"The Sandoval brothers (Mario in the kitchen, Diego front of house, and Rafael in his role as sommelier) are considered three of the biggest stars in Spain’s hospitality industry. This magnificent restaurant, occupying around 1 100m² of space, offers various experiences that take place in stages (in the bar, wine cellar, “sacristy”, kitchen etc) as part of a culinary journey through its elegant facilities, and one which has been designed in a visual way to enhance every sensation to the full. Head chef Mario Sandoval is fully conscious of the need for greater knowledge about ingredients. As such, his “Roots” menu (along with a vegan-vegetarian option) showcases creative cooking which demonstrates the true personal essence of a chef who pays full homage to the very best seasonal ingredients (teardrop peas from Guetaria, shrimp from Motril, wild Galician clams, Toro Bravo beef etc). His cooking also brings to light the research that he carries out in his “agrolab” at the Jaral de la Mira farm-estate." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent food. Amazing wine pairing. Great experience! I have been to all six 2 Michelin restaurants in Madrid in the last 1.5 years, and this one was the best. Mario (the chef) is also a great guy. We happened to randomly meet in a bar later and he recognized me that I was earlier in his restaurant and he bought me whisky

An absolutely amazing experience and definitely without our top 3 of worldwide Michelin experiences. The decor and the journey you make through the restaurant as well your tasting capabilities is top end. We are vegetarian and their vegetarian menu definitely is top end.

Google
Quite a dining experience which includes a tour around the restaurant basement and visits to different room such as the Macallan room, the wine cellar (where you can see the extensive collection of vintage Spanish wine such as the Vega unico and pick the wine for the night) and the sacristy sherry room with sampling of different small bites and alcohol. The tour ended in the main dining area where the main courses were served. Food are mostly Spanish but cooked with the intention of introducing the diner to the history of Spain. Finally ended with three course delicious dessert. To be sure, this is an expensive experience, but one that you would love to have once in a lifetime.

Coque Madrid: A Michelin-Starred Journey Through Spanish Culinary Artistry Madrid’s Coque, led by the Sandoval brothers, is an unparalleled dining experience that skillfully combines culinary artistry, innovation, and tradition, earning it two Michelin stars. Situated in the sophisticated Almagro district, Coque offers an extensive 1,100 m² space designed to immerse guests in a sensory journey through distinct stages on two floors. The Team and Ambience Coque is a testament to the Sandoval family’s commitment to excellence. Mario Sandoval’s mastery in the kitchen, Diego’s refined and welcoming front-of-house management, and Rafael’s expert wine and sherry selections combine for an unforgettable experience. Each brother contributes to a well-choreographed journey through the restaurant’s intimate spaces. Beginning in a cozy English-style bar, moving through a Macallan whisky room, and then visiting a magnificent wine cellar and "sacristy" with sherry poured traditionally by venencia, guests are guided through the culinary process in an engaging, thoughtful manner. The Culinary Experience Chef Mario Sandoval’s “Chamberí” tasting menu is an ode to Spain’s finest seasonal ingredients. From Motril shrimp to wild Galician clams and Toro Bravo beef, each course highlights Spain’s bounty with a balance of inventiveness and reverence for the ingredients. The restaurant also offers a carefully curated vegan-vegetarian option, showcasing Mario’s ability to adapt his creativity across dietary preferences. The tasting experience unfolds with a sequence of delights: beginning with aperitifs, followed by the sacristy experience, kitchen stops, and ending in the dining room. The meticulously crafted dishes, paired with an exceptional, geographically diverse wine list, left us with an unforgettable impression. Service and Atmosphere Each visit to Coque brings an elevated dining atmosphere. The main dining room’s design is chic and sophisticated, with seating arranged to ensure a personalized experience. The décor, elegant and artfully crafted, complements the culinary artistry and supports a leisurely, immersive ambiance that encourages guests to savor every moment. From the precision of the food presentation to the attention given by the entire team, the service is impeccable, ensuring that each guest feels celebrated. Memorable Highlights The commitment to ingredient quality and pairing precision stands out, with each course reflecting a deep understanding of taste and balance. The wine and sherry selections, expertly chosen by Rafael, add an extra layer to the meal’s complexity, enhancing the flavors of each dish. Coque’s constant evolution of its menu to reflect seasonality means that each visit offers a fresh, new experience, filled with elements that surprise and delight. Overall Recommendation Coque is more than just a meal; it is a truly immersive experience, where attention to detail meets high culinary standards. From celebrating a special occasion to exploring some of Spain’s finest ingredients in a memorable setting, Coque’s unique experience is highly recommended for anyone seeking excellence in Madrid’s dining scene.

This spectacular evening exceeded my high expectations for a 2 Michelin star restaurant. I knew going in that the first few bites would be served in various areas of the building, which I thought would be a bit strange, but it was great. It really set the mood for the whole experience, starting with a drink and accompanying bites in a two very different lounges, two very different areas of the wonderful wine cellar, and in the kitchen, before moving to a table. I opted for the premium wine pairings, which turned out to be well worth the steep price. 11 wines, most Spanish, all beautiful, and several absolutely outstanding. I knew one wouldn’t suit my taste, and the sommelier gladly found a substitute. The 11 courses at the table also did not disappoint. Each was both playful and expertly crafted. The progression of flavours and textures was great, and the service and pacing perfect. Overall, the experience was world-class. Very highly recommended, well worth the high price.

Google
What a surprise! Beyond any doubt Coque deserves 3 stars. After visiting such places this year like DiverXO, Alchemist or Alinea I can say that for me personally the food in Coque was simply better. Wonderful service food, wine and service in a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Google
Underwhelming visit. For a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, the food lacked impact—several dishes were bland, and I even found bones where there shouldn’t have been. The pacing of the menu felt rushed, with little regard for my requests to slow things down. The wine cellar is impressive, but the list itself is surprisingly limited and uninspired. Choosing wine on a tablet instead of browsing a proper list at the table felt out of place in a restaurant of this level. Service was efficient but robotic, lacking warmth or personal touch. Overall, the experience didn’t live up to the price tag—poor value for money and far from the standard one expects from such a highly rated spot.

Yelp
Amazing service and every dish was memorable. It was so fun to travel through every part of the restaurant and the cellar. The staff are super knowledgeable and personable- we enjoyed them as much as the dishes. very worth the experience- would come back again when visiting Madrid! Definitely worth the price point given the amount of food and is essentially paired with beverages for most of the starters.

Yelp
visited Coque on a recent trip to Madrid (March 2023) and it was one of the most memorable experiences of the past few years. The tasting menu was amazing, as expected, but it's the first time that I've experienced the change of rooms during the course of the evening. Beginning at the cocktail bar, continuing to the wine cellar, next on to a sherry vault and next to the kitchen before finally settling into the comfy seats in the main room. Service was attentive as one could expect but the explanations of certain things along the way made for an enlightened evening. Highly recommend--score a reservation well before your travels.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning, everything XO should have been. I loved the overall design, constant things to look at, reminded me upscale old Florida in a great way. Rich Sarasota. Service and pace were impeccable, made 3.5 hours fly by. The start of the meal was perfection, going to 5 different locations throughout the restaurant. Not only was it playful, but each location/bite had a purpose. The bar/first location was a cool lounge that I would come back to just hang out at. The wine cellar was out of this world. A little stroll through gets you hyped for your meal and informs an easy decision to pick the wine pairings as you can tell they clearly know their wine. Plating was playful but not over the top performance. Technique, taste and portions were nailed. Only a couple dishes I'd consider less than successful but most things were outstanding. I guess on the negative the only thing that I can say is that nothing wowed so much that I'll remember it years from. However, I'll remember the overall meal and ambiance forever.

Yelp
Amazing dining experience. This establishment made dinner fun. The wine selection was excellent, but the food was a little too seafood heavy for my liking. Nonetheless it was a perfect dinner as my boyfriend and I greeted the new year. Cheers!

Yelp
AVOID THIS PLACE!!! This is by far the WORST Michelin experience I've had so far. Poor (almost nonexistent) service, terrible food (the chef does not even understand how to cook properly), and shamelessly overpriced (340 EUR/ppl). We even found a f**king mosquito in the main dish, and the manager's explanation was that the mosquito was completely normal because the ingredients were organic (what a stupid pretext lol). All the manager did was try to tell us that we did not understand the concept of this restaurant. All I can say is that Michelin 2 Star for this restaurant is a pure joke. Honestly, I would recommend the chef focus on the quality and taste of the food rather than a meaningless experience in which the sole purpose is to inflate the price and overcharge the customers. I would gladly see this restaurant get its 2 stars removed this year. Again, as an honest review, avoid this restaurant. With 340 Euro/ppl, you can get a much better experience elsewhere in Madrid.

Yelp
Rude or racist reservation staff. On a month long European trip trying Michelin/ World Top 50 restaurants and called to make reservation. Started with usual salutation in Spanish but had to switch to English when staff said she doesn't understand (in English) and abruptly hung up the phone. There was no explanation or attempt to get another staffmember. She was either rude or petrified when she heard another language other than Castilian, or both. ¡Que barbaridad!
