The Best Pizza in San Diego, California | Eater San Diego

"Corner Pizza is quickly becoming a North County staple with locations in Carlsbad’s Bressi Ranch neighborhood, south Oceanside, and the Leucadia community in Encinitas. Here, find massive, floppy New York-style pizzas — made with whole ingredients and high-quality cheeses — in iterations like the Killer Bee with soppressata, pepperoni, and chili honey and the Mushroom Queen with seasonal mushrooms, lemony arugula, and truffle oil. The gluten-free set has access to equally satisfying whole pies as well." - darlene-horn

This establishment was a block from my hotel, so really convenient location. The pizza was good, service was good and friendly. Ordered in person for a pizza to go. Short wait, barely had time to drink my beer. I'd order from here again. Indoor and outdoor seating. Don't know about parking, I walked from my hotel. I have a preferred pizza place in the area, but I didn't feel like driving, so this was a good substitute.

Google
Corner Pizza makes some of the best and most unique pizzas I’ve ever had. They have a great variety, and the Killer Bee (with honey) is absolutely outstanding—definitely a must-try. The location itself is nice, and the food consistently delivers. That said, the atmosphere can be a challenge. Nearly every time I’ve visited, there are young kids (around 3–8 years old) running around unsupervised—screaming, knocking into people, climbing on furniture—which really takes away from the otherwise great vibe. At this price point (around $50 for a pizza and two beers), I’d expect the environment to feel a little more enjoyable and managed. Overall, the food is excellent and worth coming for, but the experience could be much better if the staff helped set clearer expectations for parents to keep their kids in check.

Google
I was greeted warmly immediately. She offered me fresh slices of pizza and a menu of more. The Cesar Salad was epic. And the pepperoni slices were Huge. Nice friendly atmosphere and a wall of wine to boot. I will be coming back.

Google
I had high hopes for this place but it didn't live up to the hype. Tasted like Domino's pizza but for twice the price. We enjoyed the padrino salad more than the pizza. Service was super friendly and fast on a Thursday night. (Update) 😂 Thanks for the reply, high key Domino's slaps IMO, especially after 12am, but it's no five star pizza. It comes through when you need it, though.

Google
Great pizza and salads! Low key with ordering at the counter then finding your own table and they bring the food out to you. Large beer and wine selection. We also got the burrata which was delicious. The staff was kind and helpful. Great prices for delicious food. Would absolutely recommend.

Google
Went to this place based on a tip from an employee at the Alila hotel down the street. Boy was this person right. The pizza was fantastic (we’ve had some of the best NY pizza over the years). We know good pizza! Some of the negative reviews are a bit unfair to be honest. At their worst, this place is better than most socal pizza joints. Update: still our go to spot and they are still killing the pizza game. We just visited their new location and it was awesome!

Paul V

Google
Great pizza and a nice vibe at this location. We live in the area and come here about once a week. Go-to spot for a group of friends or when family visits. Gluten free option is good, but the pie gets pricey. Between 4-6pm is when it gets packed with families with small kids.

Google
Customer service is pretty bad here. I have ate in the restaurant and gotten to go orders a handful of times because this pizza place was a little closer to my house than the others I like, but for about the same price or less there is other pizza places in the area that are just as good and that fully appreciate loyal customers. I had been an easy customer in the past I never complained and tipped good for the service I was getting but after my last experience I won’t ever step foot in there again cause the level of laziness and disrespect given. I called in a to go order at 8:20 and got a vm so tried back at 8:25 left a vm and heard nothing and tried back at 8:33 and got a vm again and so tried driving 10 mins there to place an order in person cause I really wanted pizza and this pizza place was closest to my house. I got there at 8:45 and there were 6 or so tables eating there and tried to order but the guy said he had to check with the kitchen at 8:45 when they advertise they are open until 9pm and he said the kitchen said they were closed. Then I said to that server and another guy standing behind the counter I called 3 times and left a vm and the other guy standing there said he answers the phone and said he was busy and that the kitchen normally closes at 8:30pm and to come earlier next time if I want a pizza. I know this is BS cause I have ordered after 8:30pm before there and this was just pure laziness and disrespect. They weren’t that busy there were 6 tables still eating and unless 10 tables left in 10 minutes this was just a lazy excuse. After this happening I wondered why I had been supporting this small business all this time eating in the restaurant and ordering to go when they clearly could care less about the customers supporting their business. I used to be a F&B manager for a hotel and a restaurant when I was younger and if I had denied service to someone 15 min before close I would of been reprimanded or fired for doing so. At the end of the day there is a lot of competition around and customers picking your restaurant over the others is what puts food on your table at the end of the day. I read some of the other reviews and how the owner responds back to people looks like a 12 year old is in charge of this place and if I had read through the reviews and seen how the owner responds/ manager responds I would have never supported this place. The owner claims to go orders aren’t important and they must be so successful that they treat people getting to go orders like second class citizens. Well I have ate in this restaurant too not just to go and I was an easy customer I never complained before and always gave a good tip. The claim the owner makes on reviews that you are not important to their business ordering to go is a good way to divert bad customer service and bad training there were a bunch of employees working that night and standing around not looking busy when I walked in. So I won’t be going back again in the future cause there is just as good pizza around for about the same price or less that appreciates you when you bring business their way.

Yelp
Best.freaking.pizza.ever! I absolutely love the bee one, with the dirty crust. The staff is super nice and I can't wait to come back! The inside is super cute too. The bar could use a few more options.

Yelp
This pizza joint is bigger than it looks with almost all its seating on a wraparound patio. There are just a few seats inside. You order at the counter and then start hunting for an open table. It is not always easy. We probably waited 5-10 minutes before snatching a dirty table which had just been vacated. You need to enact your seagull fetch food instincts and swoop down on an empty table as soon as you see it. The Caesar salad was very average and had pieces of the salad's core in it which, frankly, no one eats and I am unsure if it is even edible. Regardless, the salad needed more flavor. We tried the Killer Bee pizza and it is very nice. There was plenty of pepperoni and the crust was thin and crispy. There was some soppressata on the pizza but not much. The chili honey gave it a nice sweet/hot touch. The pizza was plenty for three people. It was also $28, which is definitely pricey. Their wine list is more impressive than you might expect for a pizza joint in Leucadia, although Encinitas is now quite the restaurant hot spot. Good luck with parking. Fortunately, in Encinitas, you can park almost anywhere and most people are pretty laid back about it. Skip the Caesar salad but definitely give this place a try. I generally prefer thick crust pizzas with a ton of cheese but this pizza pie was very good.

Yelp
Pizza with lemon slices on it!? Try it! So tasty with the pesto. Helpful service. Nice outdoor seating area.

Lissa P.

Yelp
Cool SoCal vibe...simple and tasteful. Staff were all AWESOME! Kumamoto oysters were small sweet and yummy. $22/dozen which is okay, just be aware that they are very small. SUPER FRESH horseradish and GREAT ponzu sauce. No complaints there! Went to Corner Pizza seeking " wood fired" preference. Lemon pesto pizza was ordered as sounded fresh and different. Was super lemony...almost too much. Crust was thin, a little too thin for not being cooked long enough so it was very tough and chewy as it cooled; barely able to cut it with a knife. Way too many pizza restaurant options in the area to return there. Had hoped it looked and tasted as good as it did in pictures, but just didn't cut the cheese:/.

Yelp
OMG!!! this was food poetry! The first bite took my breath away and I cannot even describe the absolute pleasure every additional bite added. I literally could have cried the pizza was so good. What did I get? What everyone recommended... killer bee pizza. They recommended I get the dirty crust(I think that's what it's called) it is essentially everything bagel seasoning on your crust... do not turn that down. 100% highly recommend. My score for this place is based 100% on the pizza everything else did not matter after I took a bite! The service was good for a pizza joint and all recommendations were great. The location does lack parking but I would walk a few miles for the pizza so no big deal. And it was outdoor dining in California... so nice! Trust me just go and get the killer bee!

Yelp
Very busy on a Friday night, but got a table. Pizza was long cut like new York style but very crispy, I really enjoyed the taste. I ordered cheese with broccolini, onions and hot honey. They forgot the hot honey and just gave me a side, which i didnt want., I asked them to pour it on using the honey bottle squirter (like they were supposed to) bc I didnt think I could properly spread it on the pizza and they treated me like I was crazy and argued with me. I think that's the san diego laid back vibe where youre not supposed to give a $hit. Not really for me, I just want what I ordered and paid for. So service wasn't that great. My friends ordered a pepperoni pizza and the kids seemed to like it. I thought it was a little pricey as well. Prob could get comparable pizza for a little less money.
google avatar

Danny Y.

Yelp
Pizza is solid at this cozy and casual restaurant with both indoor and outdoor (covered) dining options which makes it great for groups/families. Parking unlikely to be an issue. Staff is very nice. They do by-the-slice pizza but it is only specific slices. Pricing and portions are fiar and as expected.
google avatar

Tajuana C.

Yelp
Absolutely fire pizza!! Sucks it it is on the expensive side but you only live once right. We had the pepperoni pizza, then added half pineapple and half broccolini. It was $50 bucks with the tip and I got a glass of vino. Luckily the price was worth it! Next time I would just get the pie, it's only $22. I'm not sure why it went up so much lol.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Pick up order that took a bit longer than expected, but not a big deal. We got the margherita burrata and killer bee, both were delicious with crispy, fresh crusts (I prefer thinner crust and this fit the bill). Though we didn't dine in, their outdoor patio is such a great vibe and we'd probably eat there next time for the ambiance!

Diana L.

Yelp
I absolutely love the pizza. Sadly I won't be returning because they are not accepting cash for payment and I can't support a business that doesn't accept the freedom of paying by cash. If they decide to accept cash again I will update my review and return.
google avatar

Peter I.

Yelp
Without a doubt, the hippest pizza spot in North County. Oh, do you want oysters? They have it. You want a great different pizza with a fantastic crust and toppings they have it. Would you like fantastic service and people that smile and want to help they have it And help out a really cool patio to sit and chill and some nights even a DJ. We don't go here as much as we used to because I never want to get used to it. I always wanted it to be fresh and new which it was again today.
google avatar

Caitlin K.

Yelp
Loud atmosphere, but bustling with joy. Mostly outdoor seating. Pizza is delicious but more on the greasy side. Fair amount of toppings! Servers bring your food, but don't come by to check on you or anything- mostly self serve and go to the counter if you need anything. Cesar salad was actually very god and a huge portion, which is good for the price. Can definitely share as an app with four people.

Yelp
Got takeout ... The pizza was amazing and so well balanced (got the "Ana" vegetarian pizza and added eggplant). The sun dried tomatoes really made it flavorful -- there is a thick layer of mozzarella over the "toppings" so it's more of an inverted pizza but it really works! The mozzarella was so good and remained thick and elastic even the next day after reheating. Agree with another reviewer that it's a positive and fun vibe with people at the bar having a good time. Staff friendly and up beat! Fun fact (if true!): I asked where all the female names of the pizzas came from and guessed they were names of family and/or staff. The bartender said that the owner named the pizzas after his ex-girlfriends over the years. I was trying to find a witty response lol but my wife probably had the best: "he sounds like he was a hoe". With 16 named pizzas, either that is true or an exaggeration lol (and Ana must have been a favorite of his since it was a great pizza). So the take out was quick (they said 30 min and it was ready after 15-20 min or so). We also got the caprese appetizer which was excellent and calamari (kind of cold and a bit dry and not many, but with everything else being so excellent, 5 stars is more than deserved. And the crust lived up to its name.

Yelp
So so surprised at how amazing the pizza was here - took us back to Rome! We ordered the lemon pesto pizza and it came with thinly sliced lemons which sounds weird but trust me tastes mind blowing! I loved the tanginess of it! We sat outdoors and their patio is super pet friendly. We came here on a Monday so we got the BOGO offer on pizzas which was such a delight. Highly recommend this place if you want to try good pizzas!

Dianna G.

Yelp
This place is a gem! The pizza is absolutely perfect--the thin crust is crisp, holds up on its own, and has just the right bite. We had the killer bee pizza and it was amazing! They also sell pizza by the slice...pepperoni, cheese and chefs choice. The salad was incredibly fresh and packed with flavor, a perfect compliment to the pizza. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to again and again!
google avatar

Rachael A.

Yelp
I love having lunch here. The pizza is incredible, you can tell the ingredients are so fresh. The service is always really friendly and quick. Ambiance is casual, we usually like sitting outdoors.. Killer Bee is a staple ... Margherita Burrata is also to die for!
google avatar

Keri P.

Yelp
We just love this spot. Cute patio, bomb ass Caesar salad (who knew I liked capers?) and great pie! I totally dig the vibe
google avatar

Heidi C.

Yelp
The food was really good and fresh! The meatballs were an appetizer and they were so filling. We loved the pieces of cheesy bread served with it. The Margherita pizza was so fresh with the burrata cheese and the kiddos loved the cheese pizza. Price point was decent. The staff seemed friendly, they took our order and delivered our items to us. The kids loved the outside area to eat and the Halloween decorations really stood out! 4 stars only because $40 for a pizza and meatballs is a bit steep.
google avatar

Alison H.

Yelp
The food came quickly and the service was great!! We got the killer bee pizza, which was so delicious!! Great outdoor seating, nice to be outside near the ocean. Parking was a little bit difficult because they only have street parking, so you may have to take a short walk, but definitely worth it!
google avatar

Zaydian A.

Yelp
Three words, Lemon Pesto Prosciutto! I'm not sure how they made this combination work but damn was it good. It has garlic, mozzarella, pesto, lemon, and red onion. I don't usually eat the crust but it had a really nice crunch and was very light. Service was excellent and the indoor/outdoor vibes is perfect for a chill lunch or dinner. Would I go again? I prefer NY style pizza but hell yeah I would!
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Delicious!! We ordered 3 pizzas, margarita the hot pepperoni and mushroom truffle. We ordered delivery and it was quickly eaten. I got extra crispy for all 3 pies so they would arrive crispy not soggy and it was perfect (not burnt). The burrata on the margarita was the most delicious burrata. Cant wait to order again!!

Shay A.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed with this order. I would not order delivery from this place ever again! The pizza is extremely cold and tastes like cardboard. The pizza is very and chewy and we will never spend a single dime here ever again.
google avatar

O. D.

Yelp
So far, best pizza in Encinitas. I wish they had better delivery times. Very nice people.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Overpriced, goofy, fancy pants Pizza in Leucadia. Fluffy Beers on Stale Kegs. Staff to Hip to Help. Music sucks.
google avatar

Mike E.

Yelp
Awesome pizza with no "flop". Ordered the Killer Bee pizza with their chili and honey sauce on the side for dipping. The burnt crest dipped into the chili and honey sauce was amazing! Best Pizza in Encinitas
google avatar

Rhondi S.

Yelp
Great local pizzeria, fresh pizza made to order. Crust is crispy and bubbly (Neapolitan style). Our favorites are the Margarita with burrata, lemon pesto or the vegetarian. Fresh ingredients, great crust and sauce. They have wine and beer with open seating indoors and out. Gets pretty crowded Friday and Saturday nights, prepare to share tables - fun atmosphere with locals. Limited parking but plenty of street parking across the street.
google avatar

Jordan L.

Yelp
Great local pizza spot!! We tried a couple different pizzas including the hot honey and pepperoni, one that had pineapple, and another that had sausage and Jalepenos. I also tried the gluten free crust with pepperoni and it was really good! Crispy for sure, but some of the better crust I've had. The owner was really nice and chatted with my mom for a bit while we were waiting for the pizzas to finish. The cookies were REALLY good. Don't skip these!!!
google avatar

Monika L.

Yelp
Killer Bee and Veggie pizzas were both incredibly delicious!!! The meatballs however... BEST we EVER had!!! Happened to be in the area for a meeting, and found this place on Yelp. If you enjoy flavorful food, then this place is a must!
google avatar

Yasmin V.

Yelp
Delicious pizza. They have vegan options! Super cute patio and sometimes have live music. Great spot!
google avatar

Vanessa V.

Yelp
Amazing pizza/apps, great wine selection, and the outdoor seating feels so cozy, friendly, and overall a good vibe. One of my favorite Encinitas spots!
google avatar

Trecia L.

Yelp
This place was busy when we arrived here on Sunday evening. Great place to hangout, have a pizza and a drink. We found parking on the street parking. We ordered in person. It was hard to narrow down which pizza to have since they all sound great. We ordered the Lemon Pesto with Prosciutto (extra). There were a lot of people having drinks with their pizzas. Totally chill. We waited a reasonable about of time for our pizza to take home. I loved the pizza. My husband liked it but thought the lemon flavor was a bit strong for him. Overall it was great and we would come back to try other pizzas.

Reyna F.

Yelp
Love this pizza so much. I highly recommend the burrata margherita. Love the thinness and the freshness.

Christine R.

Yelp
The pizzas we ordered were the T rex, pepperoni and one with some chilli on it. They were all delicious from base to toppings. I'm fussy too since I tried pizzas in Italy. ~ Nov 2024.
google avatar

Addy W.

Yelp
So I tried to give this place a second chance, and was once again disappointed! I had wanted to order over the phone, so that by the time we got home it would be ready. Sadly, they decided that " in person" customers were more valuable than those of us trying to call...as they stated in the voicemail, which I was able to hear about 8 times! Yes! That's the amount of times I tried to get a hold of them...but again, was ignored as I was not in the building, but rather trying to call. Is it hard to hire someone to take phone orders on busy night?! For this place it seems so. Extremely dissatisfied customer.
google avatar

Chloe F.

Yelp
Best pizza in Encinitas, hands down. And yes, I am a pizza snob. Even my kids eat the crust and they don't eat any crust.

Lauren M.

Yelp
The customer service is so nice. They're patient, helpful and they make eye contact and good recommendations. It makes me feel relaxed.
google avatar

Jamie G.

Yelp
Mediocre pizza and bad service. They bullhorn people walking in and delivery is not that great. Will not be back in any form.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
The bumblebee pizza was good. The crust is great. I recommend you let your pizza cool before you start eating. You want the cheese to congeal a bit more. The bit of hot honey is a nice addition. Like most pepperoni pizzas it is a bit oily. (This is why I prefer Chicago style where the toppings are under the cheese)
google avatar

Gary H.

Yelp
Good stuff. My first time with the kiddos and overall I like this place. Went for lunch and got a cheese and pepperoni half/half. Kids really liked theirs. I got the special slice of the day and it was really good too. If you like east coast (New England style such as Pepe's, Illiano's or Sally's), you will like or love this pizza. If you love Chicago style, it may not fit your tastebud needs. I have been searching for an east coast style and haven't seen anything in the area that does it justice... until now. Is it the best I ever had? I'll let you decide. It is definitely very good and I will be back. Def get order the hot honey (no, not that girl in a. Mini skirt on the corner). You can dip your crust in it. Tasty! They also have oysters and shrimp cocktail and some select salads. I tried the shrimp cocktail and the addition of some chili pepper is a great idea and makes you think you are eating something more exotic than you. Delish. The oyster (albeit a strange thing to offer at a pizza place) were fresh and excellent as well. They have a very nice selection of wines as well and nothing that will tip your bank account. Wine by the glass and bottle. Overall I give this place 5 stars. Why? Friendly service. Great great food. Fair price (a little on priced side). Here's a kick. Buy two bottles of wine and get a "any" pizza for $1.
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Awesome crust, crispy and charred. Perfect amount of tomato sauce, less is more. Friendly service. Eclectic casual crowd: small/large groups and families. Plenty of outdoor seating with heat lamps. The pit in the front is a bonus. Love the way the house wine is served. Order at the counter then take a number and the food is delivered to the table or bench.

Yelp
I have went through many of the reviews for Corner Pizza, and many seem to think it's the "best pizza they have ever had?" Those are very strong words for a pizza place. I think many of these reviewers have not been to NYC (for example). I found the pizza here to be just okay though it wasn't even the best pizza I've ever had even in Southern California. I would not make Corner Pizza a destination stop when traveling to Encinitas. I feel much better Pizza is to be had in other places in SoCal, and everywhere else (like NYC). The crust didn't have much flavor, the sauce, and cheese just okay. The pepperoni is the "cupped style" and lacked flavor. They earn 3 stars for very nice staff and just okay pizza. The price was $20 (as expected). Was it worth $20? No. If your craving pizza, do your research. Corner Pizza didn't knock my socks off, or leave me wanting more.

Linda K.

Yelp
Loved the pizza and unique combinations on the menu. Gluten free pizza was yummy. A bit pricey but honestly worth it!
google avatar

Liz V.

Yelp
Pizza is awesome! Had the burrita pizza and the pepperoni. I love the thin crust. Reminds me of my hometown of Boston.
google avatar

P L.

Yelp
Can only attest to the pizza which is excellent wood fired pizza. We ordered pick up which was fast and easy despite the business being crowded.

Steve E.

Yelp
If you like cheese and sauce on a crispy thin crust, this is definitely not the place to go.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Excellent pizza. Tried the cheese pizza. Very simple (which is good), tomato sauce was fresh (rather than the typical dark red overly cooked overly spicy sauce of most other pizzerias), and mozzarella cheese also fresh and very good (rather than the "industrial" mozzarella used in many other pizzerias, that easily breaks down and becomes greasy, and becomes like plastic if reheated). Crust was also very good (tender and light), but if I had one thing I could see improvement, it's the crust (mostly in the way it is cooked). About the closest to the simple kind of pizza you find in Italy (not Neapolitan, but you go elsewhere for that).
google avatar

Juliann T.

Yelp
The pizza is so light and delicious! I love the vibe here, very relaxed. This is one of our regular date spots.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
My wife and I have driven by, countless times, and admired what looks to be an awesome vibe. We finally went in tonight. Sabrina was a vibrant staff member we that made sure we enjoyed our experience. We had some wine. Some pizza and it was excellent.
google avatar

Bradley M.

Yelp
There was long wait times and the staff seemed disorganized. I had high hopes for Corner Pizza but I was disappointed in the overall experience. Maybe the staff just had an off day. I'll probably give them another try. The only way to describe the pizza was "it was trying too hard" if that makes sense.
