Everywhere Worth Eating Between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe

"Stop by this new downtown Sacramento coffee shop any given weekend and the odds of finding a fun pop-up are high. Cora Coffee opened in February and by April their coffee manager, MiMo, placed third in the United States Coffee In Good Spirits Championship. It’s worth, at the minimum, a pit stop as you head east." - Paolo Bicchieri

I was searching for a new coffee shop to study at, and I’m so glad I found this gem right on J Street! The coffee is good—I tried the peppermint mocha. The atmosphere inside is perfect: peaceful, quiet, and with a great view to enjoy while working or relaxing.

Google
Amazing toffee latte and bagels! The cream cheese is breathtaking. Ambiance is lovely, too. The modern design mixed with the plants makes it feel refreshing. A lot of business people will hang here since it’s right next to a bunch of office spaces, but they aren’t a problem or anything. One complaint though is the lack of power outlets. Be sure to have your laptops and phones funny charged if you plan on working here for long periods. Also, the music was a bit loud at some points. If you came here to study I’d suggest bringing your headphones just in case!

Google
Updated review: I ended up frequenting this cafe quite often. I really enjoy their pumpkin spice latte as well as their muffins. It isn't too sweet so it pairs really well with the cofffee. Additionally, the nice latte art always makes my day. I also tried their drip coffee; pretty decent! Lighter and more acidic flavors in coffee isn't my favorite, but I can appreciate the care/quality. Additionally, I like how spacious the Cafe is, so great place to chat with people and start your morning. Old Review: I like this cafe located in a workspace on J street. The decoration is minimal, black and white, which looks modern and sleek. It's accented with plants and reading material about coffee. I think they specialize in Ethiopian coffee. I tried their latte and thought that it was decent for $5/12 oz. They also offer several kinds of teas which is hand brewed. The baristas seem to put a lot of effort in their craft.

Google
This new Downtown coffee shop is my new go-to spot for coffee and working away from home. The baristas are genuinely friendly folks. They have great espresso drinks- I go for a cappuccino, and their drip coffee is well balanced. Though the Curly blend is their house coffee, they also feature different roasters across the country which is fun because I like trying other people's coffee as well! Big fan, I'll definitely be a regular here.

Google
Great spot to come to. Gets me out of the hotel and away from the common Starbucks coffee. Prices are very reasonable to me. I pay more in Arizona.

Google
Visited on recommendation from Fariah Bakery. Solid shop that serves Sey Coffee, but wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. I prefer very light roast and funky black coffee and what they were brewing, tho it was a good coffee for a coffee shop, didn't have the nuances I would've hoped for. Would've been better if what they had on filter was different than what they were doing as a pour over but alas, still a good experience.

Google
Been here a few times because it's conveniently close to my work. However, I'm always disappointed with the quality. Not sure what everyone raves about. I want to like this place, but its not all that. Asked for a large extra shot mocha today. Not sure what I got, as it was very sour in taste. Also wasnt large and the barista didnt mention they only have one size. So for 8 bucks, not worth it.

Google
Relaxed quiet atmosphere. Perfect for working or grabbing a coffee with a friend. One of my favorite coffee shops, and amazing lattes/mocha. Wish they were open later or on the weekend!

Yelp
came in for coffee on a Tuesday morning. Sam was there to greet me; a huge thank you to him. We had a deep discussion about coffee, including the type of coffee they offer and details about some of the beans they once carried. Coffee is good, Good service, Good atmosphere, Strongly advised.

Yelp
Stopped in at Cora Coffee for the first time, after a weekend lunch on a nice Winter afternoon. Located on 12th and J, Cora Coffee has a modern yet elegant vibe to it's interior. And shares a connection to an office location, and has a large meeting room in the main lobby of the Coffee spot. Cora appears to have gone over a nice interior rebrand in the past few years. Where once was a colorful refrigerator alphabet magnet look, is now replaced with Cora's shop name in a beautiful bronze in all caps. And their smiley face logo of a gir, which I later learned represents the owner daughter. Who the shop is actually named after. A Definitely abnice upgrade that gives a more established look inside, to go along with the modern decor. When you first walk in and your view is at the main counter, you immediately notice the "vintage" video display behind the baristas area. Where there's a small anaolog TV, that was playing one of a dozen classic movies on VHS; a visual memory of the 80s and 90s. To the left of the main counter is Cora's pastry display. Once at the main counter, the Barista happily greeted us and asked how our day was going. We looked over the menu briefly and ordered a Vanilla Matcha Latte and a Vanilla Latte. Once our coffees were ready, my girlfriend and I enjoyed them at a small table by Cora's large window overlooking the main street. Overall: Nice coffee shop, beautiful decor, and good drinks.

Yelp
Cora Coffee was located across the street from my hotel. With all the matcha options, I knew I had to give it a try! They had some interesting drink options like ube matcha or jasmine latte that sounded good, but they said they were sweet and I prefer my drinks without a lot of added sugar. I got a regular matcha latte and it was pretty good. I went around 11am so pastries were very limited. I thought the space was very cozy though and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
nice coffee/tea spot in downtown. friendly staff that prepares your drinks in adequate time and serves it to you at your seat. i come here often to study and it's always the perfect environment to focus. occasionally, they will have what looks like work events that may make it a little louder but that's hasn't happened many times.

Yelp
This place is perfect for meetings or college students/ study dates. They provide you with private rooms that include a white board and markers. With a large table that can basically seat 5 - 6 people that has plug access. I believe you do need to reserve & pay for the day or by hour. My husband and I accidentally ran into this place last minute. The front desk was welcoming to us just checking out the rooms to explore. They also had an abundance amount of bathrooms so no worries on lines forming. The coffee was something to look forward to as well!

Yelp
try something different today and absolutely loved it discovering this place was golden. I love the view from inside doing a quick study. I got the iced peppermint mocha and it was delicious. very nice barista.

Yelp
- REALLY enjoyed my iced jasmine latte. Really floral and refreshing. - the bagel was good (maybe a little tough if I'm being picky). I would order it again, though. I would have appreciated the cream cheese being already put on (to help reduce plastic waste). - great ambiance inside on the weekend; quiet but not silent, lots of room to sit with comfy options. could definitely come here with a large group on the weekend. I'll definitely come back to try it again :)

Yelp
Rather simplistic coffee menu here compared to that at other coffee shops in Sac but perhaps this coffee shop is intentionally going for the "less is more" approach based on the drip coffee that I tried. Surprisingly very smooth drip coffee.....almost even pour-over-tier I'd say lol. Had a nice subtle tart finish. Highly recommend getting a sourdough bagel here. Extra toasty and has a super crispy skin on it. A bit underwhelmed on the cinnamon roll in that despite the cream cheese frosting having a delicious tang the roll was stiff and not heated at all. Overall not a bad coffee spot if you need a small coffee & snack pick-me-up in the vicinity.

Yelp
I came here around 12 yesterday and tried their iced jasmine latte with whole milk. I wasn't too sure how I would like it but I like to try new flavors so I went for it. I was pleasantly surprised, definitely tasted like a jasmine tea latte but somehow was coffee. Not too sweet but sweet in a good way. The vibe of this coffee shop is so nice I like being in there with all the plants, decorations, and windows. Service was fast and friendly too. I believe they make their own syrups and change them seasonally so that is a plus!

Yelp
Came in on a Tuesday morning for some coffee. Was greeted by Sam, big shoutout to the guy. Had a heartfelt conversation about coffee, shared what kind of coffee they serve, and some information about some beans they used to carry. Coffee good, Service good, Atmosphere good, Highly recommended.

Yelp
Parking? Street parking with meters Corner location, seems accessible in terms of locality downtown. Fast service. Worth trying Menu is limited but the special items have a great Asian influence resulting in some unique selections We had: Iced coffee: 4/5, a little bitter but otherwise fine Jasmine latte: 5/5, I thought this was really good, well balanced and not too sweet

Yelp
Coffee is delicious! Just wished they had a little bit more seating space with plugs for those not renting a meeting room.

Yelp
I once read somewhere that they were closed on the weekends. When I search them in maps it shows they are open on weekends. I happened to have a Thursday off from work and dropped in really early. It's a little hard to see at first, I did drive past it the first time and had to loop back around. From what it looks like, it might share a space with another building or business. There is only street parking and since it was early, I got a spot right up front and it's free parking until 8:00 AM. It's very clean and modern looking inside. There are several tables and benches and even a little couch area slightly tucked away. The menu is at the ordering counter and kind of small. It's also very small and there doesn't appear to be a lot of flavor options. I tried an oat milk latte with vanilla and it was very creamy. The vanilla was noticeable but not too sweet and I really enjoyed the flavor of the coffee itself. The barista who made my drink was very nice and friendly. They have a VHS tv behind the bar which is really cool. The coffee was pretty expensive for how small the cup was. Over $7 for a 12 oz cup. Overall a cute space which would be a great place to work or meet up with some friends.
google avatar

Yelp
I had a hot Americano. Coffee was strong and flavorful. Great, classic mug. I had the cinnamon roll. I prefer a crispier cinnamon roll, but my partner likes the doughier ones, so I don't think it's a quality issue, just preference. They really liked it. Wonderful icing on top. Substantial enough to have by itself. The ambiance was quiet and solid. Great place to get away from a hectic week and recharge. I would have given 4 stars, but the woman at the counter went above and beyond. Excellent service.
google avatar

Yelp
I got the vanilla oat milk latte and my girl friend got a vanilla cappuccino. The latte was okay, I wish it had more body and flavor. I was expecting a little more for a downtown cafe. We mainly came for the study lounge which was very pretty (nice bathrooms as well!). There are a few outlets and I have never seen the seating area all taken up which is great. I did notice that the couch we first sat on smelled like urine and BO so we quickly moved. I would recommend to avoid the couch area... parking can also be annoying since it is downtown if that is something you are considering. Overall great service from the staff, pretty interior, but mid coffee 4/5

Yelp
We tried Cora coffee today during our Sacramento coffee crawl and we enjoyed our drinks from here! The barista was very friendly and chill. The space has some cool seating areas as well as an office meeting room with a large table you could rent for a work meeting. The barista informed me that their roastery is from Sey Roastery in Brooklyn, NY and their company as a lot of transparency about their coffee beans on their website. I thought it was unique that they source their beans from Brooklyn! A cool coffee shop with the vibes and good coffee!
google avatar

Angel D.

Yelp
Came in for a quality bagel and that's exactly what I got! Bagel quality was delicious and reminded me a lot of east coast texture and overfilled . Bagel is $4.75 + $1 for the seasonal bagel which was the everything bagel. There were 2 bagels left when I arrived so it was the only option so $5.75 plus tax and tip. Order comes with plain cream cheese. Space is really cool. It's a coworking space with several meeting rooms and a few small tables in the front to do other work or have conversations. Noise level might be too high for anyone coming in to study or focus on their solo work. Street parking can be difficult. If you time, park a few blocks further back towards G street, look for the for 1 hour parking signs. It's downtown so parking garages are accessible as well.

Yelp
Coffee: B+ Service: A+ Ambience:B+ I had a cafe expreso was good the only suggestion that I have is please don't serve the milk in gallon size milk jar oh come on guys lol this is Cora Cafe not a truck stop nothing wrong with a truck stop but you get my point

Yelp
First time in Cora Coffee today! It's right by my office on J street. It's a really adorable place! I got the cute drink which is essentially a strawberry matcha. It was soooo good! I'll probably be dreaming of this drink! Yum yum yum! I got it with almond milk. The price was only $6 which I would say is great! The drink was beautiful! And it tasted great! The vibe is giving hipster business coffee shop! I loved it! I already know I'll be back! FYI they have offices that business can rent out!
google avatar

Helen H.

Yelp
The first time I attempted to come here, I couldn't find any parking. I tried again the next day and got lucky. When I first entered the building, there was no one behind the counter. I waited a few minutes until someone came. I ordered a seasonal drink- jasmine latte. It was $7, so I was surprised at how small the drink was. It tasted ok- nothing special and isn't something I would order again at that price.

Yelp
I have frequently business trips for which I often stay at the Sheraton Grand, across the street, so I have been to Cora Coffee a dozen times or more in the past few years. I'm happy to report that their espresso-based drinks have remained very consistent and very good across the years, which, with staff turnaround, is quite a feat in itself. The service has always been friendly and prompt, though at times, there will be a single employee working as the cashier and the barista, so during the morning rush, it can take a little time to get your drinks. In the past they also had croissants and other pastries available for sale, as well as some hot food items. It is super convenient to be able to grab your morning coffee and a quick bite at the same time. Unfortunately, in recent months, they've only been offering cookies and bagels. I don't know about you all, but a chocolate chip cookie is just not what I want to eat for breakfast (though, they did look quite delicious!). The bagels often aren't in when the shop opens (~7am) so I've never seen or or had an opportunity to try them.

Yelp
I absolutely adore Cora Coffee, everything about this business exceeded my expectations. Wonderful, friendly service. The interior is nicely decorated with live plants, and there is plenty of space for relaxing while enjoying your coffee or getting some work done. They were sold out of their seasonal "cute drink" when I visited on a Monday morning. I had the Jasmine Latte (seasonal) with oat milk. Beautiful latte art! I really enjoyed the flavor of my drink, and I drank it down with my pastry in no time. The almond pastry was also delicious - slightly sweet, pairing perfectly with the latte. It's Downtown Sac, so you know, parking can be a bit of a hassle, but don't let this deter you (if anything, find someone to drop you off nearby). All around, an excellent coffee shop you MUST check out if you're debating what place to try next among the many, many options in Sacramento.

Yelp
One of the best perks of "working from home" is the ability to take my work on the go and be productive in various settings. Therefore, I was ecstatic when a colleague/friend of mine suggested that we meet up to work and catch up over coffee. Without realizing it (you'll see what I mean later in the review), Cora Coffee proved to be the perfect location for sipping on a cup of Jane while working + chatting. When we entered the establishment, we were greeted by an extremely open, modern space with clean lines. To our left was what I believed to be a WeWork meeting space with a group of individuals actively engaged in a discussion. To our right was comfortable seating that resembled what a VIP section probably looks like in a modern club. After taking in the environment, I proceeded to place an order. The employee behind the counter casually greeted me by saying "what's up?" Not sure if this is a new hipster way of greeting customers, or if it's a post-pandemic customer service approach. Either way, it came off (I can totally be reading this wrong) as lazy and very unenthused. After looking at the menu, I ordered the seasonal Jasmine Latte and a walnut cookie on the side. While sipping on our delicious latte's, we were able to comfortably chat. I say comfortably because unlike a majority of coffee establishments, this establishment did not have the coffee shop tunes blaring. Therefore, it proved to be an atmosphere conducive to productivity and conversation that doesn't require you to project an outside voice to the person sitting in close proximity to you. In the near future, I would love to utilize the workspaces for a team meeting over coffee and pastries. I will be back!

Yelp
Cora Coffee is worth checking out! I tried their "cute drink", which is strawberry match and it was delicious! reasonable priced at $6. This place is conveniently located on J st and 12th. Vibe is "hipster business". Minimalist, cute and clean. It's in the same building as a co working place which is a great combination. Service is very friendly.
google avatar

Chimere W.

Yelp
Cora is such a vibe, love their oat matcha lattes and the staff is always so friendly

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for ages, but their location and hours haven't been convenient for me. When a barista at a competing coffee shop suggests a place, you go check it out. This is a coffee shop in the lobby of an office building. They certainly have carved a nice nook within the lobby area. We ordered 3 shots of espresso. They didn't have any single origin bean options, but they did state that the one bean they were using was a single origin. The shots were pulled very well. Lots of complexity in the shot. Maybe the only negative was how long it took to get 3 shots. No one was in line before us and it took like 10+ minutes for 3 shots. We were not in a hurry. Maybe the barista felt they needed to re-pull the shots. Overall, a great place for espresso. I'd definitely return.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
I loved the little reading nook! This place was so spacious but also cozy. Loved the "cute drink" (strawberry matcha), but it was quite small for the price lolz. Will be back :)
google avatar

Mel L.

Yelp
First off, I love the aesthetic of this new coffee shop. So sleek and beautiful yet still chill and approachable. They use Mothertongue coffee which is one of my favorite Bay area roasters I discovered at a coffee festival. I wish they had weekend hours but given their location in the downtown area, it's understandable they are only open during the work week. Street parking can be hit or miss but we got lucky the day we came and snagged a spot right in front. We tried the toffee latte and the cute drink, both of which were very good but I would have preferred my drink to be a little hotter. I loom forward to returning and trying more drinks.
google avatar

Keely H.

Yelp
Such a cute little area and delicious coffee and other drinks. Service was quick and made with care. We would absolutely reach!
google avatar

Yelp
I've had Cora Coffee on my radar for a while but they're only open during the exact hours that I'm working, so we didn't get to come check it out until we were on leave from work. When we walked in I realized why their hours are so limited - they are located inside/next to an office working space so that's likely why their hours match that. It's a beautiful space! Very modern yet cozy, and perfect for working or studying because it's so quiet and you can watch the hustle and bustle of downtown from a window seat. They were working on the menu lettering when we arrived but managed to see the words "toffee" and "matcha ube" which were both in our wheelhouse! My husband had the iced toffee latte with oat milk and I had the "cute drink" which is a matcha ube latte. It had the most beautiful latte art on top! I almost didn't want to drink it and ruin the art.... Almost! We finished our drinks so quickly, they were that good! I also appreciated that my hot latte wasn't piping hot so I could actually enjoy it right away. Great customer service also. Would definitely come back if I get the chance during the work week (or if they open on weekends!!).
google avatar

Anton F.

Yelp
What a gem. Stopped in early morning for a cup of wake me up. There was no line. The menu was short but the Barista told me he could make whatever I wanted. Bright natural light, plants and flowers and the aroma of fresh brewed coffee was a good vibe and ambiance. The cafe mocha was delicious. Found a new spot whenever I'm in the area.
google avatar

Ruru T.

Yelp
I didn't get a picture of my dad's drink, but both drinks we bought were really good! Service was spectacular and the barista was very friendly, I loved the chill vibes of the place. Will come again when I'm in the area!
google avatar

Steven L.

Yelp
One of the best Espresso in Sacramento. Balanced with fruity scent and flavor. I'm glad that I am now aware of the SEY coffee.
google avatar

Gemma M.

Yelp
The matcha Ube latte was okay I didn't really get to taste the Ube part it tasted like matcha latte. The service was good they were friendly but mostly busy place. The ambiance of this place for meeting people. This place is good for business work meeting. Other than that I like it.

TiffCo R.

Yelp
We got the vanilla latte and matcha palmer, and both were spectacular! The ambiance here is such a vibe and the plants are well taken care of. Great spot to study or just catch up with a friend. We wish they had more of a baked good selection! The drinks were so spot on and the barista is super nice.
google avatar

Sandy V.

Yelp
First time coming here, it was a week day so I didn't expect much people here and there wasn't. I didn't realize that most customers were people who worked in the area, but it makes sense. There isn't too many drink options. I got the matcha ube drink and it tasted good but nothing special. I also wasn't aware that their serving cups were so small, especially since the price was steep for a coffee shop. Not sure if I will come back.
google avatar

Anna D.

Yelp
This place is TERRIBLE!! Tiniest cup of coffee fo $9... Not even close to being worth the price. The employees were super stuck up and rude. It took them 10 min to BOTH make ONE cup of coffee!! And the taste was NOT delicious at all... I do not suggest going here. The atmosphere was made to look extravagant but it was more stuck up and cold. Ambiance was snobbish and drab.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
If you want to find a hidden gem Cora Coffee is your spot! This coffee shop is like no other in the area. Love the setup here. The barista is also really cool and make good drinks. He made me a Iced Latte which tasted great! The drink had notes of chocolate from the express, which was nice. I'm definitely coming back here to try more drinks. Would recommend when in the area!
google avatar

Daniella W.

Yelp
Only giving 4 stars because of the lack of outlets for work purposes! But love the coffee, staff and ambiance! Will definitely return, just with my laptop charged all the way up!
google avatar

Linda D.

Yelp
Belated review for an awesome coffee spot! I came in during Memorial Day after checking online to make sure that they were under open. My order was an oat milk white mocha and their Cora Cookie Royale (chocolate chip). The cookie was huge!! However, it was a rich, warm chocolate chip cookie. Cookies can be breakfast sometimes right?! My coffee was very creamy for a white mocha and I had almost doubted that they used oat milk because it was THAT creamy delicious. The space is very open and there are plenty of seats to go around. I sat near the window and was able to enjoy the morning reading a book and finishing a couple of chapters. There were others who came in on that day that also decided to sit, read, and enjoy their morning coffee. There is also a mini garden of plants that more or less serve as a divider and decor. They also serve teas if coffee isn't your jam and pastries! Staff was also very nice! As a bonus, they are now open on weekends! So if you were never and to catch them during the weekdays, be sure to check this place out on weekends.
google avatar

Hangelic R.

Yelp
Love this place! The seasonal cute drink is always a delight! Place is tiny but good to spend some time for drinks and you can even book a meeting space. Very good service, always a nice barista who is quick with drinks and delivers with a smile.

Yelp
Love the aesthetic . Good coffee and coffee cake. I'm a content creator in Sacramento and I am always looking for a new place to work from and this is definitely in my top 5 of coffee shops.
google avatar

Talin S.

Yelp
The staff is so friendly and the coffee is even better. I got the toffee latte and it's the perfect amount of sweetness and the toffee peaks in through the flavor subtly. I love how Cora Coffee is in the heart of downtown. They have a great seating and bathrooms are clean and accessible. Definitely a place I recommend coming to do some work, read a book or catch up with a friend!
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
A seriously inviting coffee shop nestled in downtown Sacramento, my wife and I enjoyed our brief yet super pleasant experience here. The espresso drinks were well-executed and I thoroughly enjoyed my single-origin pour over that even came with a refill!
google avatar

Kiki F.

Yelp
This is an absolutely beautiful, minimalist, vibey space to meet, work & enjoy coffee. But, I really just came to say - coffee cake should not be this damn good at breakfast! I just had the best slice of coffee cake I've ever eaten! It was light, WARM and velvety. Shout out to their chef pastry maker, "Kevin," because YUMMM. Also, the barista accommodated my daughter's cocoa request, which is not on the menu & my oat, vanilla latte was perfect. I'll be back.
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
I come here regularly to check out their coffee selection, which is always changing, and always interesting. Delicious, consistent pour overs and friendly service.

Aubree B.

Yelp
The costumer service was really good we walked and the two lady's welcome us with smiles. I ordered a capuchino and it was delicious and smooth, my dad ordered a Americano and that was delicious as well. The coffee wasn't bitter or too acidic. I liked all of the plants they had around and the geometric design of their counter.
google avatar

Anabel U.

Yelp
Stopped by for a coffee to go since I was in the area. There's only street parking near by but that's normal for downtown. The coffee shop is on the first floor and it's very spacious, clean, and staff is welcoming. I got the seasonal pumpkin spice latte (psl) but it's wasnt anything amazing, just typical. It looks like they only have one sized to-go cups and they can be a bit pricey compared to other coffee shops. I also got a carrot walnut muffin that was the highlight of my trip here. It was a good portion, light and fully and full of flavor.

Anxious Reviews R.

Yelp
Stunning atmosphere and incredibly kind service! I got the pleasure of trying the iced matcha and taro drink, it wasn't too sweet and left me feeling energized!
