The 16 Best Restaurants In Newport, Rhode Island - Newport - The Infatuation

"You’ll know you’ve found the Corner Cafe by the crowd milling about on the sidewalk from 7am until around two. In addition to the influx of tourists, this is where you’ll find locals meeting with friends for a weekday brunch over fresh-squeezed BYOB mimosas, chatting at the counter about a recent article in Newport This Week, or fueling visiting relatives for the 3.5-mile cliff walk. Everything here is good, like ovos acores, a Portuguese twist on eggs benedict, blue corn breakfast tacos, or any of their sandwiches or wraps. They don’t take reservations, so if you pass by and don’t see a line, take it as a sign to get some brunch. It’s also a good, easier-to-get-into dinner option Thursday through Saturday, when they serve the entire daytime menu, plus deeply comforting dinner specials and some excellent pizza." - danielle rose, carlo mantuano

Fun, bright, spacious place for breakfast or lunch. Breakfast is served all day. Staff were friendly and although there was a line when we arrived, we got seated within 10 minutes. We had the cowboy scrambler, eggs Florentine, bacon, a pancake, a cappuccino and a latte. Overall food and drinks were good but didn't blow me away.

Google
Corner Cafe has got to be the best breakfast in Newport! Every dish we ordered was incredible and huge. The service was very attentive, impressively so for how busy they were when we ate there. We waited for ~10 minutes to seat our party of 4 on a Saturday morning.

Google
Hands down, the best breakfast we’ve ever had—no contest! We followed the advice of other reviewers and ordered the home fries, brown bread, and maple pecan butter... and wow, they did not steer us wrong. The home fries were next-level—bursting with flavor and somehow making potatoes feel totally gourmet. My poached eggs? Perfection. I’m convinced even a celebrity chef would’ve been impressed. Every bite was incredible. To top it all off, our server was fantastic—warm, attentive, and even shared where I could find the charming butterfly mugs I completely fell in love with. Do yourself a favor and make a stop at Corner Café. After this, breakfast just won’t be the same again.

Google
The Corner Cafe is a lovely place to get breakfast! They have a wide variety of coffee, tea, juices, and other beverages, as well as a great array of dishes to choose from. The staff are all very nice and attentive to whatever you need. We ordered the Portuguese Sweetbread Scrambler, Yogurt with Granola and Bananas, and the Vitamin C Booster. All of the meals were delicious and the juice was so refreshing! I would highly recommend this as a breakfast or brunch spot.

Google
A very nice sit down diner. We had Sourdough Avocado Toast, nicely prepared with orange juice. The food was excellent and location was also good. We would recommend for a quick lunch or dinner.

Google
A true gem for breakfast lovers! This charming cafe serves up delicious food and top-notch coffee to kickstart your day. Exceptional service—the staff was attentive, friendly, and made me feel right at home. Get there early to secure a table before the crowds roll in. Highly recommended.

Google
Great breakfast. Get here early so you don't have to wait. I had the Cheeky Emma for Breakfast and some coffee, both were great.

Google
This was a great local spot with a fun ambience and good food portions. My omelet and potatoes were a little oily for my taste but very flavorful.

Yelp
We walked by saw a long. Was weary about standing on line. The line went quickly. Staff extremely friendly. Service is quick We enjoyed our Meal! If you are in the area make the stop and wait on the line.

Yelp
We heard so much about this place and finally got to try it out! We waited outside for about 10 minutes, and we're seated in a really nice comfy booth. Service was very good, all staff were friendly and kind! The food was decent. Really depends on what you get. The California Benny was delicious, perfectly poached egg, fresh ingredients with peppers and spinach. Home fries are the large potato kind. Do not recommend multigrain French toast with apples.. The mix of ingredients did not gel well at all. But the staff was very kind and gave us our money back! On the other hand, the spice chai latte was delicious! We wanted to come back and get it to go, too bad they do not take to go orders.

Yelp
We were intimidated by the line at first, but heard great things. Glad we stuck around because the line moved reasonably fast. The staff is so friendly and patient even though it's crowded. The food was also great. Delicious French toast and sausage. But the more exciting dish was the chorizo eggs Benedict. The chorizo was different but in a good way. I would definitely recommend and I will definitely be back. As many said the line gets long so I assume if you don't want to wait, to get there early!

Yelp
Another great dining experience in Newport. We came here for breakfast early on a Friday and it was already packed. We loved the food, service, and comforting, casual vibe of the restaurant. The menu is unique with lot of items that are Irish and Portuguese inspired. You can't go wrong with the Irishman omelet and those potatoes are some of the best I've had.

Yelp
What a cute place! Beth was an awesome server who, thankfully, told me to try the Wooten's French Toast with the DELICIOYS, homemade Pecan Maple Butter before using syrup... great advice! I had 2 eggs over easy on the side as well. It is a popular place with delicious and unique food, so expect a line outside. YUMMY!

Yelp
The Corner Cafe is a breakfast favorite around here! It's a small place so we had to wait in line in the middle of winter on a rainy day but they came out and gave us hot chocolate while we were waiting (very thoughtful of them). We waited about 15 minutes for a table for 4. The place is small but very cozy, the server was super kind and accommodating, the food was delicious and came out super fast I was expecting to have a long wait but it was surprisingly quick. The kids had chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries and a side of Nutella. I had a crab cake eggs Benedict that came on top of a multigrain sliced bread they were delicious! My sister had the Wooten's sweetbread french toast and those were served with the most delicious homemade maple pecan butter. The only thing I would improve is the quality of the coffee (we had black coffee) they also have some specialty coffees that look really good. I will be back on my next Newport visit!

Yelp
Highly rated brunch spot in Newport. I'd plan to get there early because it took us about 45 min to be seated from the line. The staff was so kind & the lady seating us kept checking in. They were just that busy & there wasn't a ton of seating there. We got the eggs Benedict and French toast. Both were good and met our expectations. Glad we tried it on our trip

Yelp
This place is amazing. If your on vacation or traveling through. It is definitely worth a stop in. Or two lol. Bit get there early. They get busy very very fast. The food is always amazing. full of flavor always looks good and the taste is always consistent. There are many other places in town to have breakfast. But this is always my first choice. Does not matter what dish you have you will never ever be disappointed. The Customer service is always on par. The women are joyful pleasant and friendly.

Yelp
Lovely spot for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. Tried out some lunch items, to include the burgers. Sat outside because it was sunny and they have a small seating area with umbrella coverage. Options for burgers sides: Fries, side of the day, and salad. The house salad is very generous, lots of fresh, thick cut veggies, especially the tomatoes. The Anna's Bolo Burger was a nice black angus steak with tons of vegetables, complemented very nicely with the bolo bun, which kind of reminds me of a Hawaiian roll because it's a little sweet. The Longhorn burger is good for spice lovers as it comes with jalapeneos and pepper jack cheese. The burger was medium rare, and it was honestly a little overpowered by the toppings. The sourdough was an odd choice for that burger because it was rather crunchy and hard to eat. The Anna's Bolo Burger was definitely the better of the two burgers! Dog friendly patio as well. Saw lots of puppies out!

Yelp
Probably the most popular restaurant in Newport- there was a line out the door. While waiting, we were served a nice fruit juice- appreciate the attentiveness of the staff! After waiting 20 min we got a table at the bar. The restaurant itself is small, with a few outdoor seating options. We were recommended the omelette, crab cake eggs Benedict, and Portuguese French toast. The omelette was excellent and cooked to perfection. I wasn't a huge fan of the crab portion of the eggs Benedict probably because I didn't think the mushy consistency went well with the dish. The French toast was also good and you may get away without adding syrup since it is already sweet and moist. Overall the staff is very nice and friendly. Would recommend this place if you're in town visiting

Yelp
Stopped by here for breakfast as it there is a huge line and reviews are phenomenal! And I can totally see what the rage is all about ! I got the pesto omelette with potatoes it was delicious and perfectly seasoned AND I'm usually not a fan of eggs ! The latte was delicious and pancakes were great too ! It is a must for anyone in town looking for a breakfast / brunch/ or lunch spot . You must get here early and there usually is a wait but it is well worth it !
google avatar

Yelp
Speedy service and very busy. I liked the variety but the freshness of each item. Don't sleep on the chourico omelette. Use the bathroom before or after coming because the wait is very long.
google avatar

Yelp
This is at least 5+, or higher. We were lucky as our wait to be seated for breakfast was less than 10 minutes. Perfect busy breakfast spot ambiance (love busy breakfast places). Coffee was excellent, and my coffee mug was sooo huggable... I had shrimp eggs Benedict from the specials menu. The seasoning on the shrimp was possibly the best ever. Poached eggs were just spot on, perfectly cooked and runny, with delicious sauce, spectacular overall. We also shared French toast from the specials menu, which was delicious. Ultra-friendly service, prompt, attentive. Most highly recommended.

Yelp
Busy for breakfast at 0800! Service was good. We sat outside. They have a great breakfast options. I love eggs Benedict. I got the california eggs Benedict with roasted red pepper, spinach, feta, eggs and hollandaise sauce of course. The seasoned crispy potatoes were amazing. I got a side of sausage links which had a crisp outside snap. They're hot coffee is fresh!

Yelp
Get there early and we did! 10 minutes before opening time(7:30). We were 3rd group in line. It is off-season or I think it would have been tough getting in but it sure was worth the wait. Corner table at the Corner Cafe was fantastic with views of everyone walking by. The food was excellent. I got eggs, sourdough toast, and some of the best home fries I have ever had. In hindsight I wish I would have added bangers but luckily I got to taste them from one of our table mates and they were scrumptious. Good service as well. We were out in no time because we loved it so and wanted to let the next group come in. If in the area, this is a no brainer if you don't mind a wait or are strategic like us and get there early.

Yelp
Good food, long wait but quaint and delicious. Ate on patio Chorizo is good!! Coffee great. Service slow Went on weekday even

Yelp
This place gets filled up quick. The line wrapped around the corner, but it moved fast. We were seated at the corner of the cafe, cozy and comfy. We ordered the cowboy scramblers and the artisan wholewheat French toast. The portion was big. We got really full. The jalapeño, salsa, and sour cream in the cowboy scrambler were a good combo. The bread underneath was too soggy though. The caramelized apple in the French toast was overly sweet, but the rest of the ingredients were delicious. It's worth a visit if you are visiting Newport.

Yelp
We decided to try this spot and glad we did. It is tight inside but quaint and great food. The place sits on busy Broadway and looks like it gets quite busy I would guess during tourist season. The inside is cool, all sorts of art work on walls and even a wood stove in the middle of the place. There are plenty of staff to take care of all the customers flowing in. The menu is a mix of creative breakfast specialities from egg dishes, omlettes and even burrito and taco dishes. Prices are decent and reminds me of some of the Boston cafes that I used to hit up in Jamaica Plain. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Quaint cafe in Newport serving breakfast all day, lunch and dinner. My husband and I stopped at Corner Cafe for a mid-morning weekday breakfast. After a short wait we were seated and we received excellent service. I ordered the special which was a pastrami omelette. The omelette came with the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. For my bread selection I opted for a piece of Irish brown bread which I also enjoyed. My husband had a veggie and Boursin cheese omelette. We both enjoyed our meals as well as the coffee which was served in generous mugs. Something that I appreciate about Corner Cafe is that they ask parties waiting for a table to hang out outside until their table is ready. That prevents people crowding the seated diners or holding the door open and allowing any gusts of outdoor temperatures in the cafe. Although it was a bit chilly while we stood outside and waited for our table we appreciated that once we were seated inside we were very comfortable. There is street parking nearby for those who get lucky but my husband and I opted for a public lot and walked a few blocks.

Yelp
Get there early or you will wait outside at least 15-20 minutes. We sat at the bar and the ladies working were all super nice. Ordering was quick and easy. Food comes out hot. Definitely order the hot chocolate. It was really yummy and I wanted more. Food was solid. I would add some seasoning to the eggs but I understand most places do not season scrambled eggs. It is busy inside, every table full on the weekend but noise level was not too loud. I could still talk normal and hear just fine. Prices are comparable. Not expensive imo.

Yelp
Tough to fit in this cute restaurant but once you do, it's worth it. We sat at the counter and the server couldn't have been nicer. Breakfast was awesome. Lots of unique options. If I'm back in Newport I will be here.

Yelp
Got a couple of burgers and fries. Thought they were pretty average. Service was friendly, but a little slow. Wouldn't avoid, but wouldn't rush back.
google avatar

Daniel E.

Yelp
The line was relatively short and it moved very quickly. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. There were at least 4 who assisted and took care of us for breakfast. Molly was our server and was top notch. All three of our plates were clean when we were done. We ordered "The Beast", "The Homefry Fiesta" and a French toast special with fried apples. All delicious. The cups of coffee are enormous and tasty. I like mine black and it was a smooth cup of dark coffee. It gets busy and stays busy.

Yelp
Overall: lovely service people and community but it doesn't make up for their subpar food especially with diner staples. Food: I'll start backwards because their pancakes were the stuff you get at summer camp as a kid. Flat limp and no air. The scrambled eggs lacked air as well but also salt and creaminess. Could use a dollop of butter in the cooking process. The French toast scrambled egg dish was actually really tasty and refreshing but separately. The feta cheese scramble part was good but the French toast was just a piece of toast. Lacked the cinnamon egg wash tastiness. Eggs Benny didn't have the poached egg yolk run which is the only red flag you need. Ambience/Decor/Service: extremely busy but the service was very hospitable. Local shop living up to local shop hospitality. The ambience was a packed house all cozy with day trippers to Newport looking for a brunch spot.

Yelp
The food menu is extensive and so many options for lunch and breakfast. I loved the vegetarian options and it was hard for me to decide what I wanted. There was quite a wait and since they don't take reservations you need to wait outside (this will be hard in the Winter) and you have to have everyone in your party there to be sat. There are plenty of tables inside and they even overflow to the "street patio" a lovely place to sit on a nice New England day. I love that this place is BYOB and they just charge a cork fee when we brought a few bottles of champagne !yay!. Service was great and the food was even better! My meal, I got the home fry fiesta and subbed vegan sausage for regular sausage. Best breakfast that I've had in ages!!! They grilled my bagel just like I like it. We came back a second time and I had the same thing again! The prices can be a little steep for breakfast but their portions are huge, except for the burritos, those I thought were a little skimpy. Overall, and amazing breakfast/brunch place if you are ok with the wait, it's only because it's super popular with tourists and locals alike. Where else can I get a bolo with my meal, yup here!
google avatar

Yingxin Y.

Yelp
Sunday will be little bit busy so we had waited for our food for a long while. Ovos Acores taste good, the ground meat is little too salty, but the bread underneath is soft and taste good. I came here for French Toast since I saw picture from Google Map. But The French Toast doesn't taste as my expected because they are using Sourdough. So it's not soft enough, but the pecan honey butter is really special. When the dish comes, it's too hot so whipped cream all melt. I asked staff to provide some extra whipped cream. It's a small business, no fancy decoration in the store, but it's a good choice to have a brunch on weekend.

Yelp
Wonderful Food, Service and Ambiance. Bartenders are very warm, friendly and attentive. My buddy had the delicious fried chicken and I hast a very tasty onion burger.

Yelp
We were given this recommendation by the desk clerk at the Carriage House Inn. When we arrived there, it was bustling with activity and it appeared that the restaurant was full. Nevertheless, we were seated immediately and one of the wait staff came over immediately and took our order. The first surprise was the size of the coffee mugs. They were not the typical small diner coffee cups. We opted for the Vitamin Booster juice, which surprisingly delicious without being over sweetened. The wait staff was super efficient, friendly, and patient as I spilled my large mug of coffee and made a huge mess. If you are ever in Newport, this is a must stop.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! Excellent coffee. The staff are super friendly. Very upbeat atmosphere! If quiet is what you're looking for it's not the place. Egg Benedict done perfect! Homefried potatoes are seasoned with basil and you'll want to eat them all! Corner cafe is a must for breakfast or lunch while visiting Newport.
google avatar

Yelp
Landed in Newport with some new friends and we checked out the Corner Cafe because of their hours of operation, diverse menu, and excellent reviews. I really like this place. Had that beach vibe. Packed full of people. Friendly service (Sara and Molly) Great menu options. Super tasty food. Breakfast all day and night! The chef in the back (Cesar) is the man. Food was delivered accurately, timely, and perfectly. You will love this place too. The breakfast potatoes that I got with "The Beast" were a revelation. Flavor explosion.

Tammie B.

Yelp
What a find for lunch! Breakfast served all day - hot, delicious, oversized servings are unique and creative in flavor and presentation. Loved the Home Fry Fiesta! Jalapeños add a bold kick! Amazing meal. One that will be remembered.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good food with large portions for breakfast. Efficient and friendly waitstaff. We came around 8:30am, by 9:00 there was a line. The place is cute but a little small.
google avatar

Yelp
Great menu for breakfast. Something for everyone. Service was good and even off season quite busy. The pictures on the Yelp (food) are good and the food is excellent.

Tony G.

Yelp
The food was excellent and service was too. Didn't know what to expect but I was not disappointed at all. Very quaint cafe situated on the corner. It's not very large but we were seated after a short wait. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it for breakfast and I'm sure the lunch menu is good as well.

Ellen F.

Yelp
We typically never go to breakfast, we decided to indulge and go to breakfast while traveling to Newport. We waited about 30 minutes in what for us was freezing weather We were pleasantly surprised with how great the food was. The home fries were so fresh, spiced wonderfully and hot. The iced coffee was perfectly sweetened. The ambiance was welcoming and it was cozy inside. We'd highly recommend!
google avatar

Brie A.

Yelp
Every time I've gone to the Corner Cafe, I've had a great breakfast! While there's typically a wait to get in (I think I've waited 25 minutes at one point), the food is well worth the wait. Just as a heads-up, they don't take reservations. I've had many of their selections and they never disappoint! I so wish I remembered the name of the dish I shared in the photo, but I believe it was off a specials menu, and I was in Newport a while ago. I've eaten both outside and inside of the restaurant, and it has such a nice vibe. I really enjoy eating outside on the nicer days! One thing worth mentioning is order the coffee! Their iced vanilla and iced hazelnut are the BEST! I'ma big coffee drinker and I think this is some of the best coffee I've ever had truly!
google avatar

Graham P.

Yelp
Wow truly fantastic food and service! Cute and cozy space with an extensive menu featuring some Irish and Portuguese items along with the classics. Loved the Portuguese style French toast and eggs were diner perfectly

Capt Daryl G.

Yelp
The Corner Cafe is a go-o place for great food. On October 29th, my wife Lauretta's 88th birthday, the staff went way above and beyond to make our celebration super Special. Our wonderful wait person Sarah was absolutely superb in every way. When Sarah asked what we were celebrating, I mistakenly said our wedding anniversary. The owner of the restaurant came over and congratulated us. Lauretta told her we were actually celebrating her 88th birthday. Well, the entire restaurant staff came to our table, and LOUDLY and joyfully sang a robust "Happy birthday Lauretta..." and the entire restaurant full of customers joined in with equally loud cheers and congratulations when I echoed "88 years old!" This extra effort by the entire staff made what might have been a routine restaurant experience a memorable truly remarkable experience. Thank you Corner Cafe staff!
google avatar

Harry M.

Yelp
Food that I can make myself at home and very expensive for a chocolate milk it cost like $5 and was horrible, I could get a Wendy's meal for $4 and it taste better than a $20 meal at this plate. The service was fine and so was the place but the food was meh for too much money.
google avatar

R L.

Yelp
Food was delicious & very generous in portion size as well as the coffee cups. Couldn't finish my blueberry pancakes because they were too large for me. Husband had the standard breakfast. Said it was very tasty but also too much food to finish. Ambiance was nice & cozy family feeling. Had a little wait because it was raining, (who wants to go back into the rain after a delicious breakfast ) but no more than maybe 10 minutes if that. Staff was great! Very attentive. Would definitely go back if we're in the area again.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and it blows my mind that I've never written a review! So here we go... Corner Cafe has become our go to brunch spot. It's cute and quaint inside- tight seating so fyi if you're claustrophobic, but the vibe is welcoming, comforting and cozy! Breakfast options are plenty, even if you're on a restricted eating plan, there is literally something for everyone. I generally order Claudia's omelet and that Boursin cheese just makes it delicious! Their hot beverages are great. I'm always one with the annoying little modifications (#restricteddiet) and they are SUPER awesome in accommodating!! I'm sure we will be back!
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Food and service are amazing. Worth the wait.

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast and service... I highly recommend this place if we lived close I'd definitely be a regular... Thank you very much

Yelp
Nice little place for breakfast with some good options. Service was good and vibe was very cool. We got seated in one of the corner tables by the window so that was nice to be able to see the people walk by. Could be busy. We put our name in and were seated pretty shortly. Indoor or outdoor seating available.
google avatar

Aj T.

Yelp
The orange juice did not taste fresh squeezed but the chocolate milk was good. Had a hard time deciding between an eggs benedict and french toast, so I liked that I could order a side of hollandaise. The french toast and pancakes were bigger portions than expected but tasted good.
google avatar

Marcie G.

Yelp
Love this cute place. Fabulously decorated. All servers did a great job working together and covering all the tables. Super friendly. The food was full of flavor and wonderful combinations. Must try if you are in the Newport area!
google avatar

Yelp
We arrived to a line that was down the block and were almost discouraged but we decided to stay the course. Thankfully we were seated within 30 minutes and it was definitely worth the wait! The outside seating is spacious and on a beautiful day we were happy to enjoy the sunshine. While we were seated we were served by several different employees who consistently kept my coffee cup full and were attentive when I asked for side items. We enjoyed the Lisbon Express and the daily special buffalo chicken omelette with potatoes and gluten free bread. This was hands down our favorite breakfast we had our entire trip (and we were two weeks on the road).

Paul L.

Yelp
We have had a wonderful breakfast at the Corner Cafe and decided to try lunch. WOW - amazing food again, everything so fresh and tasty. My wife had the Pastrami sandwich and I had the quesadilla with Turkey / Avo / Cheese / Cranberries and a whole bunch more goodness. Beth was outstanding, not sure if she is the owner or manager but she is terrific. Breakfast or Lunch - this is your spot in Newport. And now that summer is over you can walk right in without the long wait.
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
The service was good. I think they are trying to hard and poorly executing on the food. I tried the Dodgy Bob. Woefully under seasoned and just wet as hell. I have had better eggs out of a chain hotel chafing dish.
