Get in the St. Patrick’s Day Spirit all Season Long at These Chicago Spots | Eater

"Tucked into Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood, Corcoran’s Grill and Pub is the perfect spot to get your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations started. From the traditional Irish decor to the welcoming staff, you’ll feel like you’re stepping into a local Irish pub — that just so happens to offer $6 Jameson Irish Whiskey shots all day. Of course, if you need a pick-me-up on a chilly day, Corcoran’s offers an Irish Coffee that pairs Jameson with coffee, sugar, and freshly whipped cream. And this spot isn’t just a place to stop on your bar-hop; it has plenty of traditional Irish specials, from pub wings and curry chips topped with McDonnell’s curry sauce, to bangers and mash with baked beans and an apple tart dessert with classic Irish custard. Amidst the green twinkle lights, TVs, and raucous crowd, these bites and sips may just feel like your pot of gold at the end of a rainbow." - Ariel Kanter

Random walk near Old Town and wandered into Corcorans. Wings with Guinness BBQ were solid and the chicken Cesar wrap was a home run. Waffle fries impressed bytcheese curds were average.

Google
Great food, great service and good atmosphere. We ordered a Pub nachos with brisket ($18) and a 1lb bone in wings garlic Parmesan ($12). Portions were very big and we couldn’t eat all even though they were delicious! We had a Miller lite pint too ($5.75). Place was full but not crowded. Staff were very friendly and kind. I highly recommend this restaurant for a good meal with fair prices.

Traditional Irish bar in Old Town offering a diverse menu, drink deals, and live performances; plus they're open until late at night.

Classic Irish pub in Old Town with a full menu, drink specials, and live music. Friendly staff and patio seating. Open late night.

Our waitress Emily was welcoming, nice, friendly, and professional. She's nonstop busy organizing other things in the bar, making drinks. She's an asset to this establishment. She also told us that you can rent this place for a private event, just shoot them an email for inquiries. Email addresses was in the photo I posted. Our food was delicious! We ordered an "All day Irish Breakfast" and according to my Irish husband, it's taste like an Irish breakfast he'd had in Ireland. I like the black Pudding and the savory sausages. The place was a good place to watch multiple sports shows, place was wide, and we are surprised that there was a bar in the back too. We like this place. There's more food choices in the menus that we would like to try next time.

Google
Corcoran’s is hands down the hot spot in Old Town right now! My girlfriends and I got to the patio around 7 PM this past Saturday and the place was already packed with great energy—it was a total vibe. They have an awesome selection of beers and drinks, and later we moved to the front bar, which was absolutely packed, but the fun never stopped. We ended up staying nearly the whole night because we were having such a blast! The DJ that night was phenomenal—he played all genres and kept the energy in the room dynamic and nonstop. At one point, the entire floor was literally bouncing from everyone jumping, dancing, and singing Benson Boone at the top of their lungs! The DJ is so talented - thank you for creating that moment for us and keeping the party alive. Even with the crowd, we never had to wait long for drinks—the bartender was fast, friendly, and super personable. Corcoran’s is just one of those places where you can relax, have fun, and be yourself. No egos, just good vibes all around. Already looking forward to our next night out here!

Google
Great pub in old town serving well priced craft beers, full bar and good food. This spot has a beer garden that wraps around the back and side of the building plus a patio space up front. About a block away from the second city and 10 minutes walk from the north st beach. Check out their daily specials including happy hour and weekend brunch.

Google
I love Irish bars! This one was great. We didn't eat here, we only had drinks. Their menu looked good, and the table next to us ordered food and they had waffle fries. They looked amazing. I had a Michelob ultra. They have it in a bottle. Then we had Southern tier Punking. They had fall leaves and orange lights everywhere I loved it. Next time I am having food there. Also our waitress was wonderful we never had a dry drink. She was always refilling our beers.

Yelp
The NOISE makes it almost unbearable. There was a basketball game on at a volume so loud that it was IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A CONVERSATION. Even talking straight into someone's ear was hard to hear. The three of us resorted to texting, even though we were crammed together at a small table. We left as soon as we could, and went somewhere else to linger with drinks. It was just too unpleasant. The food was basic. The service was adequate. Neither were great, nor bad, just basic.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere here! I've been for drinks before, but this was my first time ordering food. I got the chicken Caesar wrap - it was tasty but a little heavy on the dressing! I enjoyed the tomato bisque with it though, but it's $3 extra for the premium side. My dad got the fish and chips - the regular fries are not great, I'd recommend the waffle fries because they are way better! Service was a little slow, but atmosphere is nice though for a casual lunch.

Yelp
Apparently I ordered 3 cans of high noons cans and didn't tip the bartender ( my bad not exactly wealthy or employed atm.) and the bartender confronted me straight up, "so, no tip!" And turned around told all his coworkers "this guy is cut off for the night, he didn't tip". And I turned around and confronted him saying if he was serious and I only ordered 3 cans of high noons and you just handed them to me. And because of that, he told his fellow bouncers to kick me and my friends out. Word for word that's exactly what happened, while I understand it's rude for me not to tip on cans but that sort of over exaggerated reaction is what got me shocked.

Yelp
Can't say anything about the restaurant experience, this review is solely about the food. Ordered 2 corned beef sandwiches to go. The meat tasted good, but it was super fatty and there was not a ton of it on the sandwich itself. I know corned beef is fatty but felt it could have been trimmed a bit.

Yelp
Love the beer garden! Perfect for summer. Service is solid the vibes are great! Fun spot to go with friends. I cant speak for the food yet but the drinks are solid

Yelp
Corcoran's is in a great location, directly across the street from Second City, so it's the obvious choice for dinner before a show. It has a dark, pub feel to it, which works. It's very loud, which is not surprising at a sports bar. I had a grilled chicken sandwich on a wheat roll. The chicken breast had not been pounded evenly, so the sandwich was very lopsided and as soon as I picked it up, everything slid out. Also, the chicken was mostly dry. The menu said it came with "avocado", which to me means freshly sliced avocado, but instead it had a tiny amount of guacamole spread on the bun. Meh. A friend had tomato soup which they rated as "fine". The service was surprisingly fast, which is a real plus when heading for a show.

Yelp
Good vibes and good service! I went here after work on a Saturday and I'm glad I did. I usually don't go out to eat solo but I did this time and I plan on going back soon enough. I ordered a spicy sriracha wrap with waffle fries and an old fashioned - both fabulous. My bartender threw down on the old fashioned and I wanted to keep going but that would've ended up not in the best situation. One thing that other customers kept talking about / bringing up to the staff was the music. Sometimes the music would cutoff and not play for 5-10 minutes then randomly play and then turn off again. I'm sure it was once in a blue moon coincidence but something to note for next time because it seemed like people were there for a vibey good time with music. Thank you Corcoran's - I plan on being back soon! Personal Review: 7.9/10

Yelp
A great place for beer and food. Friendly staff and customers. Jeff the bartender is great. Cheers like environment. Back bar and patio are great for a night time drink. Cannot recommend enough.

Yelp
Great neighborhood Irish pub with a cozy vibe and good food and drinks. There's a cute outdoor patio when the weather is nice. The brisket grilled cheese with tomato bisque was delicious! I also enjoyed the giant pretzel and pear goat cheese salad. Service is always friendly and efficient.

Yelp
We stopped in around midnight on a Friday night to meet up with our niece. I was not expecting the club atmosphere for an Irish pub. Lol They played some good music, it was pretty packed in there. We just ordered some drinks. I ordered the espresso martini that they have on tap. It was good, not great, though. I think it cost $17. It sounded interesting, so I gave it a shot.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a fun spot to stumble into after a day out. Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't take advantage of being in the back patio, but we had a great time in the front bar area. Espresso martini on draft and a great spicy margarita and aperol spritz! I also got some grub - the island ceasar was delicious (I love that it comes with salmon), and the Buffalo Mac and cheese is a nice big portion and tasty as well! Great quality bar food, and bartenders were awesome too. At night, the music was great to dance to as well. Fun atmosphere all around.

Yelp
I was visiting my friend lives nearby. She took me to Corcoran's Grill & Pub. It was my first time try it out. I got the grilled Greek chicken wrap, and my friend got the pub burger. Food portion is big. We couldn't finish our food. Grilled chicken is good, not too dry and grilled well. Fries is OK. Not that special. We had a good experience because the environment is very relaxing. I don't feel rush to leave even we finish our food. On average it's $30 per person. We also got some beer.

Yelp
Great look and feel on a Sunday afternoon! My friends and I stopped by on a whim and were pleased to find $20 champagne bottles with OJ and a variety of Irish menu items. Our server was very nice and helpful. The only issue is how long it too for the food to come out. The breakfast tacos were flavorful, but soggy (likely after waiting too long to serve). Overall, I recommend trying if you're in the area. The vibe and seating makes up for the food experience and the group was really able to enjoy themselves! -AT

Yelp
In Chicago's Old Town, this is about as good as it will get at 1am on a Sunday morning. Good for beers. Clean restroom. A little too loud for me but the waitress was very very reliable friendly and a sweetheart. We were a group of 7 guys and we were able to find seats.

Yelp
Took a half day from work, hoping to get in a round of SUP-ing at North Beach. Thanks to the Air and Water Show, that was quickly downvoted. Was looking for a solid patio with decent beer list and okay food. This is exactly what I got. Patio was incredible. Super cute, lots of seating and dog friendly. Beer menu was decent; Chicago standards. It was hot out, so a bucket of Miller Lites wins the day. Food was okay. Ordered chips and guac. Sounded healthier than cheese curds. 2 giant avocado pits were served in the guac. Guess this is their, "MADE INHOUSE, ASSHOLE" branding? Burgers were also okay. Nothing spectacular but definitely edible. Service was what you would expect for a long time Lincoln Park establishment - you know before it became a ritzy rich people neighborhood. I would for sure come back again, as it met expectations.

Maya B.

Yelp
if I could give it a zero, I would. Tell your bartenders to be more professional and not get butthurt about a tip?? Male bartender grabbed me, a woman, by my COLLAR, because I didn't give a "sufficient" tip? That was embarrassing for them. A WOMAN should NEVER have a man put his hands on me. and a man should NEVER put his hands on a woman.

Yelp
Decided to come here for brunch on St Patty's and wanted to try something new. The place was busy and had a good bar vibe. They didn't have paper menus and the QR code didn't have a drink menu. We ended up getting a snack and going to brunch somewhere else because it was a good vibe to have a drink but not exactly for brunch. The food we ordered was delicious (pretzels and cheese curds) but they didn't bring us napkins, plates or silverware and then didn't come back and check on us until we were ready to go. The Irish coffee I had was delicious but served in a paper cup that ended up leaking.

Yelp
Used to frequent this spot when living in Old Town when all the other places were full. Stopped back in due to the same situation recently and it hasn't changed much in the 5 years. Still full of frat dudes and young girls, average drinks and food. Bathroom right outside the kitchen.... But there is something to be said for consistency! It's great to know they will be open and available with both indoor and outdoor seating and lots of TVs. The indoor is really pretty with the old style booths and beautiful bar so I recommend sitting there. Most of the loud annoying frat dudes tend to go outside anyway. Gin and tonic was good, beer was good, fries were good. They enforced 6 people at a table, wore masks, and had digital menus. Decent spot when you're looking for average!

Tim H.

Yelp
Corcorans is a great bar/restaurant to have in the neighborhood. Great place to get casual drinks with friends and also has good food at a fair price.

Yelp
the best wraps !! truffle waffle fries .... mmmmmmmm oktoberfest is here too !! and a salmon with sautéed watermelon. !

Yelp
What happened to the onion rings? They're off the menu after being there forever . I guess time to expand my horizons and see what else is in the neighborhood

Yelp
I visited Corcoran's Grill & Pub around 9 p.m. on a Monday with three friends. We were just stopping by for drinks before a show at Zanies Comedy Club down the street, which worked perfectly. I would certainly revisit again and recommend anyone in the area stop in for drinks! The atmosphere at Corcoran's was amazing. The interior was beautiful and the outside seating was stunning! My friends and I ordered two Moscow Mules and one Gin and Tonic. The Mules, $14 each, were very tasty, but the Gin and Tonic was much too strong. It almost tasted like it was entirely gin.
google avatar

Gurleen K.

Yelp
A nice bar in the Old Town area with a great outdoor seating set up as well! The staff is friendly and they have some good deals on beer buckets which is nice. It was really nice to sit outside but it was a little loud with the speakers for the TVs which was not ideal. Overall a decent experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Best bar in America. Love it here. Will always be back. Great drinks for a great price. Love Corcoran's

Colten G.

Yelp
This is a decent place. The bar was very loud which made it difficult to talk and hear. Our waiter was kind and fast however the food is over priced and mediocre. If you are into the partying lifestyle with drinks and loud music then you may find this bar to be perfect for you. Unfortunately this bar was not for me.

Lauren V.

Yelp
So good I forgot to take a picture before everything was gone! I would come here everyday if I could. Actually, I do! Favorites include the Guinness wings and a Guinness. 5 star establishment folks.

Mar F.

Yelp
Don't bother if you are over 35 years old on a weekend night. They would not even let us in. The automaton masquerading as a security guard would not let us enter because apparently a group of people aged 60+ looked too threatening. Admittedly, we made the mistake of hopping over the fence to grab a table outside, not knowing we had to stop at the door. We apologized profusely and asked nicely if we could sit at the outside table and the robot at the door could only say "have a nice night" and then turned around and laughed with a younger patron, mocking us. We have lived in this neighborhood for decades and we appreciate the added security but really? Hire people with brains, not just brawn. We will not return and i don't think they will care.

Yelp
Love Love Love this super cool pub! Great atmosphere for a night out or dinner for two! Very friendly staff! Our server had great recommendations.... we were just there for a quick snack and drink, but I will DEFINITELY go back. The Brisket Nachos were literally out of this world delicious... seriously they were, with fat slices of brisket, cheese, chips and jalapeños!! Blue Moons to accompany the nachos. Very nice place... so glad we spied it and tried it! ;)

Sam L.

Yelp
I do not recommend going here, there are plenty of better options in Old Town. My friend and I went here for a few beers on a Saturday. I opened my tab with my card but told the server I would be paying in cash. After staying there for about an hour, we asked to close the tab. My credit card was returned, given a receipt, and I paid and tipped in cash. Corcoran's proceeded to charge my card over the next few days, even though I paid in cash. I returned to Corcoran's to resolve the issue, but the employees I dealt with were rude and told me they would talk to my server and only refund if he corroborated my story. I was never contacted again, they completely blew me off. Do NOT trust this establishment. They will double charge you and pocket your cash. I am astounded by the blatant lack of customer service and care expressed by all the employees I dealt with.
google avatar

Mia L.

Yelp
Beyond mediocre food that's overpriced. $18 for the pear chicken salad that had 3 slices of pear, maybe 4 decent chunks of chicken and a very unappetizing creamy raspberry dressing. Dining companion's melt was lackluster with so-so waffle fries. Maybe just come for the drinks...but the food is too expensive and tasteless for what you get. Service is fine.
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
Me and my sand volleyball team have come here a couple times for food and drinks after our weekday games. Each time, the service was horrendous. Waiting 15-20 mins before the wait staff comes over to take our drink order. Food is also extremely sub-par. Never had anything that blows me away. Won't be returning.
google avatar

Courtney B.

Yelp
My favorite local bar! Always a good time and large menu with decent food and drinks. Never a problem getting in and perfect for meeting friends or game day. I honestly go here every week and never get tired of it!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Brunch at Corcoran's is pretty good, and they have a $20 champagne special which is great! The place itself is much larger than it looks on the outside. They've got a patio space in the back and another bar area all the way back, so there's plenty of seating and spots to watch sports games, etc. The service hasn't been the best during our visits, though. It feels like the bartender and servers would rather chit chat amongst themselves than service customers. But I'm still rating this spot 4 stars for atmosphere and delicious food!
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
Went here last night and had espresso martinis that were sooo unexpectedly good. Our server was a really nice guy and the energy of this bar is cool. I like the divey feel and the patio in the back is a good spot to sit with friends and have a drink.
google avatar

Carly S.

Yelp
Fun little spot in Old Town! It was still really busy on a Friday night, which was a little surprising considering how cold it was and how many other places are in that area. We were seated pretty quickly, and the waitress took our drink orders. We got nachos to eat -- I have to say, they were pretty subpar. I definitely wouldn't recommend them. I'm sure the other bar food is great; that's what I'll be trying next time. Overall, it's a fun spot for drinks and I'm sure I'll be back!
google avatar

Ellen C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times more out of convenience than love of their food or beer selection. Their menu selection is pretty pricey for the quality of their food. It's a typical Irish bar you'd find in any big city - dimly lit, dark wood everywhere, booth seating. And if you're coming for just beer, it's a good choice to meet up with friends. But the food... not as good. The shepherd's pie ($20ish) has way too much rosemary and was served swimming in grease, to the point where I got nauseous. But it is a HUGE portion, weighed at least a couple pounds. I've also had the turkey burger and grilled chicken sandwich there, both of which were okay, typical bar food. Fries or chips were probably the best part of those dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
First time visiting Corcoran's for lunch. I tried their southwestern bbq chicken salad, and their onion rings. I also tried their the chicken wrap. The southwestern salad , had beans, corn, Avocado, and a light dressing. The onion rings were great, just a bit greasy for my taste. The onion rings don't come with any dipping sauce,, so make sure you ask for some. The southwest salad was a good, but needed more chicken. The wrap was great, nice and moist, and the tortilla was nice and soft. However they can use more help,, since they only had one waiter, serving and taking orders.

Yelp
Drinks weren't made that great appetizers were ok nog the greatest not sure if I would come back

Yelp
Nice neighborhood spot on Wells. It's got lots of out door seating options that fills up quickly when weather is nice. You can get beer, wine and cocktails. Come for the ambience and drinks. Food is ok. Had smoked brisket nachos - the meat tasted more boiled than smoked. I'd recommend trying something different. Will have to try burgers next time.

Carol K.

Yelp
This feels like an amazing neighborhood bar with terrific food, great service, very lively atmosphere. Our first time here and we will be back no doubt. We live downtown Chicago and this place is more than worth the walk here!
google avatar

Connor B.

Yelp
If you're looking for your casual local pub, this is definitely the place to go. I went here for lunch and they had a great deal which was $11 for a wrap and sides. It gives you that a homey bar feel where you can just kind of hang out and have some beers and relax. Very excited that it's close to my apartment!

Yelp
Some of the most surprisingly fire hummus I have ever had. Charming little spot and a great place to have a conversation and drinks.

Yelp
I've gone to Corcoran's a few times over the past six years, but tonight's experience was enough to make me never want to go back. A few of my complaints: - Despite making reservations over a week ago, they seated us at a gross side-table that was covered with some unknown stickiness... that we felt every time we touched the table over the next two hours. - No water was offered to us with our $50.00+ meal, so I requested some, and was told that, "Sorry, the tap is broken so it has to be bottled water... but those will be a dollar for each one." This wasn't the waitresses fault - she said it was decision from the management - but such a cheap move was pretty baffling to me. - We ordered a Jameson Irish Coffee, which the menu said would be topped, and I quote, with "freshly whipped cream." This was true if by freshly whipped cream they meant generic-brand Reddi-Wip. - I had their fish and chips a couple years back and it was exactly what you'd hope: two flaky pieces of cod, perfectly fried and delicious. I don't know if management has changed or cheapened or what, but tonight's was an embarrassment: one thick circle of cheap, chewy fish... hard to believe it was cod at all. I don't post negative reviews often (as in like twice in my life), but this is for sure one of them: I won't be back.

Yelp
Went to Corcoran's Pub while visiting the zoo for zoo lights (short walk). Everything was great - service, food and the place looked very festive. We had a reservation for 10 and it all worked out well.

Madison E.

Yelp
Balding bartender looked at & ignored us and would not give my friend and I water? I asked the guy next to us to please ask bartender for 2 waters for my friend and I, the bartender looked at us then told the guy no and went on to ignore us. I have never experienced service this rude, and I just moved here from Las Vegas. Never coming back. There's too many bars in Chicago for bartenders to be acting so horribly. If you're so miserable then quit instead of projecting onto others. Get a grip.
google avatar

Emmy D.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for a few years. It's a great place for a couple casual drinks and it has pretty decent bar food if your craving a bite to eat. Their fried pickles are some of the best in the city, I get them almost every time I'm there. The have outdoor seating in the front, alley, and the back (they even have heaters when it's colder in the fall). You can even rent out the place in the back, but if your looking for a fancy dinner this isn't the place. Also don't get the truffle fries they throw a slab of cheese on there. Love this place and it's vibe especially in the summer.

Ayanna R.

Yelp
This bar is definitely racist. I came here with friends early in the night and got a table. A few drinks in we started dancing and I bumped my friends glass on the table which broke. We cleaned it up immediately. Shortly after Security came over and told us that we had to leave. I asked why and he said "because the owner said you broke a glass". I'm assuming that they thought I was drunk which I wasn't. It was just a weird thing to say/get kicked out for. But also even if I was drunk why would the whole group of 7 people get kicked out?!! Also people make mistakes and sometimes will break a glass. I'm assuming they just wanted this specific group out. Fireplace Inn or Woodies down the street is a much better option!

Yelp
Very very very loud. Ordered room temperature soup, asked for it to be reheated, never saw it again. Measly portions of fries.
