Yelp
I decided to try this place based on the Yelp reviews. It wasn't too far from my hotel, so I decided to head on over.
It's NOT traditional Mexican food by any stretch of the imagination. It's a small casual place. The staff was kinda friendly and helpful as I tried to decide on what to get.
I ordered a Mahi taco, a carnitas taco, a jerk chicken taco, and a brisket taco. I don't usually do fish, but the cashier said it was good. I like everything spicy, but apparently most of what they have is not too spicy, or at least that's what I was told.
The order didn't take too long to come out. The cashier brought out the tacos on little cardboard food tray. It fit 4 tacos perfectly. These are not the small street tacos, these are the regular taco sized tortillas. I realized, too late, that I really could have been good with only 3 tacos...but then I would have had to decide what not to get. Ok, that wouldnt have been good.
I asked for the tacos to be on corn tortillas, she told me that I could decide which I preferred. The tacos looked really good. The tortillas were sturdy and held everything together. It was kind of dark in the restaurant (or maybe my eyes are getting bad), so the only way I could which taco was which was by differentiating the light meat from the dark. I then had to narrow them down by flavor and texture. It wasn't as complicated as I'm making it out to be. I started from the one closest to me and worked my way through the plate. Each of the tacos had a mix of cabbage, onion, cilantro (I think it was more for decoration - but I ate it) and hot sauce. I believe the sauce they put on the tacos was their habanero sauce.
The tacos were fresh and hot. The MahiMahi was the first taco and it was delicious. The fish was moist and flaky. The second one was the brisket taco (I think - memory's getting bad too). The flavor of the brisket was very good. A bit Smokey and a bit sweet. The third was the jerk chicken. There was no mistaking the jerk flavors of the jerk chicken taco. The last one was, obviously, the carnitas. Each of the tacos were very good. They all had the same toppings on them (see above). The cabbage crisp and fresh the sauce was very flavorful and had that distinctive habanero orange color and a mildly spicy flavor.
Like I mentioned, NOT traditional Mexican, but still what I ate was really good. Ill definitely come back if I'm in the area.
OHHHHH!!! I almost forgot the downside to this place!!!! NO DIET COKE!! I almost walked out, but I was committed at that point - I'd still go back.
