Yelp
Man friend and I took a trip out to LoCo this past weekend and wanted to check out both Corcoran's winery AND brewery (see review: http://www.yelp.com/review_share/ZPx7lvOknE_dISNFti4n7Q/review/PB2Oe7cJoxMUwVDVkTQwZA?fsid=TifjlZil1BqEXyPAQML4pw) I love touring new vineyards and picking up bottles of new favorites and support small/local business but I had a hard time finding a wine I liked. Nothing personal and just my preference. If you like sweet and/or subtle wines, then go for it! Personally, I like big, bold, in your face, tastes like a desert in your mouth and/or oaky wines so I felt kind of abandoned here.
WINE__Whites: Viognier (VA's grape made for this subtle wine), Apple WIne (taste changes through aging but could not really taste the apples, more like a suble apple juice with a slight tang), Riesling (NA), Traminette (requested to taste and on sweeter side similar to a riesling), Chardonnay (NA), Rose (subtle and slightly sweet rose)
Reds: Chambourcin, Pinot Noir, Cab Franc(NA), Petit Verdot (NA) Tannat (NA)
Dessert: Cello (NA), Blackjack (sweet), USB ("port" style wine, get it?!), Raz (NA)
Tastings are $7pp and while I did not score a bottle, I did purchase a $5 wine glass to support.
TASTING ROOM__Tiny. Think a claustrophobic's nightmare and because it's an old house, there is a rinky dink air conditioner so if it's hot outside, it's sweltering inside and makes for a rather unpleasant tasting experience. Also due to size of the room, groups of 6 or more encouraged to make a reservation.
STAFF__"meh" and left much to be desired on the basis of product and brand knowledge, accomodation and hospitality. Many times, our taste guide would say she "had no idea and just pour the wine." Thanks ladyfriend, but I can do that myself. Tell me about your wine! Tell me about your vineyard! Tell me SOMETHING! We tried asking her how the wine was made, what grapes were grown on site (there are a few rows of grapes on site), how it'd best be served, etc. and nada. I had to go on reading the winery's description of the wines and my tastebuds for reliance. There were only two women conducting wine tastings and of the 8 people at counter, they seemed to be struggling with the small groups they were tending to and if they were flustered, they definitely showed it. We paid for our tastings and glass and hoped for better at the brewery.
Verdit: Of all the VA vineyards I have visited, Corcoran is probably my least favorite. No hard feelings, the available wines I tasted were just not my taste and while some people would find "charm" in the tasting room, I was uncomfortably hot, crowded, and wanted to get out as soon as possible.
Points for being dog friendly!
