believe how large the menu was. Maybe if they paired down the menu to a few good dishes and do those well instead of lots they do badly. Had a spinach salad. This consisted of a plate of spinach, maybe 2 raw mushrooms sliced, some bacon bits and a sliced hard boiled egg. All dumped on a plate. Supposedly the dressing was to be warm balsamic but was clearly bottled balsamic dressings. My companions lunches looked worse. A salmon dish that looked like dog food, over fried fish and chips and a wrap that was dry because of over fried chicken. The service was pleasant so that's the 1 star. They don't have to worry I'll never be back.
google avatar

Deb V.

Yelp
Nice bar. Happy atmosphere and super service. Food is good enough for bar food. Will return to enjoy the place!
google avatar

Nancy S.

Yelp
First but not the last time coming here. What a great find. Lovely and cozy inside with Tiffany lights, dark wood ceilings and bar, lots of Irish memorabilia and a beautiful fireplace that I wish had been on. The waitress was very sweet and kind and helpful. According to my husband the beer was perfect as was his Reuben sandwich which he said melted in his mouth. My roast beef wrap was perfect. The meat was rare and the bacon crispy. The only negative was I was freezing inside but I managed. We will definitely return during the winter

Peter E.

Yelp
Traditional Irish pub. Service was great food were standard burgers, wraps, and sandwiches.
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
So we stopped in for the first time ever since we were walking past on a nice Friday afternoon and there's a sign that says masks optional if you're vaccinated, cool...but it's tight quarters in there and even though we're fully vax'd, we kept our masks on as we were just grabbing a pint and heading for the patio. It became really clear after standing at the bar for 5 minutes while all around us (all unmasked) were getting served, that the bartender had an attitude and we weren't getting a pint. So to he11 with these guys...we left and rejoined our party of 6 at the park who were all thinking of eating there. No biggie for Copperfields. After all, I'm sure that every restaurant can afford to lose a customer while trying to recover from the pandemic...right?
google avatar

Carmine V.

Yelp
$9 for chips and salsa... yeah right. Service was super slow and customer service was subpar.

Aura C.

Yelp
Second time at this restaurant and no regrets. The burger was delish and the waitress was amazing. The ambiance was awesome and I will definitely come by again.
google avatar

Kayla C.

Yelp
The food was good, waffle fries were great, but we were there in the late afternoon where a group of men at the bar were so drunk they were laughing, then fighting, then falling off of bar stools right next to us. We still had a decent time.
google avatar

Karina F.

Yelp
The only reason this is getting a 1 star rating is because of the nice girl who was going to seat us. However, let me give the reason that I really want to give it less. There were six of us on Sat. night for dinner. As we waited to be seated I had a situation with a guy at the bar. He was extremely and unnecessarily rude and nasty. His friend that was with him made a comment, and not sure if it was the case or not, but if he was related to the owner or was somehow in partnership he definitely lost a lot of money this night and left a terrible distaste that made things feel a bit racial. Never did I anticipate having a moment where I'd feel less welcomed in an establishment, and it was embarrassing to have my family there and feel the same. The worst part of it was that no one that worked there tried to assist or diffuse the situation and make us, the patrons, feel welcome. As fast as we entered, we quickly walked out. I'm still very upset at the entire situation and saddened at the lack of unprofessionalism by ANYONE who worked there and could have helped BUT did NOT.
google avatar

Sandy G.

Yelp
OMG the French onion soup was ro die for! Trainqreck fries super yummy fish and chips were enough for my hubby and I to share. Our waitress, Samantha , was knowledgeable, friendly and quick with a recommendation when I couldn't decide what to drink.. This place was top notch! If we ever come back this way again, we will definitely stop by..

Alan L.

Yelp
The stars are for the pleasant servers and overall atmosphere. Prices are good, food looked really good, but I never had a chance to order because the few people working there were so busy but managed to get a couple of drinks in. Guess that indicates it's a good place. Will try again next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Robert G.

Yelp
Since I did takeout I am going to judge this place solely based on the food (the inside seemed mediocre but I didn't get a full look around). I had the chicken ranchero wrap and it was very delicious. The sauce was very flavorful, plenty of chicken and a nice combo of rice, lettuce and cheese. Definitely would go again because the menu looked fantastic.

Yelp
Haven't been here in 20 years. They updated the outside so I figured they did the same for inside. This place smells like and old dank bar. Ugh. We sat in the back room with the glass roof covered in some sort of fabric that hasn't been cleaned in forever. Everything felt sticky and over used and old. We ordered several things and were told, oh we're out of this oh we're out of that. This was a Friday early evening. What the heck? Now I know why I haven't been back in 20 years. Only thing that's changed is that there is no smoking allowed. Please clean up the place.
google avatar

Sam R.

Yelp
Ordered take out from here last night. Our food was ready super fast! Portions were generous and prices were fair. Ive never dined in the actual establishment so i cant comment on it. And at this point who knows when i'll be able to (thanks corona). Hopefully soon!
google avatar

Mikhaila M.

Yelp
The worst waitstaff. Our waiter was extremely unkind to us. She had brown curly hair and I wish I knew her name. She was angry that we came in later in the evening and took it out on us all night. She said "you people" need to start calling before hand. I don't know what she meant by You People but I could not believe the way we were treated. We would have happily left if they told us it was too late but instead she just passive agressively served us all night. What's funny is I was telling my friend what happened the next day and she said she had also been there that evening and she said the waiter was extremely rude to her and her group. She said she would never go back again. I think they make all their money at the bar so they don't care how people who are ordering food feel. Shockingly awful.
google avatar

Mike O.

Yelp
I knocked off a star because this place was super dark and they had a lot of windows, but curtains on all of them. The waitress we had kind of acted like she didn't want to be there, but the bar staff was all nice. We had the soup and I had a burger all of which were fresh and tasty. Beer on the happy hour was $5 a pint so we had a few of them. Not bad, but open the curtains and let some light into the joint.
google avatar

Crazy B.

Yelp
We were there on the recommendation from the worker at Paul Jr. Design and he wasn't wrong. The wings and irish nachos were great. Nice variety of beers. Friendly atmosphere. Don't remember her name but we had the pregnant waitress and she was very sweet and funny. I will be going back definitely. Good luck with the pregnancy

Yelp
I had not been here in about two years, until the other night. The food is pretty good, but the service was absolutely awful. When we arrived, thie was two other tables being served, and about 4 people in the bar area. We ordered our food as soon as waitress came over as we were both very hungry. It took 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Keep in mind we order Burgers and wings.. The waitress apologized for the wait, and told us another waitress had called in sick. Keep in mind their were two waitress waiting on three tables(one table had two and the other had three people) They also had a bartender working the bar for the four people having drinks. I honestly will never come here again and rather go to a place that does not let me wait 45 minutes for my food. Too bad because I have had much better service in the past
