Corner Cafe Review - Broadway - Newport - The Infatuation

"You’ll know you’ve found the Corner Cafe by the crowd milling about on the sidewalk from 7am until around two. In addition to the influx of tourists, this is where you’ll find locals meeting with friends for a weekday brunch over fresh-squeezed BYOB mimosas, chatting at the counter about a recent article in Newport This Week, or fueling visiting relatives for the 3.5-mile cliff walk. Everything here is good, like ovos acores, a Portuguese twist on eggs benedict, blue corn breakfast tacos, or any of their sandwiches or wraps. They don’t take reservations, so if you pass by and don’t see a line, take it as a sign to get some brunch. It’s also a good, easier-to-get-into dinner option Thursday through Sunday, when they serve the entire daytime menu, plus deeply comforting dinner specials and some excellent pizza. photo credit: Laura Michaud" - Danielle Rose

Corner Cafe Bakery Review - Chinatown - Boston - The Infatuation

"Just in case you’re wondering, Corner Bakery Cafe is in fact located at the corner of two streets in Chinatown. Their bread and buns are made at an off-site location (which, interestingly, also supplies Great Taste Bakery and 101 Bakery), though the cakes do seem to be made on-premise. We recommend ordering a cake or three, since they come in both single serving and larger sizes." - Joel Ang

Corner Cafe Review - North End - Boston - The Infatuation

"The Corner Cafe is a dive, but it’s the best kind of dive: one that’s filled with Keno machines, friendly bartenders, and lots of regulars. Since it’s one of the only full bars in the neighborhood, you probably are one of those regulars if you live here." - Dan Secatore

Google
First time here. We started with the Tijuana egg roll. Excellent. For lunch we had the shrimp & grits and a roast beef sub. Both excellent. Service was excellent too. Dinner entree and pastas look great too. Will need to come back sometime after 5 pm to try them

Google
Everything was delicious! The bread sticks were decadent.... lots of families and older couples...clearly a local community hangout. Understandably convenient , friendly and delicious.

Google
Excellent food, and a very clean environment, but the real standout is the service. They took our random group of 11 in stride, had space for us, had no problems with our several kids, and got every bit of the orders right. The highest compliments to Jordan on absolutely outstanding service.

Alan Hottman

Google
Food had good flavor. Shrimp and grits was good. Tenderloin medallions were a bit over done though. Pork chop was very juicy and the peach chutney was tasty. Good corn and cauliflower.

Google
This was my first time here as an adult and will definitely be a new regular! The food was amazing! Super flavorful and unique flavors! If you haven’t been here yet, be sure to check it out! 🤤🥰

Google
Went with a group of friends. After waiting to be seated for 5 minutes we were placed in a room by ourselves a group of 4. Took 15 minutes for us to be acknowledged and get waters. We waited a bit longer and ended up walking out. To make matters even more interesting, there were plenty of empty tables for us to sit at in the main dining room.

Google
The food and service are wonderful. The prices are very reasonable. We have been going there for years and have never been disappointed.

Google
My wife and i stopped by, and I got the 9-inch nuclear sub with chips. Bring your appetite, you'll want to eat the whole thing, and it is delicious. She got the blackened chicken sandwich with chips, which is also delicious; it comes with a pepper jelly that is out of this world. They should package this stuff. Doug was our server, and he was very attentive to our needs.

Yelp
Traveling south we stopped for gasoline and noticed this establishment, it was extremely busy! So we went in and the food was great. Since we were kinda in a hurry we ate lite. Three of us had the French toast with pork links. The French toast was great and the sausage was tasty. The other two guests had biscuits and gravy along with home fries. Both plates were empty so I'm assuming they liked their food as well. Service was casual, we were greeted and we placed our drink orders and meal orders immediately. The service was good, our server was polite and efficient. The ambiance was very casual as was the dress code. Everyone in the restaurant seemed happy the staff was friendly and the food was good. I'd definitely recommend the Corner Cafe

Yelp
Disappointing...We were excited to meet friends since we live out of town and don't have a chance to sample restaurants in the Louisville area very often. The waitress, Jordan, seemed competent in beginning, providing my Wifes requested ice filled glass of ice water. Things turned negative quickly, slow food preparation, delivery to table was slow, food temperature was warm, not hot. Mediocre service and quality at best. Then came the bill, with a 20% gratuity you would think that was generous. After later reviewing the bill we discovered an addional $8.00 tacked on for what ? Wife called Randy, the Manager, who said he would call her back. Didn't happen, now 3 days later, after calling twice, with no call back. Hey Randy, where is your Integrity and Professionalism ? Good Luck !!! We won't be back, EVER.

Yelp
Red Hot Chicken!? Red Hot Chicken would be better described as a mediocre, beer, pub buffalo chicken wings. Today the chicken was chewy and overcooked. Buffalo sauce would've been more mirrored to a place where they wear Tight shorts and tight shirts. Overall fabulous experience. Wonderful menu, great staff and the crabcakes are to fight for. Biggest suggestion I could make would be that the restaurant provide a lunch menu so as not to confuse the guest with items that were not able to be purchased until after 5 PM. When I return, it will definitely be after 5 PM and I'm looking forward to trying the lamb and the spaghetti.

Yelp
We love this neighborhood restaurant. A special gem. Food is always great and the draft beers come out ice cold.

Yelp
Corner cafe feels like a place that was once a high end treat. No longer has that status. It's now well worn , tired and mediocre. We meet some friends for dinner last Saturday night. One of the people used to go as a child and wanted to relive that time. We arrived about 7pm. Had a short wait at the well provisioned bar. Two glasses of Riesling and a Old Forrester 80 old fashioned $28.? Okay so they added sugar packets into my old fashioned, guess that's okay. Got to looking around we noticed we are by far the youngest patrons in the place ( we are mid 50's). That matches the dated decor. Food was okay. Wife had shrimp and grits. Really disappointed. I had chicken parmigiana. Mildly disappointed, sauce was okay, fried chicken with melted cheese is good. Don't think we will need to go back.

Joe R.

Yelp
The luncheon meals for my wife and I were excellent. I had the nuclear sub and my wife had the chicken club. The quality and quantity exceeded our expectations. Also the prices were reasonable given our financial times. Service was also outstanding. We liked the way they anticipated our needs. We would recommend Corner Cafe to anyone.

Yelp
Amazing and quick the ranch dressing is delicious too. I did carry out but the store was really clean.

Yelp
Nice place, service was good but steak was way over salted. Could not taste the steak itself. Everything else was wonderful.

Yelp
LOVE this out of the way, unexpectedly awesome food find. I was looking for a place that could handle a larger group for a wedding rehearsal dinner and an online chat group recommended I check out this location. I'm so glad they did. Everything people have stated in other reviews is accurate. From the outside you wouldn't expect to find such fabulous food. There appear to be many local regulars who come in early (5:30). The menu is varied and the daily specials are wonderful additions. These include appetizers, soups and entrees. I've since been here several times and I've had nothing I wouldn't purchase again. Every time I visit I try a new soup and have never been disappointed. The shrimp bisque is delicious. The burgers and subs are phenomenal, but the side of regular bagged chips is disappointing and could be elevated by something different and unique. Over the course of the last year, I've seen many of the same servers who bust their butts to keep up. They are warm, friendly and patient. They work wonderfully as a team with others assisting flawlessly. This is rare during this time of staffing shortages and less than stellar quality candidates for hire. I commend management and the workers. Even with a full house, they managed to keep up. My only suggestion is a friendlier more welcoming hostess as my most current visit had a new face. She was younger than the others and seemed more intent on table setting than greeting and welcoming the customer. The dining room is tight and small, but I didn't feel like people were on top of me and it never became so noisy that I couldn't hear my partner. There is a separate banquet room and two larger side serving areas. On several occasions I've seen large parties on both sides. This restaurant would definitely excel in a more visible location with a prettier outside and updated inside, but that would likely change what makes it special. To the owner, keep up the good work and thank you for a lovely dining experience. I love the menu, specials and particularly your soups. Great job.

Yelp
Food was average as was the service. Nothing spectator to note. We had the crab cake appetizer, walleye special, scallop and shrimp pasta, and fillet medallions. If we return, it would be to give a sandwich a try.

Lilly C.

Yelp
Consistently great food! Always our go to carry out spot. Highly recommend their salads and pastas. Service is always great too!

Yelp
Hard to get in if you have more than 10 guest, call two or three weeks ahead. Food good over priced, paying for the atmosphere.

Yelp
The Corner Cafe is a lovely family owned & operated restaurant tucked into a strip mall in Lyndon. Don't let the location fool you. Walking inside you are met with quite a pleasant surprise! The ambiance is so inviting with beautiful artwork displayed on the walls; imagine the delight in finding it is for sale! I have tried many items on the menu over the years and I have never been disappointed! The food is wonderful and delicious!! It is carefully prepared and the servers are gracious and welcoming. You will not regret having lunch or dinner at this unique restaurant!

Yelp
We've been to the Corner Cafe many times most recently 2 nights ago with 3 of our grandchildren. As usual both the food and the service were very good. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. Disregard the outside appearance. Just proves you can't judge a book by its cover.
google avatar

Yelp
The food we ordered was very, very good. The menu selection is great. As vegetarians, we had no trouble finding some of our favorites. The service was awesome. We were a large group (about 30 people) and our server was perfect. The ambiance was deceptively wonderful. From the outside, just another door in a strip mall. Walking inside was a delight. Open, airy, and many options from individual dining to conference rooms to large rooms such as ours.

Yelp
It's been at least a month since we've tried someplace new. We met up with some friends who were in town for a visit for dinner tonight and I was in charge of picking a restaurant. After investigating, Corner Cafe met the stated requirements of being quiet enough we could hear each other and having a decent selection of vegetarian food. We started with appetizers and we ordered the Tijuana Eggrolls. Most of us enjoyed them but one member of our party tasted peppers in them. They weren't mentioned on the menu and she's allergic. I had the chicken club, potato salad and an AmarettoSour. It was all pretty good but I didn't taste any condiments on the sandwich so I had to ask for some. My husband had a Cesar Salad with shrimp and it was an incredibly plain salad for the price. Our friends split the spinach ravioli special and really enjoyed it. The other couple had a Mediterranean wrap and a pork chop sandwich. They were pretty satisfied with them. I'm not sure our food lived up to the hype but everything was overall, pretty decent. I forgot to take pictures, we were too busy socializing.

Vanessa K.

Yelp
arrived 8:33 after driving 30 mins to get there and even thought website & google said open til 9 refused to seat and when said site said open til 9 and we'd drive 30 mins they said they didn't care, didn't have access and quote unquote manager we asked to speak to said "go for it" when we said we would leave a review about hours being incorrect

John G.

Yelp
This is at the top of my restaurant list for places near my westport road home. It is a jewel hidden in a small shopping center that does not appear to house such a find as corner cafe. By the way, I heard it is called "corner cafe" because it was originally on a corner in Lyndon but it moved long ago. I have been a patron for many years and find the food and atmosphere to be head and shoulders above most restaurants in the area. I normally get their large spaghetti and meatballs and end up taking enough home with me for two more meals. The service has always been excellent and I would call the prices midrange but well worth the money when you consider the ambiance.
google avatar

Karen F.

Yelp
Food was delicious. We did carry out. My husband had a hamburger cooked perfect. I did the spaghetti & homemade meatballs & sauce. I almost forgot I had a desert that was so good. The chocolate bomb. Yum!! Portions were very generous worth every bite. While waiting I talked with the very friendly bartender. I did not feel rushed. I will be back soon!

Yelp
I have lived near Corner Cafe for about two years and just recently ventured in for takeout. I had been hearing that they had one of the best grilled chicken sandwiches in the city so I had to try it. I called in a carryout order on a Friday night. When I arrived to pick it up, I could see that it was ready and sitting on a table but I hadn't paid yet and it took a long time to get the attention of an employee to pay. The crowd seemed to be full of regulars who knew the bartenders and servers well. They were really busy and the restaurant felt really crowded, so I don't think I would feel comfortable eating in until the pandemic is over. I also saw a couple customers get up from their tables without masks on, so that was disappointing. After I was able to pay, I checked my order when I got to my car and discovered I was missing one of my sides, so I went back inside, and they remedied it pretty quickly. I got the blackened chicken sandwich and everything I had heard was correct. It was one of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had and I will be back for this sandwich. The jalapeno jelly on it is incredible. My husband got the Italian and also enjoyed his sandwich. We did wish there were more hot side options. The pasta salad I got with my sandwich was just okay and the chips that came with the sandwiches were just bags of chips, not homemade chips. My takeout experience wasn't exactly the best, but the chicken sandwich elevates this review to four stars. I hope to update after I have an post-COVID dine-in experience.

Bruce H.

Yelp
I haven't been to Corner Cafe in at least five years and it was a very popular Friday night spot tonight, even on the early side. We were seated promptly and order was taken. Wait staff were all busy with multiple tables so it took a bit for waters and second set of tableware to arrive. Food was served fairly quick considering how many tables were seated. Veal piccata was super generous portion, delicious, and very fairly priced in this market.

Yelp
Don't judge this restaurant based on the looks from the outside and the fact that's in a dinky strip plaza. This restaurant has a gorgeous interior with nice jumbo liquor bottle decorations. I would recommend it for families, for dates, for any reason because the food is very good and it is a very nice looking place. My wife took me for lunch on my birthday and they were nice enough to make chicken parmesan which was only on the dinner menu even though it was only about noon. I really appreciated that because that's what I wanted to eat. Most of the things on the menu are American, some of which being Italian American. They have sandwiches, pizza, chicken and other seafood dishes, etc. I think the server mentioned that the people are trained chefs.
google avatar

Jeremy J.

Yelp
We usually go in here for my stepmom's birthday is one of her favorite places to go. I go in there and order a good sandwich type thing or some kind of pasta dish and it's always really good. Atmosphere is casual but classy on the inside it's nice and definitely worth checking out and I would go back again

Yelp
Corner Cafe has been a family staple for years. I remember Christmas gatherings after we had tired of cooking for several days and wanted to grab a bite out with the whole crew. The private party room in the back turned out to be the perfect spot for us all to get together. My most recent visit was with all the girls -- grandma, sister-in-law, mom, niece -- when we wanted to have dinner somewhere with just us to catch up and celebrate. We knew the American cuisine would appeal to everybody, and the quiet ambiance would allow for visiting. I got the Cobb Salad, and was not disappointed -- it hit all the right notes with crunch, flavor, and freshness. Come dessert time, we got a carrot cake on the house since we were there partly for a birthday as well. It is probably small enough that one person could (uncomfortably) finish the whole thing, but we shared it 4 ways, which provided a nice bite for all of us by the end of the meal. It was drizzled with caramel and chocolate, which we never would have thought of, but added a nice touch. For your next get together when you want tried-and-true food in a relaxed atmosphere, check out the Corner Cafe for a solid dining experience.

Yelp
Corner Cafe has been a staple of the Lyndon and Louisville communities for several decades. The service is fantastic, my family and I had a great experience Saturday night. I ordered the tenderloin medallions. My food was phenomenal. The meat was made to order and very juicy. I will definitely order it again!
google avatar

Lora C.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, it had been a while since enjoying a sit down meal at the Corner Café, but last night was delightful! Our waiter Doug was so attentive and made the experience that much better. The menu is enormous - appetizers, salads, soups, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, desserts and more. I've tried a lot of things, but the Baby field greens salad and the Greek pasta are my reliable favorites - penne pasta, shrimp, feta, tomatoes, & artichoke hearts with some kind of buttery vinaigrette. The crazy thing is that it's even more tasty the next day, so I always order the "dinner" size instead of the "petite" order so I can enjoy it for a few days after it sits and marinates. Doug was the kind of awesome server who not only brought us all containers to go, but proceeded to load leftovers into the containers for each of us table side. The restaurant observes good COVID practices & the rest room was clean. Beware, the colorful chocolate covered mints as you exit the restaurant will be another thing that brings you back, so grab some extras to eat with your leftovers!

Yelp
Apparently I had the completely wrong impression about Corner Cafe. This place just right next door to where I live, and in a run-down little shopping center. From the outside, I always thought it was a sandwich shop or something...but I was wayyy wrong on that! When some family members requested to go here, they raved about this place and how many times they've been. So I was willing to give it a chance also. And I did really enjoy it! It's a nice, cozy little spot for dinner, with all kinds of things on their menu. Our server was really sweet and was always there when we needed her. Their wine is also another big plus! Love Corner Cafe! Will definitely be making another visit soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Average Joe is the best way to describe this place. The service is fast. And they were friendly. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. For a quick bite when you're in a hurry or on the way home from work, it could be an ok choice. But I'm not itching to schedule a return visit. They average 4 stars, so perhaps I ordered the wrong items to get to four stars. The Tijuana Egg Rolls weren't any better than a great frozen department grocery store egg roll. But they weren't terrible. And the sausage sandwich was....well, it's hard to find the words.....average. Their kindness and speed probably gets them up to 3.25 stars, but we're hear to eat. And the food was too average to make that a 4.

Michaels B.

Yelp
Terrific service and food. Lots of choices. This place has been here a long time and it is obviously because the y are excellent. Reasonable prices and large quantities of great food.
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
Ok, so don't let the name fool you. This place was much more of a private "date night" type setting than the name would suggest. I did really enjoy my meal, a pork tenderloin lion with three sides. The wait staff could have been a little more attentive for the meal prices but overall no real complaints. Nice place, would definitely make a nice date night spot.
google avatar

Roger R.

Yelp
I've been going to Corner Cafe for years mainly for their generous portions of Chicken Penne. I had no idea that they were hiding one of the absolute best burgers in Louisville. If you're looking for fluff you're not going to find it. What a burger is cooked on matters and they grill theirs. Diagonal grill marks on the patty because it was cooked over flame. LTO, a toasted bun, and your choice of cheese make it all come together with this one here. Certified . Now, I know my favorite thing on the menu.

H M.

Yelp
Great food and our server Doug was very nice and prompt. Delicious potato salad and the pork chop sandwich was yummy.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
Great lunch spot! My family often comes here for large get-togethers! They have tons of soups, salads, and sandwiches m. Their burgers are great, and I love their salmon filet. Their filet medallions and pasta are always great options too. Service is always friendly and fast. Great local eatery.
google avatar

Lee D.

Yelp
Really good food! Had the gyro and honestly it tasted better than ones I've had at a actual gyro restaurant! Also had a cup of lobster bisque and it was quite tasty!!

Lani C.

Yelp
A family friend has always talked about how he eats here often. I had always wanted to check it out. One day I was looking for a new place to get pizza and saw reviews for Corner Cafe. Well, we were definitely NOT disappointed! The crust is crispy not soggy. The sauce is tasty, not too sweet or salty. The cheese is great quality! The toppings were pepperoni and sausage and they were perfect! We have since been back since our first visit and it has always been delicious and the same consistency. My only complaint is their fountain drinks are hit or miss (-1 star), but they always give you water so at least there's that! And basket of bread too! Definitely recommend this hidden gem!
google avatar

Hadleigh F.

Yelp
Love coming here! I can't help but get the Cajun Seafood Alfredo every time, it's mine and my dads favorite. The petite portion is plenty I hardly finish all of it and still have some to bring home. Go for the large portion though (only a couple dollars more) if you want a good amount of left overs! Also, the Caesar salad is amazing and comes with entrees. Ask for extra dressing because you will love it that much- I dip the dinner rolls in it.
google avatar

Zain K.

Yelp
CC doesn't look like much on the outside, but this belies the fact that the ambiance inside is actually quite warm and comfortable. The menu is suprisingly varied, perhaps a bit too much so, ranging from fairly inelegant sandwiches to decent pizzas and pastas to nicely plated $20-30 dinner entrees. As an entree I recommend the Irish pork tenderloin (~$22). It's a generous and tender (yet lean) cut of pork, served with sides of stewed purple cabbage, green beans, and scalloped (-ish) potatoes. Balanced, colorful, very flavorful, and not too heavy.
google avatar

Eli T.

Yelp
My family has been going to "The Corner" for probably 25 years... Yes, the menu hasn't changed in about as long. Yes, the decor is dated. Yes, it's a solid restaurant that has stood the test of time. Some folks love the comfort of going back to a spot and being able to order their "usual" and having the quality be exactly what they expected. I love this spot, and whenever I'm in town, I try to go.

Paula H.

Yelp
The Corner Cafe has the BEST pork chop I have ever eaten! Love the atmosphere and the service is second to none. Kristen our server was wonderful and very attentive! We will be back. YOU need to visit them and check out their menu!
google avatar

Judith J.

Yelp
Really considered a 5 star ranking but its not there yet. Food was near excellent. Our party went with their Italian choices. Mine was over the top amazing... penne with shrimp and artichokes, but friends dishes ( we love to share) were ordinary.... hence the 4 stars. Atmosphere is cozy and casual.
google avatar

Cherie H.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place! Staff is always nice and helpful and we are always visited by the owner. Their most surprising "hidden gem" on the entire menu is a vegetarian submarine (however eat it as it comes, it's best that way). There are many other great items on the menu that everyone will be able to find something to their liking and no one will go home hungry!
google avatar

Yelp
Large Group Event. Corner Cafe was the site for our son and DIL's rehearsal dinner. There were several menu options available to choose from for guest meals, which made for quick buffet style service. We confirmed a count of 34 people for our event and the buffet would have easily fed several more people, and leftovers were abundant. Everything was handled professionally from the planning to the service to the final bill. Robert was very easy to work with. There were no surprises with the bill, which was calculated exactly as I was told up front. I highly recommend Corner Cafe for large groups.
google avatar

Meg S.

Yelp
Took Betty out for her 84th birthday. This is her favorite place and she had eaten here this past weekend already for her birthday with family. She likes it because it is quiet although tonight it wasn't as a group of former high school girl classmates were eating in private room.( Her daughter in law is part of this group but wasn't with them tonight. )Betty enjoyed her roast beef sandwich but it didn't seem to have the carmelized onions she requested. She also has a cold pasta salad. She didn't finish either. I had the Greek shrimp and artichoke pasta which was delicious and the side salad. Bleu cheese dressing tasted homemade to me. Loved it. My husband had the seafood pasta and salad and thought both were great. Betty ordered the dreamcicle cake as her free birthday dessert. We enjoyed sharing it.
google avatar

Donna B.

Yelp
The food was awesome, but the servers were very slow. The atmosphere was very nice, with the white linen tablecloths.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Best meal I had while visiting Louisville! The owner was so friendly and welcomed us with samples of his homemade soup. Try the Veal - you won't be disappointed!

Victor P.

Yelp
let me say this is the first time I posted a negative back of the restaurant but I thought it had to be done. Totally disappointed. When they advertise osso buco with pappardelle I didn't expect it to be Creamette "Egg Noodles". Service was ok but I specifically asked for the entry door. Made by several 2-seat tables Available during the 1.5 dinner reservation. They've Llosa me as a customer and will advise others not to dine there as well.
google avatar

Martha W.

Yelp
I have loved this place for 15 years. The food is consistently good. The regular sub is my favorite .
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
The corner cafe is an unusual place. There are regulars who've been coming to this place for decades. Some people (like me) pop in here for lunch meetings from time to time. But I think most would agree to the statement; "ehh, ya know, it's pretty good". I don't think there is anything particularly special about the place. I think it wears the cloak of a restaurant far fancier than it is. It looks dated on the inside. And the seating is just a little too tight. But overall the food is great. The people are friendly. The owner seems welcoming and gregarious. Overall, I've always had good experiences. And I've enjoyed every meal I've tried. I think they could slim down their menu and update some of the decor. But it's not a bad place. I wouldn't call it fancy, but I wouldn't call it casual either.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Wife and friends went to the Corner Cafe. Service was good and the food was excellent. Just a friendly reminder, we went on Friday evening. They don't take reservations unless you have 8 or more in the party we got there about 6:15 and got a table. It was pretty busy.
