Much more is here than the humble facade would suggest. There are many gorgeous mosaics, tombstones, artifacts and jewelry from the Roman era when Corinium (Cirencester) was second only to London in size.
There were also exhibits about earlier settlements and subsequent Anglo-Saxon and revolutionary era events.
Very child friendly. Helpful knowledgable staff. Small shop, a cafe and clean bathrooms.
For us - as foreign tourists, I think think this museum really gives you a feel for the great scope of history in these isles. Cirencester is not a terribly large town, yet it has history recorded continuing back 2,000+ years well reflected here.
Only knocked off a star for some broken interactive exhibits - really wish I could give 4.5 stars. For what it sets out to do this is a successful effort.
