Coria Estates just had its grand opening a week ago. Unfortunately, I missed it. But, since it was my friend's birthday today, I decided this would be a great time to check Salem's newest winery out. I'm glad I did.
It's a little off the beaten path. My cell phone GPS even messed up and took me to one of their neighbor's houses. How embarrassing! Thanks to her directions, though, we found the winery.
The tasting room is small, but nicely done. There's a covered fire pit right out the door and tables to sit outside when the weather is nice.
All the wine is estate grown. At the moment they have only 2013 vintages: a Pinot Noir, a Rose of Pinot Noir, and a Pinot Gris. All their wines were light, with a nice finish. I personally like a bolder red, like a syrah, but the Pinot Gris was especially good. They are looking into some bolder grapes, like grenache (I think), and the old standby, chardonnay, for the future.
The vintner, Rory, and her husband, Brandon, were super cool, fun, and knowledgeable. I really like this place. Great atmosphere. I felt comfortable the instant I arrived. Yes, it can be hard to find. But lots of times it's the hidden gems that are the most worthwhile.
