"Coppersmith announced it is hibernating for the winter, with plans to reopen in mid-February." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal
"Coppersmith — which was recently granted a reprieve on its closing timeline and will now close in late 2020 instead of January 2020 — hosted a bit of a unique “hangover brunch” on New Year’s Day, teaming up with South Boston company IV League to offer a variety of IV treatments onsite to hungover brunchers, claiming to help them feel better with various combinations of saline, a “multivitamin cocktail,” and anti-nausea medication. This is the second year Coppersmith and IV League have teamed up for an event. Nothing says festive like shakshuka with a saline bag." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal
"Coppersmith (40 West Third St., South Boston) will close due to redevelopment of its building, but the huge restaurant has been granted a reprieve from its January 2020 closing timeline — it will now last through late 2020." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal
"An absolutely massive bar, restaurant, and event space is closing in South Boston in late 2020: Coppersmith — which opened in 2015 in a 15,000-square-foot former copper foundry space — will close its doors after a few more seasons. The restaurant announced via press release in November 2019 that the space is being repurposed, resulting in the upcoming closure, which was originally slated for January 2020. With that end date in mind, Coppersmith planned a series of goodbye events — including a Friendsgiving, an Ugly Sweater party, and a New Year’s Eve party — leading up to the closure. The restaurant was granted a reprieve, though, according to a January 2020 press release, and it will now remain open until late 2020. While the restaurant only officially confirmed the closure news in November 2019, its days had been numbered for a while; news first came out way back in January 2019 that the building was slated for redevelopment as a biotech building. Coppersmith has come to be known for its indoor food trucks, its seasonal patio, and its roof deck, upon which sits a vintage Airstream trailer hawking craft beer and cocktails. (While it’ll be a shame to lose one of Boston’s rooftop dining options, South Boston just got a brand new one.) Coppersmith’s menu features hallmarks of pub grub, such as tater tots topped with various decadent accoutrements, nachos, wings, and Buffalo cauliflower, along with pizza, tacos, and entrees ranging from sirloin to Hong Kong-style noodles. Coppersmith has also been a popular event space since it opened, and its two indoor food trucks have hosted guest chefs. Crowds flock to watch sports, too; having two 160-inch projectors onsite will do that. There is no official closing date for the unique Southie space yet, although it will be at some point in late 2020, according to the January 2020 press release, a substantial change from the originally announced January 2020 timeline. This post will be updated when more information becomes available; in the meantime, keep an eye on Coppersmith’s social media for updates on its eventual farewell timeline." - Terrence Doyle
