"A health center serving Detroit’s LGBTQ community that became a beneficiary of donations after the incident at the bakery: a Ferndale fundraiser to make “We are not Militant” lawn signs and accept contributions for the Corktown Health Center raised more than $1,700 via GoFundMe." - Brenna Houck

Really not a good clinic. Most of the receptionist here is often new, so they have a high turn over rate. I would assume this has to do with the fact that they don’t manage their staff correctly or their in take process isn’t good. I’ve had multiple issues with them and they’ve been the same clinic I’ve been going to for over 2 years. Doctors refusing to update my diagnosis status despite my insurance letting me do so. Me having blood drawn and all of it going missing at some point in their care, forcing me to have my blood drawn again, which still unsettles me to this day. Misgendering me in their portal and refusing to change it until a year later. The staff also often has unwelcoming cold attitudes at front desk. Calling them sometimes is a complete hit or miss depending on who answers, I’ve had someone hang up on me multiple times or just transfer me automatically before I even began talking. I only continue to go because it’s close, but if you have better options I would say go there. Some of the staff here is okay, and it’s a ‘welcoming queer’ space (whatever that means at this point) but they don’t seem to care a lot about their patients. Not sure what issue they’re having behind the scenes but it’s affecting their ability to properly do their jobs and help their patients. I almost would rather risk being discriminated elsewhere just to get better care.

I had avoided dental care for years until I met Dr. Bloxson at a community event. Her calming presence and non-judgmental approach eased my fears. Since starting care with the dental clinic, I have experienced cleanings, fillings, and wisdom teeth extractions all without pain. With each visit I grow more impressed. This is a talented team of people that I trust with my care. Thank you to Anjelica, Geraldine and Dr. Bloxson! Your clinic has helped me experience dental care differently.

First time I've seen a dentist in 3 years, and I must say I am amazed at how patient and thorough Miss Gerri, the dental hygienist, was with my care. And just wow - my teeth feel amazing and even whiter just after one cleaning! She educated me on some new tools available for cleaning teeth between visits (yes, it's not just about dental floss anymore) so I'm excited to have new options. Dr. Bloxson did a very thorough exam (and yes she found a cavity but that's my fault for waiting so many years to see a dentist). Looking forward to my next visit!

I became a patient at Corktown Health recently and can’t recommend it enough. Their sliding scale model makes care accessible for folks based on their income regardless of insurance status or coverage, and every interaction with their staff has been genuinely amazing and so helpful—from the providers to the overall approach and how they’ve listened and received me. Corktown Health is a true community health center, and I couldn’t be happier to make it my home for primary care.

My wife and I have been looking to find a local GP for health check ups and were glad to find Corktown Health. Setting up a first and follow up appointment was a breeze. The entire staff made me feel welcomed and seen. There was some nerves going in but my intake nurse, Angel, got rid of those by being an Angel. The compassionate ekg nurse and the calming gentleman that drew my blood made both procedures painless. Doctor Frank listened to my worries, was thorough, honest and gave some great next steps. Very thankful to have found Corktown Health and will definitely be back.

I’ve been going here for a few years and I can honestly say every time I’ve had an incredibly pleasant experience. Today my MA, Angel, was an angel; pleasant, caring, humorous, and efficient. Dr Mark is always pleasant, easy to talk to and confide in. I never wait long at all, it’s always very clean here, and my interactions with every staff member over the years has been a very positive experience. I really get the sense they look out for me here.

Dr. Alan Frank and the current dental hygienist are probably the only redeeming factors here. Outside of them, my experience has been disappointing. I’ve had several issues I stayed quiet about because I’ve been conditioned to accept poor treatment with a smile… even left good reviews and referred people before. But honesty matters, so here it is. The case management team is a mess… unprofessional, inconsistent, and careless. They’ve gone on full vacations during my process without telling me, fallen asleep during my intake, forgotten to submit paperwork, and made me chase them like I’m their supervisor. One even said, “Um, what is you even talkin’ about?” when I called to ask a simple question. When I asked for a manager, I got bounced to the front desk and told to “call back after lunch.” I’ve had a therapist talk to me like a child, another sigh and yawn through sessions, and I’ve been left sitting in a room for over an hour before being forgotten completely. Appointments have been scheduled wrong and canceled on arrival. Some staff are kind, but too many are rude, disorganized, or seem totally untrained. I used to make the trip because I believed in their care. Now I’m looking for a new clinic and dental office. I’m patient, I’m respectful, and I never deserved to be treated like this.
