This was an exceptional and deeply memorable dining experience. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed as part of the family. It feels less like a restaurant and more like being invited into a country farmhouse outside Paris. Intimate, warm, and unpretentious in the best possible way. The food is outstanding and confidently world-class. What makes it truly special is how humble, seasonal ingredients are transformed into remarkably beautiful and refined dishes, many sourced directly from their own farm. Nothing feels overworked or showy. Each plate reflects care, restraint, and a deep respect for the ingredients themselves. This is farm-driven cooking at its highest level. We have traveled extensively, both internationally and across the U.S., and the quality here easily stands alongside the best meals we have had anywhere. The flavors are thoughtful and balanced, and the experience unfolds at exactly the right pace. Equally memorable is the hospitality. The warmth is genuine and personal, creating a sense of belonging rather than service. There is a quiet magic in how food, place, and people come together here. Coq au Vin is not just a great meal. It is an experience rooted in craft, generosity, and intention. A true standout in Portland and a destination worthy of any food-focused traveler.

Coq à Vin feels less like dining out and more like being welcomed into someone’s home. It’s the kind of true farm-to-table experience that reminds you of those European countryside excursions — the ones hosted in a monastery, on a farm, or in someone’s own kitchen — where every detail carries a story. The duck was absolutely beautiful: buttery, tender, and cooked with real care. The pâté was another standout — homemade and paired with a jam made right on their farm, which was so fresh and bright it completely elevated the dish. The pappardelle was delicate and clearly crafted with intention; I just wished for a bit more flavor depth, though its freshness still shone through. Not every dish was my personal favorite, but the craftsmanship and intention behind each were clear. The wine pairing, though, tied everything together — possibly the best in Portland. Each pour felt deliberate and truly enhanced the dishes, turning the meal into something special. It was super generous too, you could take as much as you wanted out of the bottle. While $300 before tip for two felt a bit steep for how many dishes I personally loved solely based on taste, but it did feel justified by the overall experience — intimate, sincere, and clearly made with heart.

What do you get when you combine PNW farm-to-table authenticity with French fine dining? Coq Au Vin! My partner and I had a truly beautiful experience at this unique homestyle restaurant. Vintage decor and Rose's exquisite wine pairings made this 5 course meal a divine gastronomic adventure into chef George's wonderful vision of locally sourced French cuisine. Loved the family vibes of getting to know their children as well! Highly recommended for a romantic dinner for two ❤️

A Truly One-of-a-Kind Experience For my birthday, my husband took me to Coq au Vin, and I had no idea what a true treat awaited us. We’ve dined at dozens of restaurants in Portland over the years and have had many wonderful meals—but nothing prepared us for this special evening. From the moment we stepped inside, it felt as though we’d just walked off a countryside hike into a cozy farmhouse. Rose greeted us with such warmth, and we even met a few of the children as they settled in while their parents prepared our feast they just harvested from their farm hours prior. George brought out the first dish as Rose poured the wine—each pairing perfectly complementing the food. We enjoyed five courses, each with its own unique wine pairing, and every combination was simply outstanding. The layers of flavor, both in the wines and the dishes, were mind-blowing. Throughout the evening, I felt completely at home and genuinely cared for. By the time we said our goodbyes—ending with hugs that felt like those between old friends—our hearts and bellies were full and warm with contentment. Truly a one-of-a-kind experience!

Our party of 5 had such a wonderful experience here. The delicious 5 course French and Italian inspired meal was lovingly prepared by George. It was a true farm to table adventure. Rose provided some lovely wines to enhance the entire meal. Both George and Rose welcomed our family into their intimate restaurant as if we were family. We got to meet some of their wonderful children as well. It was truly a very special culinary treat.

Google
Incredible experience! The people here are so lovely and the food was phenomenal. This is a very special and unique dining experience, I haven’t seen anything else like it in Portland. The food just kept on coming, and each course George made was more fabulous than the last. And the wine pairing Rose picked out to go with each course matched it so perfectly. Plus they shared stories all about what had inspired them to build this restaurant and their menus as they have. It was so charming and special to be able to connect with them and hear their inspiration! Plus I kept raving about this place so much that my parents had to go too. They went for their anniversary this year, and were not disappointed! They’ve since sent many of their friends because it is truly that special! Honestly feel it’s one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Portland, paired with the sweetest and most unique experience of small room dining, with wonderful hosts! Can’t wait to be back!

What a special experience with Rose and George! Our party of 5 came to celebrate my birthday at Coq au Vin and we were treated to a wonderful meal and even more incredible service! Rose and George show such passion for food and hospitality...we felt like part of the family. The dishes were hyper seasonal and all had a wonderful story as to how they came to life. Book a table now...you won't be disappointed!

Coq au Vin is honestly a GEM! The vibe is super cozy and welcoming, and the staff make you feel right at home. You can tell they really care about what they do. The food was amazing! The fact that the menu changes and is never the same is amazing; it keeps things exciting every time! The Coq au Vin dishes were rich and every bite was a burst of flavor! The wine list was spot-on and even the dessert was the cherry on top to my night! If you’re looking for a spot that feels special but not stuffy, this is it. Perfect for date night, catching up with friends, or just treating yourself. I’ll definitely be coming back! 🍷🍽️💛

Yelp
Fantastic experience and wonderful food. Top 5 of all the restaurants we've enjoyed since moving to Portland a few years ago. We had the 5 course meal with the wine pairing. The pork pate with pickle was kind of a fun very upscale version of a hamburger. Asparagus tart was light and fluffy. The salad had a great texture with lots of fresh spring touches. The 69 yolk pappardelle with bolognese was delicious and the coq au vin to finish was complex with a great wine pairing from the same region as the sauce. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the service was almost like being at a friends' house but with really nice, unique wines and delicious food. I can't believe this place only has 4 stars. Someone is wrong. I can't find enough adjectives but you should go and you won't forget it!

Yelp
Family owned and operated farm to table restaurant features a Country French Menu. The husband and wife team raise the animals and grow the greens featured and concise well planned offering that can be enjoyed both price fix or a la carte. Home made pasta is made to order and featured in six core second course offerings. Service is attentive but plan on a leisurely meal as the total staff is five or less depending on the night. We had a broad sampling of European sized plates that included Cassoulet and Coq Au Vin. The jewel is the butcher shop that enables you to purchase cured meats, cheeses as well as whole cuts of standard meats. Return visit was a repeat. Went with the Chefs Menu and wine pairing. Not a disappointment. Again be prepared for a leisurely European dining timeline.

Yelp
Worst experience I have ever had eating. It took over FOUR hours to get through this meal. Service was slow. Portions were small to miniscule and the whole experience was Way WAY over priced. It has a warehouse feel for atmosphere and I was stuck looking at the parked food truck inside the restaurant. WILL never return or recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this farm-to-table spot run by the sweetest husband and wife team! They literally raise their own animals and grow the veggies that make their way to your plate. The menu's got that cozy Country French vibe, and you can either go for a fixed price or pick what you fancy a la carte. The homemade pasta is a must-try - they whip it up fresh for six different dishes that are just chef's kiss. Service is super friendly, but heads up, it's a small team - so your meal might take a bit longer. Totally worth it, though, for the chill vibe and amazing food. We tried a bunch of dishes, all served European style (so, smaller portions), and seriously, the Cassoulet and Duck were to die for. Plus, there's this cool butcher shop part where you can buy some of the cured meats and cheeses to take home, along with some top-notch cuts of meat. Just remember, it's all about taking your time and enjoying the experience, very European-style. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Simply phenomenal. Every dish was close your eyes and forget about the rest of the world delicious. If you're looking for a fast, cheap, oversized meal, this isn't your place. But the prices are appropriate for the quality of the ingredients and artistry of the cooking. The fresh pasta was the best I've ever had (including many trips to Italy), and the cassoulet melted in our mouths. We look forward to visiting again soon!

Yelp
I do not usually review restaurants and waited a day after leaving to make sure I still wanted to do it. Simply the worst restaurant experience I've had in PDX in 15 years. The food was fine. Not amazing, Not bad. But way over priced for very small portions. More importantly, it took over 2 hrs to get our entrees I don't mind a slow pace, but it was absurd. There was only one waiter for all of the tables so I'm sure this was part of the slow service. I appreciate what they are trying to do with a farm to table vibe with fresh ingredients and it shows in the food. Unfortunately, I don't think the owners have much experience running a restaurant in a city.

Yelp
We finally have a proper French restaurant. I hope they're able to scale what is a totally bare bones staff right now. At one point a baby was in the kitchen. I may actually bring my kids here it felt so homey and family founded. I'm not sure what it would look like with thirty covers. The pastas were amazing as were all the wine pairing we got recommended. Highly recommend checking out their oxidative wine section if you're up for an adventure. Service was personal and earnest. They brought out soft boiled eggs still in the shell so you could pick which one went on your Lyonnaise. Will return!

Yelp
Excellent food. Service a little slow but worth the wait. We enjoyed every dish. Husband liked the Pate the best. I loved the cheese and wine. The Coq Au Vin. It was fabulous.

Yelp
I recently dined at Coq au Vin restaurant and was blown away by the exceptional experience. Not only was the ambiance inviting, but the food surpassed all expectations. As someone who values knowing where my food comes from, I was delighted to learn that everything served is sourced from Sea Breeze Farm, their very own farm. From the grass-fed meats to the eggs used in their pasta, every ingredient is farm-to-table fresh. Watching them make pasta right in front of you with their own eggs adds an extra layer of appreciation for the dedication to quality. Coq au Vin is more than just a restaurant; it's a celebration of locally sourced, sustainable dining that leaves you feeling satisfied and content. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates good food with a conscience.

Yelp
I didn't get a chance to eat here, but had our Valentine's Day reservations completely ruined 10 days before. They sent an email saying they changed the menu to a fixed tasting menu and changed the time of our reservation. With tip and paired wine, would have come to exactly $500 for 2. Not what they advertised when we carefully made our reservation weeks ago. Try making a decent Valentine's reservation a little over a week to the big day. Pretty crappy customer service. They could have planned and advertised this a month ago vs sending an email saying everything has changed and they hope all would understand.

Yelp
Five of us ate here and we all agreed, never again. Although the food tasted fine, the prices are not in balance with the portions. We prefer small portions, but when for example, a small bowl of tomato soup costs $18.00, something is out of whack. They have an espresso machine, but we were told it is not for customers. The desserts consisted of gelato or sorbet, nothing else. The service was poor and the space has a warehouse feel.

Yelp
I was excited about going to this restaurant. I thought the food was very good but small portions at prices of between 40 and 50 for an entree. I believe they even charged for bread and butter which seemed outrageous on top of the prices. The service was not good as they were short staffed, but seems intentional as they don't want pay for more staff. They kept telling everyone thanks for being patient we are understaffed. I was charged 75 dollars for three glasses of wine which tasted like cheap house wine. A simple salad for almost 20, and the salad was so small it seemed like a joke. I left enjoying the food but feeling like I was completely ripped off. Buyer beware! This is not NYC this is Portland. Also, I got tired of hearing their baby crying and shopping their baby around for help, and support. I thought this wasn't cute, and, inappropriate for the baby. The dessert was so disappointing way overpriced gelato.

Yelp
If you've eaten in France, you know your meal is not rushed. You also expect your meal to be carefully prepared with the best ingredients. That's what Coq au Vin achieves. Every course was delicious. They greeted you with an aperitif. The service was warm and friendly. The cassoulet was perfect. The wine selection was well paired. The restaurant has an open almost unfinished feel, but it's welcoming and not loud. We'll be back!

Yelp
I don't know where to start because there are so many noteworthy things to mention about this restaurant. The space is very warm and inviting with a good mix of rustic French countryside and eclectic Portland vibes. The guitars on the wall and the cool blues playing overhead were a perfect compliment to the overall atmosphere. The husband and wife team managed to be attentive to guests while also enjoying some sweet moments with their kids who were entertaining themselves nearby. The pace always felt relaxed and it was fun getting to learn about their farm and their family while dining on some absolutely delicious food. We had their fixed menu with a variety of meat and vegetable dishes all with absolutely perfect wine pairings. The bonus was the meat truck located just inside the restaurant where we ordered some salami diablo to take with us for later. This was one of the nicest overall dining experiences I've had in a long time.

Yelp
if you want to be transported to a magical non-American dining experience in a city or town much cooler than here. then this is your place. the food is outstanding, the atmosphere is charming in a rustic industrial way-twinkle lights, the concrete floor slopes downhill a bit-but it's wonderful. it's warmer and quieter than you'd think. given the space, and the "the entire family of owners are involved in and out of the kitchen. The salads, pates, pastas and cassoulets were delicious. everything is fresh and carefully prepared. I cant wait to go back!

David R.

Yelp
If you miss Bistro Agnes (RIP), then Coq au Vin is like meeting the Bistro's French mother from the countryside. A little more rustic, more village square than Champs Elysées, but oh so good. We plan on returning at least once a season - they are ALL about what just got harvested - but their current menu was perfect for a rainy November Portland night. The veloute, the Coq au Vin pasta, the pork cutlet, and the cassoulet, all were plated simply, but prepared so well. And everyone there was sweet, and happy to have us there! We skipped dessert, but brought home several pates from the Magic Meat Truck outside (the story of how they ended up in their location is one worth hearing). Thank you to everyone there! Good luck, and see you again soon!
